  ### 5. On-Screen Takeoff For the win!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael R. | Project Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2024

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I really enjoy the feature where all of your take offs are compiled from different sheets with the various conditions is incredibly helpful. I don't have to manually keep track of this, and the ease of importing this information into excel is really great!

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I think the interface of zooming/adjusting the viewing pane could be improved. If this had the same controls as bluebeam revu, then the ease would be much easier. The automatic scaling is helpful only if that page is actually that scale, but if there was a prompt to verify the scaling so less errors would occur, that would also be great.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are conducting design/precon and utilizing on-screen take off allows us to communicate to the trades what a general idea of what amount of material is being used, as well as identify any surprises/errors that may be found.

  ### 6. program for minimul takeoff

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Les Y. | Director of Pre-Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2023

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

decent content
able to highlight areas and get quantities

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

not easy to navigate
tools cumbersome
level of detail questionable

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

minor takeoff with quantites

  ### 7. Best Bang For Your Buck

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James S. | Pre-Construction Manager | Senior Estimator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2021

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Scaled takeoff imagery - OST scales the takeoff according to input parameters; e.g., a linear take-off set to 6" appears as a 6" line on the sheet. A count take-off set to 3' x 3' appears as 3' x 3' on the sheet. Output organization - OST allows you to group & filter according to various user parameters (division, section, assembly, etc.).

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The text & imagery auto search & recognition can use more development. The cloud version (ConstructConnect) has a visual scale versus the actual scale option. It would be great if OST had the same capability. For example, in the could version, a user can perform a rectangular count take-off that is 10'x30', but visually represent it as 1'x1' on the sheet.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

This is the most cost-effective take-off software available.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Take-off is exceptionally efficient. An average user can easily digest 150 sheets per week. OST allows my department to increase the number of bids per year with less staff.

  ### 8. Great take off program

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan R. | E, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2022

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I liked the capability to upload a lot of plans, have 2 screens going, have my take off under one tab, the easy flow of doing my take offs, and the speed of the program of itself. Since I used this for the painting world, the double side feature was awesome for doing two walls at one time.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I did not life you could only do tiff files and trying to search for something was pretty hard when especially when you have hundreds of pages uploaded into the software. Sometimes the program would crash and it would not save some of the work you did.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

It is a great program and easy to use.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was doing take offs for paint and it was super smooth and easy using the linear function. It helped keep everything in nice organized manner on the estimating tab for our PMs. I like how you can plug in the wall heights and it would instantly split out how much sqft it was.

  ### 9. Takeoff Software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James S. | C, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2021

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Takeoff is fast and easy. You can keep up with where you left off at very easily

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The only things I have found that I do not like is the ability to use in the cloud and being able to customize the annotations

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

The area tool makes it much faster when performing a takeoff on multifamily

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The takeoff is very easy and accurate. I can get my estimates finished faster with more accuracy.

  ### 10. OST Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** seth o. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2020

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I like the simplicity and the multiple views you can get from it to both perform take offs and show my team and client what we have picked up in our bids

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I dont like how it links to the file location rather then files, especially when someone moves it i love the image and have to re-link it

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Nothing to add except maybe a better way to link drawings

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find it really easy to do takeoffs and accurate. It makes my job easier and a lot faster

  ### 11. Create bids for jobs

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heather A. | Research Analyst/Transcriptionist/Internet Research/Recruiter, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2020

  ### 12. Get's the Quantity Take-offs done, just lacks smooth technology

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

On-Screen Takeoff does a great job for overall project estimates of all materials in almost every uniformat division. It provides many different markers and colors that help with taking off each material under various conditions (area, linear, counting, etc.) which help with documenting the project neatly and efficiently under a single file by one user or multiple users.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

It is a slow program that takes a while to load. My company uses it through Citrix Receiver so that plays a hand in the speed of the program, but despite the fact it can be inconvenient at times when we are simply trying to change sheets and it takes a few seconds to load, or even scroll on the same sheet. Exporting to excel or other programs can get a little messy too but once you understand how to do it, it can be helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

This is where I get most of my quantities as it allows for clear and concise material documentation. I recommend to use if you are going into estimation and need to get quantities as a group.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems being solved include group QTO's that all people in the precon team can make their own quantity take off from the same file for consistency. Benefits include clear estimations and layers allow for division of areas to be notified for pricing differentials. Another benefit is that the program identifies the sheets that have counts or markups on it and use a color to identify these sheets for you to see so you don't have to go on the useless sheets that are unimportant to your take off.

