Being able to have one place for secrets management and have it sync to different platforms (Github, Google Cloud, AWS) as well as sync down for individual developers to use for local development removes many of the pain points of working with secrets. **What do you dislike about Doppler secrets management platform?** I wish there was more granular access I could give developers, giving them access to update their own copy of the development environment variables without letting them modify other developers or the master development block would vastly simplify secrets management for developers. **Recommendations to others considering Doppler secrets management platform:** Don't half-opt into doppler, it is much easier to use if everyone on your dev team is using it. **What problems is Doppler secrets management platform solving and how is that benefiting you?** The big thing is this eliminates the need to manage secrets in multiple places, which almost always leads to leaking secrets, there is 0 need to keep any secrets even development or testing secrets in our local machines or codebases, this is much more secure while still being super easy to manage. However, we had no problem gaining 90% of the value and truthfully haven't needed to explore the vast array of other features they provide. Copying/pasting/searching for keys across different environments could be improved. We use it locally, in K8s, across AWS (mostly via SSM integration), and have started using it with GitHub Actions for builds. **What do you dislike about Doppler secrets management platform?** The one "missing" feature is peer review. I say "missing" only in that the hand-rolled solution I migrated us from into Doppler was git + ejson based, and all configuration changes came by-way-of pull request which helped catch silly mistakes. **Recommendations to others considering Doppler secrets management platform:** For sharing secrets to local development, Doppler is second to none and has been a godsend. For integrating with deployed environments, Doppler has a LOT going for it to help you integrate it (number of pre-canned integrations and documentation otherwise, decent web-based management UI), but may involve changing your process to account for secrets and env vars being managed outside of the typical SDLC. Would love a better way to handle permissions around modifying secrets, but these are things the team is actively working on.
