FortiGate-VM NGFW Reviews & Product Details

I use the Fortigate-VM NGFW in my Azure infrastructure and the equipment works very well, it meets all my demands, it has never crashed or needed to be restarted for something to work again.

No lag in GUI- While doing modifications or switching to multiple tabs via the GUI, no lag was experienced and very quick page responses.

SD-WAN- Using SD-WAN links for Internet connection is more granular to monitor application utilization and link SLA status. And using SD-WAN in IPsec VPN connection is more efficient to compare with normal fail-over configurations.

Cross-product support- Without any additional WLAN controller, via FortiGate we can easily configure& monitor Forti Access points& clients and also manage Forti switch.

Easy to troubleshoot- In the forward traffic log session, more details and filters are available. Additionally, using packet capture and diagnostic commands will provide more details, which is helpful to resolve issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Customer support- Directly connecting support by using global call support will take more time to reach technical team and most of the time they ask to wait for call back. In most of the cases, after some days they will reply over the case, by asking to clarify some details and finally verified all the shared details& logs then only they will connect via remote support.

Fortinet having many security-products to integrate with FortiGate, but cost wise some products(Forti Token, EMS) are too high with compare to other OEMs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The thing I like the most it's the Security Fabric Integration the thing about FG it's that it isn't just a firewall , it is part of Fortinet’s Security Fabric, which means it works seamlessly with other Fortinet devices like FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager, FortiAP, FortiSwitch and many more and it allows centralized management and automation. The thing that I dislike the most It's the Firmware Stability , in terms that , versions may contain some bugs that would make you to rollback to a previous version and Couse mayor setback on the task, new firmware releases sometimes introduce unexpected bugs, especially in major updates (like 7.2 or 7.4).

The best part of FortiGate NGFW is, it's user friendly interface and strong network protection ability. We can manage multiple FortiGate firewall through FortiManager also. It can be easily integrate with other security solutions also. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The Technical support service is very poor. Most of the time it has been observed that when it is needed for technical support the support engineer generally provide FortiGate Document for solution, Not provide remote support as like other venders like Sophos or Cisco. Fortigate Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) has the capacity to protect the systems from different types of attacks like DOS, DDOS, brute force attacks, ransomwares, man in the middle attacks, session hijacking and more. Its intrusion detection and prevention system is very good and robust. It provides a great management console to the network administrators for monitoring security performance and fine tuning the required configurations. Its packet filtering, Anti spam and IPsec features are very good and useful. We have been using it since many years and has got a great support from OEM whenever required. The Fortigate NGFW is a great product and there are no dislikes as such. The logging and alert mechanism is also very good. It is a reliable and stable product and does not affect network performance. However it is sometimes hard to configure in an existing network. Its intrusion prevention system is very good and robust. 1. FortiGate NGFW is easy to configure and set up. The maintenance cost is low.

2. The dashboard is user-friendly and easy to understand.

3. Configuring any rule is an easy task as we can define the source, destination, ports, and services of our choice.

4. VPN configuration such as site-to-site and Remote VPN can also be configured which is much needed for organizations that have offices in different cities.

1. Firmware upgrade process needs downtime and its get malfunction sometime. Due to which we need to restart the services of firewall. 2. It should have more third party integration features as the vendor list is very limited. 3. Configuration of High Availability is quite difficult and this process need to be made easier. 4. Fortigate VM keeps the boundary of our virtual environments secure. Fortigates have one of the easier interfaces to navigate, and their documentation is pretty thorough. forti VM allows us to maintain the same product suite across different environments to provide consistent security Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

not limited to forti VM, but fortinets quality control on patches can leave a little to be desired. not the end of the world if you pay attention, but perhaps isn't as robust as other vendors Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Fortinet has such an easy UI to navigate; it makes networking much easier for my environment.

Setting up remote sites to connect to the main site has never been easier, our entire infrastructure is Fortinet so we configure, monitor and use it every single day.

Support is quick and very knowledgeable and helps us with networking issues.

There are a ton of features that we use and some that we are very interested in getting (AI integration).

It is very simple and easy to add multiple new Fortinet devices to the environment.
