## About HCSS
Founded in 1986, Heavy Construction Systems Specialists (HCSS) is the leading software partner for heavy civil, infrastructure, and energy contractors. Our team has spent four decades designing and building a unified platform that connects the office to the dirt, helping thousands of contractors across North America close the gap between winning the bid and executing the work. Our unified platform covers the entire project lifecycle with tools built specifically for the unforgiving math of heavy construction. HCSS delivers rapid and accurate estimating capabilities (HeavyBid), real-time field management and daily job costing (HeavyJob), offline-capable safety and compliance tracking, and comprehensive fleet maintenance that brings mixed-fleet telematics into a single, unified dashboard. We solve the problem of disconnected spreadsheets and delayed reporting that lead to invisible profit leaks. By centralizing your estimating, field actuals, and equipment data, HCSS gives your operations the real-time clarity needed to stop guessing at margins, catch production issues before they compound, and scale your business with absolute confidence.

## HCSS Reviews
 ### 1. The IT Tech's Experience: Great Support, Easy Integrations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jordan N. | IT Technician, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2026

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

Your support is amazing. I work in IT, so support is what I interact with most, aside from Credentials. Your team is always ready to help, quick to respond, and extremely knowledgeable about the system. If there’s one thing I hope never changes, it’s your outstanding support.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Your development feels noticeably disjointed, and the level of polish seems to vary a lot from one module to another. Some parts come across as older or more legacy, while others feel much newer and more refined. I really wish the experience were more consistent and cohesive across all of your offerings, so it doesn’t feel like I’m switching between different generations of the product.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The business issues I’m usually tasked with solving involve automation or pulling data into other services. HCSS’s API is genuinely great. It's easy to work with and straightforward to understand.

**Official Response from Daniel Chee:**

> Thank you for the honest, detailed review! We love hearing that our Support team and API are making your integrations and automations seamless.

You also hit the nail on the head regarding UI consistency. Because HCSS has been building heavy civil tools for over 40 years, our ecosystem includes both legacy workhorses and modern platforms. We are actively standardizing the UX across the entire platform. Our cardinal rule is that interface updates can never disrupt the underlying math, data integrity, or stability that contractors rely on every day. Your constant contributions and partnership help us continuously improve the interface's look and feel, ensuring it remains purpose-built for construction.

Thank you again for championing our support, and you know exactly where to reach us if you ever hit a roadblock!

 ### 2. Unmatched Support and User-Friendly Interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melissa M. | Accountant/Estimator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

I love the customer service provided by HCSS. It is unmatched across any industry. Regardless of the time or day, I can always get through to them, whether I have a simple question or a complex problem. This consistent reliability offers tremendous peace of mind. Additionally, I appreciate HCSS's user interface, which is incredibly user-friendly. It’s intuitive and cohesive, allowing me to easily navigate between different forms and fields. This ease of use makes it efficient to jump across different apps and effectively use the software, enhancing my productivity.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

I believe that some aspects of the reporting and cost detail type data could be improved. While the Insights feature is valuable, it does not always provide the in-depth drill downs that we need. We often find ourselves needing custom reports to meet our specific requirements. Additionally, the initial setup of HCSS was somewhat challenging for us due to having to work through multiple implementation groups. This made the implementation process a bit rocky before we managed to get a solid group in place.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use HCSS for bidding, cost tracking, and safety tracking, training project managers, and timely billing. It enables accurate month-end closures and empowers superintendents with job cost data to adjust plans daily.

 ### 3. HCSS Streamlines Field Operations and Boosts Efficiency

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katie L. | Drum Corporal & Social Media Steward, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2025

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

All of the HCSS services we have make getting information from the field to the main office and back again flow so easily. With Heavy Job and Mobile it makes getting the time in from the field so easy. When we first had our Foreman use mobile some people were hesitant because they were so use to paper. Not long after the switch every single Foreman I ask, said they were never going back! They prefer HJ Mobile as they can enter time and check quantities right in the palm of their hand.
We also use Heavy Bid which has really helped to streamline out bidding processes.
FH Paschen also uses Dispatcher and E360 for equipment. Before HCSS we were using just excel to track everything, making it impossible to get any real data out of it. Dispatcher helps us keep track of the location of equipment but E360 helps track the maintenance. Not only that, but with E360 it is helping us save money by making sure repairs are happening under warranty instead of our mechanics jumping the gun and doing repairs that should have been covered by warranty. With the history it stores, it's also helped us make business decisions on when we need to get rid of a machine or not.
Lastly, the HCSS team is always top notch when you need help with anything, on any product.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

