## FOUNDATION Reviews
  ### 1. Excellent Job Costing but Pricey Modules

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marah C. | F, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2026

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

I really appreciate FOUNDATION's ability to pull reports for job margins and cost code analysis. It's great for job costing on construction projects. I also like how all the auxiliary programs that FOUNDATION offers integrate really well into the system, making it easy to match all costs to budget items. Additionally, the FOUNDATION team put in a lot of effort to ensure our initial setup went smoothly.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

It is a little expensive. You have to pay for each module and program, and each time you want to add a module, your price increases.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FOUNDATION is great at job costing for construction projects. It allows me to pull reports for job margins and cost code analysis and the auxiliary programs integrate well, matching costs to budget items easily.

  ### 2. Foundation Software is a Critical key to keeping projects and our company in budget and profitable

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** TOM H. | Project Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2025

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

We need to ensure our reports are well-organized to effectively manage our budget and track all costs associated with each project, including cost codes. Additionally, we should consider summarizing all projects together. With this software, the possibilities are endless; we can track various expenses, including labor, equipment, materials, and overhead.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

When I started using this software, I found it to be field-based, meaning you have to fill in each field or block to access different functions. It took me some time to get used to this approach, but I can't think of another way to perform these tasks. Once you become familiar with navigating the system, it’s worth it.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking all costs against our budget and actual expenses for each project is crucial. This data will help us improve profitability in future projects.

  ### 3. Useful for payroll and employee management, not enough storage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kimberly K. | People Resource Representative, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2023

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

The business I worked for could use Foundation for almost all aspects of their construction business. I appreciated the frequent, timely updates, the multiple available reports we used for compliance tracking, and the ease of use for payroll recordkeeping.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

We were not able to integrate Foundation with our heavy equipment usage and service schedule. It was also a daily annoyance that I could not "search" for an employee by their name.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All steps of payroll processing, including taxes and compliance reporting. The one-stop shop, especially the system-generated reports, saved me HOURS! The ability to regenerate old W2s was also quite helpful.

  ### 4. Review of Foundation

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Penny H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2023

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

Once the system is learned, it is relatively easy to use and easy to teach others to use. The project accounting module is good and easily adaptable to different accounting approaches.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

Support for problems is rarely addressed as quickly as you would like. You have to call and log a request for support and wait for them to call you back. Often when they call back you are not available.
Their support for the integration with Procore is largely non-existent.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They aren't really solving any problems for me except that they organize our project accounting.

  ### 5. All In One Solution

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer T. | Office Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2023

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

I like that all of the modules integrate with each other to give a total picture in one location. It eliminates the need for multiple tracking sources.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

Sometimes it's a little difficult to get report parameters set up properly to see the exact information needed

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having all information tracked in one location, and all departments integrating

  ### 6. Platform is robust but the user interface needs work.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2023

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

Has multiple modules like AR/AP/Payroll/Procurement and a user guide. Support staff is really helpful. Geared towards Construction Accounting. However, it seems competitors like Procore will fare better on project management features.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

The user interface seems choppy. System reacts slow. Custom reports is limited, would like to do more with this. Lacks drag/drop features compared to systems like Procore. Its not browser based. There is also this clunky way of saving files in the system that makes you not want to save files for how slow it is.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Foundation really helps on the accounting side but the other modules like Procurement and Project Management need improvements. Our performance has been stable. Being able to track payments and invoices really helps.

  ### 7. Foundation Accounting Program

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew M. | System Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2021

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

The most useful items that we used repeatedly were documentation and their training courses to help understand the structure and interworkings. The Training provided the needed help with Report writing to get the full potential out of the software

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

The existing reports didn't always give you all the information needed. The need for custom Reports was a must. Foundation has been making improvements, but our best reports are still created in MS Query and pulled into Access or Excel.

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

It goes back to reporting and custom Reports. My biggest suggestion and what helped me the most is the MS Query Training Course that Foundation offers. It is an online class that is once a month for the year and goes over linking tables building reports, and evening gives you templates to build your reports from. It allowed me to create customized detail Job Analysis reports and Aging reports pulling in information not usually found on a built in report.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Once Foundation is set up correctly, you can pull all the information you want from the program. Utilizing our custom reports, we can get down to the nitty-gritty. You are identifying where problems lay and is the most profitable parts.

