  ### 5. Hitfilm 4 Pro - A Powerhouse Compositing, Editing and Special FX Software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike F. | Owner, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Hitfilm 4 Pro is not only vastly powerful, but it's very user friendly. With comprehensive search features, it is pretty easy to find any particular effect, filter or transition. I love that it combines high-end compositing, chromakey, effects, color grading and match-moving with excellent video editing and export capabilities. It can import 3D objects and 2D and 3D compositing are both supported. It has RAM based preview rendering, includes Boris 3D Titles and Mocha for Hitfilm, which really puts it in a special place in visual effects. Hitfim 4 Pro has some of the most advanced particle effects in the industry and there is almost nothing you can't do. It's lighting capabilities is second to none and animating in general is just plain intuitive and fun! It has all the power and not a very high price tag for all that power and professionalism. Lastly, the community is amazing. Tons of tutorials to help you, amazingly good support from FXHome and an active Forum where you can hang out, learn things, ask questions and have fun.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

There are very small things that are missing, but I would like FBX import and multi-select, but these are not game changers by any means.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

For the price, you simply cannot beat its feature set, power and versatility. It has become a mature, stable product with a massive variety of effects and capabilities. Its compositing is up there with After Effects and its video editing is now powerful enough to work on full projects without having to use any other software save photo editing.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hitfilm 4 Pro has actually consolidated many of my tasks into one application. I can now shoot video and green screen footage, key them, color grade, add special effects complete with particles, import 3D objects and animate everything with excellent visual support and then edit it all in the same application. I am creating everything from music videos, to video for client projects and even small indie films.

  ### 7. A great video editing system for beginners

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

After purchasing a new laptop, I started my search for a new video editing software. I had downloaded a very basic video editing software on my previous desktop, but was interested in something that could give me more options when it came to editing. I found HitFilm Express through a quick search through "free video editing software for beginners", and downloaded it because of good reviews. It is very user friendly and I can do so much more than my previous editing software when it comes to adding & editing background audio, adding watermarks, and more! I've really liked editing on this software, and will definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a video editor.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The only things I dislike is that there are no instructional videos in HitFilm express to watch, and sometimes it will shut down randomly. I had to go through youtube to try and find out how to do certain things ( ex/ overlay photos on videos). And sometimes in the middle of editing the system will close. Other than that, everything has been great!

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

I would definitely recommend trying out this software, it's so quick to learn and easy to use for videos. I love that it's free!

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have solved the problem of having to hire out a videographer for the Real Estate company I work for when it comes to instructional videos. When I found HitFilm Express, I realized I could make very professional videos quickly & easily. I solved the problem of being able to put a watermark on each video (which my previous software was unable to do), which is helpful when it comes to brand awareness.

  ### 8. It is a comprehensive tool for video editing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ildikó M. | Entrepreneur - freelance artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I was amazed when I have first tried Hitfilm Express. I cannot imagined that it can be so rich in tools for a free editor. I am an artist and I use this software for editing my videos about my artworks. It offers really great features for slow motion, titles transitions, camera movements etc. It support many export formats optimized for different purposes (for example Social media). It takes a while to learn the software, but there are many videos available illustrating and teaching the features.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The number of transitions is limited only to a few, it would be great to have more.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am an artis and I use this software for editing my videos about my artworks.

  ### 9. Functional Editor for the Price

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caleb T. | Owner & Producer, Mining & Metals, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The fact that Hitfilm Express is free makes it an excellent starting point for entry-level and intermediate video production. It has a powerful suite of tools built in that are more than enough to get started.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

As of this time, Hitfilm is poorly optimized for mid range hardware. Improvements here would be greatly appreciated by myself and the community.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Hitfilm is one of few high end video editors available for free. You can also purchase add-on packs if you need more functionality.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Hitfilm to edit and produce small side projects, as well as personal videos.

  ### 10. Great video editing software, AND IT'S FREE

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason W. | Mr., Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Everything. The tools you can use are great, and the professional feel of the UI is amazing. I'm still amazed at the fact that it's free.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

It crashed on me once, but otherwise there aren't that many bad things about it.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

The interface is rather unique, but you will get used to it after some time

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can edit my videos easily, and use videos I create for promotional material, if necessary.

