We’ve been using Documentero for our company inventory reports and it’s been a huge time saver. We generate both Excel and PDF reports, and everything looks clean and professional every time.

What we really like are the advanced template capabilities — we can build smart Excel templates with formulas and structured layouts, and Documentero fills everything automatically, even long inventory lists that change in size.

If I had to point out one limitation, it’s that you currently can’t switch between online templates and uploaded (.docx/.xlsx) templates within the same workflow. Once you choose one approach, you’re basically committed to it.

I had a simple goal but was unable to find a source--until I stumbled on Documentero. Our firm uses it for repeat documents that have many of the same recurring portions but also different clauses. For example, for our engagement agreements, many of the sections are the same but there are also a lot of variables depending on type of representation. I have a simple form accessible to anyone in the firm on a private page of our website where in a matter of minutes, we can input client-specific information and check-boxes to select what clauses should be included. Each answer leads to its own branch of follow-up questions. I can include instructions and required fields. When you are finished filling out the form, you click the button, and you download the Word document on our letterhead. Then you make any additional edits you want.

It was not difficult to figure out how to prepare and set up the website form. One of the most attractive parts to me is that I upload the Word document in the form I want it--the fonts, the spacing, the logos, etc. And Documentero basically fills in that Word document with the various clauses I have indicated are necessary and gives it back to me in a Word document--or I can have it done in a PDF if I know I won't have any edits. The result is exactly what you would have if you went through the process of using a template or duplicating a document to prepare the letter--except it takes a tiny fraction of the time, and you don't miss anything because you have to check boxes to include or exclude possibly relevant provisions.

And the customer service is amazing. We have been using the free version (I'm about to upgrade as we are implementing more use in different forms), but the few times I have needed help, someone has responded to me almost immediately and advised me how to proceed. I have never seen a free product be so useful and have such good customer service.

I don't think there are any downsides. As with anything, there is a learning curve to get the document uploaded and the fields properly marked in your form document so the result is exactly what you want. Creating documents based on Word documents is incredibly variable and dynamic. Combined with n8n automations (Documentero has its own community nodes), for example, this offers remarkable scaling possibilities. We have simplified and automated all processes related to document creation in our agency with Documentero. Documentero is not a “digital signature” service, nor does it ever want to be. If you want to create PDF documents quickly, easily, in an organized manner, and, above all, automatically via API, then Documentero is the perfect tool for the job. I hope Documentero will be around forever, as the processes in our agency are so deeply rooted in it.

I’ve been using Documentero for a while now, and it has quickly become one of those tools I can’t imagine working without. I use it in 3-4 workflows in my company and in apps i create for my clients and some of them generate 200-300 documents a month without any problem. I've used it within N8N workflows, Retool app and Laravel app. Sometimes i even use built-in forms to create very fast PoC showing client how it can help with document creation.

What impressed me most is how seamlessly it integrates into existing workflows. Instead of wasting time on repetitive tasks, I can now generate perfectly formatted documents automatically, directly from built-in forms or through the API.

As a developer, I especially appreciate how clean and straightforward the API is. The setup took minutes, not hours, and the flexibility it gives me in building custom automations is incredibly powerful. At the same time, it’s not only developer‑friendly – my clients and non‑technical partners can also work with Documentero templates without needing any special skills. That balance between power and accessibility is rare.

The template system is another big win. Updating or creating new templates is simple, and the generated files look professional every single time. No formatting headaches, no manual copy‑paste work – just reliable automation that actually saves hours each week.

Documentero genuinely changed the way I handle document generation. It’s reliable, flexible, and developer‑minded, while still being approachable for non‑tech users. If your business deals with recurring documents of any kind, I can’t recommend it enough.

Honestly nothing major - would love to see even more native integrations in future updates. Right now, they offer API, Make, Zapier and even Webflow and Bubble.io plugins.
