"Essential Tool for Streamlined Production Tracking"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

This program has proven to be incredibly useful for tracking production, especially with its feature that allows us to physically mark completions and percentage completion on every item in our takeoff. I use it most days and really appreciate being able to pick up exactly where I left off, even when I don't have an internet connection. Since our company adopted this software, our work has become much easier, as integrating this production tracking system is far more efficient than relying on traditional paper and pen takeoff methods. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

If it were possible to use this program on an iPad instead of having to carry a laptop while walking around my project sites, it would be a significant improvement in terms of ease of use. This would be especially beneficial if foremen and field personnel could access and utilize it directly themselves. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

Thank you for such a thoughtful review, Samuel, and for sharing how you use OST to track production, mark completion and percent complete, and keep everything organized in a clean digital record. It’s great to hear that you can pick up right where you left off and that moving away from paper-and-pen takeoff has made it easier to estimate.

Your point about using OST on an iPad instead of carrying a laptop around the job site is very well taken, especially for foremen and field teams who would benefit from direct access in the field. Today, OST is a Windows desktop application, but our product team is actively investing in a new takeoff solution that is being designed to be responsive on tablets and iPads, so it’s much easier to use on site. Feedback like yours helps us prioritize those kinds of field-friendly improvements, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share it. Thanks again for your review!

"Powerful Customization and Seamless Bidding Integration"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

What is most helpful is the ability to create and customize my takeoff conditions and assign them to groups and sections. Also having OST in conjunction with Quickbid is a very powerful way to create a bid. And once I have bid something, I can track plan changes fairly easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

What I dislike the least is handling a masonry takeoff, which I sometimes have to do. Specifically CMU walls and such items. There is a lot of customizing I have to do and often enough it doens't work the way I want it to. Like rebar takeoffs are very easy or accurate.

Another dislike, which is linked to masonry takeoffs, is the inability to have multiple scale on the same page and/or split horizontal v vertical scales. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

Thank you for sharing how you’re using OST, especially around customizing conditions, grouping them, and pairing OST with Quick Bid to build your bids and track plan changes. That’s exactly the type of workflow those tools are designed for, and it’s great to hear the new split area tool has been helpful when you need to break out existing takeoff.

On the masonry side, your feedback is really valuable. CMU walls and related items can be more complex to model, and it sounds like you’re running into limitations with how your custom setup behaves compared to something more straightforward like rebar. We’d love to better understand your current CMU workflow and what “doesn’t work the way you want it to,” so our team can look at where we can improve. Would you be open to chatting with someone on the product team about this? Please email customeradvocacy@constructconnect.com for more details.

Regarding scale, you’re right to call out the constraint: OST isn’t architected to support multiple scales on the same page or different horizontal vs. vertical scales, so that’s not something the program can handle today. We know that can be a real limitation for certain masonry plans, and feedback like yours helps our product team understand where those constraints are most impactful as we continue refining the product. Thank you again for your review, Reed!

"Accurate Takeoffs and Efficient Workflow with OST, With Some Suggestions For Growth"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

I use OST for lath and plaster takeoffs, which can be very detailed and have a lot of different components. One of the most useful features is the ability to have a quantity two and quantity three all in one condition, it is efficient and leaves my takeoff looking clean and easy for the field to understand. Using the layers feature is also helpful in isolating certain aspects of my takeoff so I can check their accuracy quickly and provide specific material layouts to the field. Overall, my takeoffs can be extremely accurate, which allows for me and my team to know our exact costs and manipulate profit margins to land jobs and stay profitable in the process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

There aren't many downsides to using OST, although there are some features that I think can be improved. One of the things that impacts me the most is the measurement tool's tendency to auto-snap to measurements and other linear condition takeoffs on an elevation. For example if I am trying to measure a building height in order to figure out a hidden wall's height the measurement will snap into a bunch of different sections because I also have an expansion joint takeoff where I am trying to measure. While I did reach out to OST and request a feature, no progress has been made and the only solution I was offered was to turn all my other layers off. I think another feature that could be useful in saving time is an auto-scale feature, currently we rename and rescale all our plan sets. I know the technology is out there, it just hasn't yet made it to this program, I think in that regard OST is a little behind. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

Thank you for such a detailed review and for sharing how you use OST for lath and plaster takeoffs, especially with Quantity 2/3 and layers to keep things clean for the field and accurate for your team. It’s also great to hear that ongoing updates, quick answers through our help resources, and the in‑person training have made a real difference for you and your team.

