  ### 3. Flexible and trustworthy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eduardo D. | Independent Contributor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2025

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

I've known about HAProxy for years and always heard good things about it. We've been users of the CE version for years now and it is software that makes sense, does what it advertises and its fast, not bloated.

We certainly like the dataplane API and the flexibility it offers. Some people might dislike having to configure something via the command line (at least in the CE version) but as someone that has done this for decades, this is a plus to us.

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

I would love for an automatic way to save transient data in the CE version, but I understand there being none.

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We keep our admin, reporting and api components on separate servers and with different security profiles. HAProxy is ideal for this.

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> It's great to hear from a long-time user!

  ### 4. Excellent Bidirectional Auth tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pitchaya B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2025

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

The core software (Community Edition) is really solid: really fast, feature-rich, low-footprint reverse proxy software, even compared to alternative software. It is backed by exhaustive documentation.
Enterprise edition adds features related to scaling and automation, making it enterprise-ready.

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

A lot of cools features are only available in Enterprise Edition (which is fair)
Community Edition docs could be updated to easier to scroll through, with examples

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Load balancer / Router HTTPS traffic across multiple machines of different apps.
Manipulate HTTP header
Validate authorization tokens

Being able to do all that in a single application (layer) while remaining petformant is great

**Reviewed by:** Philip C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2025

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

Coming from another competitor with closed source hardware products, the flexibility and value of HAProxy is unmatched in any other product we've tried. It's not just a load balancer, we keep finding new users for it every day.

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

Initial configuration can be intimidating, and the flexibility of the feature set can make it difficult to determine the best way to accomplish a given task.

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HAProxy replaces a proprietary and costly hardware load balancing solution, in addition to providing advanced WAF and anti DDoS features. This helps us stay online and load faster.

**Reviewed by:** Jeff R. | Senior Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2025

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

It’s been my default load balancer for years, since college, then they added a WAF and I was floored. Now, between, advanced features, amazing logging, and a level of scalability that is ACTUALLY scalable? I’m going to be using it for years to come.

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2025

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

HAProxy has really enabled Liftoff to simplify, scale, and secure our entire infrastructure. It’s helped us streamline our operations, handle growth with confidence, and ensure that our platform stays reliable and protected—all while giving us the flexibility to keep evolving for the future.

  ### 43. Successful POC with HAProxy Ingress Controller and Fusion. Fantastic team and support.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deric W. | Senior Engineering Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2024

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

We were looking into alternatives to using the Nginx Ingress Controller for one of our products. Their team was super responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. Their technical team was able to resolve all the concerns and questions we had. We ended up not going with the product as we are a lean startup trying to preserve our runway, but we have it in our backpocket if we ever switch. Highly recommend HAProxy to anyone needing their type of service. Their Fusion product has a lot of cool features that can be appealing if needed.

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

No negatives we discovered in our POC. Maybe that we would have to run our own infrastructure. Some startups like to lean towards a fully managed service and be more hands-off.

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Their Ingress Controller is something we wanted to POC in case we change our current solution one day. We primarily use it to be able to rewrite the request headers and do geolocation at the Ingress layer.

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> Thank you for this feedback.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2025

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

It's fast, and has a lot of power and flexibility.

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

The configuration language is bespoke and has a relatively high learning curve.

Currently no good options if you need FIPS compatible TLS at scale with good performance on an LTS release (although that isn't entirely haproxy's fault).

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Load balancing, routing to the correct service (currently with hub and spoke model), for redirecting and rewriting requests before directing yo backend services, for ensuring security related headers are added to all responses, also used in some cases to protect sensitive endpoints.

HAProxy has served us well for over a decade.

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> We're bringing new options for TLS library support, so please check back!
