Some might think it lacks some features available on other platforms. However, I think Gitbook's simplicity is undervalued; it actually makes the creation process really smooth. You don't need to worry about the design, just about the content. It is an all-in-one solution for writing documentation quickly and efficiently. **What do you dislike about GitBook?** I would say that it would be great if they could add the possibility of highlighting text and more design options. However, as said before, the options currently provided work just fine. **What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are writing the documentation of our non-profit project (a diamond open-access journal). The final product has beautiful aesthetics and is very easy to navigate. The tool allows us to create engaging documentation. For a project like ours, this is very important, as we need users to understand the rules for submission to our magazine. ### 4. They have not managed their resources correctly and essentially updated their web-app to be almost unusable, and this is probably even more relevant once the scale of documentation increases. On every change there is an automatic save feature which interrupts anything you do on the canvas, and produces horrendous lag. If I look at Gitbook from a Software Development lens, this recent update was nowhere near ready for production, and clearly was not tested properly upon implementing all these new nice features. **What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?** - ### 5. Making documentation easier to create reduces the amount of time I have to spend creating it. It also allows me to publish documentation in a way that's easy for users of my software to consume (they can view online or print to a PDF). Not being tied into a particular platform (since the data is stored in git and uses markdown) is also a big selling point for the product. I wouldn't want to spend a bunch of time creating documentation that I didn't own (because it was locked in somebody else's platform). **What do you dislike about GitBook?** The only thing I'd improve is to add more styling options for the hosted gitbooks. **What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?** Gitbook solves our need to easily document our code. And it is very convenient to write documents by subject. It was also nice to be able to express code blocks neatly, and it was good to be able to adjust the composition by paragraph. Another advantage is that a thumbnail appears when a link is attached. It is nice that the url is made neat. It is also good to have a table of contents on the right. **What do you dislike about GitBook?** In the case of korean, the last character is often cut off when editing and saving. It is difficult to delete blocks of code. It is difficult to insert a cursor to write a sentence on the line after a block of code. I would like to add a specialized module for QA. I wish there were more shortcuts for major commands, and I would like to work with simpler keys. **Recommendations to others considering GitBook:** If you are a developer or are learning development and would like to organize and share a product or product development process through documentation, don't hesitate. It's also nice to look at simply making a document by yourself, but Gitbook seems to have the best strength in guiding others to something. We previously used a combination of Google Docs and Wiki pages, but I think GitBook combines the ease of use of Google Docs with the functionality of markdown, and adds a beautiful UI. **What do you dislike about GitBook?** Sometimes the editor can be a bit finicky when adding markdown. Basically, productivity features that make it feel better than Confluence but with the ability to do bidirectional sync to git as markdown which is unthinkable with the traditional wikis. There was very little difficult getting adjusted to the interface and features, and it made sharing a lot easier amongst the team. I think it is also a bit better than some other file sharing/storing services that are out there **What do you dislike about GitBook?** No complaints. I found the product to be easy. I am used to sharing documents via a shared network drive.. So at first the change the Gitbook was a bit offputting. But aside from that, I dont have any main complaints that I would give a "heads up" to someone about or even a critique about the application **Recommendations to others considering GitBook:** I think you should give it a shot. It is easy to use, and very helpful for getting archiving information for new and previous employees to have access to. Of course it will take some time to get ued to using, but once you are actually familiar with it, it becomes very handy to use. **What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?** Problems I solved were mainly for myself, or directing colleagues to being able to find the correct document needed for information. It much easier because the access set up is a lot more convenient than using some other methods for sharing such as a shared drive or etc. Where I feel you have to do a lot of on the fly tampering for permissions at times, because shared drives or online drives don't always recognize a role such as "user", "admin" so there can be issues where someone is restricted from access even though they are within a role to have it. I did not encounter this with Gitbook ### 44. As with most products, additional out-of-box options would be useful, such as additional templates or more customizable drag-and-drop options (like a more custom side bar). **Recommendations to others considering GitBook:** If you've used Google Sites, it's likely you find Gitbook equally if not more helpful. It's a flexible platform for developing sites, with the added benefit that you can privately host the site. The options to edit online and offline (using the desktop editor) are great as well. **What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?** Gitbooks made it simple for me to create our team's wiki page, and the end result was an elegant site I could host on my own S3 bucket.