  ### 11. My favorite editing program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elias A. | My opinion on HitFilm Express, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I love that HitFilm Express is a program that facilitates editing and that contains many effects for high-quality audiovisual projects

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The only thing I do not like is that the program does not have many transitions for videos

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

I recommend the program to anyone who does not have editing experience since it is easy to use and you can reach great audiovisual results

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have made several personal projects and for some clients which have advertising companies

  ### 12. Best 3D/2.5D compositing software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francisco S. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

3d object import and compositing. PBR materials are pretty good and get better with each new Hitfilm Prp release.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Needing to sleep, slows me down from creating art in Hitfilm Pro.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Everyone should at least try it. This software is for anyone that wants to do really awesome and cool stuff while not being a 3D wizard.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Importing 3D objects and compositing realistically with speed. I learned to code and build a custom version of Blender in C++ and Python, designed specifically to export anything Blender 3D into Hitfilm Pro.

  ### 13. A very useful tool for audiovisual content

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gustavo D. | Editor de Video, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

One of the real advantages of this software is that it combines advanced editing tools and special effects, very useful for creating creative content, contains functions to work with different formats, work with 3D objects, Chroma Key technique and

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Since it is a considerably priced software, it would be good for some users to have a limited free trial to try some of its features and tools.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used it in the Mayor's Office to edit videos and include certain Chroma Key effects among other visual and sound effects, since many of these videos are published in different social networks, it is important for us that they have a high visual quality and are attractive to our audience in a short period of time.

  ### 14. Good video editing software at a good price

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** lc w. | Lead Software Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

I need some training to edit videos, and the tutorial support is insufficient.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Actually, this is a good software for video editing. It has a user-friendly UI. No need for a high-performance PC. It also has many free effects.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Created simple videos with this software. Actually, it is a good video editing software. No need for a high-performance PC. Anyone can roll with this software.

  ### 15. Excellent Product With Great Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

You can find all kinds of videos about Hitfilm and how to use it's basic features and it's more advanced features, right on the home screen of the software. You can use it to do super high quality cinematic like effects, or just basic video editing. If you do the basic stuff, you don't even need the pro version, as all of the basic functionality is offered for free.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

It can be a bit quirky at times. I have tried to delete out elements and replace them with new one's and the effects of the old one carried over, and I can't figure out why. It's nothing major, but it can be quirky sometimes if you change things out after you've already got some other things in place.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Try to the free version first. If you like how it works, but want more features, you can either buy them feature by feature or buy the pro version which comes with all available features.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Trying to build higher quality videos for social media marketing, and people have responded that they like the new videos and they are getting some shares and some likes, which is spreading the word each time.

  ### 16. HitFilm is a mini version of combination Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akshay S. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The best advantage of HitFilm Express is that it comes bundled with over 500 video effects that one can use to create effects like flashes, explosions and much more. These effects like flashes and explosions are also available in Adobe After Effects but to use that one needs to download the ACTION ESSENTIALS pack by Video Copilot which is more costly and consumes more data, unlikely to that HitFilm provides the same in one version, its like a smaller pack with a bigger explosion!! One another awesome feature is the ability to auto sync voice or audio recorded with different devices like if someone has recorded voice from a Camera(not mobile camera here) and other device like a portable mic then both can be loaded in separate layers and auto-syncing them will line them up awesomely.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Though HitFilm has rocked the world of the VFx industry but still unlike the Adobe Premiere Pro it does not have video broadcasting ability which makes it lag a little behind from Premiere Pro. But if compared with Adobe Premiere Pro as well as Sony Vegas it is the best software that provides you even the Green Screen removal facility available in the Keying Suite package of Adobe After Effects.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Switching to HitFilm was easier from Adobe Premiere Pro. I have used HitFilm Express to make intros of companies like Pirates It Solutions and am using it to create my own audio spectrum.
I have also created an audio spectrum for one of my client. As compared to Adobe After Effects which I was using earlier HitFilm provides me everything in one package, unlike the Adobe AE I don't have to download various packs for different purposes all the effects , presets and action packs have been included in one setup only, it's just amazing.

