The interface is both easy to use and to navigate. Instrumentl lets you drill down to a granular level of detail when performing searches (example, search by multiple different keywords, size of grants, fields of work). I like that I can have multiple projects set up (for different organizations and programs). I like that you can look at details about Funders including giving details about who they've given to and whether or not they give grants to first-time applicants or not. Regarding 'Geography,' it would be nice to be able to have two different search options - 1) for the geographic location of the applicant organization 2) for the geographic location of the population being served (by the organization you're seeking funding for).

Instrumentl keeps me organized to the point that it's difficult to miss a deadline or opportunity. I love that I can toggle between projects and timelines, set reminders, and receive email notifications. It's like having the most reliable personal assistant! Unfortunately, there is no way to set permanent parameters. For example, our organization does not accept government funding so I have to click the button to eliminate them from every search. It's nothing major, just an inconvenience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The grant matching feature saves so much time searching for funding sources. Having all of the important information in one place is very efficient, and I love being able to visually see all the grants I am working on. Filtering is a bit clunky sometimes when both setting up your individual project, and when trying to look through the grants that you've identified as fitting for your organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Instrumentl makes everything about grantmaker prospecting easier compared to other databases that I've used. You know you're only looking at active grant opportunities and results are easy to sort by deadlines and other factors as well. As a professional grant writer, I've also been able to use the database to sort my results into a grants calendar that I can present to clients without creating an entirely separate document in Microsoft Office. I think the funder profiles on Instrumentl could be more detailed, with more information on each funder's giving history. I think they are working on expanding the historical information on funders in the database, but right now many of the profiles lack the in-depth history that you can sometimes access through Foundation Directory Online. Instrumentl's system has grants from local to federal. I list the cause I'm supporting, and it goes out and finds the grants applicable to the project! And, Instrumentl doesn't stop there -- it allows me to track the grant and whether I was successful in getting the grant. I haven't found anything I dislike. In the beginning, I named a project Seniors, I got high school seniors as well as aging seniors! Now, I try to name my projects a specific name for the project, such as elderly or senior centers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Instrumentl seems to be more "intuitive" than most of the search engines I have been using and doesn't require the correct spellings or abbreviations usually to identify a funding opportunity and pull up a profile. I love that all tidbits of information come up onto one neat profile that I can save, share with nonprofit clients or just extract the Intel I need most. Nothing so far! I have not taken the tutorial on how to use it properly, which is my fault, so I stumble when I want to remove a project and add another--but I am getting there! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Instrumentl is a powerful software for the busy grant-writing and fundraising professional. It provides a one-stop website to research grantmakers that match your project and track progress. Not only does Instrumentl provide contact information for the Funding Opportunity matches, but it also includes grant deadlines, which are updated and accurate. The Tracker function enables the user to narrow down the best potential foundations and track status and milestones, which is easily downloadable for reporting purposes. Milestones and deadlines are also emailed directly to all project team members, so everyone is on the same page on the project, and nobody misses a deadline. As a consultant, I have several different nonprofit clients, and I can easily keep my projects separate, but share potential funders and research between them. Another great feature is the ability to upload documents to the potential funder's page, so all grant paperwork is stored and easy to access by all team members. Having used other grant researching software at our local community foundation which is very user-UNfriendly, I am thrilled to have found Instrumentl for my growing consulting and grant writing business.
