## Functionly Reviews
  ### 1. Our Go-To Tool for Adaptive Organization Design

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacobi J. | Managing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

At LC GLOBAL®, we specialize in adaptive organization design, and Functionly has quickly become our go-to tool. What made us choose it over its competitors was the lean implementation process—straightforward, fast, and remarkably easy to navigate. Much of the platform is highly intuitive, which made adoption seamless across our projects and teams.

We particularly value the range of team-based design functions it offers, which align perfectly with the kinds of collaborative, dynamic organization designs we develop with our clients. The support team deserves special mention—they are responsive, informed, and consistently helpful. Their guidance makes a real difference.

This tool strikes the right balance between structure and adaptability—just what you need when working with organizations navigating complexity, change, and fast growth.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Our overall experience has been excellent. Just the export functions still need refinement. Occasionally, exports come out partially cut off or formatted in a way that needs additional cleanup. As Functionly consistently never stands still to improve its services, we are sure that it's going to get even better over time.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We specialize in adaptive organization design and development and predominantly work with fast-growing companies or units. Functionly helps us visualize massive data to start the conversation of where we want to go or could go together.

  ### 2. Exceptional Support and a True Strategic Partner

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Our experience with Functionly has been very positive. It delivers a robust and user-friendly platform that has enabled our team to create a near 'always on' organizational chart.

What truly sets Functionly apart is their commitment to customer success. Their support team is nothing short of amazing – responsive, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile to address any questions or concerns. Beyond that, the strategic partnership has been invaluable, demonstrating their dedication to understanding and meeting our specific needs, as well as being very receptive to feedback to help continue to improve the platform in future iterations. It’s clear they're dedicated to refining their product based on real-world user experiences.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

We're just hoping to see further evolutions of HRIS x Functionly APIs, so that we can achieve a true 'always on' org chart for planning in the future.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping our exec team understand KPIs and job responsibilities across the business, and keep a close eye on any redundancies, allowing us to optimize our workforce. Also allowing us to plan future iterations our of our workforce.

  ### 3. This is a next level six star org design tool!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Glenn B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Functionly is truly a game-changer in the realm of organizational development tools. As a consultant, I've had the pleasure of utilizing the platform multiple times, and I am consistently blown away by its impeccable user experience. The platform's functionality is top-notch and makes my work so much more efficient. I've had the unique experience of journeying alongside the product development team and it's evident that they genuinely value and consider user feedback, which speaks volumes about their commitment to continuous improvement. I can't rave enough about Functionly. Highly recommend!

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

I've been using the tool since it first launched and what I have appreciated is Functionly's response to feedback. They are so quick to listen and improving the product!

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

Do it! It will change the way you see your organisation and lead it!

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Understanding roles and responsibilities,
Making job descriptions live and relevant,
Excellent visual overview of the company structure,
Developing clear lines of accountability within the company,
One source of truth for organisational design.

  ### 4. Remarkable Capabilities and Fresh Perspective

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clark F. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

I love the capabilities that Functionaly presents to me when it comes to better understanding my organization's capabilities. The canned functions, along with the ability to assign individuals within the org chart to their functional area, have helped to provide crisp clarity to the gaps in our staffing, capabilities, and preparedness to scale and meet our larger strategic objectives.

Additionally, the ability to utilize this tool to develop forward-facing staffing plans, with costing, skill set needs, and utilizing that to shape our recruitment and interview prioritization and execution has been immensely valuable.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Some features are present and powerful but not as apparent or obvious when you're new to the application. A brief call with the Funcitonly team QUICKLY demonstrated the team's thoughtfulness and feature-rich application. I wish I hadn't needed the assistance, but 85% of my needs were met intuitively. It's that last 15% that would be my biggest gripe. (And it's not a big one)

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Functionaly is providing a fresh view of our organizational structure, capabilities, growth areas, opportunities, and skill density.

The ability to quickly identify gaps in skills or capabilities helps to identify the gaps in our company's roles to strategically plan, tactically execute, and grow into the organization we want to be.

  ### 5. Great tool for businesses that evolve!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul V. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Generally, an org chart becomes obsolete the next day it's been finalized. The great thing about Functionly is that it splits the reporting and the accountabilities. Reporting does not change much generally, but new accountabilities in a business come up every day and Functionly makes it easy to assign them as they come without affecting the reporting chart. The result is that at any time, any employee can see who is responsible for what in the organization and every employee is clearly aware of their accountabilities.
Most important for such a powerful tool is the excellent support!