  ### 17. The most comfortable software I've used in quite some time.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Malcolm L. | Freelance Illustrator, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Easily, by far the best part of HitFilm Express is it's user friendliness. HitFilm Express, despite being a free program, has a huge amount of the features and functions of a premium, paid video editor. Even with all of this functionality, HitFilm does a fantastic job of making the basics of editing video using the program extremely easy to understand, with tutorials and suggestion videos popping up on the launch splash page, and with most of the basic functions easily able to find as soon as you start a video project. This ease of use extends to even when you begin doing more advanced editing using keyframes and other such tools. Projects that once took me literally days I now finish in hours, and a huge part of that is because of how easy HitFilm makes it to learn the program.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

If there's any problem I have to have with HitFilm Express, it's that in order to REALLY make professional looking videos involving transitions, you often have to manually sort of create the transitions yourself. This isn't to say that HitFilm doesn't have transitional effects, because it does, but they often can look very cheap and not as smooth or fancy as you may like.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Absolutely give it a shot. It's one of the most impressive free programs I've ever had the opportunity to use, especially when you consider the amount of functionality it has compared to others in it's tier. And please do take advantage of the myriad tutorial videos at your disposal once you get the product!

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HitFilm Express provides a cost-free method to produce high quality video media content for whatever use you may have (be it personal, or commercial), and the ease of production directly impacts the speed of your overall workflow, as media you produce can be produced more frequently and consistently.

  ### 18. Best free Video Editing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sointu p. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

ofcourse when you ask for the best thing about the software, its the pricing. hitfilm express is a free software and don't cost you're a penny to download.. it doesn't have all the advanced tools available in the pro version but for simple video editing and VFX works, this is one of the best. coming to the features available in the software, you can see almost all the common thing in other video editors like timeline and multi-track editing. the interface is really good with a dark colour theme I really enjoyed working on it.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

the learning curve of the software is a little steep and can take newbies little time to know the software. some of the add-ons available are way too costly. the export options are limited within the free version and you have to pay if you want to unlock them.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

well, guys, there isn't much to think about it, the software is basically free so head over to their website and try it out.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hitfilm express is a Video editing/composition software for pc and mac. the software is free so you don't have to worry about it. the software comes with a lot of tools which lets you work on the top class with support for 4k and even 360 videos.

  ### 19. Lots of Effects and its free

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

of course the fact the software is free to use is the best thing about it. I don't think you can find any other software with similar features for free in the market when the competition is very high and any good video editing software costs a ton. the effects build in with the software are really good, i especially like the lighting effects in it. you can easily add effects to the footage with a click and edit it easily according to your need. working with 3d is something which is extremely good in hitfilm express. despite the fact its free you have to say the support from hitfilm is really good, they are always online to gelp you out and you dont have to contact them that often because the software documentation is really good and there is also several tutorial videos availalbe in their website to help you out. for more detailed editing and effects there are several add-ons available.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

there is no support for Dolby AC3 without add-ons and i find it as a serious problem with the software. if you want to download the software you need to share a link with social media which is somewhat irritating.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

this is the best free video editing software available, if youre interested why wait here? go and download the software.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hitfilm express is a video editing software with a lot of features and effects built in.

  ### 20. Powerful Editing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Allen R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The software is free, although considered us the younger brother of the pro version it comes with a lot of powerful video editing features that you can get for absolutely nothing and its a great catch, both Mac and PC are supported by the software so you don't have to worry about sharing project files and also a lot of people can take advantage of this free software from hitfilm irrespective of the operating system they are using.
when it comes to features, unlike other free software this one is power-packed. the software supports all kinds of media with resolutions up to 4K, 360 videos and so much more. there are several realtime editing tools in there for you to work on multiple monitors and several additional effects which are usually found in high-end software.
the interface is great, it looks very neat, beautiful and well arranged. also, you can access a lot of tutorials in it which helps you get used to the software. the youtube direct upload function is also great if you're a vlogger.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

you can see that a software of this much features is given out for free so where is the catch for the company, it's with the export options. the exports options are way too limited when compared with the pro edition of the similar software. you need to pay if you need to unlock those features. also many effects and add-ons within the software is locked out from the user which can be accessed without a subscription and that's where it loses "Free" tag. advanced add-ons such as chroma key won't work with an express version so don't think about playing with the 3d options here. i used to have the program crashing when tried to work on GoPro fusion 360 videos. if you're looking for extreme editing within the software make sure you got a good pc-build cause it takes a lot of memory and lags your system.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

the software is free, to try it yourself.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hitfilm express is a video editing software. it comes with all those tools you need to edit a video professionally and VFX to it.

