What do you dislike about Fauna? Although you can setup private endpoints to connect privately via AWS, I can't find any documentation on doing the same for on-premise architecture. What problems is Fauna solving and how is that benefiting you? No infrastrucutre management, means we don't have the overhead of system administrators/DBAs, we don't need to manage replication/scaleability, and there's no requirement for OS updates with downtime etc. The costs scale with usage, which isn't true of traditional/on-premise systems.