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

I wish there were more tutorial videos on how to strategically build a Functionly chart. Should we start from the functions, the teams, the roles or the people? A blank template (no functions, no roles) would be good too, or at least an option to remove all the functions and roles from a template.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Functionly gives me the ability to adjust the accountabilities without affecting the reporting org chart and it clarifies the accountabilities across the organization.

  ### 6. Helping us plan our growth

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason R. | COO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2021

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

It helps us think more clearly about the functions we'll need and where they'll fit in our team, instead of just drawing an org chart. The user interface is modern and elegant. Their people (including the CEO) are eager to listen to feedback and brainstorm about how to make the product better.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

I'd like to be able to understand the impact of our plans in terms of the list of personnel changes and the effect on our cashflow -- but they've done a great job of listening to my comments and giving me confidence that they understand and have ideas to enhance their product to help.

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

Take advantage of the opportunity to talk with their team. They're interested in what you're trying to accomplish, and they'll help point you in the right direction.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're a new startup, and we're planning our growth. In the old days, I would have drawn an org chart in Visio and kept track of numbers in Excel. With Functionly, I'm able to think through the functions we'll need, where those functions best fit in the organization, and which roles we'll need on each team. It's helping us to do better planning and to communicate our plans to the team.

  ### 7. Boost your org chart planning productivity by 10X

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ivan K. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Functionly did save a lot of my time comparing with chart builders(draw.io, etc) when I did plan org structure for my startup because it purpose-built. Also, I like:
1. Templates for functions and jobs
2. Lightweight and easy to use UI with drag and drop
3. Ability to build multiple org chart scenarios and compare
4. Possibility to export org chart and job descriptions
5. Generous 22 days free trial (no credit card required)

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

It already gives excellent value, however, there are a lot of features that will skyrocket this value in the future, for example adding KPI's to each position and making them live via connecting to data sources via Zapier. Also, there are minor UX issues, which I believe will be resolved in the future, like adding vacant position as a manager, inability to add a team on the top of other teams (but there is backdoor for this, you can add a new team and then put other teams inside this team)

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

Try to build few different scenarios, of course, based on your use case - growth, hiring, restructuring.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I did build growth scenarios for my startup - primeclass.io. Functionly did save a lot of my time on this. Here I can drag and drop prebuilt components -teams, jobs, functions into my orgchart. Another great feature is that Functionly shows which function unassigned to the team members. It is dead simple to use and a pleasure to work in Functionly, comparing with other chart solutions where you need to do everything from the scratch.

  ### 8. Functionaly does org chart right

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ernest K. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

team-based org modeling; built-in function library and ability to put people into multiple teams

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

UX is a bit rough, or janky in some areas, needs autoscroll and more progressive disclosure, no dotted lines or non-primary views/layers, sharing functionality is a bit limited, and we connection to JustWorks and other HR systems is a real requirement. Stuff appears too dense at a small scale.

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

this is the only tool that let's you plan and model an organization--we all start out thinking we want to make an org chart, but what we really need to do is to plan an org, from which the org chart materializes.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Org chart development and team structure development

**Official Response from Tim Brewer:**

> Eric thanks so much for the feedback we are just going live with our "JustWorks" integration next week! I have also provided feedback to the team and we have the usability feedback on our bugs and backlog lists. Best Tim

  ### 9. Great, easy to use, business tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

The user interface is easy to interact with, they is enough functionality to grow into, and they are just getting started!

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Since they are just getting started, there are some like-to-haves that need to be addressed, but in discussions with the team there, they are on the roadmaps.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Org Chart management and sharing, restructuring visibility, growth/talent movements, etc.

  ### 10. Functionaly Helped Us Navigate the Pandemic

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arnie B. | Co-Founder & CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

We have always needed the ability to view our org by job function and accountability. We never knew this until we were part of the beta program a couple years ago. It was an a-ha moment, but immediately clicked. We have been using Functionaly as it has been evolving over the past few years and it is now an important part of our operations. We review the output regularly at our Quarterly Offsites and it really helps align Managers to their Direct Reports. Also, being able to view the org in various dimensions is extremely useful for identifying gaps. During the pandemic, we moved to a 100% remote workforce. This created an immediate need for greater visibility into who does what and how we would manage an immediate need for new accountabilities. Functionaly solved these problems.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

A few UI features are not as intuitive as I would like. In the latest release, there is an inability to remove People and I like a clean dataset. These aren't big deals.

