# What should data analysts evaluate when comparing embedded BI solutions for drag-and-drop ease?

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Every vendor in the <a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/embedded-business-intelligence"><strong>Embedded Business Intelligence category</strong></a> claims drag-and-drop. Here's what I'd want to test in an evaluation:</p><ul>
<li>How many steps from opening the tool to a chart that answers a real question</li>
<li>Whether calculated fields are drag-and-drop or drop into a proprietary expression language</li>
<li>Whether drag-and-drop survives the embed, or only exists in the standalone authoring tool</li>
<li>What happens to the interface at realistic data volume</li>
<li>Whether an analyst can change a dashboard without a developer ticket, which is the actual promise underneath "drag-and-drop"</li>
</ul><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Platforms worth benchmarking against:</p><ol>

<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/sigma-computing-sigma/reviews"><strong>Sigma</strong></a> — Ranks high on Calculated Fields, the highest in the mainstream group, with a spreadsheet interface over live warehouse data.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/reveal-2022-05-24/reviews"><strong>Reveal</strong></a> — With drag-and-drop dashboard creation delivered inside the host app rather than alongside it.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/tableau/reviews"><strong>Tableau</strong></a> — The deepest reviewer base for judging what drag-and-drop feels like in practice.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/looker/reviews"><strong>Looker</strong></a> — The drag-and-drop experience depends on LookML modelling done first by someone else.</li>

&lt;p&gt;I’d deliberately hand the demo to an analyst who hasn’t seen the product before. Give them a question, not instructions, and see how far they get. That would expose the difference between genuine drag-and-drop and an interface that only feels simple after someone has already built the model underneath it.&lt;/p&gt;