The only thing I have disliked recently is how the Billing for Field/Mobile/maintenance is being invoiced and sent to us. We used to get an invoice for the License and All the maintenance at one time. The last few months we get 1 bill here and there with different periods of maintenance making it hard for us to figure out where it needs to get charged so we can process the invoice. We have many groups and different states who use it so its just made it harder to process that, but otherwise the actual HCSS software is great!

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HCSS helps streamline our bidding process, as we can take real data on projects now to see how they did before bidding another similar project.
Also, for Heavy Job and both equipment softwares its making every day tasks much easier.

**Official Response from Daniel Chee:**

> Katie, Thank you so much for your feedback. I especially appreciated your honesty about the billing process. I will take your feedback to the right people. The transformation from your field really is the dream. Being able to obtain accurate data from the source where the work is done, to the point where informed decisions can be made by executives, will serve your business growth. I look forward to following your journey as you continue to discover new ways HCSS can help you, and how you teach us how your people need to use the software. Please feel free to let me know how I can support you along the way. Best wishes!

 ### 4. Comprehensive Suite with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jimmy B.

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2026

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

I appreciate the full line of products that HCSS offers to make us successful on bid day. It helps make our job matrix accurate and keeps our costs low and our margins high. We value the heavy bid and heavy job, and preconstruction for their contribution to modernizing our matrix and managing risk. The suite of products is great and makes us efficient, while the setup is easy and adaptable, accommodating any user.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Heavy Bid web needs some work. It's not up to speed, and I understand that it has a lot of work and development still underway.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use HCSS for estimating and cost tracking, which makes our processes efficient and our job matrix accurate. It helps keep our costs low and margins high, especially on bid day.

 ### 5. HCSS Makes Project History and Job Costing Easy for Future Bids

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael H. | Survey Manager, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

HCSS is a great too allowing me to keep a history of my projects while allowing reference to them for job costs to bid future projects.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

HCSS has a learning curve for new users than can take some time learning how the database calculates prices.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It benefits us a great deal by allowing use to integrate pricing for every job cost that goes into a bid and by using production method calculations to get our accurate numbers.

 ### 6. User-Friendly with Seamless Equipment Tracking

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** james a. | Service manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2026

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

I like that HCSS is user-friendly, which makes it easy to navigate and use. The PM schedule and reports are also quite helpful for managing a large number of equipment effectively. The telematics feature is valuable for providing warnings when maintenance is due and keeping track of backlog items. Setting up HCSS was super easy compared to other systems I've used before.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

I don't like the scheduler and mechanic planner in HCSS. It just doesn’t fit our style of scheduling repairs with the layout it has.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use HCSS to track our machines' locations, repairs, and costs. It helps with managing over 1700 pieces of equipment, keeping tabs on maintenance schedules, and alerts us to upcoming maintenance with telematics.

 ### 7. Streamlines Estimate Entry and Pays Off with Time Savings

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike L. | Project manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2026

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

Once it’s setup it streamlines estimate entry.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

I wouldn’t say this is a downside, you have to be ready to invest some time in learning the system but it pays huge time savings the more you use it.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps with estimating projects and, once a project is awarded, it transitions smoothly into job tracking.

**Official Response from Daniel Chee:**

> Thank you for your thoughtful review, Mike. We completely agree that having a good process in place to handle coding is vital for streamlining estimates. By automating repetitive work, you reduce errors and give yourself a running start. Most importantly, once you win the bid, you need to be able to translate that information from estimating to operations with ease. Thank you for being on this journey with us.

 ### 8. Driving Integration and Efficiency with the HCSS Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike W. | Director Of Information Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2025

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

HCSS really pays attention to what we need and works with us to improve their tools. Their team treats us as partners, not just users, and that makes a big difference. Every year at UGM, professionals get together to share ideas and influence the next round of features. Being part of those discussions always reminds me that our feedback truly drives the innovation.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Historically, many HCSS products were developed as standalone tools. While each served its purpose well, the lack of built-in integration created some inefficiencies and required manual effort to connect systems and data across the organization.