  ### 21. Best free tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

the most amazing thing about hitfilm express is that its free. you just have to go to their site and register to get your license of the software. the software is available for Mac as well as Windows operating system so most of the users can take advantage of the tool. comparing with other major video editing software out there this is one of the lightweight application, you don't need high-end specs or tons of ram to run this software smoothly but an average pc will do. the editing options and features in the tool are awesome. there are tons of tools for customization including a lot of effects and transition. there is a library associate with the product from which you can download additional effects if you need it. this tool supports resolutions upto 4k as well as 360 videos which is cool considering its a free software. there are also a lot of tutorials in the web to get to know the product and the support is also helpful at times.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

the exporting options are very limited when it comes to hitfilm express and you have to pay to unlock the additional options. its really hard to get to know the software with a steep learning curve. the interface is a bit complex for a beginner.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

the software is free so give it a try.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

hitfilm express is a free video editing software for windows and mac operating systems. there are tons of features and clearly one of the best out there.

  ### 22. HitFilm, worth a try

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abner J. | CIO SOH (Service Operation Hub), Management Consulting, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

the interface is very simple, easy to use, color grading, time remapping, trimmer, some transition effects,
everything you should expect on a video editing software, I think it worth the try before you go and spend 500 dollars on a year subscription of creative cloud

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

the fact that it does not have a feature like optical flow to make slow motion even smoother, also I think the transitions effects are very basic. and this software needs a feature like warp stabilizer

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

I would recommend to give it a try, if you are an amateur filmmaker or just starting a youtube channel this is the software to use

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm able to edit courses, workshops and Knowlege transfers we have every month via skype and re-post them on our Sharepoint, and make them available in case someone misses it

  ### 23. The Best Editor outside of Adobe Products

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brett M. | Video Maker, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I love how easy to use and how quick to set up HitFilm is. It's one of the best, more reasonably priced editing softwares out on the market

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I do think it lacks in regards to colour grading and editing on smaller projects. It's definitely intended to do editing on short films or larger video projects.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

If you need to get started on editing a project and don't want to commit to something like Adobe or another larger editor, HitFilm is going to be the best bang for your buck on the market. I would highly recommend playing around with this software, and checking out HitFilms YouTube channel, they have great tutorials on how to create visually amazing effects quickly, and without extra plug-ins.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing Video effectively, efficiently, and cost effectively

  ### 24. My experience with Hitfilm Express

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prachi P. | Application Developer, Hospital & Health Care, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

This is a great tool for Photo and video editing. Free of cost. Easy to setup and use. Files can be exported easily. I recently created one short video song using this tool. It has all featured needed. I loved the filters and editing options. As I am new to video editing, this software is highly recommended for beginners according to my experience.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Initial load takes lot of time and preview of the video is interrupted and seems like buffering everytime. This was only thing frustrating. While I face this problems features, filter and editing options keep me going with this tool. Else I would have stopped using it out of frustration. Preview of video should be improved.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Easy to use. User friendly Interface and great for beginners.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Preparing videos for Youtube and learning new techniques in video editing. It has a lot of filters and editing options which makes it easy for post processing. I would also say that beginners should start with this software. It is not complex and comes with all required features. I am planning to make short films, and this software will be very useful. You can improve video quality, effects and that too without paying.

This also comes with a powerful audio editing tools. Most essential feature is the audio mixer, which enables you to tune the sound of your video projects.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I'm not pleased with the lack of options with exporting formats including YouTube and H.264. It also doesn't support JKL keyboard shortcuts, which has really thrown me for a loop since most other editing tools support that.

Hitfilm Pro would be a perfect choice for you if you are looking for a filmmaker or professional video editor for creating amazing graphics seen in movies without switching between editing and compositing programs.

The ability to splice videos, accurately chopping and changing sections of the film. The basic special effects function is also better than other comparable versions of this software, although many of the special effects are a little unnecessary and I haven't used them

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Some basic functions were confusing to start with. It took me a while to get the hang of using certain features. This was to be predicted, as I was a complete beginner using this platform, and I got the hang of it fairly quickly

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben P. | Youth/Worship Pastor, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The work station for composite shots and editing allows you to take your videos to the next level! There is nothing you cannot do with this product! I also love the connection to the online training and community of users who show the amazing side of the capabilities of this program! They are able to do things I cant even imagine doing yet! That allows me to have a great hope of future potential with this program!

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I would say that there is a fairly steep learning curve for this product if you have never used a full video editing sweet before! The structure is unfamiliar at first for those who have used basic video editing products, but after you learn it, it is a breeze to use!

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

You can get their free version of Hitfilm4 Express and get a better understanding of how the program works! This will show you the strength of the program before you buy the full version!