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

Consider how flawed a regular org chart is. Companies have org charts which don't align with how people actually interact on a day-to-day basis between each other, the roles and descriptions they were hired for and expectations with those not directly involved in the hiring process. Noodle on how things are and how you would like them to be, then play around with this product. This product is creating a new category so don't spend too much time trying to rationalize the output like a traditional org chart. Suspend disbelief momentarily and just let the output sink in.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

2 big problems we are solving are 1. organized buckets to assign responsibilities and accountability and 2. a very fast way to identify gaps in the organization. #2 is a big deal because historically when something went wrong people just pointed fingers. Once we implemented Functionaly we quickly realized that accountabilities and responsibilities that managers thought were assigned, were actually not. This really helped us become more efficient at solving problems quickly and reduced anxiety with management team.

  ### 11. Like Trello for Organisation Design

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ty H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

This tool saves me time and makes me look good with clients. I no longer have to waste time cobbling together Powerpoints and Excel to show different ways to structure a modern marketing team. I can instead drag and drop individuals and teams, and create multiple scenarios in a flash. I can also create a library of functions that can be re-used, and it can help generate position descriptions. All in all it is a powerful, intuitive, purpose-built tool that is perfect for designing modern teams.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

There is not much to dislike about this tool, and if there's ever an issue the team are super responsive. The only feature that will improve it in future, is a decent export function in multiple formats so that you can include the org design in reports.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm a consultant who helps Chief Marketing Officers to design modern marketing teams, and I use Functionly to help me design and present multiple ways to do this - from product-centric, audience-centric, hub and spoke, to agile teams etc. It allows me to easily show which functions exist in which teams, who's on what teams, who reports into who and whether there is any double-up in functions. Once you've agreed on the final structure, you can then allocate accountabilities and responsibilities, and create position descriptions right from inside the tool. It has saved me many many hours mucking around with Powerpoint, Excel and Word.

  ### 12. Resource expanding software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tara D. | National Dietetic Clinical Adviser, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Functionly saves me money, headaches and addresses problems I didn't think could be solved with a beautiful piece of software. I can manage the org chart and jobs to be done directly in functionly so I don't need to manage my organisational chart/roles/responsibilities and our team understand the expectations, their role and can perform at their best in a fast-moving agile environment.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

So far, I like all things functionly. I would love a startup tier as I think there are other businesses like ours that may not yet see the benefits to using functionly. I would like to see future integrations link with LinkedIn to import team members

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

It's a versatile software that is intuitive and good-looking. It's functional and once set up helpful to communicate with team members.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Job expectations of employees. Cross-overs of roles within the organisation and in different departments. Replication of org chart for stakeholders. Seeing gaps that need to be filled. Identifying job-creep.

  ### 13. Work design that makes sense

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ron S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

The tool is very simple to use, but more importantly it encourages you to think differently about work design. When used properly it requires you to think beyond a 'cascade' of goals to a truly functional design.

It can help clarify roles and decision rights. It forces teams to have more meaningful conversations
It helped my most recent client address issues that had previously been a constant challenge and point of conflict. it also helped reinforce what they all agreed on, which was more than they thought.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

There are occasionally too many 'clicks' required which can slow you down and for inexperienced users can cause some confusion but this is being remedied in each subsequent update

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

Great tool to integrate into your tool kit.

Be prepared to put the time in up front to get the inputs right (to state the obvious - garbage in, garbage out). Once that's done the rest is simple and requires only a small commitment to keep it up to date.

When using the tool always start with defining your functional library, then move on to team structure and finally individual design.

You could easily see this as a re-org tool, that you use once and then not look at until the next re-org. If you use this on a regular basis the inevitable reorgs are much simpler and more effective

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Critical decisions and responsibilities are occasionally lost within the quagmire of stuff that some of my clients are dealing with as they scale. This causes both ineffectiveness and sometimes conflict

  ### 14. A must for modern day organisations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zaklina T. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

I love a lot of things - the intuitive drag and drop functionality, the way information is visualised and the ability to plan multiple scenarios whilst retaining master. I also love the potential of the product and what it could solve for us in the future.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Has been a little buggy in some instances however the support team is onto fixes and workarounds right away.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Functionly is helping us paint a picture of our organisation in a way that truly reflects how we work and plan for the future in an unconstrained way. The greatest so far was when realised a major gap when mapping accountabilities. The way Functionly visualised it for us made it so obvious, it changed the conversation with key stakeholders in a positive way. It was no longer unimportant and uncertain but clear and urgent. It meant we could spend more time working on a solution instead of understanding the problem to be fixed.