In recent years, however, HCSS has clearly prioritized platform unification. With more solutions moving to the web, we're seeing a stronger push toward a fully integrated ecosystem. This shift has significantly improved usability and data flow across projects, and it’s clear the company is headed in the right direction.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HCSS tackles our tough challenges around equipment reliance and nationwide logistics by giving us real-time visibility into where our machines are and when they need service. Since we run jobs all over the country, that level of tracking keeps everything on schedule and helps us avoid costly downtime. And with HCSS Plans, being able to visually monitor project progress and add company-wide annotations in one central place means everyone stays aligned without digging through emails or outdated drawings.

 ### 9. Love the live data!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jessica C.

 ### 10. Unmatched Customer Support That Sets the Industry Standard

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah U. | Project Controls, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2026

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

Their customer support is without equal in the industry.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

The products have gotten away from the user friendly experience they once had. Too many new products and platforms that don’t live up to previous versions.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Daily cost analytics and historical production data.

 ### 11. Very User-Friendly with Wonderful Support

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

It is very user friendly, and their support is wonderful

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

I wish there was a better way to track per diem on time sheets. It's the bane of my existance

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is incredibly helpful to the field, and the E360 interface is great

**Official Response from Daniel Chee:**

> I am so glad you mentioned per diem in your fleet management. We have been working on this feature, and are releasing a new pay adjustment feature for Equiment360 in May that you can use to manage this need. Thank you for continuing to help us solve problems for fleet managers of all sizes. Please let us know if we can help, and we look forward to this release helping you track your per diem.

HCSS provides all the tools to bid projects successfully and then provide feedback through heavyjob about the reality in the field.

 ### 22. Efficient but expensive

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John M. | Project Estimator, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2025

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

HeavyBids is an amazing product. It has helpful tools to make bidding efficient and precise. You can deep dive into every little detail of your bid down to specific fringes and really break out your overhead costs. The overall size of the software can be intimidating but HCSS makes it easy to use and have lots of classes to help train you on the software. Their support team is the best support you’ll ever get on any software period.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

The field products are really expensive for what you get.

They sell the field software as a cost tool but it’s still all “estimated” your actual costs are different and usually found in your accounting software.

They are taking everything to web versions and my experience is that it always is worse. Plus if you lose internet you don’t have access to your work.

They sell that the software “talks” to each other but it really doesn’t do that well.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The bidding software keeps my bids consistent and accurate. It allows me to create, update, or add to bids quickly.

**Official Response from Daniel Chee:**

> Dear John,

Thank you for the honest review and for the kind words about HeavyBid and our support team. That means a lot.

You’re right: HeavyBid is a powerful tool, and we’ve put a ton of focus into making something that helps you build accurate, consistent bids fast. I'm glad to hear it’s doing its job, and serving your workflow in a great way.

You’re also right about some of the frustrations, and we understand your concerns about cost and transition to the web. The move to web-based tools is a long-term play that will yield more flexibility and faster updates that can benefit how HCSS customers stay on top. I understand that with the familiarity of having an on-premises server, it can feel safer to have access even when the internet is down. In this world, having your system accessible from anywhere with an even higher level of security than most self-hosted servers can provide, we have to adapt and bring technology that connects the office even better to the field. Your feedback’s coming through loud and clear, and it’s driving real changes on our roadmap.

I appreciate you sticking with us, taking the time to write this review, and speaking straight. If you ever need anything, I am always happy to talk to you.

If you’re open to a deeper conversation, we’d love to connect and learn more about what’s working and where it’s falling short so we can tighten the gaps.

Thanks again.
Daniel

 ### 23. Not MSHA Friendly

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shayla M. | Safety and Health Rep, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2025

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

This is an end user-friendly system. Customer support is easy and always available. Safety meeting is more of a data collection and sorting easier for when we need to find something.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

We have had issues with refreshing content and adding new employees with them still not showing up after updates, refreshing, and double check everything is in working order.

Overall, not MSHA friendly. When training is documented, only one person's name can be on the form. You can't have a meeting with a list of employees that were "trained". So, it is one meeting at a time filling out a PDF and then restart for another person that was trained (CFR 30 Part 46.9). This also includes specific verbiage we have to have in training documentation, which is why we have to fill out the PDF (CFR 30 Part 46.9 (b) (4)).

