"Couchbase Server delivers on the promise of rapid microservice development in the cloud"

What do you like best?

Couchbase Server makes continuous delivery of microservices in the cloud very easy with its schemaless approach to JSON data. For most cases, it's as simple as just deploying a new microservice version, no DDL changes required at all prior to deployment. We're also very excited about the forthcoming scopes/collections feature and how that may help us more easily ensure data separation between microservices.

Couchbase's memory-first architecture flat cluster topology also deliver on performance, especially for transactional data with significant mutation rates.

The N1QL query language is great to work with because it's so SQL-like, and much easier for developers to learn and reason about than other NoSQL platforms while also being more feature-rich.

On the IT operations side, managing the cluster itself is made incredibly easy using Couchbase Cloud or the Autonomous Operator for Kubernetes. The architecture itself also makes things easier, with auto sharding and no need to configure read-replicas. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The full-text search system is great for small-scale operations, but is still a somewhat young product offering. In some cases, use of a separate system like Elasticsearch is warranted. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

When implementing a Couchbase Server proof-of-concept, the learning curve can be slightly steep compared to more traditional RDBMS systems. However, the curve is typically less steep with Couchbase than with other NoSQL platforms. There is a great community online on their forums and Gitter that can help with any questions during a proof-of-concept phase. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Couchbase has allowed us to operate at scale with low-to-zero downtime for maintenance in a continuous delivery microservices architecture. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"It is one of the best NoSQL solutions I have ever worked with!"

What do you like best?

Easy manage big amount of data, fast, compatible with a big quantity of legacy applications and very simple to work with.

Great both vertical and horizontal scaling.

N1QL is SQL based - very simple and intuitive.

Data storage in JSON.

High availability.

Data and traffic encryption.

Couchbase Mobile is a great stuff. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Some issues on clustering and data replication - it hasn't full coherence between clusters.

Dashboard is not very user friendly, as for me. It is sometimes slow and difficult to work with it for newbies, not intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

You have to try Couchbase out and I am sure that it will meet your requirements and solve your problems.

It is easy to use, easy to implement and easy to manage. And despite these, it is reliable and secure.

Also, make sure that you aware of all features to have maximum of benefits and pleasure from using Couchbase. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"I have worked with Couchbase extensively for several projects as a primary Database."

What do you like best?

Analytics Engine, Query Indexing,Full text search, Scalability, Reliability, Faster development, easy deployment, cluster management, Easy migration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Bucket Limitation per cluster. Slow for large datasets. Memory expensive Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I would say to spend more time with the data modeling techniques because even if couchbase is serving good amount of services but if the data model is not efficient enough then using couchbase can be a overkill for small startup projects as its moderately cost and cpu expensive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are developing a social networking site and for that we are using couchbase to be performed as an entity database along with Neo4j which is responsible for handling our graph services. As a social networking site we have to index so many different entity type along with the queries for each entities which was a very helpful as we were not getting an efficient query indexing engine along with any other dbms thats number one and the couchbase analytics engine made our task easier to monitor and analyze database cluster. "Using couchbase in e-commerce inventory management system"

What do you like best?

I used couchbase to store and retrieve inventory related data for an e-commerce website.

Couchbase provides a robust SDK for multi platform integration. All we did was to build a wrapper layer around it and integrated with our inventory API. Ease of use and solid documentation played a vital part in the success of the integration.

I also liked their dashboard where a lot of server health related metrics were updated in realtime. I also liked the ability to search and view the stored documents from the dashboard. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Documents search feature can be improved like adding advanced search options which can improve the entire search user experience Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We used couchbase to improve the overall user experience in the e-commerce website by maintaining inventory data. Couchbase was much faster and was able to handle a lot of load than a traditional relational SQL database which was a huge benefit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The query service for interacting with db is so powerful and awesome. Multiple Views can be created for your needs. Various indexes can be created to make querying fast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There is a scope for improvement in time taken for node rebalancing and syncing. Time taken for indexes can be reduced. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have used couchbase to store travel related data in documents which can be indexed and various views can be created. It supports multi threading like a charm. Created various views and used map reduce to suit my needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"One Platform to Rule Them All"

What do you like best?

I am using Couchbase as the main database of my current project. But great thing is that when it comes to storing temporary or using cache-based database, I don't have to use another solution, Couchbase have already the memcached solution. Using the memcache style buckets provided by Couchbase was much more efficient and flexible than memcached.

Another amazing feature which I get is, I don't need to store data in another storage for implementing elastic sesrch. which is very convenient for the development purposes. It also has some languages support which exactly I needed for the Full Text Search implementation.

The cross data center replication allows me to keep the system running all the time by configuring replication and data is always available.

I didn't need to learn another quey language, cause the N1QL is so much like MySQL and PostgreSQL which were my previous skills.

Making Ad-hoc queries using the analytics service was very flexible, specially as it is possible to run on separate nodes in a cluster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Basically there is nothing I dislike about Couchbase. But for the first time it was hard for me to setup channel filter. But its easier now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

When you can get the sweet taste of NoSQL in accordance with Full-Text Search and Memcached in one place, definitely Couchbase is your hero.

Ensuring data integrity and availability with the XDCR, things are awesome and smooth.

When you are an enterprise user of Couchbase, you will have great support from the team starting from before purchasing the enterprise solution.

One important thing, take the free and/or paid tutorial provided by Couchbase which is helpful while designing the system and data structure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am using extensively Couchbase buckets for storing and reading geo spatial data which is the main feature of the system I am developing. And I can use the geo spatial queries provided by the Couchbase.

Also, I didn't have to use the Elastic sesrch and store data again there. I just used the already-there FTS aka Full Text Search feature in Couchbase.

I didn't have to use Redis because Couchbase is giving me plain-old-memcached mode, which is awesome!

When it was about deployment, process was easier and I had help from the Couchbase support team, a great relief. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Cool Tool"

What do you like best?

I really love the N1QL module, which allows you to use SQL like syntax to work with documents. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Can't say I dislike it, but I'd like for better docker support, since right now it's a bit difficult to automate the setup of a docker container. I'd also like to see an in memory version of couchbase to use for testing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used couchbase for geolocation queries as well as a standard database. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Using a db also depends on usecase to be satisfied.. Couchbase is best for nosql, massive data mngt."

What do you like best?

I discovered how fast and efficient couchbase is when we used indexing for query efficiency. And the result was brilliant..The query performance drastically bettered when the bucket had massive records. Native queries and stringified queries are easy to be created as syntax is much like mysql.. Couchbase UI makes it very flexible to work and handle with buckets. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Until now the only con I discovered is the tutorials are very few on internet regarding native and stringified queries or for couchbase concepts in deep.. The documentation explains the concepts quite well..but does not have enough examples and we need to go through it more than once to understand it all. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It's best if usecase is for nosql, when data to be managed is massive and when you have good machine which can handle couchbase efficiently. My experience is based on using couchbase locally in non prod. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using couchbase as main db to store all the data across the application.

The resiliency of couchbase is great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Getting value by key is VERY fast! Also, the couchbase server scales very easy and very successfully horizontally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The N1Ql queries is something useless, in my opinion. They are very slow! I've used couchbase in a very big project with many concurrent requests and I noticed that at some point when you make lots of requests with n1ql, the couchbase server restarts, even though they were nothing performant... only selecting document by key.
