## Contabo Reviews
 ### 1. Affordable Hosting with Customization Freedom, Needs Better Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Felix M. | DevOps Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

I like the fact that with Contabo, I have got control. I can install whatever software that I want to install, and I can manage everything. It has private servers that are very flexible, and I can customize and scale based on how much processing power and resources I need without having to engage anybody.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

The most annoying thing about Contabo is their support. Whenever you log a ticket, you get a response after two to three days, which is not good for people running a business. They don't have a live platform. Once, my servers were not provisioned, and it took two days to get them provisioned, which was not good. I lost clients because of that. I really wish they would improve their support and minimize their downtimes.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contabo solves cost problems by allowing me to host many websites at a fixed cost, providing control over my servers without needing extra software. I appreciate the customization and scalability of their private servers for processing power.

 ### 2. Unreliable Backups, Constant VPS Issues, and Slow Support

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Grigor B. | Founder, Telecommunications, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

Cheaper compared to resources offered. Although they keep increasing prices or cutting resources for the same-price offers

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

Horrible support, takes days, never rely on their support to answer or be able to help.
Constant issues either with VPS, or disk. Paid backup almost never works, thus you pay for a service that basically doesn't work and no one refunds you or apologizes when your data is lost because of faulty paid add-on feature.
UI is old and poor.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Relatively cheap VPS compared to the resources offered.

 ### 3. Disappointing Support and Account Management Issues

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lediona L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

The yearly pricing for Contabo can be okay.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

Contabo deleted my account after my payment method failed only 15 days or less after the payment due date and didn't provide the opportunity for a backup. Their customer support is problematic. They sent an email about my profile suspension saying they'd delete all data 'very soon,' which was ambiguous. I wasn't notified when my account was deleted. The initial setup wasn't easy.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Contabo’s VPS for hosting my startup's platform due to its okay yearly pricing, but faced issues with account deletion after payment failures, and poor customer support.

 ### 4. Affordable, Easy Server Management, Though Support Can Be Slow

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angelos C. | Co-Founder, Non-Profit Organization Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

Affordable prices and simple configuration. It’s easy to deploy and manage servers without unnecessary complexity.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

Support can sometimes be slow, and the service often gets criticized by people without real IT knowledge, which gives it an unfair reputation.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contabo solves the need for affordable VPS hosting, allowing me to run servers and projects at a low cost without sacrificing the resources I need.

 ### 5. Contabo is a joke

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yaroslav H. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

Can recommend only if you would like to have a stress and spend your project funds for nothing. Or would like to face the worstest expirience that you can only have in the field of hosting\dedicated servers.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

Contabo is a joke! I have never seen so unprofessional hosting provider in last 20 years. I have a dedicated server with them and every 2-3 months my servers go down, I lodge a ticket and wait for 2-3-5 days while they workers reboot, turn on my server again. Their dashboard and UI actually from 1990x, the worst that I ever seen. You can't manage your server, you can forget about IPMI, even reboot a server and get a response if it's succed or not or lodge a ticket is my nighmare that I need again and again go though every time when can't get access for a days or weeks to my server. AWFUL and DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. Their management on LinkedIn always silent when you have a complain and telling that support didn't up a server during last 3 days.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They can't solve even the basic problem in management and communication, the technical part is even much worse.

 ### 6. Suspended Within Hours – They Reuse Dirty IPs and Blame You

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Musiko T. | Founder & Web Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

Honestly, the price looks attractive at first. That’s the trap. On paper it’s cheap, specs look good, location choices are decent – but none of it matters when your VPS is killed right after setup.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

I bought a fresh VPS and within hours it was suspended due to an old abuse report tied to the IP they gave me (154.26.132.151). I hadn’t even used it yet. It’s clear they recycled a dirty IP. Contabo never warned me, just shut it down and demanded $46 for reactivation. Total scam move. I sent proof, logs, even contacted Cogent directly. They ignored it and still blamed me. Support is slow, robotic, and unapologetic. I don’t trust this company anymore. Avoid Contabo unless you want surprise suspensions for things you didn’t do.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Frankly, Contabo didn't solve anything — I purchased the VPS expecting reliable infrastructure and affordability. Instead, I got a recycled, flagged IP that led to an immediate suspension without usage. Rather than benefit, I lost time, money, and trust. The whole experience caused damage to my workflow and confidence in budget hosting providers.

 ### 7. High-Performance VPS provider Budget Friendly

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luca P. | Chief Operations Officer DEQUA Studio | Formerly CTO in MarTech, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

The VPS lineup maps from entry to high memory tiers, with fixed vCPU counts and large SSD or NVMe allocations. The pricing model stays linear across tiers. Configurations remain consistent without monthly spec changes, and the RAM‑heavy options accommodate in‑memory services.

Even on lower tiers, the RAM and disk allocations are substantial. For dedicated servers, the core counts and storage options maintain cost‑effectiveness relative to mainstream providers. The platform supports persistent services, staging clusters, and data‑intensive workloads where predictable throughput is prioritized.