  ### 13. This is a great software for take off. I strongly recommend it.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I love that you can have a legend displaying take off on each individual page. I like that i can overlay different drawings. I also like being able to display the take off legend on each page

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I dislike that it is difficult to copy and paste. I will this software and Plangrid were merged. This would be revolutionary. I also wish I could upload all drawings into the system so i could track my drawings as well.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

I would recommend using the legend that shows take off on each drawing by going on cover sheet tab. The second tab will give you options of what counts you want displayed.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I like checking the scale by measuring the scale bar on the drawing. Also, i recommend checking dimensions on the drawings placed by the architect to confirm your scale is not off. I remember one time, i checked the horizontal and vertical scale and the vertical was 20% off. I work for a construction management company and would always recommend scales are doubled checked before doing a takeoff.

  ### 14. Easy to use program for take offs of plans

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad B. | Estimator , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

-Its easy to use simple interface,
-easy to export to excel and other programs.
-ability to overlay and manipulate existing counts
- the ability to import files in colors

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

how its hard to use the worksheet feature in the program.
sometimes its hard to import PDF files from some designers because the way the PDF is made into layers.
- how only one person can work on a file at a time but others can view it

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

if you need a simple program to count items on plans without needing a super computer this program will help you alot and it works in and lives in your office network so it makes it easier to have multiple people work on a file

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

try to count items on landscape plans for bidding a project . and it makes counting so much faster compared to just manually counting everything.

and it helps us keep track of purchasing items since we reference the counts on OST to what is on plan and what is fulfilled

  ### 15. A useful tool to quickly create budgets

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad Ali B. | Landscape Designer III, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Easy to use, can easily import PDF, and images of plans.
Very simple to break up a project into zones and different work areas.
Low cost

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

How you can only overlay 1 plan over another. And sometimes can’t read PDF files that have layers crashes the program and makes you use other software to convert then bring files in

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

If your company needs a simple program to count sheets and items this helps a lot with counting tools even built in budget sheets

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted to count items to price them out for bids we use them as a landscape firm

  ### 16. OST - Simple and Effective

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher E. | Project Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

What I like about OST is that it is so effective and simple that we can start any employee using it. Uploading and converting plans is simple, PDF viewing is nice, and I highly recommend turning on full screen crosshair to align things across an entire plan.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Managing servers for multiple people to use is not the greatest. Also required to buy a license manager.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Benefits is that being simplistic and robust is better than being detailed and time-consuming.

  ### 17. Love using this software for estimating!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The ease of conducting takeoff and having the ability to share my projects with coworkers.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The software can be expensive per user, but it is worth the cost.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Highly recommend using this software rather than other "cheaper software."

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Takeoff and documentation of projects. No need to print and scale with a ruler and pencil!

  ### 18. Quick efficient takeoffs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I like the conditions you can set. I think being able to turn off and on the the different layers so you don’t have to look at multiple takeoffs at once. It keeps it organized.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I wish that OST would get more specific with lumber takeoffs. I would like the program to breakout the number of studs, etc.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our takeoffs are much faster. Since it is all kept in a database I don’t have to worry about losing takeoffs.

  ### 19. On-Screen Takeoff

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cody O. | Estimator, Design, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2018

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I like the large range of tools that help with takeoff

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I haven't found any major issues. Im usually able to do everything I need. When I sort my takeoff by area and type, it breaks up my quantities by type first, but I wish I had the option to break them up by area first, then type.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

So far it the best estimate software I have used. I can compare to Measure Square, ConEst, and Timberline

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can do 100,000 + sf of takeoff in a day with On-Screen

  ### 20. Good estimating tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

It’s the best

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quantity take off for Estimating , very convenient!!!!!!!!!!