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This has made the marketing side of our social media platform a much more professional grade entity. Instead of making videos that anyone could make, we are able to make things that catch the eyes of potential members of our organization!

  ### 34. Fantasic VFX, OK editng, far better than previous versions.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael M. | Owner, Broadcast Media, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Hitfilm 4 Pro provides a unique combination of Editing, Compositing, VFX and 3D Animation tools, as well as a suite of about 150 Plug-ins for other NLEs (including Vegas, FCPX, Avid, Premiere, AE and Resolve, among others), Mocha planar tracking for roto and 3D camera solves, and the 3D Objects Module from Boris Continuum, all with a three computer installation license for under $400.

As a VFX/Compositing program, Hitfilm is first-rate. Whether one needs basic chroma/luma keying of actors over backgrounds, integration of 3D models and particle systems with camera solved footage, advanced color grading, or one wishes to create motion graphics and complex procedural animations, Hitfilm has a lot to offer. While not offering all the raw power of After Effects, Hitfilm 4 Pro is often faster to use and easier to set up that AE. Unlike AE, a Hitfilm purchase is a BUY, not a RENT. No monthly subscription holding your projects library hostage! Additionally, AE would require VideoCoPilot's Element 3D add-on and Red Giant's Trapcode Particular add-on to perform things Hitfilm has built-in.

In the hands of a skilled artist, Hitfilm is capable of stunning results that certainly meet standards for current television production. I've seen shots from skilled Hitfilm artists that could even hold up in a feature film!

Hitfilm's layout and workflow is fast an intuitive, especially if one is already familiar with any other layer-based compositor.

As an editor, Hitfilm provides all the basic tools needed to cut a narrative project from start to finish.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Hitfilm currently lacks expressions or scripting--most of the time this isn't a big deal (honestly, most AE expressions serve to automate things that can be keyframe animated), but it would be nice.

Hitfilm's editor is very basic. One could cut a narrative film project well enough, but event video editors will find the lack of multi-cam a deal breaker.

That said, Sony Vegas is my preferred NLE (Premiere as second choice), and Hitfilm works wonderfully as a shot creator. Hitfilm projects are then output for re-import into my primary editor.

Hitfilm currently has substandard audio tools--limited mixing and monitoring abilities and no real way to add in audio envelopes. However, Hitfilm 4 improves over prior versions with a new selection of audio effects. The Doppler Shift plug-in is the standout here, since the Doppler can be connected to a point or asset layer moving in 3D space.

Hitfilm is particularly sluggish when working with any h.264 video. Considering most DSLRs or Prosumer cameras kick out h.264 this can be a moderate issue. FxHome recommends converting h.264 to ProRes (Mac) or DNxHD (Windows).

Hitfilm lacks any kind of XML support, so Hitfilm is unable to transfer EDL data between programs.

Hitfilm's export options are limited: On PC you have h.264, direct Youtube upload, 8-bit PNG Image Sequences, 16-bit Open EXR Image Sequences and uncompressed AVI. Mac users get Quicktime instead of AVI. Basically you have your high-quality master output or your low-resolution preview output, but nothing for intermediate codecs or online/offline work.

No network rendering

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Think of Hitfilm more as VFX software than an editor. For VFX it's fantastic, for editing, less so.

If you need layer-based compositing, advanced VFX, 3D particle systems and 3D model compositing--especially in the same project--then Hitfilm is a compelling choice.

If you are a one-man-band or small company, Hitfilm is probably your best choice. It's a beautiful video "Swiss Army Knife."

For larger studios, especially those that need to integrate projects with other studios, Hitfilm is probably not your best choice right now, solely because of the lack of XML and limited export options means that Hitfilm is kind of it's own thing and not software that "Plays Well with Others." However, the Ignite plug-ins, included in Hitfilm 4 Pro, are available separately for $199 (MSRP), which is a damn good price for a plug-in suite with about 150 effects, compatible with Vegas, Premiere, Avid, FCPX, Motion, Resolve, and, yes, After Effects.

There is a full-featured demo of Hitfilm 4 Pro available on the Hitfilm website. It's only limitations are that output is limited to 30 seconds, uploaded to Youtube, and the Boris/Mocha modules are disabled. Since Boris/Mocha are third-party add ons, I stand by the "fully featured." :-)

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hitfilm has almost completely replaced After Effects for my VFX and compositing work. I have found Hitfilm to be faster and easier.