The NVMe variants deliver consistent I/O for metadata‑heavy workloads and small‑file patterns. The IOPS profile remains steady for logs, search indices, and build caches. Both SSD and NVMe tiers exist under the same SKU families.

Multiple locations span EU, US, and additional regions. Cross‑region deployments use consistent SKU catalogs. Frankfurt and US regions show steady performance with clean networking and standard peering.

The control panel is utilitarian and quick to load. Provisioning, power cycling, reverse DNS, and ISO mounts are accessible without layered menus. Routine tasks sit at the top level rather than behind modals.

Custom ISO support functions for installing niche OS variants, hardened images, or specific partitioning schemes. This works with internal baselines, CIS‑hardened builds, or LUKS‑encrypted root configurations.

VPS instances include snapshots for rollback during kernel updates or config changes. Scheduled backups run and restore at reasonable speeds. The pricing for these add‑ons scales with the base instance cost.

Native IPv6 and reverse DNS editing are available. PTR records can be modified without tickets. This supports mail server configurations, analytics collectors, and services requiring reverse DNS.

The API covers provisioning, start/stop, snapshot orchestration, and monitoring hooks. It integrates with Terraform workflows and internal scripts. The endpoints remain stable with consistent responses.

Sustained transfers for backups, container registry sync, and mirror operations show consistent performance. This applies to nightly jobs and cross‑region replication patterns.

Extra IPv4, snapshots, and backups are itemized clearly. Total spend calculation for stacks is straightforward without hidden fees.

Hypervisor stability has been solid across quarters. Kernel upgrades and host rebalances create minimal impact. Maintenance windows are brief with clear communication.

Prebuilt images for Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, and Windows Server are available. Cloud‑init functions as expected with reliable SSH key injection.

Bare‑metal options include practical storage defaults. These accommodate CI runners, artifact stores, and databases requiring predictable local disks.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

During peak windows, baseline VPS instances sometimes show modest CPU steal or fluctuating disk latency. It becomes noticeable under sustained load tests, requiring consideration when sizing critical services to higher tiers.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contabo addressed infrastructure consolidation needs by replacing a scattered setup of smaller instances across different providers. The larger VPS configurations with generous RAM allocations reduced patch management complexity and monitoring overhead. The consistent I/O performance from NVMe options stabilized CI pipeline execution times and eliminated storage‑related build failures.

Regional placement in Frankfurt and US regions brought API response times into acceptable ranges for European and American users without requiring complex CDN setups. The snapshot functionality streamlined QA workflows by eliminating database seeding complexity and test data pollution between feature branches.

The predictable pricing model with transparent add‑on costs eliminated budget surprises during quarterly reviews. Linear scaling made capacity planning straightforward, reducing friction in infrastructure expansion approvals and providing finance teams with clear visibility into hosting expenses.

 ### 8. Absolutely the Worst VPS Provider Ever

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrea P. | Founder & CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

The only positive thing about Contabo is the price. However, the service is so poor that even the low cost isn’t worth it. You end up paying for constant frustration, unreliable performance, and non-existent support. It’s better to spend a little more on a provider that actually delivers what they promise.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

Contabo has been the single worst experience I’ve ever had in 15 years of working with online services. My website has been offline for over two weeks due to their abysmal service. The server is painfully slow, making it impossible to use even when it’s technically online.

Their customer support is an absolute joke. All they do is stall with vague replies, showing no intention of actually solving the problem. After two weeks of downtime and frustration, they refused to offer a refund for their completely failed service. I’ve been left with no choice but to file a dispute with my bank to try to get my money back.

This is incompetence on a whole new level. Contabo is unreliable, unprofessional, and frankly feels like a scam. Save yourself the nightmare and stay far away from them. There are far better providers out there that actually deliver on their promises.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contabo offers cost-effective VPS solutions with substantial resources, which can be appealing for budget-conscious users seeking high CPU, RAM, and storage capacities. However, in my experience, the low pricing does not compensate for the significant drawbacks, such as prolonged downtime, sluggish server performance, and unresponsive customer support. These issues have led to operational disruptions and financial losses, outweighing any potential benefits from the cost savings.

 ### 9. Incredibly Poor Support at Contabo

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

Contabo has a decent sales department and quick setup. It's everything after set up that is horrendous.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

In 30 years, I have never experienced a hosting company even NEARLY as bad as Contabo.
Their tech support is virtually non-existent.
If you call their ph number, you get a recording in German telling you to write an email/ticket.
Their ticket system is ridiculous. Once you open a ticket, there is nothing in your account to view open tickets or manage them in anyway.
We had a simple question re: WHM and adding a feature they failed to install. A week or so later, they still hadn't solved it. We hired a 3rd party tech support agency and they resolved it in under 20 minutes!
Weeks later, our server went offline.
After 44 hours, Contabo still hadn't fixed it. Contabo still couldn't tell us what was wrong. They just sent us occasional snarky emails telling us things like "you can email us all you want" and "but it's not going to hurry the issue..." No one to call. No way to check tickets.. After nearly 48 hours of no server-- we restored an off-server back up and moved somewhere else.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contabo can't seem to solve much of anything.

