## Codeanywhere Reviews
 ### 1. Good service until 2022. Then the service becomes very unreliable.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2023

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

The ability to put up a container and code fast.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

After 2022, the service is very unreliable. Any attempts to ask for support won't be resolved until days later. This is not good if you have a business that is depending on CodeAnywhere containers being up - since they can be down for days with no reason and zero support.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It used to help me in setting up an online service and get a business idea rolling fast. However, that's not the case anymore after 2022.

 ### 2. Easy and Clean

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jimmy L. | S, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

User interface is friendly. Easy to find the things I need.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Login should automatically bring me to IDE and don't the settings page.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the name suggest, I can code anywhere with any device. It can be powerful if there's an offline function where code will be updated once connected to the internet

 ### 3. The Best IDE I've used for my development work and managing servers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adrian V. | Product Manager/Tech Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

I love the legacy IDE and have been using it for more than two years. I use it to manage my servers on Azure/AWS and work on the code directly in the containers

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Recently they took away the shortcut to the legacy IDE; it used to be easy to access the moment I logged in to my account. But in recent updates, it has gotten more difficult to access the legacy IDE directly. Dev/Product Team, please bring back the shortcut to the IDE and please do not remove the legacy IDE as one your features.

Updates: Dev/Product Team brought back the shortcut! Thanks team!

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As I have multiple workstations, one at work and one at home, I can easily continue where I left off (coding/development) whether I'm working from Office/Work. I can also work on my projects on my iPad.

 ### 4. Great! Most of the time

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

Code Anywhere has been a great tool in helping me organize projects and manage client websites. Editing is quick and easy, and I can log in from anywhere to make updates

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

There are occasional bugs that prevent me from editing or saving any work. When this occurs, it's usually for about 30 minutes. Although rare, it is annoying. More customization would be nice too, for example, when double-clicking a variable in PHP (Ex: $my_name), I'd like to be able to choose in my settings whether or not to highlight the $. This would save time.

**Recommendations to others considering Codeanywhere:**

I love it!

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I manage several client websites almost exclusively through Code Anywhere. It allows me to quickly and easy make changes, and then go back to the website and refresh. As a developer, constant changing, saving, and refreshing is needed. It's nice to not have to worry about uploading via FTP every time.

 ### 5. Solution for remote development work with restricted access by IP-address

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dirk V. | GDPR Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

One of my clients has restricted access to their server on IP-address. As I work more than 50% of my time remotely, Codeanywhere is the solution. I once gave all IP-addresses of Codeanywhere to IT-security and now I can work everywhere. This is what I like best. But also development on my iPad. I did not find any other solution that permits me to be a developer in PHP on my iPad. The editor is great and I like the SFTP direct connections to my sources.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

The price. For the Freelancer Plan with SFTP-connections, I pay $8 * 12 = $96 / year. It is too expensive for me but I did not find an alternative as good as Codeanywhere.

**Recommendations to others considering Codeanywhere:**

there is no better solution for remote workers that want to code

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PHP development while working remotely.
I like the possibility to work on my iPad so that I can make quick edits in the PHP-code when needed or in case of a bug.

 ### 6. Easy to use, functional, cloud development environment

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** B. Mark E. | Digital Business Manager – R&D, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

It's super easy for me to connect Codeanywhere to Digital Ocean servers, so I can spin up a development environment and start deploying resources in minutes. The interface of Codeanywhere makes it easy to connect to the server, pull the code from GitHub, edit and deploy, all in my browser. The low cost means I'm not stressed about extra layers. Instead, I get to focus on development.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Some elements of the UI can feel a bit clunky, but that's generally not the case.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Codeanywhere for fast prototyping of web applications I develop on Digital Ocean. Because I have my SSH keys saved, I can spin up the server and deploy and execute code in minutes. It's awesome that I have the console and IDE in the same window for my development server, and I can switch between my laptop while I'm watching TV and my desktop for focus, all without missing a beat.