Additionally, I just ENJOY Hitfilm more than After Effects--it's an intangible benefit, but, when I play around in Hitfilm I'm playing and having fun. When I'm working in After Effects, I'm slogging through being a bit annoyed. Both programs have fairly similar layouts, so much of this is personal taste.

  ### 35. Great software for standalone film production

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rakesh M. | Director Of Photography, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The user interface and effects in HitFilm are excellent. It's very user friendly, and the effects are powerful and can produce excellent results. It has excellent effects that that can deliver professional quality results, with the usual caveat of learning to use them. Some are very simple, but others are very powerful, and have non-trivial learning curves to go with them.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Its workflow integration is non-existent. It doesn't support any intermediate codecs, so the options for rendering are delivery codecs like h.264 and image sequences. It has no support whatsoever for standard formats like Final Cut XML and OMF support, further impeding the already crippled workflow options.

That said, in theory you could do everything from editing to final render in HitFIlm if it worked... which often it simply does not; there's no way to sync audio and video in HitFilm, and HitFilm also fails to support broadcast WAVs with multiple mono tracks.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Get a demo version and test it first. It's great software, but it has some limitations that in some cases are showstoppers; if you plan on using it with a color grade suite or with a ProTools user for audio post, you might be out of luck. If HitFilm loads your footage then you can edit as well as handle VFX there, but it has some strange limitations that require some convoluted workarounds in order to take advantage of HitFilm.
I'm hoping that FXHome will work on these, to enable more workflows to use HitFilm.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its effects have come in handy for a few shots and for some finishing effects.

  ### 36. A continuously evolving, powerful VFX program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Javert V. | Library Services Assistant, Libraries, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The amount of things I can do in the software without needing to buy plug-ins is why I continue to use HitFilm as opposed to After Effects. Particle simulation, light flares, 3D model import, and many of the presets for 3D effects are ready to use and customizable.

Having a built in NLE makes putting together a short video easy and convenient, especially when one or more of the shots requires VFX.

In addition, the community and staff that have grown around the program are absolutely fantastic. Everyone is helpful, supportive and friendly.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The program does crash noticeably more often than its competitors.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

There are 2 versions right now: HitFilm 4 Pro ($350) and HitFilm 3 Express (Free). If you consider yourself a beginner in VFX, start with Express and get a feel for the software by following tutorials on YouTube.

Switching from After Effects to HitFilm is not difficult if you're familiar with the basic concepts of a VFX software program. The HitFilm YouTube channel has numerous tutorials covering the basics of the UI to more advanced techniques.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating VFX is what I like to do and HitFilm makes it easy to bring my ideas to life onscreen. I started a YouTube channel (and later a website) for HitFilm tutorials soon after the program came out, and together we have grown both in skill set and audience.

  ### 37. Allthough it is a free product I would rank it with software like Adobe After-Effects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron H. | Youtuber, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Along with the fact that this product is free (Hit Film 3 express) It has a similar interface to products like Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas. Also it comes with a massive library of effects to your disposal. For my uses the compositing interface allows for the creation of animated video intros/ outros with ease. Also the option to immediately upload the video to your YouTube account makes the entire process a lot more simple. If there is ever a question about the product, the company has a great customer support center where they are able to get back to you within a day or two.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Although I have very few hold-ups about the product my only complaint would be that a few of the features rely upon hotkeys unknown to me at this point and I have not been able to find a complete list anywhere on what those hotkeys are.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Make sure to try the product out with their Hit film 3 express before you buy the full versions.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before this point If I were to need video editing done to my videos I would first have to upload all the raw video clips to YouTube which took a long time without having any converting capabilities which this product does offer. After I uploaded those clips I would have to use YouTube's editor which was not allowing me to reach my full potential.

  ### 38. I'd choose this over FCPX any day!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt G. | Senior Videographer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

This software is developed like a video editing software should be. The price isn't bad and the layout is much better than the current version of Final Cut.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I haven't come across anything I've disliked so far.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Try out the free trial. You're limited to a 30-sec SD YouTube clip, but it will give you an idea for how it fits your needs.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Looking for a video editing solution.

  ### 39. Fantastic with some slight flaws

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phil N. | 3D Artist, Legal Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

What I love about HitFilm is first the price. But then I also love how it combines editing with with compositing in one program and both are almost exactly like their Adobe counterparts.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I don't like That it feels very similar to After Effects and premiere but can't use any of the third party plugins that are a big part of those programs. Also at least in HitFilm Express the number of video formats it will accept is very small. I often have to convert a video to MP4 just so that i can edit it.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

if you are used to Adobe products you will pick this up very quickly since the interface is so similar.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Business wise HitFIlm allows me to do my editing and compositing without spending a boatload of money.

