The first, is i would live to see native backups of Synology and Qnap NAS devices. The biggest point we enjoyed was the different take on the storage problem. Who else out there has tried to manage cloud based backups and on charging to customers. For us it's simple, our customers pay a rate, and the storage is no longer an equation, just ensuring retention, short and long term meets the requirements. Easy to setup, use and restore. I think their biggest claim to fame for me is the O365 backup. I've used two other solutions which were both cumbersome to setup and use. When we onboard a new customer, we've got O365 backup working in 5 minutes. I also like the endpoint backup. I actually had to do a bare metal restore and it worked flawlessly. Honestly, I could not believe it. I dove into the restore without reading any docs. I hit a couple of bumps, read the applicable KBs and poof - I had an exact copy of my back up on dissimilar hardware. I don’t even know if the dissimilar part is supported - but I can tell you it worked. **What do you dislike about Cove Data Protection?** No gripes about Cove. My only challenge with N-able is billing. They are getting better though. I need more reporting from their billing portal. **What problems is Cove Data Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** #1 - M365 Backup. #2 Endpoint backup. 1. When we tell customers that thier O365 data is backed up for 7 years, the reaction is always - oh wow, that's great! 2. It's pretty cool to be able to get a CEO up and running on a new machine after his failed in just a couple hours. I didn't even mention file level restores becasue a backup should be able to do that without question and of course that is a benefit. I prefer to mention the things that are typically a challenge with backup vendors. ### 23. With continous restore options, you can even have a VM that is restored whenever a backup is taken. It was easy to restore a physical system to a VM. With a Local Speed Vault encrypted cache, restores can be much quicker than pulling down all data from the cloud. **What do you dislike about Cove Data Protection?** The passphrase and security key have different names in different places. When selecting a point-in-time restore, the selection screens change (just be careful to double check before you start.) I'm not a huge fan of the restore-to creating the directory structure starting with the source drive letter. **What problems is Cove Data Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** Having offsite backups with restore point in time capability allowed me to recover from a ransomware attack. You can utilize the dashboard to quickly determine if backups have run and whether they completed successfully. We like that there are no limitations imposed by the program as to the size or number of the data source. Backups run very efficiently, typically much faster than competitive products, are encrypted in flight and at rest, and can be scheduled based on our client's requirements. Both laptops, desktops, servers, and cloud based storage can be backed up. You can event run backups to an external data center where the original workstation or server could be booted up and run from there. Monitoring and testing has never been quicker and easier. I am saving a ton of time since moving to this solution. Not only is it rare to have a failed backup in the first place, but when there is an issue, its easy to track and resolve with a plain english error messages and easy access to support. **What do you dislike about Cove Data Protection?** I havent found a feature yet that I could not accomplish with Cove. The downside is that there are often additional tools that must be installed in order to access these features, which people are not always aware of. Granular restores are not great if you are backing up a VM and want just some data from it. The virtual drive tool is supposed to allow you to browse into the VM but I find it does not work well. I tend to backup my VM files in addition to the full VM backup which has me using twice the space that I should be. I do this just for the peace of mind that I have easy access to the restores I need. I wish the granulat restores were more robust out of the box, and not an after thought/add-on. **What problems is Cove Data Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest problem Cove solves for me is time management. With previous backup solutions, monitoing and mainintaining all jobs took a very long time, and we had very regular failures/errors. With Cove, the backups are much more stable, and the monitoring is very well organized so that you can review reports and testing in no time. ### 31. It has the best of image-based backups without all the problems. It is super reliable, flexible and easy to set up. Its a great product to build your disaster plan around. The ability to use the Recovery Console or automatic recovery testing to have a virtual machine ready to spin up in case of emergency is the best feature. If there are errors, there is documentation and error codes that make sense to fix the issue. One of the best hidden features we use is the restore image to hypervisor. This has fixed more than a handful of systems we were trying to P2V that didn't work, but we restored the image to a Hyper-V server, verified all data was there and OS booted and then marked it as the live system. The Dashboard layout provides a great overview of the last 28 days of backup jobs, using a colour-coded timeline to provide a quick view of history. The backup software is fairly straightforward to implement, and its compatibility with legacy operating systems mean it can act as a backup for those systems where other backup platforms have left certain operating systems behind. Its direct integration with N-central also make Cove an interesting choice for users of that system, providing access to backups directly from the RMM. **What do you dislike about Cove Data Protection?** There are sometimes interface glitches on certain panels with in the Cove web portal (such as on the Device Properties screen), and some errors aren't always immediately easy to interpret. The Backup Client portal can seem a little basic, and the ability to set a specific time for backup reports to be sent by email is not available. **What problems is Cove Data Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have certain servers that are on Operating Systems that are no longer supported by many other providers - Cove allows is to back up those servers. ### 46.