 ### 7. The best cloud IDE I've found, but increasingly falls behind VS Code

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joe D. | Full-stack developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

I can use it from a browser anywhere. I'm a Chromebook user so a cloud-based service is ideal for me. It's a pretty good basic code editor. It handles SFTP and SSH connections which is handy. I've tried other alternatives like Shift Edit but found them buggier (although CodeAnywhere has some bugs too).

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

I've started using VS Code in the past year (as my newer Chromebook can run Linux and Android apps). Seeing what a really good code editor can be, I increasingly see the limitations of CodeAnywhere. I'm still using it as it's handy for smaller projects where I can get away with the limitations, but less and less. It feels like it was a really innovative idea 5+ years ago, but the company hasn't invested in keeping it up to date.

I also have misgivings about the support and stability. There are also some random bugs and they don't seem to get fixed. And a year or two back there was a major outage -- the entire service didn't work (for a day or more I think). The company seemed to go into a bunker mentality and barely apologised or communicated what was happening and how quickly it would be solved. That was a big red flag for me, as up until that point I'd been reliant on CodeAnywhere for my work, and it's pushed me to look elsewhere. I'm not convinced how customer-centric they really are as a company.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to code from anywhere I have a laptop and an internet connection, without needing extra software beyond a browser.

 ### 8. Makes coding easy!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heather C. | Web Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

My favorite thing about Codeanywhere is that it has version history - it has saved me so many times! I also love the code formatting, autocomplete, and just how easy it is to use.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

My only complaint is that the checkbox to remain signed in doesn't really work - if I keep the browser tab open and come back the next day, it does make me sign in again. But that is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, since it makes my life easier!

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a programmer, and I love coding, but the backend stuff is not my thing. With Codeanywhere, my project manager just sends me an environment to work in and everything is all set up already. I don't have to set up a test environment myself or any of that confusing stuff. I can just focus on coding!

 ### 9. Croatia-based IDE operates exactly as you think it would

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

I appreciate cloud IDEs for team collaboration.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

"Always on" servers shut off in the middle of code edits, resulting in lost code. Custom domains do not work over HTTPS via Cloudflare (or possibly at all). The editor is slow and clunky, even though they are now trying to emulate VS Code's UI. If you click into a project from the dashboard, it dumps you into whatever project you had open in the IDE last, which means wasted time as you discover you are editing the wrong project. Service is sometimes rude, combative, or unresponsive depending on who you get -- it seems set up to trap people into no refund periods even if due to their non-responsiveness. As soon as you mention "refund," expect to get lost in support hell and be prepared to contest the charge. Not worth the headache.

**Recommendations to others considering Codeanywhere:**

Don't. Support is selective at best, non-existent at worst. Codeanywhere's offerings are deceptive and borderline fraudulent. They will tell you to wait for someone to get back to you regarding an advertised discount on your existing plan, then refuse to budge when they bill you full price and throw their user acceptance agreement up as an excuse for no refunds. Your service isn't working, and you are not satisfied? No refund, here's our service agreement. I'm contesting my second charge from them in two years and cutting them loose. I'm going back to AWS Cloud 9.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to provide staged sites for clients.

 ### 10. Amazing development Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ramssés G. | Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

We're able to manage all stuff together, my containers, connections, and IDE, all this in a collaborative way.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

There are few times the pair programming (collaborative development) breaks down.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can code anywhere literally; we don't need to carry on our computers and take one with an internet connection.

 ### 11. Long-term subscriber, still love it

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kasia G. | Owner & Principal, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

I can access my resources from anywhere with an internet connection. The editor itself is very intuitive and well-designed.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Nothing! It's a great service and I plan to continue my subscription.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Makes live editing and development easy. No constant FTPing of files.

 ### 12. Very capable IDE

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan O. | Senor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

There are indeed other online IDEs, but I love that I can spin up an environment exactly to my specifications with CodeAnywhere.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

There's have been times when I've had a hard time figuring out how to set things up.

**Recommendations to others considering Codeanywhere:**

It's worth it. The only hiccup one might experience is in connecting to another environment if that environment exists behind a firewall - and I suspect there's probably a solution in that case as well. The technical support that CodeAnywhere provides is fast and helpful.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me the portability of my work is essential, and CodeAnywhere is the perfect answer to that problem. No matter what kind of computer or location I work from, everything remains the same when I code.