  ### 40. Powerful, accessible software with unparalleled customer service and support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben A. | Creative Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

HitFilm is a powerful, accessible tool that gives users the freedom to create their visions with considerably little time cost. The software is a robust, turnkey solution to post-production; and is easily approached by users new and experienced alike.

Moreover, the HitFilm community and company support system are unparalleled. The team over in Norwich is dedicated to its users, and is constantly producing new support materials and finding solutions for the userbase.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

HitFilm's system, while flexible, may have a few drawbacks. The graphics user interface, similar to Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, or other NLEs, has slightly larger graphical tabs and increased point size on typefaces in-program. Users of other software may find these small details unfamiliar at first blush, but they quickly become innocuous differences.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

HitFilm is a company that has grown from a real care and concern for the user. They are very in touch with the needs of narrative and commercial filmmakers, and their products reflect that. The software is easy-to-use without being rudimentary: on the contrary, HitFilm software affords its users endless freedom to create whatever their vision may be, and make quick work of post-production deliverables.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a production house, we are constantly turning out work -- both commercial and narrative -- that requires fast, high-powered post-production solutions. HitFilm folds perfectly into our suite of resources; giving us the freedom and flexibility to produce effects of color grading 'looks' on a whim to meet client needs.

  ### 41. Pretty good for filmmakers. Fun to play and experiment, but not my favorite

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Music | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

It is always fun to explore a new software just to see what is different from its competitors. I like the idea of different feature packages you can buy in the HitFilm store. I know a lot of people would feel like these are extra added costs but I think it's nice to have the free version or at least low priced software in the case of HitFilm Pro 4 and have the option to pick and choose what you want as opposed to having features you don't use bundled into pricing and feeling like you pay for something you do not use. I did not buy any features, but I watched some user videos to get an idea and I think it is a neat idea. Really, I think the best part is that you can get the full version completely free or even demo the pro version for free as well. This is a great feature to try before you buy or get someone hooked on the free version before upgrading.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The user interface was not as user-friendly as I had hoped. It has elements similar to other video editing software so there is a sense of familiarity, but I had to reference a few times to find what I was looking for or figure out certain things. I also find this software to serve more for short films or entertaining projects. For example, I think it would be a lot of fun to create student projects and use some of the additional feature packages. For my professional use, HitFilm did not add anything spectacular over other choices, so I was not convinced to make a switch or even to add it to my consideration set at the moment. If anyone does not want to provide their email address, I saw you can also download it from CNET's download.com website.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Search for and watch some videos that people have made using HitFilm. Browse HitFilm's website, read reviews, google comparisons between HitFilm as well as the other major competitors: Premier, Vegas, Final Cut, and even iMovie. It really just comes down to whether it works for you or not. However, Express is free and Pro is even free as a trial, so it never hurts to download it and check it out.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working with my non-profit team members, we generally use iMovie and occasionally Final Cut. For our types of projects, we generally require simpler editing but sometimes get creative with videos and do things out of our ordinary which HitFilm could maybe have a use for that. Otherwise, I think HitFilm is just not a fit for our usage but it does have its place for filmmakers.

  ### 42. Great overall.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam K. | Camera Operator, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Hitfilm is a great free editing software that does everything well but doesn't specialize on one thing in particular. It has every tool you will need for making videos starting from simple cutting and pasting, grading and even special effects. That last part is what separates Hitfilm from the rest - it's VFX tools are very easy and quick and give fairly good results. Sure it won't replace an experienced VFX artist with expensive tools but it doesn't even aim that high.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Honestly there is not much to dislike about this program other than the fact that it lacks "depth" per se. It does a lot of things but on a simple level. You don't get to tweak and manually adjust many options like in other software. I think GUI and keyboard controls could be improved or reworked. Hitfilm also lacks support from external plugin makers like NeatVideo or FilmConvert. This is what keeps me out of it, however I understand that not much people need these plugins or addons.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

It's free - get it, try it, see if it works for you.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hitfilm provides easy and free but still fairly good tools that are a godsend for beginners. This + also free Davinci Resolve enables young filmmakers to do what they love without having to pirate or spend a lot of money upfront. It also opens doors for those who want to start doing VFX work - it provides templates and assets that help get the results you need.

