We've already had an incident where we used that and it saved us a ton of time. The overview of backup jobs is crisp clear and for the first time in a long while I am actually looking forward to my next visit from the auditors. **What do you dislike about Eon Data Protection?** I don't dislike anything really. If I pull the magnifying glass up, this comes to mind: The job lists and tables are information-dense when you have a lot of stuff to back up, and scanning them for specific groups takes slight effort. The tooling and filters are there and work well, so read this as a maturity issue that I expect them to improve. The architecture involves processing a copy of your data in an Eon-managed account. That's a smart and a very defensible way but it adds a small assessment burden regarding third-party risk and data residency that regulated buyers should have in mind - still keeping in mind that you are going to do a very thorough assessment of your backup solution provider anyway. **What problems is Eon Data Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** Eon solves three things for us: Coverage visibility ("is this asset protected, with the right retention?") is no longer a manual reconciliation exercise. Classification of what's actually inside our backups Granular recovery: querying a backup at a point in time and pulling back a single table or record. The real benefit is that recovery is now verifiable rather than assumed. Queryable backups mean restore points can be validated continuously, not just at an annual exercise. A much stronger answer when an auditor asks how we know our backups work. ### 2. The scheduling is straightforward, and the visibility into the backup history is also nicely implemented. **What do you dislike about Eon Data Protection?** Because of our internal policies, we sometimes need backups in a different format than Eon’s. Right now, that means we have to restore from Eon first and then create a new backup from that restored data. It’s an extra step, and it would be nice if we didn’t have to do it. **What problems is Eon Data Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** The logical air gapping between accounts makes it straightforward for us to meet our compliance requirements. Also, it’s very easy to retrieve the state of our data exactly as it was on any date in the past. Takes minutes instead of hours. ### 3. Its seamless integration with AWS resources is a major advantage. **What do you dislike about Eon Data Protection?** One major issue related to PostrgeSQL DBs in RDS/Aurora is that Eon backups do not preserve any of the user and passwords contained in the database. Obviously, this is a disadvantage over snapshots taken in RDS natively. Easy to use. There are no complicated UI/UX elements, so its understandable and easy to configure.