 ### 13. Nice improvements in service offering, support still slow

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kathy D. | CEO and Lead Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

The recent updates to the backend editor were quite nice.... I've been waiting for years to have them support copy/paste in the ssh terminal. So that's a plus. You can use any vs code extension now.. and the containers serve pretty fast sites.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Support is slow and always has been. I've been waiting for 2 weeks now for a fix on an issue and that's not an atypical wait time based on my other attempts at contacting support. Plus, they have an automatic support desk that attempts to close issues after not hearing from you for 48 hours. That would be acceptable if they were waiting on a response from me, but it's always the other way around so it feels kinda insulting to get these automatic messages.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Local website development at not-local speeds. I haven't found a local web server that runs fast, so it's been handy to use Codeanywhere to work on website stuff and not need my machine to run a web server. The codeanywhere sites run dramatically faster. Plus, they have the benefit of being publicly visible in case I need to share what I am working on.

 ### 14. Solid online IDE

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

I love being able to select any file via a lot of remote connection options, make adjustments to the HTML, CSS, JS or PHP, save, and see it active immediately. It's a simple enough process, but it makes all the difference. The price has also always been very reasonable, and I've used it for both personal and professional projects.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Since the recent redesign and the addition of containers, I've found it a little bit more confusing. I generally have only used it for light-duty purposes. Before I my only greivence was that I had to spin up a container to compile SASS. Now it's all containers and I'm unclear on if I still have to do the Grunt install, etc. If you're looking for a simpler IDE that preprocesses CodeTasty (despite the awful name) does a good job. Their interface is counter-intuitive, but functional.

**Recommendations to others considering Codeanywhere:**

As Codeanywhere has implemented new features and reorganized to take better advantage of stacks and images, it presents a more robust environment for proper development. If you're looking for a simple online code editor, it might be more than you need.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been able manage a dozen sites from a Chromebook, desktop and laptop wherever I am. I'm not tied to a specific machine or network.

 ### 15. Best cloud based code editor there is.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter D. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

The fact I can edit my code from any device is brilliant. Sometimes when I'm not in front of my computer and a client needs an urgent change, I can use the app to make edits. The beautify function for CSS is awesome and helps to keep code nice and clean.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Limits on FTP Connections are a little frustrating. It would be great if we were able to pay per connection or in groups of 10 connections, rather than having to go up to the next plan.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to edit multiple files across multiple sites without having to create new connections every time (like you would need to with Filezilla etc) helps me to save time...lots of time.

 ### 16. Good Product but pivoted to another purpose

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Noah H. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

The feature I liked was, what is now called, the Legacy Codeanywhere IDE. The Legacy IDE offers you the capability to connect to a host to work on code and access tunnels.

They are pivoting to a container-based environment workspace using VSCode as a core building block of the UI where you can still able to access connections configured.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

It does have an issue every once in a while where the page won't load and you have to clear the browser cache.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows for working on Projects without the need to manually install extra software for some minor work.

 ### 17. better than jetbrains

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** caleb s. | software engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

I have been using the legacy IDE for a couple of years. It does everything I need and nothing I don't. It's the speediest way to have a portable dev environment for a traditional php app where I access the server via ftp.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

The emphasis on the new container system is not something I need or understand-- I would like to be able to set my account to go right to the legacy IDE when I sign in.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

my app is old-fashioned, i don't use build tools or git or pipelines, i just want a text editior with code completion and direct ftp upload and thats what this does.

 ### 18. Your coding environment... anywhere!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sabina D. | Web developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

You can log in and access your codebase also when you are not using your own device. I travel a lot, and most of the time I can't bring my laptop with me, or I use someone else computer, and with Codeanywhere I can work on my code with no hassle. I just access the platform and work on my FTP or git codebases

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Nothing. Everything runs as it should, and prices are affordable.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can code from any computer, and I don't need to configure everything whenever I am on a new device. I save time, and when I travel, I don't need to bring my laptop with me.