  ### 8. Accounting software that has it all

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard G. | Chief Business Officer, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2021

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

There are multiple layers to Foundation and their customer service is excellent.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

There are lots of layers to Foundation and it can feel a little cumbersome. It also doesn't talk to our other software, which is difficult.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are quickly balancing our a/p and a/r, as well as payroll and financial reporting. We have saved a lot of money through the evaluative reporting.

  ### 9. Excellent detailed Job Costing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marc B. | Controller, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2020

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

The job costing module is fully integrated with the general ledger and payroll modules making the booking of entries into the various modules seamless. The financial reporting module is very flexible in terms of exporting to PDF, Excel or word formats and editing of reports in these formats is very easy.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

Some of the WIP reports are a little to basic and could do with more substantive reporting features.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Detailed job costing is critical to understanding where you are on a job in terms of profitability and this is excellent with Foundation. Enables you to consolidate multiple entities financial information into one consolidated FS module.

  ### 10. Not for the Construction Industry

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erica W. | Assistant Project Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2020

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

There is not necessarily anything spectacular or that makes this program better than similar programs.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

This program, when used in the construction industry, makes it difficult to do certified payroll on wage scale projects. The reports are also not always able to provide the information in a way that is useful.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have not really solved any problems or found benefits of this program over previous programs we have used.

  ### 11. Great tool for tracking labor costs

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2020

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

I like the ability to pull all job costs in a single report after invoices and time-cards are posted. There are labor reports, as well as job total reports that show the remaining committed costs from your budget.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

You have to adjust the week ending dates to the current week to get up to date reports. If you use the current date, it will have reports from the previous weeks costs.

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

Save shortcuts on your home screen for the reports you use most frequently. This will save you a couple of steps and prevent you from having to select the specific reports and specific jobs

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Knowing the remaining hours left in your budget is a key to tracking job profitability. It also helps to be able to see open purchase orders and other committed costs that would not necessarily show up in some reports.

  ### 12. This was a huge change from QuickBooks, and many people were upset with this program.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katelynn A. | E-Commerce Copywriter and Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2019

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

There are a lot of capabilities that Foundation gave us that QuickBooks couldn't. The main issue with QuickBooks was it's ability to handle our accounting with how much the company had grown. That's ultimately why we made the switch. One of the best things about Foundation is being able to share invoice documents with project managers for review online instead of giving them physical copies.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

There are some functions that we were unable to utilize without upgrading or purchasing other functions despite us buying these functions, and that was pretty annoying. Also, the program ran incredibly slowly, and that bothered most of our users. Lastly, only a select number of people could be online at any given time, and that often caused issues with our work flow.

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

It does take awhile to get used to the format of Foundation, especially when switching from something like QuickBooks, but if your employees are willing to learn, it can be a great tool.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Receiving approvals on invoices in a timely manner was the biggest benefit we had from this software.

**Official Response from Damian Petrini:**

> Hi Katelynn,

Thanks for your feedback! We're happy to hear FOUNDATION was an improvement for Strack, Inc. from QuickBooks, and that it simplified communicating information throughout your company. Many of our clients are former QuickBooks users who came to FOUNDATION for its user-friendly capabilities, so we're sorry to hear you experienced some frustration.

We are currently in contact with Stack, Inc. to discuss and eliminate any issues that could help FOUNDATION operate more efficiently. We look forward to working with you on a resolution.

  ### 13. Foundation is a wonderful Accounting program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2019

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

We’ve only been usi by a foundation for a year and a half but I like that I’m continuously finding new benefits. There are tons of ways to rearrange and view your data and there are even better options with each update.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

It’s not amazing for our material billing when it comes to construction, but I still like it better than Maxwell.

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

Do it!

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s become very helpful to be able to dig into an invoice without having to pull the paperwork from the file.

  ### 14. Awesome

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 10, 2019

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

What i like best about foundation is that it is very user friendly.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

When you have uploaded a file to the system it takes awhile to load

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

It is very easy to use. Entering files is very quick. My company uses the attachment feature in the system so we can look at the file without physically having it.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Foundation has made it easier as a company to see all the information of the jobs we enter.