  ### 43. Great Experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cortney C. | Director of First Impressions (MMC), Education Management, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 30, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Very VERY easy to use. The effects are simple and easy to apply. There aren't many menus, and the help button is very useful if you get confused.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Basic as far as fonts and different transition patters. Cutting sometimes cut off too soon or too delayed.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are making live videos of installs to show quality workmanship. When you SEE a crew in action, you are easily able to see how they perform.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tristan W. | CEO, President, Chairman, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I love being able to import and manipulate 3D models.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I dislike the frequent crashes on Mac and not having the 2 point lightsword function in final cut pro.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

If you are interested in hitfilm, you are probably interested in filmmaking. Check out TriFlix Films on YouTube for filmmaking tips and techniques as well as Film Riot.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed a software that cold manipulate 3d models in addition to edit as well as final cut pro. I realized hitfilm fills this need for the most part.

  ### 45. HitFilm - easy way to learn editing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

HitFilm is one of the newest editing software. It has big potential. Is it comparable to Premier Pro, Final Cut or Avid? Hmm not now but in the futures I'm sure it will be big competitor. HitFilm is simple and complete software for editing and post production. Is has many effects, plugins, presets. This will be enough for many users, especially beginners. It is not hard to learn interface and features. It has everything what that kind of software possibly need. But there is something missing. I like that there is software that can be great solution for amateur filmmaker that can't afford for example Premiere Pro. But there is one advantage HitFilm has over other softwares. It has great implementation of post production add ons. For example for editing and post production you need Premier Pro and After Effects from Adobe. In HitFilm you have combined features of this two programs. This is very good option for beginner users. HitFilm has also Store where you can buy pack of effects. This is great option for many youtubers right now.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Besides that HitFilm is good software I don't like system requirements for HitFilm. It has not high requirements but on the older PC and Mac's it runs slowly.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

I recommend this product for beginner users. Software has everything and more that beginners need. So it is great solution for them because sometimes they can get HitFilm for free (special promo actions).

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm doing videos for online. I have to have simple and solid solutions for doing video quick.

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

Best thing in HitFilm is that software is complex and have everything you need to edit. Besides edit possibility there are great plugins. Sometimes HitFilm do promo actions where you can get software for free! I get it in last Star Wars promo action :)

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I don't like in HitFilm that it needs much computer power. For example my footage from Canon 60D is smoothly played in Adobe Premiere or Final Cut but it is freeze the frames in HitFilm. This is one of the biggest weakness of HitFilm.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

HitFilm is very good piece of software. Unfortunately you need to have much computer power to run it smoothly. But there are plenty of great plugins and it is verty intuitive. So if you have money on Premier Pro this is great solution.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped me to edit videos when I didn't have any other software.

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I enjoy using this program for creating special effects certain visual effects for video production

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The actual editing system is pretty basic and not that useful in comparison to other editing system. I don't think HitFilm stacks up to Final Cut or Adobe Premiere, but is better than a program like iMovie

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

Work on the editing system. The visual creating features are very helpful and well implemented, but the editing system is too basic.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No, I do not use this program right now for professional purposes on a daily basis. I did use it for a business promotional video that I edited

  ### 48. Great tool for beginners

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I used HitFilm for few videos. I'm not advanced user and it was first time when I used any software for editing. HitFilm is very friendly and has simple interface. There are many options but the main ones are visible. It has great effects and presets which every beginner will be satisfied. I know more advanced users could do more advanced projects.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

There is nothing I don't like in HitFilm. Maybe it run slow on my computer, but I don't have powerfull laptop.

**Recommendations to others considering Fxhome by Artlist:**

I recommend HitFilm for beginner users. Software is really simple to learn and it help you to do video quickly.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I made few simple videos from integration trip of my company. HitFilm helps me do this quick without almost any knowledge of editing programs.

  ### 49. HitFilm is an excellent video/VFX compositor. I have been truly amazed with all you can do with it.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Gambling & Casinos | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2016

**What do you like best about Fxhome by Artlist?**

I like the ability to do composting and editing in one product. The fact you can change something in your composite shot and it shows up in real time in the editor is sweet.

**What do you dislike about Fxhome by Artlist?**

The interface takes a little while to get use too but after you use it for awhile it gets easier to use.

**What problems is Fxhome by Artlist solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am editing educational videos for my work. The benefits is being able to do some minor VFX so the videos are not so boring.
