In addition to this, it allows me to access the different courses that I have registered, it shows me the material, the pending activities and the expiration dates. Therefore, it also sends me notifications or reminders of important events such as evaluations, meetings or pending tasks. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** It has different chances of better in terms of reviewing comments or evaluations of the jobs that are uploaded. The above, because I have wanted to access the feedbacks of the works that I have uploaded but it is confusing the way to identify the right route to do it. But in general, I like the whole platform, I have not had many problems, or those that I have had have been solved effectively and on time. Perhaps one thing that I dislike is that I cannot configure what kind of "advertising" or links appear on the right side. Many times it shows me information that is not relevant to me and it would be interesting to configure these spaces. **Recommendations to others considering D2L Brightspace:** Make a first mapping on the characteristics of the platform. Observe the menus, routes, sections, etc. Then, identify the options that will be most frequent in your day to day to be clear about the routes and ways of accessing the platform. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problem that it allows me to solve is the interaction with the teacher and different students. The benefits I have had have been to review material uploaded by the teacher and access activities such as quizzes, workshops, or exams. Another problem that helps me solve is the reminder of pending shipments, such as workshops, meetings, evaluations, and others, for which I have no excuse for missing these responsibilities. ### 2. Also, it is a bit jarring for our subject matter experts to see the instructor's view and not understand that the student's view is much different. It is rare that we are totally unable to find a solution to something that our faculty is looking for. The tools available are appropriate and there is plenty of flexibility to integrate other items and products. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** Some of the features in Brightspace are present but not quite ready for primetime. While it is nice to get access to a tool that doesn't have all features for it built yet, it can be an issue when we adopt something new and then it changes shortly after. **Recommendations to others considering D2L Brightspace:** Brightspace is a fantastic platform. There are thousands of permissions that cane be combined with hundreds of configuration variables to provide a highly customizable experience. I also like the language management feature since it allows us to use our own organizational terms to explain various key features. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** The licensing creates a world of haves and have nots, and the best and most expensive institutions can afford the best features. In contrast, the schools with the least capital end up not being able to serve the neediest students with the best tools since we cannot afford everything. **Recommendations to others considering D2L Brightspace:** Before you decide on a competitor, make sure that you ask your best faculty to actually teach a course with D2L Brightspace and any other LMS. I also like that the tool can be filtered to display all messages or only messages related to the course/org unit you're viewing. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** Selecting recipients proves to be confusing for a lot of users. The need to select the "to", "cc", or "bcc" option before the recipients are added is almost always a missed step. And when it is missed, there is no error message to let the user know what was missed. They just get frustrated because "nothing happens". Maybe it should be a "next" screen to select the field or at a minimum, display an error message so that the user knows they have to select one of the 3 options in order to add the recipients. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** With the integrated mail tool, instructors don't have to "look up" email addresses or worry about messages filtering to a spam folder. Besides the grade book section, it's not very complicated at all. Most of the tools are straightforward and very useful. If you have any problems with the tools, the D2L youtube page has tons of tutorials to help! My personal favorite part would have to be all the ways I can personalize the courses for instructors. Changing the overall look/feel of a course based off if the course is art or science really helps give the students the feel that they are in the right place. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** The grade book section would probably be what I dislike the most. It doesn't seem very easy, and there are a ton of grading strategies instructors want to use but cannot figure out how to complete it. I understand the grade book section should probably be the most complicated feature but I wish it was more user friendly. Even as an administrator, I have issues navigating the grade book at times. **Recommendations to others considering D2L Brightspace:** Of course, every LMS system will have some minor flaws. Knowing the weaknesses of D2L, I would still highly recommend this learning system to other users. The bright spots by far outshine the flaws. Whether you are using this for education or using this for training, D2L allows you to mold the environment to something that best fits you. D2L is allowing us to make sure students still receive the complete educations they deserve. Our students love being able to keep tabs on their grades when their instructors use the grades tool, too. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** Using an LMS is a significant culture change for instructors who are uncomfortable with using technology. Therefore, it was harder to convince such individuals to adopt it. It was intimidating to them, and they did require a lot of extra one-on-one instruction time. We recently implemented chat support for our students, which has helped decrease the number of support calls received by our department. In my short three years with Brightspace, they have gone above and beyond to make our institution feel valued as a customer through support and even unique gifts. I especially appreciated the care packages sent during the middle of COVID to show appreciation for customers. Products all came from small, local businesses. This thoughtful gesture not only helped customers, but I'm sure also helped these businesses during such a difficult time. It's fantastic to see large companies contributing with small acts of kindness like this. Brightspace also offers the best product on the market. The features are incredibly user-friendly for both faculty and students. I like the layout and structure of their platform. I am thrilled Brightspace implemented the quick grading feature but also like their traditional grading options. I find it hard to generate grading reports. Additionally, copying content from other courses is not intuitive. I have two sections of the same class, and copying content between them takes too much time. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** I was able to structure the coursework through Brightspace. I think it is easier to understand, review and follow than with other platforms. Students access the class site, start by browsing the content for the current week, read the material, watch the videos and do the assignments. It is more organized and accessible for me, I had to struggle with other tools to achieve similar results. ### 49. With D2L's experience and skill, they should be able to better address this. Example: always offer a simple default setup for Assignment, Quiz ... etc, so that users that don't need that may settings, they can just grab the ready-made most commonly used settings and be productive. Discussion Forum function is the least preferred function for many years. The reporting functions are also behind others. Admin reports are poor. Insights revamp had huge delays and harder to use, SSA need training to get some basic stuff done, all these don't meet non-technical administrator's needs. They need to partner IT expert to get things done which is not ideal. Every Instructor and Student should have a good dashboard to start their day. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** Brightspace is our main LMS to do course delivery for Undergraduate and Postgraduate.