  ### 15. Functionaly has come at a great time for organisational change.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul M. | Non Executive Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

The way the application works to provide you a visual representation of your organisational structure. With the ability to drag and drop people, and accountabilities into roles, it takes organisational design to the next level.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

We'd really like to be able to see budget distribution across departments and teams. But the rate of change and improvement in the application has been astonishing. I can see everything they are doing is making our job of managing resources in a new normal is getting easier every single release.

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

Functionly helps businesses to make sense of complex org structures that might not fit in the box. It's low cost and delivers great value to the organisation in terms of understanding how best to structure and build the system.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having to figure out how to use Excel, PowerPoint and Org-Charts to get the accountabilities, people structure and alignment to work. Gone are the days of those damn connection lines... Functionly makes this so good and easy.

  ### 16. Great experience so far!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

The Team are hands on, and keen to understand how their software can better assist the needs of our business. Experience so far with the software is that it is intuitive, and allows us to carry out multiple tasks within one platform collaboratively - win/win!

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

That I don't have my whole team using it just yet!

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

Talk to the team - they are ready to help, and have been able to help overcome every snag encountered so far!

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're trying to formalise our structure, processes, flow and create greater accountability within our team.
We've realised that the easier we make understanding the business possible, the more diverse the collaborative contributions are - this is a great software platform for encouraging a more unified approach to our day to day workload.

  ### 17. Exact functionality I have been looking for

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael W. | Managing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Being able to capture all business outcomes at a granular level. Being able to create several scenarios and reusing data easily. Additionally, the FTE calculation of duties is a great feature.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Cannot print or save to incorporate into business strategy documents etc.

**Recommendations to others considering Functionly:**

Definitely give it a go; I was going to build something very similar if I did not find it!

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Can visualise and articulate gaps in current roles, who is wearing "too many hats", what the organisation will look like in the future.

  ### 18. Best org chart software out there, clearly based in org science

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David C. | Chief Executive Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

The templates roles, responsibilities, and the editable library are extremely valuable.

Super awesome customer support, great scrappy startup team that is customer driven.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Can be a little buggy as to be expected given their stage, a tad bit on the expensive side given the use case is not exactly “monthly” at a company my size.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Org design, reporting, roles and responsibilities, hiring plans.

  ### 19. Modern org chart

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Functionly is much more than an org chart, it actually helps design org structure that reflects how people actually work and interact.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

It's still in relatively early stage of development, so not everything is polished. But I was already, even at this stage, was able to gain a tremendous amount of value.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One problem I'm solving is the ability to see into the future how an organizational structure might look like when we grow.

  ### 20. Incredible platform, better than the current market leaders

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Visualizations, ease of use, and pre-built roles

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

The platform is still evolving and so there are things you'll want it to do that it can't yet do (but the alternatives, to be fair, don't do those things either)

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Org design, visualization, and communication

  ### 21. Intelligent org design.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Focusing on work functions and activities vs reporting and names creates a higher quality org design in far less time. Also, the pick lists of functions and activities for each role

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Not being able to identify who the lead is for a shared function.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Functionly was vital in designing our organization as a start up with customers. As a result of the Functionly designed organization we fully understand the work and the roles required to perform the work. It also allows us to see where we have holes that need filling as we grow.

  ### 22. Great for the growing company

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jindou L. | CEO & Founder, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

It’s a great tool to help understand the bottlenecks and challenges faced by startups as they grow. Kind of like a spreadsheet on steroids.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

It’s constantly evolving. So I wish they had everything already built out!

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Understanding and mapping out the jobs and roles that’s needed across our company. Provides visibility for myself as we grow

  ### 23. What organisational design has been missing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mining & Metals | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Functionly?**

Dynamic organisation chart design
Detail down to tasks - in discovery phase find out who does what where
Duplication of resources identified
Under resourced tasks identified

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Nothing! Updates with feedback on improvements are being released very frequently

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Designing growth or reduction of organisational structures so that you you don't miss doing business critical tasks
Finding under resourcing or duplication/over resourcing - redeployment of resources/time to make the business more efficient

  ### 24. Great org design tool!

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2020

Drag and drop accountabilities, job description generator and accountabilities library.

**What do you dislike about Functionly?**

Views, editing interface still needs work. No import/export functionality yet.

**What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Designing an organisation based on jobs to be done, not boxes to be filled.
