As a buy-side equity analyst, FactSet has everything I need to conduct detailed company reports we use internally as a research-driven investment firm. I couldn't think of not having FactSet as part of my day-to-day tools for go-to information. **What do you dislike about FactSet Workstation?** FactSet can be challenging to navigate given its many extensive tools. It can often feel difficult to find specific information easily. It would also be great to see AI play a greater role since FactSet holds such a large amount of data on it's platform. AI could help save lots of time giving me the exact information I need like a 5 or 10-year CAGR number, market share, and historical industry data. **What problems is FactSet Workstation solving and how is that benefiting you?** FactSet has provided every key piece of information I need as an analyst to conduct detailed reports on equity securities and allows me to monitor our company holdings in our clients’ portfolios with ease of use. I'm able to keep up to date on every equity security, and by having one place to go, it saves me time from having to jump back and forth from a company's investor relations page looking for key information, especially during earnings season. ### 2. My account rep is very courteous and checks in with me. **What do you dislike about FactSet Workstation?** Probably make it easier for a user to clone the setup of a watchlist like Seeking Alpha does. If let's say I like to see Market Cap, P/E ratio and EBITDA as the columns I'm interested, I'll have to recreate it everytime I want a different list. We use the platform extensively and leverage a wide variety of FactSet tools and products ranging from basic features like real time pricing and the Company/Security tab to more niche tools like Portfolio Analysis and Internal Research Notes. Our team has also developed an extensive suite of customized tools and views that are shared across all FactSet users at our firm. **What do you dislike about FactSet Workstation?** I believe there are several common reports within sections like Estimates that FactSet could make small changes to that would unlock further value to users. However, my impression is that FactSet can be hesitant to make changes to reports/tools that have been around a long time and are widely used across their client base. It is not always intuitive how to change the settings on the interface. The email alerts are absolutely amazing - they provide real-time updates on markets, economic data, and politics. It's very useful as it is consolidated and sent right to your inbox. You can select which updates, alerts, etc you want in the Preferences section. I also like the Portfolio Monitor, where you can upload a portfolio into the system and monitor it over time. This functionality provides real-time data on how that portfolio is performing. The options charts are very useful as well - options are complicated as they are, but Factset makes it very straightforward with a simple user interface. Additionally, the order book is updated and real-time as well, you can see trades, volumes, and various other price metrics. **What do you dislike about FactSet Workstation?** Sometimes, the system can be cumbersome due to it's wide functionalities, but overall - straightforward after a few uses, you just need to get used to it. Factset provides tutorials and help/guidance for newer users. **What problems is FactSet Workstation solving and how is that benefiting you?** Investment research, market alerts, and portfolio management. Research into individual equities, ETFs and other investment vehicles. Also benefits for consolidating various news outlets and market data into email alerts. Screening capabilities are excellent with Factset, customizable criteria available. For discretionary equity portfolios, it's great to make a custom earnings calendar and find out when earning calls are, price momentum going forward into earnings season, and past history of earnings/earnings expectations/earnings beats and misses. ### 24. It can be overwhelming how much there is and it’s not every intuitive. I also like the calendar tab, because it helps me organize my week for the different calls that I want to listen in. **What do you dislike about FactSet Workstation?** I believe FactSet has a new page layout coming out, and I have had the chance to look at it. Maybe it is because I am used to the old page, but I don't necessarily love the new layout. It also seems to run a bit slower, but that may be because it is in the testing phases. The application is very rapid and reliable and despite multiple navigations and workflows during use, it rarely ceases to work or "freeze". I also like that attaching and removing data is extremely simple. **What do you dislike about FactSet Workstation?** I do not like that only one window of Fact Set is to be used at a time. You can only dig so deep when looking at aspects of the financial statements and I typically resort to other tools. **Recommendations to others considering FactSet Workstation:** Good for qualitative research but will only get you so far on the quantitative side. **What problems is FactSet Workstation solving and how is that benefiting you?** Provides a one stop shop for getting analyst coverage information. ### 33. Whether you need basic charting, financial statements, ratio analysis, comparable valuation, estimates, sell-side research, Factset provides it. (so do Eikon and Bloomberg). Unlike Eikon (which I used previously), Factset was built ground up with the analyst in mind. Data is generally well organized. You can tell the product managers *thought* about where to put stuff. This contrasts strongly vs Eikon which is a blatant Bloomberg rip off. Factset offers desktop client, web client, and a mobile app. I mostly use the desktop client and mobile app. The mobile app is competent but could certainly be better. **What do you dislike about FactSet Workstation?** There are no gaping holes in Factset functionality. At least not for the use cases I need. However, what frustrates me is the product is good.... but it could be great. Take, for example, access to earnings conference calls on the mobile app. To me, it's a no-brainer to make this a simple, seamless user experience. What's better than being able to quickly tune into an earnings call on the go? In the Factset app, there is a way to stream earnings calls, but it's hidden behind about 6 clicks, AND once you're there, you can't use any other functions of the app. It's just the call, nothing else. Also, the mobile app is pretty slow. Factset should look at Scout Finance mobile app for ideas how to make the app simpler and faster. I give the mobile app a C+... good enough, but has potential to be great. **Recommendations to others considering FactSet Workstation:** Do your own work. Check out Eikon, CapitalIQ, Bloomberg. Pound for pound, Factset is an excellent product. Still room for improvement, but it covers the basics better than Eikon or CapIQ. **What problems is FactSet Workstation solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Factset for many aspects of my job as a securities analyst. Factset is a great aggregator of data, and for the most part the user experience is above average. Compared to Eikon, I've realized the benefits of a more intuitive UI (in most cases, definitely not all). Also, I've found Factset to be a more stable application vs Eikon. Most importantly, Factset saves me time vs Eikon. ### 35.
