Very user friendly. Unlike most other programs where you are forced to use the old provided by the program, you can actually mold Powerproject to work for you. There are many ways to complete the same task which is both a blessing and a curse. It's very customizable, and you can arrange columns in an order that makes sence for you. Most of the data in the columns can be set to different formats also contributing to the user friendliness for powerproject. **What do you dislike about Asta?** Adding a task breaks links between tasks. There are almost too many ways to do thins which can make the program overwhelming at first, but once you get sued to it, that becomes a great feature. It allows the user to find a groove that works for them and use it. It can be difficult to see all the information on a screen sometimes, but i think this is pretty well par for the course with most scheduling software. **Recommendations to others considering Asta:** Powerproject is a great scheduling software and required for many State projects. The online portion of the software makes it easy for your project managers to advance the progress of a project with out having a full knowledge of how the overall program works. Can be overwhelming at first, so investing in a good initial training will be invaluable. On the flipside to that, I had the program almost completely figured out before even going to my first training, so it is possible for those of you that prefer to figure it out yourself. **What problems is Asta solving and how is that benefiting you?** Too many benefits to name. This is the first scheduling software I have been able to accomplish everything I want to. From eh ease of creating baselines to the ability to link tasks and durations by simply clicking and drawing arrows, to the ease of finding the critical path. All good stuff. ### 3. It’s easy to tailor the information and the display to client or internal requirements. **What do you dislike about Asta?** There are certain parts of Powerproject that are very unwieldy. For example, when you want to create or edit custom columns of information in the spreadsheet, you need to save the file each time before each edit can be made. It can be OTT for small projects. **Recommendations to others considering Asta:** Perfect for projects that are £250k+ in value; or lots of smaller projects that have a fixed workforce that needs sequencing. **What problems is Asta solving and how is that benefiting you?** People that are historically very resistant to trying new software or programming tools will find this software very easy for basic planning tasks with minimal tuition. It’s easy to roll this out to people that have not used it before as long as advanced user skills are not required. ### 6. My ‘Gut’ feeling with Powerproject is that it has always been considered as old school and limited to construction contractor preference? **What problems is Asta solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am not currently using the software and it is a number of years since I have. ### 7. Also, the option to save layouts and export them to other users would be useful. **What problems is Asta solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm not solving any problems as such however Asta benefits include a wide range of visual aspects that are far greater than P6 and assist the project team when viewing programmes. ### 9. As you become familiar with the software it is easy to produce reports and extract filtered information to make it easy for relevant trades to see there relevant work streams. **What problems is Asta solving and how is that benefiting you?** Resource problems. Activities and trades that are over resourced in the project plan. The software easily allows you to demonstrate this to management visually via the numerous histogram views. ### 10. The flexibility within the software allows the user to building a schedule based on the projects complexity, and the user controls how detailed they want to be, or how much data they want to input. If you want to stay simple, you can stay simple. If you want to be detailed, you can be detailed. **What do you dislike about Asta?** Some of the point and click scheduling can be very difficult and tedious if you have a complex schedule. A lot of the tools in Asta are so common sense and efficient so it's difficult when you do run into an issue, or try something that in theory should be easy to do. **Recommendations to others considering Asta:** If you are used to other scheduling softwares like SureTrak or Microsoft Project, you will be able to jump right into Asta and will notice a lot of similarities. What's nice about Asta is the simple point and click for linking schedule items, ease of adding/modifying line items, and just the general interface of the software. I'd recommend Asta for small to mid size construction projects. **What problems is Asta solving and how is that benefiting you?** Asta is a tool that we can use at all levels to schedule projects, update clients, forecast manpower, track efficiencies and more. All types of skill levels are able to jump onto the software and process data and the output is easy to read and understand. ### 16. We've been looking at it and comparing it to some of its competitors. It's definitely a step above. My end users are giving it rave reviews and so far they like it much better than p6. It's becoming more popular. **What do you dislike about Asta?** Since we are a construction company, we need to be able to collaborate in remote locations. That is a challenge we are currently addressing. Not just for Asta but for a number of applications that we use. **What problems is Asta solving and how is that benefiting you?** We really need a replacement for P6. P6 is very difficult to work with.