 ### 10. Highly unreliable. Server under a "Non planned maintenance" and not available for more than a wee

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Riad G. | CEO & Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

Pricing is interesting. Had good reviews but was tricked by this!

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

Had many issues with Contabo
1. Had low performance for a long time with a server. After heavy investigation, it turned out the server was bad so they had to change it. This happened more than once.
2. This is the most critical part. Server was not reachable for over a week. Couldn't submit a ticket and they mention on their website "No maintenance". Highly non-reliable and would never trust them again.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing virtual servers for hosting applications.

 ### 11. Server Hosting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashish M. | CNCF (Kubernetes) Open source Contributer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

It gives clean Ips of server. Also the communication is also good. They provide all solution easily. also they provide webhosting and many things.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

Sometimes they blocked port 25 of servers. And all the thing is good.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides Virtual private Server. and we use these VPS to host our projects. and also use their services.

 ### 12. The worst VPS provider you can find on the market

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Filip F. | Student Intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

I liked Contabo a year ago, but now I don't have anything that I do like, as they are currently the worst provider you can possibly find.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

They have the highest downtime rate. They are cheap, but still not worth the money. They don't offer a good support when it's important to you. They have had a downtime for 26 hours recently and wasn't responding in that time

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

VPS

 ### 13. Running complex rendering jobs

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seryan Z. | Sales Coach, Telecommunications, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

For my money though, Contabo has the greatest advantage when it comes to power. I have a lot of demanding software that I use in my design agency and Contabo’s VPS plans coped well with everything that I threw at them.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

I found it difficult to buy into Contabo’s backup system. For one, recharging them felt terribly slow and cumbersome. I work closely with confidential information from clients, so I needed a solution to back up my system, which I later replaced by a third-party back-up tool.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contabo’s simply impressive VPS plans offered me relief from the less effective shared hosting I used before. This means that my websites will load faster for my clients and I shall be able to hire or terminate my workers periodically.

 ### 14. Repeated downtimes without notice. Poor customer service. No regrets, care a hang attitude.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taha M A. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

There is nothing good about them at all. The reviews that they show on their website are fabricated. The ratings that they show are fake.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

1. Server goes down repeatedly.
2. The downtimes are not even reported on their status page.
3. Support tickets remain unanswered for days.
4. Absolutely nothing is done to prevent recurrence. You will go through it again and again in frustration.
5. You will have nightmare migrating.
6. Frequent switches between datacenters and server reboots without informing.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting requirements. As of now, not helping much.

 ### 15. Review for Contabo

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shivam V. | Product Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

What I like best about Contabo is the great value. Their VPS plans are affordable and reliable. It's easy to set up, and you can upgrade resources whenever you need. Their customer support is also really helpful and quick to respond.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

What I dislike about Contabo is that their control panel feels a bit outdated and not as user-friendly as some other hosting providers. It can be a bit tricky to navigate at times. Also, their initial setup can take longer compared to other hosts.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contabo provides affordable, reliable hosting, which helps me run my websites and applications within budget. Their flexible upgrade options make it easy to scale up as needed.

 ### 16. Almost non existing support

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** CONSTANTIN N. | CEO, Project and Client Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

Right now nothing, before that prices and packages

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

Reliability failed us and our clients.
Support - a mythical creature

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

VPS provider, but already not

 ### 17. My request for restart of the server never happend, ultimately i had to opt for another provider

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

it is the cheapest option available in the market

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

zero support, simple request for restart of the server not honoured from last 7 days passed. after 2 days they stopped responding to any of my email.

I am still waiting for them to respond. Though i have opted for another provider for now.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

i was looking for cheap metal server. and it was the one i found. but ultimately when my server hanged and i was not able to ssh. i requested a restart of the server. which even after passing 7 days has still not happened. so you can't rely on their service if any support is required.

 ### 18. Best price for a hosting provider

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

Stable Performance for a very low budget. For as long as we have been using it, it was pretty reliable.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

My company hasn't had any problems so far. We're pretty happy with our choice.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a cheap and reliable website-hosting solution. Especially compared to other providers. The user interface is also pretty easy to navigate.

 ### 19. Worst provider ever

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

cheap, there is nothing else interesting about them.

**What do you dislike about Contabo?**

1) They don't reply to tickets
2) Performance is awful
3) Delivery takes ages
4) Sales team forgot why they exist

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cheap infrastructure

 ### 20. Contabo Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zahid A. | Hacker, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Contabo?**

I am using contabo VPS for 3 years, and still, I have 7 running VPS, they are providing VPS is cheap as compared to other providers, but they have issues in European servers which has no extra cost, but I faced some issues in my 3 European VPS, so I moved the regional to the UK, now we don't have any issues. Thanks to the contabo team.

**What problems is Contabo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Large specifications for a fraction of the cost of aws or Google cloud.