  ### 21. OST is does the job

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2019

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The ability to group takeoff counts together is the best feature.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The PDF quality when using as a background is too low of resolution.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to quote projects with OST is extremely fast compared to other software.

  ### 22. Good program for general construction estimating, lacks some helpful tools

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2018

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

On-Screen Takeoff (OST) is a very smooth program to operate. Whether you are looking at a 1000 page set of construction drawings, or a 2 page napkin sketch, the interface and view of your workspace is smooth. Even when you are deep into a takeoff with markups, area takeoffs, counts and other notes littering your workspace, the software can keep up with you as you zoom, pan and jump page to page. Some competitors cannot say the same.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Some of the tools come up a little short. Why can't there be some simple geometric tools to aid in markups or area takeoffs? There should also be a little bit more customization in the markup tools. It's not clear what some of the tools do, or how they would be useful to a user.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

If you are just getting into the program and have the opportunity to jump into or view a project previously completed by a coworker, it might be a good idea to poke around their project to see how they utilized some of tools available on OST. Additionally, if you have a program like BlueBeam, it helps to load your drawings in BlueBeam first to rename, resize, recolor or make any modifications to your PDF before loading into OST.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use On-Screen Takeoff to put together estimates, budgets and run take-offs in the construction industry.

  ### 23. easy to use program to do simple takeoffs

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Owen B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2018

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

the Thing i like best about On-Screen Takeoff is that it is so easy to use. when I was first introduced to the program about a year ago it only took me a few hours to get the hang of the program.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

one thing i do not like about On-Screen is how the PDF uploads into the program. It uploads in black and white and almost seems grainy. If you have to do takeoffs on different regions indicated by different colors, when the PDF uploaded into On-Screen it is very hard to see the different sections.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using On-Screen to confirm volumes given to me on bid forms. also I use it to confirm quantity of material so that I can get an accurate price when bidding a job.

  ### 24. The best takeoff software in the market.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Divyanshu P. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2018

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

This is the best takeoff software on the market despite high pricing. It is very user-friendly and the way this software is designed is simply amazing. There is no problem while doing take-offs because of an immense number of features and detailing provided to you. I have tried various other take-off software but this is the best.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Slightly high on pricing but I can not really complain about it knowing the features and amazing software I get to use. Nothing I like dislike about it.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

If you can afford it, go for it. Best take-off software in the market.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use on-screen takeoff for everyday use such as performing takeoffs, using project management tools and much more.

  ### 25. Awesome building construction calculator!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan W. | Project IT Specialist, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

On-Screen is great at helping us calculate needed supplies for construction projects, to the point we use this software almost exclusively for this purpose! It has lots of tools in place to make the often monotonous counting go faster, and still be accurate.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

As I sit here and write this, I honestly really can't think of anything except it's time consuming; but when considering the accuracy it gives versus doing a take-off by hand, it's well worth it!

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

If you're looking for something more accurate that performing a take-off by hand, check out this software!

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

On-Screen is our almost-exclusive tool used to calculate supplies needed for construction projects. It's accuracy is more spot-on than performing a take-off by hand, and well worth the investment!

  ### 26. Clear and organized format for takeoff

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luke P. | Project Estimator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The format is intuitive and easy to use. I appreciate how quickly I can create conditions, as well as navigating though the planset. I've found that having the plans uploaded for takeoff later in the building phase also helps the Project management team evaluate change orders quickly.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

There are some features that I've found to much of a hassle to use or try and learn. Grouping, the adjustment of sets of takeoff quanties, and there is funcionaliyt for creating a bid, but i havnt used it

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Make sure you try it out and verify that it meets your needs before purchace.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating a document that clearly shows all the different conditions and values makes it much easier to communicate with the project team.