Incident Investigation: Forms can't be customized to our needs. We investigate all citations we receive from MSHA. MSHA comes to visit our mine site at minimum 2 times a year by congress. So, unlike OSHA, we see our inspectors and receive minor citations frequently.

Our goal for this software was to eliminate having to repeat tasks or have multiple excel sheets to keep track of our data. We are still using excel because HCSS is not meeting all of our MSHA needs.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing right now. Could solve a lot of the MSHA problems with reading the regulation and knowing MSHA is not OSHA.

**Official Response from Daniel Chee:**

> Thank you, Shayla, for taking the time to share your detailed and thoughtful feedback. We’re really glad to hear that you find HCSS to be user-friendly and that our customer support team has been consistently helpful. It's great to know that our system is making safety meeting data collection and organization easier for your team.

We also sincerely appreciate your candor regarding the challenges you’ve faced, especially in meeting your specific requirements in listing skills and training and complying with your MSHA needs. We recognize how critical MSHA compliance is for your operations, and your feedback is helping us better understand the needs of our customers. We serve many mining companies and aggregate holdings that are satisfied with the safety program, and I’d love the opportunity to connect with you directly to dive deeper into your needs and explore how we can better support other MSHA use cases. In the meantime, our product team has been made aware of your concerns.

Thanks again for your honest feedback. We’re committed to improving and hope to become a partner that can take your feedback and gain feedback from other HCSS users in a similar situation, on how HCSS can best help.

Best wishes,
Daniel Chee

 ### 26. Superior service and problem solving

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phillippe F. | Business Services Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2025

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

Obviously technical support is second to none, not just for a software firm, but any commercial product. The ownership the employees take in my challenges and issues is a big relief that helps me feel like my problems will get solved. The ongoing efforts to integrate products also helps me do my work one time.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

My only concern is the third party entities that HCSS is integrating with seem to be 50/50 on real usefulness vs. another check mark on the list.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing cost, moving estimates to field budgets, document control, risk management and safety coordination.

 ### 27. HeavyJobs reduces rework and data entry

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Travis G. | Project Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2025

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

Once my foremen have been educated on how to properly enter time for labor, equipment, and materials, HeavyJob has significantly reduced my data entry/rework of entering information into a spreadsheet that my foremen have previously written down on their progress sheet. I'm able to spend more time analyzing the data than entering it.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Garbage in garbage out. If the information being entered into the timecards is not accurate or correct, it can be time consuming to correct it. However, like with anything there's a learning curve. There also, does not appear to be a good way in HeavyBid to set up a Unit Price structured bid.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has good indicators in the web dashboard of Actuals va expected when the data is being entered correctly and it was set up well on the front end.

**Official Response from Daniel Chee:**

> Hi Travis,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. It's fantastic news that you’re able to do more analytical work and decision-making because of HeavyJob. That’s exactly what we aim for, and we hope it helps you eliminate rework.

We hear you on the need for accurate, easy field entry, and we’re glad your foremen are able to pick it up so quickly. As a field-first company, we are always looking to make improvements to the field experience. Your feedback is critical, so keep letting us know what we can do to improve. By focusing on the point of entry, this is one way we are supporting you in getting better entry data for better analysis. We also have some webinars we can share with you about how other companies are tackling the issue of good vs bad data.

Your feedback on unit pricing in HeavyBid is helpful, too. HeavyBid is purpose-built to handle unit price bids, and we would love to talk to you about your needs and how HeavyBid can help. Please feel free to reach out to me or call our support, and we can talk more about how you are building or conforming your bids to fit your needs.

We appreciate you being part of the HCSS community.

Thank you,
Daniel

Heavyjob and Heavybid are critical parts to the success of our company. The customer support is amazing and far superior to any customer support I have ever dealt with.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Not exactly a dislike, but the systems are so powerful and extensive that I don't feel I can utilitze all the components that are available.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The longer we use Heavybid the better our libraries become. We are able to pump out bids faster every year.