  ### 15. Extremely powerful construction software but that power has some disadvantages...

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelly K. | Accounting Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2018

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

Extremely customizable, super great support, consultants who really know the industry, many opportunities for learning more about the software, powerful.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

Due to the database structure some tasks can seem extremely repetitious and time consuming, has a definite learning curve because there is so much to it.

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

Watch the youtube tutorials, don't rush your migration, don't be afraid to take advantage of their support and attend the user conferences. User conferences are incredible. Plan your migration and how you are going to integrate Foundation into your office culture. You need the data coming in from the field and from project managers to make it successful, it's not just an accounting software. It's definitely worth it.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a construction company we rely on Foundation to provide us with job cost data on a high level. We are able to track our jobs better and increase profitability and have a software that is truly built for the construction industry.

AIA invoices were easily created

  ### 17. Not user friendly, very basic.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marissa R. | Project Accountant, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2018

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

none

  ### 18. Great software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikki C. | Project Coordinator, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2018

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

Very user friendly and easy to navigate.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

It would be very helpful if Foundation had spellcheck and also larger character limits.

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

Great software for construction based companies!

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Job Costing projects is much easier.

  ### 19. Everything needed

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2018

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

Everything we need to do or access is in one program.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

Multi-state tax reporting. We cross other states and need to pay sales and use tax. Difficult to report, most is manual.

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

Acquire it, you won't be disappointed!

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick and easy access to reports

  ### 20. Accounting Software Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2017

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

Software is user friendly and produces clean reports. There is some user flexibility in definable fields and the ability to create custom reports. The query feature is great but you need a very strong excel users to be able to manage and use it.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

The document routing for AP has a lot of room for improvement. It is clunky and leaves very little room for error. Revising invoices is cumbersome. The routing rules need more flexibility. Longer field description lengths would be helpful. Character limitations make things difficult.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Foundation for all of our accounting.

  ### 21. Great finance software, not so great project manager

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2017

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

The job cost and budget options/features

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

The project management module is lacking and very limited

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

Pay for and take the seminar/class after you have had a chance to experience and explore the software on your own.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to track cost of each job and in great detail and run multiple reports.

  ### 22. Easy and Confusing

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2018

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

It uses the same terminology we use in construction.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

No back button, opens multiple tabs, the add/modify option is confusing, similar names for different functions also confusing

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Payroll and helps with union jobs

  ### 23. Foundation for Construction

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2018

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

I like that I can go into Foundation and all of my daily reports are right in front of me at anytime

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

A lot of the times Foundation runs really slow or iit takes a while to load everything up.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like I said before, in construction you have a lot of job reports that you fill out daily and they are at your fingertips

  ### 24. Once you learn the ropes you will never go back.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christin W. | Accounts Payable Coordinator, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 25, 2016

**What do you like best about FOUNDATION?**

Everything is at your fingertips as long as you know how to look for it. All your numbers, figures, jobs, vendors, everything. Once you understand the workings of the program, it is all fairly simple: Enter information and fill in the blanks then hit enter. You want to know how much we spent on masonry on a job? Dumpsters? Easy. Want to know which invoice came first? Whether an invoice has been paid already? All at the touch of your keyboard. Reports can show you a wide range of variables: money spent, money left, money to be collected, money already collected, where the money was spent and on what.

**What do you dislike about FOUNDATION?**

If you are new to using the program and don't have a kind mentor or some REALLY good notes you will never get anywhere. Kind of complicated to learn, but very simple once you've got it.

**Recommendations to others considering FOUNDATION:**

Be sure to have someone who actually knows and works with the program teach it to you upon installation. Also, the people over there at Foundation Help are really awesome and will help you with anything you may need.

**What problems is FOUNDATION solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I must keep hundreds of vendors and jobs straight. All the invoices, payments, and company info comes through my desk. Foundation is the only thing standing between me and utter chaos. My boss needs a report? Easy as a few keystrokes and clicks on my mouse. Never would be so on top of the info on my own.
