OpenAPI) and found that many companies we admire used Gitbook. It's been an incredibly user-friendly tool that allows collaborative access across various teams. It is also easy to make and approve content edits with branched change requests, which has been a lifesaver. Finally, their powerful search feature has been very helpful for customers to self-serve information that was previously difficult to find. We were looking for a tool where the content could be portable, written in a simple markdown format, and editable both on the tool and directly on GitHub. Further, we did not want to take the burden of hosting the documentation site. Gitbook provided us with all of these and much more. The latest version of Gitbook has rich features to embed various content types. The look and feel of the documentation is neat and modern. Gitbook has supported our projects by issuing us a community license with a fee waiver. **What do you dislike about GitBook?** I would like to see the following improvements/feature additions: 1. Feature to embed and edit draw.io diagrams directly without having to save draw.io diagrams as .svg and upload them separately. 2. It really is the perfect tool to document. Even if it's tech oriented, you can easily bend the tool as you want. The best features that impacted our decisions on this tool was : - the UI, which is realy clear and also effortlessly customizable - the fact that the tool is focused on documentation and does not spend useless effort on doing much than that (instead of aNotion with too many features) - the open-source design of Gitbook, allowing merge request contributions and a git branch system to help us organize new content properly. **What do you dislike about GitBook?** We don't dislike anything particularly but we think Gitbook could be better in : - allowing users to customize more (the UI, maybe hints with custom emojis, also creating new blocks) - also a personal note: for some reason, we are unable to do the command+/ shortcut on the new MacbookPro on Firefox. clicking to add blocks is a bit frustrating and I think Gitbook should invest more in shortcuts for each platform/OS. Then Gitbook will allow you to share all the documentation in a neat, friendly, visually excellent way. I have not needed much to communicate with support, since their documentation is very complete and accurate. When I have communicated, they have responded kindly and correctly. Neatness stands out. You can create documentation directly there, having the hierarchy of files in an orderly way, and at the same time, the hierarchy of titles and subtitles. The Word document importer is excellent. I have been able to upload dozens of procedures very quickly. The integration with Github has allowed me to solve various headaches, which generates any documentation system with infinite PDF's, versions of versions, etc. **What do you dislike about GitBook?** Just some details, for example, not being able to make some more complex tables or use iframes to add specific content. In any case, it is solved without problems, and even this helps to keep the documentation as simple and concrete as possible. The integration with Github is excellent. However, maybe they could improve in other integrations, with other apps, such as Miro, Trello, etc. **Recommendations to others considering GitBook:** I recommend creating a documentation site, both internal to the company and for the client. It will allow you to order it efficiently. Also, automatically, it will generate all the documentation in Github, which in turn you can integrate with other tools or make specific publications. Something fantastic is that all the content of images will also be automatically uploaded to Github, in special repositories, thus creating an automatic Backup Another important aspect is access at different levels and work spaces. Workspaces are conditional on repositories. **What problems is GitBook solving and how is that benefiting you?** In our case, we share an excellent Quality Management System of a Nuclear Medicine center. It is an innovative way to publish and maintain —all technical documentation, processes, records, etc. We also share procedures from how to give an appointment, how to communicate with patients, how to bill, generate payments, etc. The notes that I take in the daily work of the office, the truth is that I have already practically forgotten Word.