Time reporting and cost code definition

 ### 34. The Dispatcher

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David C. | Safety & Technology Director, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

HCSS has always had a strong product offering for the construction industry, especially heavy civil. We have been using their Dispatcher software every day for 4 or 5 years now to manage and track a fleet of over 60 trucks and 300 pieces of equipment. Implementation of the program was very straightforward and simple, especially with their support team. Of all the software vendors we use, HCSS support has been among the best with prompt response and quick answers to our questions. The software has been easy to use and has features and functionality that we have yet to take advantage of.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Our only complaint about HCSS is an aesthetic one. The interface has a look and feel that seems a bit dated. It is nothing that affects the performance, just looks like it needs a graphics refresh.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Dispatcher helps us keep track of over 300 pieces of equipment and 100 employees across 30 jobsites on a daily basis. As a heavy civil construction company, there is frequent change between jobsites with regard to equipment and tools. Dispatcher makes tracking this information very easy for our scheduling manager.

 ### 35. HCSS makes us more productive in the office

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zac S. | Estimator/Project Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2023

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

HCSS has standardized our bidding process while allowing us to put together bids quicker and more accurately. Our number of bids per year has gone up tremendously after implementing heavybid. After Jobs are awarded we can track our projects more accurately with heavy job for job costing and the process is easy and accurate.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

At times the heavyjob app can be glitchy and require uninstalling/re-installing

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Standardizing our bidding process, now we have a standard way that a bid is constructed using heavy bid. The codebooks makes for quick and easy ways of putting a bid together. The quote system also make easy work of selecting suppliers and vendor and makes those changes directly in the bid so it makes subcontractor/supplier selection quick, easy, and accurate.

Heavyjob helps our job tracking and gets us accurate costs to complete each line item of the bid. Costing can be the most problematic thing that we deal with and by using the myfield app along with heavy job it makes costing easy and accurate.

 ### 36. Great product (if you put in the work)

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt G. | Controller, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

My company has been using HeavyBid for years and have no complaints. Customer service is excellent. In the past year, we have started using HeavyJob as well. There is a lot of functionality, so it takes a lot of trial-and-error to set it up the way you want. We've been using it for nearly a year and I feel like we're about 98% there. The integration with our ERP is pretty tight, but is what's taking us so long. We may use Vista differently than most, because the canned integration had to be tweaked quite a few times. The products themselves are very user-friendly. Several employees use both products daily.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

The only cons I can think of are the price (along with annual 5% increases), and the fact that they prioritize development of their iOS app above the Android version. As a Samsung shop, we cannot use Production Planner unless we replace our entire fleet of tablets.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our more recent HeavyJob integration was meant to improve our tracking of labor and equipment on a job and phase level. It allows more transparency for the Foreman and Superintendant to see how their job is doing in real time.

 ### 38. UGM

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sabrina L. | HR Payroll Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

HCSS has many tools that all integrate together! It makes things so nice that they communicate well. The support is out of this world too! Always answer and will dig in and find the fix! We use ebid, field, safety and e360 frequently! every day! It is user friendly. Implementing with them has been a breeze. They help and troubleshoot until it's ready. Always friendly and greet you with a smile.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Not sure there is a downside. It seems costly at times, but it is well worth it! They take the guessing out.

The idea webpage...no one knows to vote for your suggestion...while this is a firm and strong idea, it definitely needs work.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps with communication across the different departments, track equipment issues, bid estimate vs actual job cost, collecting payroll hours, safety and reporting.

 ### 39. Great integration, from bidding, project management, to safety.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel S. | Project Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

HCSS greatly reduces the amount of rework involved with estimating and running projects. It is a great tool for establishing data bases with your historic bid, productivity, and cost data. Customer service has always been top notch, although there may be a few hiccups or unavailable features as they are developing a new product.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

The cost is not insignificant, however we feel it is certainly worth it. There may be a barrier to entry to some smaller construction operations.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It enables us to have fast and accurate estimates. When an estimate is complete in Heavy Bid, it is seamless to push it out to Heavy Job. Being able to then search historic cost data through Heavy Bid is invaluable.

 ### 40. Superior Customer Service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2023

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

The customer service is some of the best I have come across. We like how the programs integrate with each other as well as our accounting software. We use HCSS HeavyBid and HeavyJob daily.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

I can't think of anything at the moment.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to see on a daily basis what our field employees are doing rather than waiting on payroll to be posted.