On the measurement behavior, you’re right that auto‑snap can sometimes get in the way when you’re working on detailed elevations or trying to measure behind other linear takeoff. You can reduce some of that behavior by adjusting or disabling Snap Angle in the Options menu, but today, linears are still designed to break when drawn over other linears, and there isn’t a setting to fully turn that off yet. Our product team is actively looking at improvements to measurement tools based on feedback like yours. On auto‑scale, we agree this is an important time‑saver: Takeoff Boost already includes auto‑scale for many plan sets, so we’re working to close that gap you’ve called out. Thanks again for your review, Angelina!

"Feature-Rich and Powerful Tool for Precision Takeoffs"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

I appreciate how raw and feature-rich OST is. I enjoy that nothing is overly simplified, and there is a genuine learning curve to the app. This means that once you master all its features, you can perform a takeoff more quickly and with greater precision than others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

One aspect I dislike is that the program is quite heavy, so it needs a computer that's better than average to run smoothly. I also find the occasional lag frustrating. Additionally, the OST boost feature doesn't work very well unless all the necessary information is contained on a single page, which is rarely the case. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

Thank you for such a thoughtful review, Vinny, and for calling out what you appreciate about OST being “raw” and feature‑rich. We know there’s a real learning curve, and it means a lot to hear that once you’ve mastered those tools, you’re able to complete takeoffs faster and with higher precision, especially when you’re juggling multiple estimates in a day.

You’re also right to point out the tradeoffs. OST is a resource‑intensive application because of the depth of features it provides, so it is optimized for newer Windows environments like Windows 11 and above. Our team is continually working to reduce lag where we can, while still supporting the advanced workflows power users rely on. On Takeoff Boost, your feedback is spot on: it works best today when the key information it needs is contained on a single page, and complex, multi‑page scenarios can limit its effectiveness. We’re actively iterating on Boost and our next takeoff experience to make automated assistance more flexible over time, and input like yours helps us focus on the right improvements. Thanks again for your review, Vinny.

"Great for complex trade takeoffs, but lagging on AI"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

What I like best about OST is how well it handles complex estimating setups. I work in stucco, which means I’m constantly juggling a ton of different wall types, metals, and conditions, and OST lets me build out all of that without getting bogged down. Once you’re familiar with the workflow, it speeds up takeoffs dramatically and helps keep everything consistent and accurate from job to job.

I also really appreciate the people behind the software. The in-person OST/QuickBid training was genuinely helpful—they actually understand estimating, not just the program. Any issue I brought up, they tried to solve right there, and if there wasn’t an immediate fix they helped push a feature request through. Their phone support has been just as solid; most of the time they can either walk me through the solution or remote in and fix it directly. That level of support makes the learning curve feel a lot less steep. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

What I dislike most about OST is the measuring behavior. The auto-snap feature sounds helpful in theory, but in practice it constantly snaps to other takeoff or even the page itself. When I’m trying to measure something in clean segments—like laying out 20-foot increments for scaffolding—it breaks the line into a bunch of small, useless measurements. I brought this up during the in-person training, and even the trainers couldn’t find a way to disable or adjust it. We submitted a feature request, but it still hasn’t been resolved.