 ### 19. All I need and more

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marc R. | Developers, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

Easy to use, Cheap, Powerfull enviroment.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Getting inside IDE, now is more dificult.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used to program in my computer since I have migrated to codeanywhere. Now accessing my projects can be done from any dispositive, which has improved my productivity a lot. I can make small changes in the very moment that my client asks me to do.
With its robust environment, coding is much easier. Having access to all my projects and files is fast. It has an outstanding amount of resources for all the programming languages I use. In addition, I can test my pages more securely.

 ### 20. CodeAnywhere Undergrad Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alejandro M. | Instructor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

I love that you can edit files directly on a server and see the changes in real-time.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

I wish it were easier to get to the legacy editor as it is the version I vastly prefer!

**Recommendations to others considering Codeanywhere:**

Great IDE for everyday use.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using CodeAnywhere as a part of my undergraduate web design class. It allows me to edit and save files on my class server easily. The benefits are an easy-to-use interface along with tools to help clean up my code.

 ### 21. Simple, fast, and accessible.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Grant W. | コミュニティマネージャー, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

Codeanywhere is great for helping to keep you connected to your development environments from anywhere, be it a different desktop, mobile device, or around the globe. Just log in, and you're all set to get to work.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

While new designs help add more power-user features, it does mean it can take longer to get right in and start coding. No longer are you able to log in and have your directory ready to go.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ensuring an ease of access to test and production servers from anywhere, with easy and quick code deployment, validation, and testing.

 ### 22. Excellent, always reachable, IDE

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick T. | l, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

The fact that I have an IDE available anywhere I am. On my phone, on a ny browser.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Sometimes it can be a bit slow or have minor glitches

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to connect it via ftp to my servers and fix any issue at any time. That frees me up to not have to bring a laptop with me everywhere I go or worry about having wifi nearby

 ### 23. Useful tool - NAME SPEAK FOR THE PRODUCT

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

The most important is that you can use the tool anywhere from your Browser. I use it for FTP connection to my PHP sites and coding when I do not have my local editor. You can also use it when the FTP is disabled on the network.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Honestly nothing! It might be nice to have some extra features like autocomplete for some keywords and code help. But it is not needed.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sometimes I need to log in and change PHP code from the network where the company policies prohibit FTP connection. Codeanywhere perfectly solves the issue.

 ### 24. Great web application! I'm using it for about four years now,it's very convenient and simple to use!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roman L. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

The simplicity of use, ability to divide the screen. To store connections to my servers.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

Maybe the "Find in files" feature because it didn't work on my FTP connections.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used it to create my web application from the beginning and now using it to maintain it.

 ### 25. An IDE with unique capabilities

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

That I can have my own servers, connect to them via SSH. Configuration is flexible. I can install everything I want.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

There are no containers for Perl developers, so You need to install everything by hand. It would useful to have an environment with perl/perlbrew and Mojo framework.

**Recommendations to others considering Codeanywhere:**

It does worth it to give it a try. You can find coupons on sites and can get good discounts for the Pro subscription. I bought a lifetime license from StackSocial.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can use it as a testing/development environment for any project I have.

**What do you like best about Codeanywhere?**

As a web-based code-editor and FTP client, CodeAnywhere allows me to edit my websites on the go, including from my Chromebook.

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

They have a new interface, but I'm locked into the legacy version, which requires an additional step to access.

Without a premium account, functionality is pretty limited—worth the upgrade but worth noting.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ability to use any operating system for development and having easy access to my code in a functional IDE.

 ### 28. So Handy!

**What do you dislike about Codeanywhere?**

I really have not found anything I dislike after using it for several years.

**Recommendations to others considering Codeanywhere:**

It's so easy to use. There's not a good reason not to!

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Small fixes for clients. The ability to fix them anywhere!

Nothing so far - the platform is great.

**What problems is Codeanywhere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Great for letting non-technical people (e.g. account managers) make small amends to content on projects where a CMS/database isn't used for one reason or another.

 ### 31. Complete replacement for local IDE

- Collaboration with other developers

 ### 32. Solid platform, but it does more than you might think
