While the difficulty is great for learning, it can sometimes lead to frustration and slow progress, especially for beginners. Additionally, the time constraints in certain scenarios can make it hard to fully explore and understand the techniques involved. "The Easiest Platform for Hands-On Penetration Testing Learning"

What do you like best about HTB CTF & Threat Range?

Great place to learn penetration testing techniques. There is content available to tech you the tools of the trade with very easy to follow guides. Then there are the boxes themselves which are the perfect hands on way to learn exactly how to use these techniques in the real world. The live CTF events I haven't tried yet as I'm still building my skillset but I'm very excited to try in the future! Getting started with boxes is very easy with the VPN option so I can integrate directly with my own Kali machine, but having the ParrotOS pwn box is perfect when I don't have this available. What do you dislike about HTB CTF & Threat Range?

The ParrotOS pwn box is great but I found it to be a little buggy sometimes. When I scroll too fast I sometimes find the page goes blank and takes a while to come back so I need to refresh the page. Also using alt+tab doesn't work to change between terminals but that is due to it being in a browser window, so nothing to be done about that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is HTB CTF & Threat Range solving and how is that benefiting you?

It is helping me to develop the skills I need to deliver my job, but before that it helped me to learn the fundamental skills so that I was able to land the current penetration testing job I am currently in. What do you like best about HTB CTF & Threat Range?

A nice platform which allows teams to work together and solve challenges. The PwnBox is a feature which allows us to not worry about the tooling and the corporate restrictions in terms of network and privileges and jump right into solving the challenges - the fun part of the exercise, instead of worrying about meeting pre-requisites and setup.

The platform allows us to choose challenges more appropriate to our training needs and skill areas - this makes it more interesting and relevant to our teams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about HTB CTF & Threat Range?

One downside is that the 'start' time for the CTF is the same for everyone - across all time zones. This creates a challenge in terms of scheduling.

If we start it morning hours US, it is already evening in Asia and many there have already logged of (or need to stay awake well past midnight, in order to remain competitive and complete the challenges in good time.

There is no way to pause once the event has started or stagger this somehow across multiple sessions and retain your spot in the dashboard.

I like that HTB CTF & Threat Range feels like a real-world lab exercise. The environments are realistic, the attack paths make sense, and the scenarios force you to think like both an attacker and a defender. I also like how easy it is to spin up labs. It’s highly effective for developing practical skills in threat hunting, incident response, and detection engineering. It’s also genuinely fun to use, which makes people actually want to train. There is a bit of a learning curve at the beginning, especially for people who are new to CTF-style platforms or who don’t have much command-line experience. What problems is HTB CTF & Threat Range solving and how is that benefiting you?

HTB CTF & Threat Range is helping me close the gap between what you learn in theory and what you actually need to do in a real security role. Instead of just reading about attacks or walking through step-by-step labs, I can practice full scenarios end-to-end, investigating alerts, pivoting through logs, identifying attacker behavior, and thinking through response actions. The platform is fairly easy to use once you get used to the interface, and spinning up environments is straightforward, which makes it practical to use on a regular basis. There are plenty of different scenarios and features to choose from, so it’s easy to match exercises to different skill levels or focus areas.

From an implementation and integration perspective, it fits nicely alongside other tools and training we already use, rather than trying to replace everything. I use it frequently because the labs are engaging and feel realistic enough that the skills transfer directly to real investigations. I don’t interact with customer support very often, but when I’ve needed guidance, the documentation and community resources have usually been enough to keep me moving. Overall, it’s helped me build confidence and hands-on experience much faster than traditional training or certifications alone. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

HTB is what really got me into the hobby of pentesting. As a Sr. Security Engineer, the HTB CTFs have kept my skills current while challenging me to utilize what I've learned in ways that I wouldn't not have thought about outside of CTFs. The HTB CTFs force you to think outside the box, it is very common for me to have to review docs for an target application I've never used before. Or reviewed a PoC that may or may not work, the benefit comes when you have fully thought out a problem and get rewarded with a flag or a webshell. No better feeling. I use HTB CTF & Threat Range to close the gap between theory and real-world experience. In class and from books I can learn concepts, but I don’t really own them until I’ve had to use them end-to-end in a realistic environment. HTB solves that by giving me safe, legal labs where I can practice full attack chains and defensive investigations without worrying about breaking anything in production.
