"DbGate: One Consistent, Free Database Client Across Many Engines"
4.5/5
What do you like best about DbGate?

I use DbGate on macOS, and its biggest benefit is giving me one consistent interface for all the different database systems I work with. Instead of switching between several database-specific clients, I can manage connections, browse schemas and data, edit records, and run queries from the same application. It makes moving between projects much easier.

The free Community edition is also a major plus. It is genuinely free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license, rather than being a short trial or a heavily restricted viewer. The Community version supports widely used databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, SQLite, DuckDB, ClickHouse, and others. There are paid editions for additional connectors and team features, but the Community edition provides a useful database client on its own.

DbGate fits well with some of the other tools and infrastructure I use. It supports SSH tunneling, which is useful when connecting to PostgreSQL and other databases that are not exposed publicly. It can also run as a web application in Docker, so it could be self-hosted on a server such as Unraid instead of being limited to the desktop application. I have not personally used the Docker deployment, but I appreciate having that option. Support for importing and exporting CSV, Excel, JSON, XML, and other common formats also makes it easier to move data between DbGate and other tools.

The interface is straightforward and remains reasonably consistent even when the underlying databases are different. Features such as SQL completion, schema browsing, editable data grids, ER diagrams, and database structure comparison are all available from one place.

I have only used the Mac version, so I cannot personally review the Windows, Linux, or browser-based versions. Still, the cross-platform availability makes DbGate easier to recommend and means I would not need to adopt a different database client if my environment changed.

For me, DbGate’s value comes down to consolidation. It is the first application I open when I need to interact with a database, regardless of which database technology the project uses, and the capable free Community edition makes it easy to get started. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DbGate?

The main area I would like to see improved is clarity around the different editions. DbGate now has Community, Premium, Team, Cloud, desktop, and web-based options, and it is not always immediately obvious which features or database connectors are included in each one. Clearer labels in the application and a simple, up-to-date comparison would make it easier to understand when a feature is part of the free Community edition and when it requires an upgrade.

DbGate’s broad database support is its greatest strength, but that breadth also makes consistency important. Some database engines naturally have more specialized administrative, monitoring, backup, or schema-management capabilities than others. Continuing to improve feature parity across connectors would help DbGate replace dedicated, database-specific tools more completely. I have not used every connector or platform, so I would describe these as areas where I would like to see continued development rather than problems I have personally encountered. "Centralize and Optimize Database Management"
5/5
What do you like best about DbGate?

I like that I can manage multiple MySQL databases in a single interface, connecting to all servers at the same time without needing to use different tools. Editing records directly in the table view makes daily work much more agile. I also appreciate the organization of tables, views, and grouped functions, which helps make searching faster. The initial setup was straightforward, although it took me time to review the options to better adjust them to my particular case. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DbGate?

Upon updating to version 7.2.3, I noticed that the "relationship suggestions" feature (which displayed gray text next to the ID of a foreign key reference) is no longer available because it is exclusive to the premium version. This is a feature I use a lot to quickly identify related records without having to manually perform a JOIN. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Lightweight Interface with Comprehensive Database Management"
5/5
What do you like best about DbGate?

I like using DbGate because it makes managing databases easy for me. I appreciate its lightweight and easy user experience that doesn't require a tutorial. It saves me time when troubleshooting live databases and allows me to quickly explore table relationships. I love that it combines SQL, NoSQL, and Redis into one workspace, which simplifies my workflow by not needing different studios for different databases. I also value the integrated ERD feature. Customizing the keys speeds up my work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DbGate?

The UI could be more polished in some areas, and a few advanced features being limited to Premium can feel restrictive for individual developers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"DbGate: powerful, flexible, and easy for managing multiple databases"
5/5
What do you like best about DbGate?

I was testing DbGate and honestly, it surprised me quite a bit. It's a very comprehensive tool for managing databases, especially if you work with different engines (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.). The interface is quite clear and doesn't feel heavy like other alternatives, which is already a strong point.

Something I really liked is that you can work both with SQL queries and with a graphical interface, so it works whether you like to go straight to the query or prefer something more visual. It also has good options for exporting data, editing tables, and even generating diagrams, which makes daily work much easier.

As for performance, it behaves well even with large databases, and I didn't have any connection problems or weird issues. Additionally, being open source, it scores points because there are always improvements and a community behind it.

In summary, it's a very good option if you're looking for a free, powerful, and quite flexible tool to manage databases without too much hassle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DbGate?

It could have drag and drop cascading windows, but this is what I dislike about their UI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"DbGate: Easy Setup, Essential for Database Management"
5/5
What do you like best about DbGate?

I've been using DbGate for 6 years now, and it has become my go-to tool for inspecting MySQL, Postgres, and SQLite databases. I was happy to see more connectors like DuckDB. I LOVE the SSH tunnel access, as I can easily access my production environment in read-only or write mode with a proper color system. I manage my access via the folder group. From time to time, showing some of my colleagues a view of the database with the auto diagram is useful. I love that it's one central point to connect to multiple databases, meaning I don't have to install other tools. It's close to what I liked in MySQL Browser, but when Postgres became part of my workflow, I moved everything to DbGate years ago, and I don't regret it! I find it super easy to install and use. What do you dislike about DbGate?

I was sad to see that the MongoDB connector is behind a license, and as an open source developer, I sometimes use MongoDB, but this has not been enough to justify a license. This is really missing in the open source world. MongoDB support as open source, the world is missing a good connector. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about DbGate?

I really like the speed of DbGate, its modern and user-friendly environment, and the way databases are managed without the need to navigate through many windows or options. I find it fast and easy, especially when writing code and reviewing T-SQL queries in Microsoft SQL Server. I also appreciate the quick and easy autocomplete, and the convenience it offers when analyzing the logic and codes that go into production. Additionally, the installation was very simple and quick on both Arch Linux and Windows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