The other big drawback is the lack of meaningful AI integration. They’ve started adding some AI tools like Takeoff Boost and page renaming, but they’re very limited compared to what’s possible today. Boost doesn’t help at all with elevation takeoffs, which make up a large part of stucco estimating, and even on floor plans the results are only useful in very specific situations. The AI page renaming is slow and not very accurate, even though that kind of tech has been around for years.

Overall, the core program is strong, but the slow pace of updates—especially around AI—makes it feel like it’s falling behind modern tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

Thank you for such a thoughtful review and for highlighting how you use OST for complex stucco estimating. We’re glad it helps you manage all the different wall types, metals, and conditions while keeping your takeoffs consistent from job to job. It’s also great to hear that both our in‑person training and phone support have been genuinely helpful - that’s exactly the kind of partnership we aim for with estimators.

On the measuring behavior, you’re right that linear objects currently break when drawn over other takeoff, and there isn’t a way to turn that off today. Our team is actively reviewing this behavior, and for now the best workaround is to draw the linear object away from other objects and then move it into place once it’s complete. Feedback like yours is exactly what we use to prioritize improvements, and we’re continuing to iterate so these AI tools deliver more reliable value across more real‑world workflows.

"Quick Net SF & my Projections Are Great, Still Waiting on Floor Finish Boost functions and more."
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

Either Manually operated or using " Boost " it Provides Quick Net SF for projecting final material values, which can help secure good pricing from suppliers and fast turn around times on rush quotes.

Note : There are No "Floor Finish Plan" Boost functions (yet) , however if you get creative, you can utilize other features like the ceiling and paint takeoff, and manipulate / reassign Boost quantities to other conditions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

There are No "Floor Finish Plan" Boost functions yet. :(

Does not work on elevation Plans :(

Boost Cannot read and create conditions from schedules and Plan legends.

It cannot review and summarize / outline scope of work specific to any given trade ( i.e.: review this project for all floor finishes scope ) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Exceptionally Organized and Flexible Takeoff Solution"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

What I like best about On-Screen Takeoff® is how organized and flexible it is. I like that it compiles all of my takeoff data in one place, allows me to turn items on and off once they’ve been taken off, and lets me create groups for different areas. Those features make it easier to stay accurate, efficient, and organized throughout the takeoff process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

One aspect I find frustrating about On-Screen Takeoff® is that its navigation feels more restricted than in tools like Bluebeam, particularly when trying to move around the page. I would appreciate smoother cursor movement and faster zoom capabilities. Additionally, copying and pasting identical conditions is not very intuitive, which tends to slow down repetitive takeoff tasks. If there were more efficient shortcuts or quicker methods to duplicate conditions, the workflow would be significantly faster and more user-friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Takeoff Tools and Seamless File Sharing"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

The variety of tools and conditions in OST are very useful to make an accurate takeoff, which then helps in creating an accurate estimate. Also the ease of file sharing is one more thing which I like about OST. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

If the overlaying feature could be enhanced, it would be extremely helpful. When working on large projects and receiving addendums, a significant amount of time is spent just on overlaying. While the current feature is useful, it would be even better if it allowed for overlaying multiple pages at once. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

Thank you for sharing your experience with OST, Rafee, and for highlighting how the variety of tools and conditions help you drive accurate takeoffs and estimates. It’s also great to hear that file sharing has been helpful for your workflow—that kind of collaboration is exactly what we aim to support.

On overlays, you’re absolutely right that this is an important part of working large projects with multiple addenda. Today, OST can support applying overlays across multiple pages, but it does take a few extra steps, which is why it can feel time‑consuming on big plan sets. Fully automating multi‑page overlays in a single action is challenging from a site performance standpoint, and broad “overlay all at once” behavior is unlikely in the near term because a single overlay operation is already taxing on large files. That said, we know there’s room to make this smoother, and feedback like yours helps our product team continue to refine overlay workflows while balancing accuracy and performance. Thank you again for your review!