 ### 41. All Gear Working Together

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris M. | Director of Human Resources and Risk Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

As an HCSS customer for over 10 years, there are many things I like about HCSS. One of the biggest values is how all of their programs seamlessly integrate together. Not only do they integrate well with one another, but we have also had great success in integrating them with other programs we use like our ERP and HRMIS systems. This allows for sharing of data and information like never before. Another value is the ease of use in using the various programs, from our field team to upper management, everyone is able to get value from the HCSS programs. I can't say what I like about HCSS without mentioning their great customer support. With most other software providers, I dread calling support for fear of getting stuck on the phone for hours trying to resolve an issue, with HCSS I know anytime I call I will quickly be connected with a support technician that will have my issue resolved quickly.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Over the 10+ years of using all of the HCSS programs, it at times is obviously apparent that not all of their programs get as much attention as the others when it comes to upgrades and improvements. I dislike how little improvements have been made with HCSS DIspatcher, it still feels like a program from the early 00's. I also wish they invested more in their telematics offerings and looked at companies like Tenna and the various GPS devices they offer for the wide range of equipment used on construction sites. For example, a solution to use on devices without power, one that can be used on equipment attachments, etc. Tenna has done a great job at finding solutions to serve the various needs of the construction industry and I feel HCSS has fallen behind. If we were not so invested in HCSS and HCSS Telematics already, Tenna would have gotten our business. I hate feeling "stuck" with HCSS Telematics and wish they were as innovative with new solutions like Tenna. The last thing I want to mention is the lack of updates made to HCSS Academy and training. Many new updates come out and the training is not available or updated to match these changes.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HCSS allows us to track our production in real time with HeavyJob. We also like the digital plan management offered by HCSS Plans.

 ### 42. This Software has Changed the Game for Our Estimating & Job Costing Processes

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonny K. | Project Controls Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

- The customer support is unrivalled. Their support personnel are great at listening and solving your problems and are always available.
- It is easy to implement and field-friendly.
- Their software is customizable to our needs, and they listen to our concerns and make changes.
- User-focused. They are one of the most user-focused software companies.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

- Can be hard to see the path to integration with ERP systems to view job costing through a 3rd party.
- Databases could be a little more organized and better set up.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Getting accurate and live data from each of our jobs. Helps us to make decisions quickly to save our profit.
- Organizing and reporting on information in a straight-forward way. Easy to find reports for management and show our results.
- Helping us to get detailed bids, while knowing where every penny is in a cost code. Estimates can be analyzed and used for future work.
- It provides seamless integration between the bidding and management processes. Ease of use in all areas.

 ### 43. Productive, easy to use, and insightful

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luke C. | Project Manager/Estimator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

The most beneficial part of HCSS is the integration between actual production and the bid. I use HeavyBid on a daily basis, and refer to our production from HeavyJob for most of our Bid Items. It didn't take long for our employees to begin using the software, and when hiring new employees, the transition is relatively quick. It is not often that I need support, but when it is necessary, they answer the phone in just a couple rings, and I actually get to speak with a live agent that speaks English natively.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

All data is only as good as the users input. This is not an issue with the software, only that sometimes the production data is not always accurate.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HCSS makes estimating so much simpler than a spreadsheet. HeavyBid and HeavyJob really help point out our efficiencies as well as our shortcomings, for better or worse.

 ### 44. The best customer service expirince I have ever had with a company

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lindsey F. | Fleet Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

I use HCSS every day for their E360 software which allows my mechanics to track their time, create and collaborate on work orders in real-time, and update equipment hours and miles company-wide in our fleet. If there are ever any issues I can call the fleet technical support line and get a real person within seconds every time no matter the time of day. This is huge for us that we are not wasting time trying to fumble through software issues or new features we just aren't sure how to use yet. New features in HCSS are easy to set up and if any issues are integrating the system the customer service team is more than happy to help you walk through the necessary steps.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

HCSS is an iOS system, so it's really only made to be used with IPADs. I understand this is so they can have the best possible operation and focus on one specific area, but I'm an Android lover.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HCSS allows us to track our service history and preventative maintenance all in one place where it is easily accessible to all our mechanics.