  ### 27. Fast Simple Estimating

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** christian M. | Project Engineer, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I love how easy it is to use this software and how quickly I can work up an estimate on a concrete bid. I am at another company now and our software takes me twice the time to do the similar amount of work. I also like the ease of sharing the produced information. This is extremely important to me to be able to easily and quickly share estimate information with other members of my team.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

My biggest hold up with OST was the price, I still think it was worth it and with my time savings it probably comes out to be about the same as with other cheaper software but it is a significant investment compared to many of the other options.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

I think it would be best suited for the larger commercial projects while small to mid size residential projects could be done just as easily and for a fraction of the cost with other software.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When using OST typically I would be working on multiple estimates at the same time, OST allows me to easily organize and access these various projects as well as complete the estimates in a timely manner that saves me bundles of time. I also have found that I get less errors in the end as it is very easy to see what items I have already covered and what I am still needing to get a take off for.

  ### 28. Easy to manage bids

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hilary H. | Landscape Architect in Training, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I like that you can view your images while performing take offs without having to manually go back and forth between two different programs like we were before. It's easy to manage many different projects at once. I also like that you can send and receive projects with other users of the software. It saves so much time overall and can automatically calculate area and volumes based on the attach drawings. These built-in calcuators not only save time, but are extremely accurate and efficient too. They'll prevent you from accidentally typing wrong info when doing manual take-offs.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

There is a little bit of a learning curve to get going, but there are plenty of tutorials to assist you along the way. There is also a help center right in the software. Sometimes have issues displaying PDFs, but that could simply be user error. I've had that issue in other programs so I very well could be doing something wrong.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

I recommend it if your primary job is to manage take-offs of many large projects. If you work in a small firm, you can probably get away with using Excel and your own created spreadsheet for take offs.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This program helps solve the problem of manually creating a take-off in Microsoft Excel. We used to manually create a spreadsheet, but this program sets up for take-offs SO much easier.

  ### 29. On Point

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron G. | Estimator, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

On screen takeoff allows for quick takeoff that's highly accurate and intuitive. You can tell that it was made with contractors in mind because they have a variety of takeoff types and can be highly customization. Layers and area options increase the amount of information readily accessible and reduces the amount of time needed later to quickly answer questions. Lastly, the fact that you can create a database of items, allows for uniformity which makes team collaboration and hand offs a breeze.. You also have options such as searching for markings and typical groups that increase the accuracy while reducing the manhours for takeoff.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

If you plan on using a program like Citrix to use the program, good luck. OST does not play nicely and will either run extremely slow or crash. It's also frustrating that you can't designate sub areas: for condo projects, you must make the decision of wanting quantities per floor or by areas on the floor (units, rooms etc.)

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Invest the time to create a database for OST items. The true value of the software (other than more accurate takeoff) is uniformity. It allows you to have teams review takeoff or quickly find answers and this is best done when there are standards in place to guide the takeoff process.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Estimating, takeoff

  ### 30. OST

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Earl W. | Lead Estimator, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

OST makes my life very simple. It is a huge upgrade from having to do take-off on paper. This software allows my company to take off every single scope we perform and quantify it how we need to. The ability to link with Quickbid and price is amazing.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

There are a few options that I would like to see added to the software. The ability to perform take-off and measurements on the 2nd window would help tremendously. Also, if the measuring tool was able to go to the 1/8" that would be beneficial.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

This program will help you maximize your production with its ease of use. Their support team is the best I have ever worked with.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OST is the best take-off program that I have used in the drywall industry. It gives us the ability to take off our quantities for every aspect of our company. With this software, I am able to very quickly review my field personnel's quantities to make sure our amount of material is close to each other. This saves us on busts while sitting up our budgets and ordering our materials.

  ### 31. On-Screen is a useful tool for conceptual design levels on projects

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph B. | Cost Estimator/Resident Project Representative, Civil Engineering, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

It is simple to upload drawings and sketches into, set a scale, and start pulling together basic quantities. It is useful for high-level designing where rough areas/quantities are needed. Exporting to Excel is also very useful to base estimates from.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The floating licenses, file back-ups, and the export product into excel is often cumbersome. As stated, the program is great for high-level estimating which only requires basic quantities. Some details (Different wall types, formwork calculations for columns, etc. must be externally calculated. This is acceptable if the end user is the same as the individual that's doing the quantities. It can be hard to trust otherwise.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

I would recommend this software as a great tool for quick take-off from any form that can be scanned in

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The program offers simple quantity take-off which can be organized, and formatted to meet many needs of our company. It is primarily used for conceptual design, or in instances of rough-estimating. We have put in a notebook sheet with a couple of sketches, which we in turn were able to put together a list of several basic quantities which we could use as basis for one of our estimating products.