"Revolutionized Our Estimating with Speed, Accuracy, and Seamless Collaboration"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

One of the best things about On-Screen Takeoff (OST) is how it streamlines the estimating process by allowing users to work directly on digital plans, eliminating the need for printed drawings and creating a paperless workflow. This not only saves time but also reduces costs associated with handling physical documents. OST is known for its speed and efficiency, offering tools like auto-count for symbols and easy area or linear measurements, which significantly cut down repetitive tasks. Accuracy is another major advantage, as digital takeoffs minimize human error and can integrate with cost databases for precise quantity-to-cost mapping. Additionally, OST works seamlessly with estimating software such as Quick Bid, ensuring a smooth transition from takeoff to pricing without duplicating data entry. When drawings are revised, OST makes it simple to overlay changes and quickly identify differences, saving time compared to manual methods. Finally, its collaboration features allow multiple team members to access and review takeoffs, and cloud-based options enable remote work and sharing, making it a versatile tool for modern construction projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

While On-Screen Takeoff (OST) offers many advantages, there are areas where it could be improved to enhance user experience and efficiency. One common concern is that the software can feel somewhat dated compared to newer, more modern platforms, particularly in terms of its user interface and overall design. The learning curve can also be steep for new users, as the system is feature-rich but not always intuitive, requiring significant training to use effectively. Another area for improvement is performance with very large or complex drawing files, where OST can sometimes lag or slow down, impacting productivity. Integration with other project management and estimating tools, while available, could be more seamless and flexible to accommodate a wider range of workflows. Additionally, cloud functionality and collaboration features are not as robust as some competitors, which limits real-time teamwork and remote accessibility. Finally, pricing can be a drawback for smaller firms, as OST is often considered expensive compared to alternatives that offer similar capabilities at a lower cost. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your experience with OST. It’s great to hear how working directly on digital plans, using tools like auto‑count and fast area/linear measurements, and connecting with Quick Bid are helping you move from takeoff to pricing more quickly and accurately. We’re especially glad that plan overlays, version comparison, and the ability to keep a full digital record are making your estimating workflow more efficient and transparent.

You’ve also highlighted several areas where we can improve. OST is a very feature‑rich application, and that can make the interface feel dated and the learning curve steeper than we’d like, especially on very large or complex drawing files where performance can lag. Our product team is actively investing in our next takeoff solution, planned for 2026, with a modernized design, simpler onboarding, and native multi‑user collaboration to make day‑to‑day use feel lighter and more intuitive. At the same time, we’re continuing to refine performance and integrations in the current OST experience so it fits more seamlessly into different estimating and project‑management workflows. We appreciate your candid feedback on usability, collaboration, and cost. This feedback plays a direct role in how we prioritize improvements moving forward.

"Customizable and Accurate, But Needs Smoother File Management"
What do you like best about On-Screen Takeoff®?

I appreciate how you can customize your database for particular trades, and I find the takeoff features especially useful for diving deeper into the details of each project, which helps achieve greater accuracy. As a carpentry estimator, I benefit from the many functions that simplify my work and enable me to virtually construct the house or building within OST. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about On-Screen Takeoff®?

I can't say for certain whether this feature exists, but having quick links automatically added when you upload files would be extremely helpful. It would also be great if the system could read the page names and rename the files accordingly after upload, so users wouldn't have to do it manually. I find that customer support is always available and never lets me down when needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kelsey Erhart of On-Screen Takeoff®

Thank you for sharing how you use OST to customize your database for carpentry and virtually “build” the house or building as you estimate - that’s exactly the kind of detailed, trade‑specific workflow we want to support. It’s also great to hear that our customer support team has been there for you when you need them.

Your ideas around quick links and automatic page naming are spot on. Today, OST includes tools to speed up page naming and navigation, but there’s more we can do to streamline that setup so links and names require less manual work after upload. Our product team is actively working on enhancements to automate link creation and deliver a better auto‑naming experience in our next takeoff solution, so your feedback is directly aligned with where we’re headed. Thank you for calling this out - inputs like yours help us focus on the features that will save estimators the most time.
