"Powerful All-in-One platform, worth the learning curve"
4/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

The things I liked the most are the performance, having the multidimensional engine is really fast to read and write even with high data volume and it gets really impressive when compared with relational databases. Also, I'd like to say that it is really multimodel, so you are able to access the same data with SQL, as an object, or using the Globals. For the last thing, the interoperability module is very mature and there's a lot of features ready-made. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

There are some things about IRIS that bother me a little bit, the small community, when you compare it with other technologies, is very niche. I asked about IRIS to a lot of people and they don't know what it is. Because of that, it is harder to solve very specific problems, sometimes you will have only the answer at old forums. The job market is very limited, it is hard to find someone who has experience with IRIS, and to hire someone and train them takes time. The licensing cost is not very accessible, so only big companies can afford it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Iris’ Data Persistence Is a Game-Changer"
5/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

I think IRIS is a really good product overall, even though it can feel a bit complex at times. What I appreciate the most is the data persistence, which has been especially valuable for my use case. It gives me confidence that the data I need will be there when I need it.

The IRIS portal interface is intuitive up to a point and generally easy to navigate. It took some time to get familiar with certain parts of the platform, but once you understand how things are organized, it becomes much easier to work with.

I also really like how straightforward it is to work with integrations. Setting them up and managing them has been a good experience so far, and I haven't had many issues in that area. The overall performance is another strong point for me. The platform feels reliable and performs well during day to day use.

Overall, I think IRIS is a solid product with a good combination of functionality, performance, and reliability. There is definitely a learning curve in some areas, but once you get used to the platform, it becomes much easier to use and provides a lot of value. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

One of the main challenges for me has been getting answers to questions or finding solutions when something goes wrong. Since IRIS isn’t as widely known or used as some other technologies, it can sometimes be difficult to find relevant information, examples, or people who have faced the same issue before.

The licensing cost can also be a concern, especially for companies that are considering adopting the technology or expanding its use. It can make it harder to justify the investment compared to more widely used alternatives.

That said, I think InterSystems’ AI could make a big difference here. Having AI support built around the platform could make it easier to find answers, understand how things work, and solve problems without having to rely as much on external resources. I think this could significantly reduce the learning curve and make IRIS more approachable for new users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Integrations and High Performance for Large Data Volumes"
4.5/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

What I find most useful is the ease of working with different technologies and integrations in a single environment. I also see performance as a strong point, especially because I deal with a large volume of data. My experience with the AI and automation features of InterSystems IRIS is still evolving, but I see it as an area with a lot of potential. The features can help automate processes, facilitate data handling and analysis, and reduce repetitive activities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

Some concepts, structures, and tools of IRIS may not be so intuitive at first, and the documentation is not always easy to understand for those who are not yet familiar with the ecosystem. Regarding price and ROI, the cost can be a concern depending on the size of the project and the company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Straightforward Data Manipulation with Elegant SQL Joins"
4/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

What I like best is how straightforward data manipulation is. I love using simple commands to open a database register, like %Open, or accessing records by index using IdxUserNameOpen. On top of that, writing implicit joins using the -> operator in SQL queries is hands down the most elegant way to query data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

The license model is a bit complicated. It's not always simple to understand or accurately measure how licensing is consumed in real-world scenarios. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"InterSystems IRIS: Integration and Performance in One Place"
5/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

What impresses me most about InterSystems IRIS is how it solves the problem of technological fragmentation. In many projects, you need a relational database, a cache for performance, a search engine, and an integration tool (ESB) all separately. IRIS puts all of this into a single high-performance "box." What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

The steep learning curve of the proprietary ObjectScript language and the smaller community compared to open-source technologies are the main technical friction points I observe. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Impeccable Fluency, Necessary Modernization"
4.5/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

I really like the fluency of InterSystems IRIS and its unique global features. It's the first time I've used a technology with this capability, and I find it incredibly interesting. I enjoy how globals can be modified into tables, which makes them versatile and fascinating to work with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

I work with something deprecated called Studio, and I find it quite complicated to use because it doesn't have many features. This bothers me a lot. I hope to use newer technologies in the future, like Visual Studio Code, which would probably provide me with a better experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"FAST, SECURE AND EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE"
4.5/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

I like that iris keeps all in one place like data storage integration and API's.

The security is built in and being able to use object script and SQL makes development more flexible and it performs very well on heavy load especially when dealing with healthcare data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

The learning curve is a bit difficult because it has a lot of features and can be difficult for a beginner to understand without a senior or trainer.

overall, it takes time to get comfortable Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Out-of-the-Box Components and Effortless Customization"
5/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

It works! There are loads of pre-built components that you can use straight out of the box, the data transformations GUI is very simple to use, and if you need to create custom business components, this can be easily done using code. So you can essentially solve all interoperability problems with IRIS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

Sometimes the documentation for methods can be non-existent. The documentation may just say the method name, with no explanation on what it does. This means that you may have to look at the underlying code to determine what a particular method does. Which can obviously be time consuming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Unified Programming and Complete Documentation Facilitate Use"
4/5
What do you like best about InterSystems IRIS?

I find it very useful because of the way it is programmed and the way SQL connections are made, as everything is integrated. The global variables part is also very good, and the documentation is quite complete, making it easy to find what I need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about InterSystems IRIS?

I'm not a big fan of the screen creation part, as I find the ZEN framework a bit complicated to use. Additionally, I miss native resources aimed at Brazil. Another point is that the community is mostly American or European, which makes it even more difficult for those seeking support or specific content for our country.