  ### 32. No learning curve for entry level takeoff

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2018

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Platform is straightforward and easy to use even for a beginner with little technical knowledge of the field. Automatically saves progress as you work.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Conditions/styles do not automatically save to your database as additional projects with new styles are imported.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time to complete takeoffs is greatly reduced as computer does all calculations/counts

  ### 33. One - Year with On Screen Takeoff

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The program's ability to store style sets makes my estimating very fast and easy. I work with a bunch of typical blueprints, and having the ability to click on a style set for offices / hotels / condos makes the whole process so quick and easy.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The fact that it doesn't support working via VPN. The program must be installed locally. After many hours of discussions with the company as well as IT, it ultimately was determined it wont work via VPN. In this age, that is a must and may be why we stop using it when our license is up.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Really take the training courses offered when they're selling you the product. Our first user learned on his own and although he knows the program better than anyone else in our office, he still learned a lot from the classes. I would suggest having a week or two with the program and then taking the course purely so it isnt all new and all at once. If you jump right in to the classes, you will be overwhelmed.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to bridge a generation gap with this software. We had our younger estimators start learning the software via the classes and were able to teach the senior estimators how it worked. Since then, we have switched our whole estimating team over and are able to bid about twice as many projects as before. It is amazing.

  ### 34. Taking the guesswork out of Estimating

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ammon D. | Jr. Estimator, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The ability to complete a takeoff and integrate revisions to the plans using the 'overlay' feature makes this program worthwhile and the added speed and takeoff compiling features are all an added bonus.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

There are minute restrictions in what the capabilities of the exporting of information may face but nothing worth abandoning ship over.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Just try it. Allow OST to show you how much time and money it can save you in the long run. I promise that if you do you will find your ability to review revisions, takeoff new jobs and price them effectively will increase exponentially as your bid times drop. There just isn't a better way to do takeoffs now.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to stream line our processes from original pricing to final pricing using our shop drawings which creates large chunks of saved time that frees up our estimating team to begin work on the next job.

  ### 35. Right on time when we needed it most

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph P. | Senior Estimator, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

-The overlay is good, It helps me keep track the variation works. So many drawings issued sometimes. With this, You can determined your risk exposure
- It gives me confidence on my take-off especially when you need to go back say 3- months after you submit you bid. You can easily trace your take-off in other words,
- Multiple take off can be done, saving me lots of time when under pressure

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

-If I used the Typical group, sometimes it takes time to calculate when summing up the quantities
-It does not give me a warning if I'm reaching the recommended data base size of 40K KB, so you see error or will stppped working on the screen. Need to compact /repair.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Recommendable so far.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- You build a better bill of quantities & give me a better confidence. Efficiency & accuracy is the benefit & I guess more profit & If build correctly on the site

  ### 36. Great software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The tech support is exceptional, always able to fix things I mess up. Easy to set up and use

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

It does a great job, haven't had any problems other than Windows 10 operating system.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ability to create just about any report you can think about.

  ### 37. Quantity Survey Software for Estimators

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steve C. | Business Manager- Sales & Estimating, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Very intuitive. Easy to teach to new employees and/or technology resistant employees. Lots of bells and whistles make customization easy for each user. Easy to export all information to other users. Can export all drawings, take-off, legend, etc. Information interfaces with Quick Bid (Obviously), but can also be exported to excel. Once take-off is completed, worksheet tab allows for quick compilation of OOM/Budget pricing

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Updates have sometimes been buggy. The authorization code process is still a bit of a process after updates are employed. almost to much redundancy, customization. could probably be simplified without sacrifice. More take off patterns for linear and ares conditions would be nice.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Excellent software. definitely worth the expense.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick, easy take-off. Eliminates potential human error (i.e. the software does not transpose numbers). Less experienced estimators can perform a take-off and export to senior staff- fully modifiable/correctable upon receipt.

