Coming from a non-expert user, the only con I can see is if you're a serious designer looking to make a career for yourself, you'll probably want to skip Inkscape entirely and heavily familiarize yourself with Illustrator ASAP. Recommendations to others considering Inkscape: Unless you're a dedicated designer pursuing a career in industry, you should definitely give Inkscape a try, whether for your personal or business needs. It is a perfectly fine alternative to Adobe Illustrator, and it's free, open-source (for those who appreciate that), and it is surrounded with plenty of community support, on various forums and also video platforms like YouTube in the form of tutorials. You absolutely should feel confident if using it for typical design, but if you have something specific, be sure to do a little more research before committing to this software. It's a great tool for people like me, who aren't dedicated designers, to create basic graphics and quickly generate .svg for websites. I've used it to create logos, navigation icons, and some simple vector art. I also find it helpful in creating both lo-fi and hi-fi website mockups for my clients, before the development phase. Previous version struggled with the MAC OS but the newest update has removed most of the bugs for me! Very happy with that upgrade. The only "dislike" here is possibly the original learning curve to use the software. Computer savvy people who are familiar with similar programs like photoshop cs, elements or the like will have no problem adjusting to this program. Quickly creating SVG files is such a game changer! Previously, we were using other more basic software without the ease of functionality and ability to save as .SVG. This has been a great solution to streamline my design process, and has given us the ability to give our clients more detailed, higher quality completed SVG files. We were originally attempting to design inside the Cricut Design Space software that had too many limitations for our design needs.