 ### 45. HCSS HeavyJob, Safety and Forms

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Randall R. | Structures Division Manager, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

Our construction firm implemented HCSS about 5 years ago. The initial desire was to be able to collect field time and production quantities electronically. The implementation was assisted by HCSS Tech Support to configure the system to work with our Vista ERP, which took a few weeks to complete. We used a pilot program with a few crew leaders being issued a tablet for data entry. After a successful 1 month pilot, all crew leaders received a tablet and initial internal training of about 1 hour and began entering their time and diaries electronically. The system has worked extremely well and reduced our payroll processing time immensely. Accuracy has also improved and submission is done daily instead of weekly, which allows us to review daily productivity measures. Given the success of the HeavyJob implementation, we moved forward with Safety and Electronic Forms because the hardware capital investment was already made. The Safety module allows documentation of Inspections, Observations, Safety Talks, Job Hazard Analyses, and has allowed us to easily collect all related documentation when needed to support OSHA compliance or incident management response. Electronic form submission was essentially a no-brainer, as going paperless has so many advantages and, again, the hardware was already in the hands of our field crews to enable this given the HeavyJob implementation. HCSS continues to support and improve their modules based upon customer feedback and we are extremely satisfied with these products.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

One significant downside with the Forms application is that the data fields are not searchable individually. The end result is that an electronic form becomes a single PDF flat file that needs to be reviewed / searched for key characters when doing mass search criteria. We have provided feedback and have been told that this feature is being developed and should become part of the upgraded product.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

(See page 1 review) Electronic time and productivity collection, daily diary, safety documentation, and electronic form completion/submission.

Elimination of almost 100% of our paper footprint leading to improved timeliness for payroll, better daily job cost control, and elimination of hard copy collection, transportation and processing.

 ### 46. Excellent customer service. A call to IT can be fun and quick and usually is with HCSS!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

I appreciate the knowledgeable and friendly people they hire to help set you up and also solve all your issues. Setup was enjoyable and I felt like I knew the product inside and out by the time we were done.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

Due to the mass of data that must be transfered to an ipad, it can be a little slow to sync.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HCSS allows our many crew members to submit payroll in a timely manner and with no trips to the office. We track our equipment cost and labor cost associated with repairs to our equipment so that a better idea is had of the cost of vehicles in a year. We also keep track of work completed on equipment and all parts associated with that work for informational purposes. We utilize the maintenance request module so that all equipment issues can be reported easily and accounted for when they are reported.

 ### 47. Amazing software solution for time cards

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

The avility to create time cards on site on an offline iPad is amazing, we don't have always have internet on Site and this allow us to quickly work on the time cards and submit all on a site office at the end of the day. Also, the customer support is amazing! they are always very helpful and friendly!

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

The cost is really high, and the fact that every user is charged in an annual base, is not helpful. Some times we have temporal foremans on site that work on sites for a few months, but buying a license for a full year, make us have available licenses that could not be used in a year if we don't have enough people in a project.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time cards is a really helpful tool and the fact that we can have an API integration with internal systems, it's great.

 ### 48. HCSS is efficient and helpful

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel G. | Vice President, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

HCSS help center is always knowledgeable and effecient. i have never waited on hold just to be passed around till someone could finally fix my problem. The person who answers the call gets into my system and fixes it everytime.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

The biggest downside is they do not have a solution to handle every single software my compnay needs so i do not have to use anyone else.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By using the estimating and project management software together we no longer have the issue of taking the data from the field and converting it in spreadsheets for estimators use. All of that is done with a click of 1 button.

 ### 49. HCSS Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chrissy O. | Human Resources Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2024

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

I am most familiar with the HCSS Safety. What I like best about it is as long as information is entered accurately, the reporting features are wonderful. Depending on the needs for data, you can either get the black and white incident stats, or you can review many options of graphs, charts and more visual data.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

If more than one person is entering data there can be inconsistencies with how the data reports, but only having one person entering data can cause a bottle neck and delay in the information available in realtime.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is giving us personalized data that allows us to review and adjust our practices based on our negative trends. We have not had this readily available or automated in any capacity before. Alternatively, we can see where we are doing well or improving from where we've been.

 ### 50. Excellent software for wholistic management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff M. | Manager Health and Safety, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2025

**What do you like best about HCSS?**

Ease of use and support from HCSS staff as well as their desire to meet our needs.

**What do you dislike about HCSS?**

From a safety perspective it is a little limited when trying to capture some important information I.e. employees time on shift/week.

**What problems is HCSS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Safety integration with frontline leaders. The field app makes it easy for frontline leaders to complete required safety items.