  ### 38. Great Takeoff/ Bid Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyler F. | Project Estimator, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

This software is so powerful when paired with Quick Bid 4. So easy to use and can be highly customized to make your experience easier and really cuts down on the time spent estimating and with the ease of use you can make more accurate takeoffs.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I have a minimal list of dislikes, some of the mouse movements and moving features are user friendly but I feel they could use some improving.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

I highly recommend users of On Screen Takeoff to purchase Quick Bid 4. The connected bids are so easy to manage and makes estimating and providing proposals seemless.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to provide more accurate quotes using OST. The ease of use and the ability to connect to a powerful bid software instantly makes it steps further than our old method of re-entering all the takeoff data into an excel file.

  ### 39. Any Day above the Green, Is a Great Day!!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Terry S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

The ability to document what you are taking off in order to provide back-up of what you plan to furnish on a project, listing sound and fire ratings, etc. and to help the General Contractor to clarify to the owner, what he is buying.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Computers and their software programs are not always as stable as we would like and with the usual user error that comes from hurrying on bid day it seems that the program always has a new problem on those days.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

With other Companies I have looked at other systems and bought other systems. None are perfect, nor was the program I built on an early spreadsheet, but I feel that for the money OCS provides a good solid program for a reasonable price and has a great team of experts to provide support when you need them.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

An income.

  ### 40. Data, and using On-Screen Takeoff

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shayne P. | President, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Using OST, think of a project as a OST Database. One per Project, now you can modify a base OST Database(MS Access Database), copy and rename. You could add tables and fields to the MS Access Database to fit your needs.

You can also export to CSV, Excel and why not xml(disabled)

You can have access to OST remotely, using license manager.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

It all depends on how you use the data. Allow user to modify data in the Takeoff Tab, ie. Notes - BidTakeoff.BidContidion.Notes for example. It asked for 40 characters.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Check your options, but always think how do I get the data.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quantity takeoffs, and the data that I get.

  ### 41. Very good software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stacey F. | Estimator, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I love the ease of use. It is very simple to have it up and running quickly however there are many steps that you can take further if you want to get into more detail. The support is awesome as well.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

There are a couple of bugs that makes the screen move on me when I start to have a lot of conditions. There probably is a fix I just haven't gotten it done yet.

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

Take the time to learn right away.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

accurate and fast takeoffs. Also, printing for the job to have a colored takeoff of the plan has been an added benefit.

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Able to perform takeoff directly on project plan sheets

  ### 44. On-Screen Takeoff Review

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2017

**What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

I like that the product is easy to use and is very functional.

**What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?**

Most of my plans are in color and your product only does black and white. My sewer lines are green and when they transfer over to your file the green lines don't show up at all in black and white so I am always guessing on the sewer lines. This made me go to another takeoff software that allows me to view in color (STACK). I like your product better but I need to view the take off in color!

**Recommendations to others considering On-Screen Takeoff®:**

You can not view you plans in color. Only Black and White.

**What problems is On-Screen Takeoff® solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I like the ease of the product but I have to use another takeoff software to view in color. So no benefits with your product until I can do my view in color.

**Official Response from Larry Walker:**

> Thank you for leaving your feedback on your experience with On-Screen Takeoff. It is always good to get feedback, even if it doesn't hit our 10-star expectations.

We did want to let you know that On-Screen Takeoff does, in fact, supports full-color plan viewing as you asked for. You can see how to enable it here: https://www.oncenter.com/kbase/article/AA-00292

One of the biggest challenges with a product as robust as On-Screen Takeoff is letting our customers know every feature and function available. We are sorry you had to purchase additional software to do what you can do with OST. Please feel free to contact support, or use the "How do I" function inside On-Screen Takeoff to uncover how the software will do what you need it to.

We look forward to serving your takeoff and estimating needs for the next 30+ years.
