Product Description

Grata is the leading deal sourcing platform that supports a diverse range of business development workflows for M&A professionals. Grata’s best-in-class search technology and workflow tools empower users to engage with previously undiscovered middle market companies, nurture relationships, and manage a multi-channel business development strategy.

How do you position yourself against your competitors?

Unlike competitor databases with manual data collection, Grata’s search capabilities specialize in targeted, thematic discovery of lower & mid-market businesses that can’t be found on other platforms.

By automating company data, Grata provides +10M companies and +6M executive contacts. Grata can surface information on private, bootstrapped companies, while competitor databases may only capture companies that have gone through fundraising and or have already been identified by private equity firms.

Grata’s keyword search matches against an entire company’s website to go beyond industry classifications.

What do you like best about Grata?

The ability to filter for a number of criteria allowed me to only focus on only the companies that are highly relevant for me, which greatly increased efficiency.

It is also great for teams because each team member is able to use Grata while not duplicating efforts across team members because you can filter out any companies that other team members have researched. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Grata?

The email data is very good, but there is a small percentage of companies in the database that do not have email data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Grata solving and how is that benefiting you?

In my search to acquire a company, 90% of my deal flow came from direct email outreach. Grata is the primary database tool I use to find quality companies as well as contact information for the company owners. It is absolutely critical to my operations as a search fund.

Grata allows me to filter for companies that are highly relevant to me and provides the key information I need to assess whether or not the company could be a good target. I reviewed several options when choosing my database tool and Grata was the best tool out there compared to the ones I tested.

I highly recommend Grata for anybody or organization that is looking to source a deal opportunity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Grata?

Grata's database of private companies has been instrumental as I have evaluated target industries prior to launching a search fund. The easy filters, including revenue estimates, employee estimates, funding, and NAICS codes, have made it easy for me to find examples of target companies in different industries and identify new industry niches to consider. It has also been helpful to search the investor database and look at transaction history to understand the recent M&A activity in different industries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Grata?

The cost can be prohibitive in the early stages of research for search funds before capital has been raised, although the value it has brought me has been immense. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Grata solving and how is that benefiting you?

Grata is becoming the go to source for private company data in the US. No other platforms that I have found have been able to provide the same level of information on private companies. This has helped me as I am in the process of determining which industries I would like to search within to make an acquisition. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Grata?

UI/UX is incomparable - having used almost every provider on the market in the past, it is unmatched. Keyboard shortcuts to flip through companies, 2-click add to lists, etc. Also - being able to filter out companies I have seen already or that my team has already exported - massive time saver, prevents us from going over lists multiple times.

AI find similar is among the best out there (try to use Pitchbook or Sourcescrub to find actually relevant competitors... I'll wait).

CRM integration with DealCloud is miles ahead of others (have used Sourcescrub previously, which feels like using a carrier pigeon to update your CRM in comparison to Grata).

No other data provider understands vertical software like Grata. To a Pitchbook or Sourcescrub, if it's a software company, it's a software company. To Grata - what KIND of software company are you? If you're a CRM for commercial contractors, there's a vertical for that. State/local government software company? There's a vertical for that.

Phenomenal support team, takes my feature suggestions seriously, asks for feedback often, constantly adds to the platform and makes it easier to use.

When I got recruited to join a new firm, I made it a prerequisite for them to adopt Grata before I stepped foot in the door. Seriously. I use it every day, even when I don't even need to. It's that enjoyable of an experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Grata?

I used to dislike not knowing where employees of companies were located at a glance (then they fixed that). I used to not like how saved searches and tags were mixed up (then they fixed that). I also used to not like how their software verticals were murky (then they fixed that).

So... I guess my only dislike is that they took away dark mode. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Grata solving and how is that benefiting you?

Grata helps me find companies that may be the right investment target fit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Grata?

Grata enables you to search and discover private companies based on a variety of specific filters. The data source also provides important information such as geography, ownership dynamics, contact information, direct links to website, LinkedIn, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Grata?

When conducting a private company search, you have to be careful with being too tight or broad with your filters so that the results are as accurate as possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Grata solving and how is that benefiting you?

Scaled discovery of private companies in the lower middle-market that might otherwise be difficult to find via Google or LinkedIn. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Grata?

Grata is an incredibly comprehensive and intuitive sourcing tool! My favorite aspect of the software is the "AI Find Similar" feature. This tool allows me to quickly find similar companies and it allows me to filter by a myriad of constraints to ensure I'm finding the exact company profiles I'm looking for. In addition, the chrome add-in allows me to pull up an overview of any company with all the important metrics within seconds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Grata?

I have no complaints. Grata is constantly adding new features, enhancing pre-existing features and providing an easy to use platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Grata solving and how is that benefiting you?

Grata is helping my sourcing efforts for new investments. Grata's database, UI, and avaibale features are second to none and provides me everything I need to source. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Grata?

The comprehensiveness and accuracy of data provided by the product. Features are easy to utilize; and what I love the most is the AI Core Focus function. As for their customer service, the promptness and how eager they are to solve the issues I have is exceptionally commendable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Grata?

Not a dislike but something that could be helpful is a "sample company" space in when researching companies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Grata?

Mouse-less navigation of search, quality business description content, integration with CRM, one-click list assignments of individual results. UI/UX blows Sourcescrub and Pitchbook out of the water (I use those too... Sourcescrub tried and only made things worse somehow). Faster than any other data platform out there, and I routinely look through dozens if not hundreds of companies per day. Really phenomenal product, support team/account management team are fantastic people to work with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Grata?

Not too many cons - only minor dislike is sometimes inaccurate company HQ locations or domiciles of employees

EDIT: They've since changed this. Unbelievable. Really, really solid implementation of employee data and has made my life that much easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Grata:

Funding data from Crunchbase is not always accurate (not Grata's fault - that's on Crunchbase), but qualitative business information and search/categorization/list building is miles ahead of competitors Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Grata solving and how is that benefiting you?

Major benefit when used in addition to a funding-specific data source liike Pitchbook. Major UI benefits over other competitors like Sourcescrub. Really easy to use and highly reliable dataset. Saved searches takes only 2 clicks to run, unlike the competitors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
