## About Civil Designer
⸻ Civil Designer is a top civil infrastructure design software providing an integrated, all-in-one suite for the planning, design, and analysis of complex civil engineering projects. The software combines bulk earthworks, roads and highways, surface drainage, wastewater systems, and pressurised water network design into a single, unified application. By consolidating multiple disciplines into one platform, Civil Designer helps engineering teams streamline workflows, reduce errors, and improve overall project efficiency. Civil Designer is built around a model-based civil design approach, enabling engineers to create intelligent 3D models from the earliest stages of a project. This allows for early clash detection between infrastructure elements, helping teams identify and resolve potential conflicts before construction begins. As a result, design rework is reduced, coordination between disciplines is improved, and project risks are minimised. Often evaluated as a strong alternative to Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads, Civil Designer offers powerful functionality while maintaining flexibility and ease of use. Its comprehensive toolset makes it suitable for a wide range of infrastructure projects, including transportation corridors, land development, municipal services, and utility networks. The software supports Open BIM workflows, ensuring effective collaboration and data exchange across multidisciplinary teams. With advanced compatibility for IFC, LandXML, and 3D DWG formats, Civil Designer enables accurate interoperability throughout the project lifecycle. These open standards help future-proof designs and support informed decision-making. By delivering integrated infrastructure design tools within a single application, Civil Designer empowers civil engineers to produce higher-quality designs faster, making it a reliable and scalable solution for modern civil infrastructure projects. ## Civil Designer Reviews
  ### 1. Seamless Design, from Alignments to 3D visualization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** J L. | Final Year Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Civil Designer?**

I was honestly blown away by how much Civil Designer can do. From handling layerworks, alignments, drainage, and terrain data, to checking speed limits and design specs, it takes care of the whole road design process. What I really appreciated was how it even calculates cut and fill volumes for you, and lets you see your design in 2D or 3D with road markings and signs. It makes the project feel real. Tasks that would have taken me days by hand were finished in just a few hours. The help guides are clear too, which made learning the software much easier. What I like most is how everything you need is built into one program, instead of jumping between different tools.

**What do you dislike about Civil Designer?**

For a beginner, the learning curve is very steep. So proper training is needed, and thank you to the civil designer team who gave classes and notes on how to use the software. The software is quite demanding on the computer, but this is from a student's perspective. I am confident that there will be no issues once you have adequate computers in the industry. Overall, there was nothing that I disliked about Civil Designer.

**What problems is Civil Designer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Civil Designer saves me time by combining everything I need for road design into one program. Instead of doing manual calculations for drainage, cut and fill, or alignments, I can finish the work in hours. It made my student project more efficient and gave a closer feel to real industry practice.

  ### 2. An easy to use, multi-discipline tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rachel B. | Civil Engineering Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Civil Designer?**

What I liked most about Civil Designer as a first-time user was its integration across modules — being able to move easily between road design, drainage, earthworks, and hydraulics without switching environments. The cross-sectioning and stormwater tools were particularly helpful for the project I worked on, and the fly-throughs and visuals added an immersive touch that I really liked. I also appreciated the logical workflow, clean interface, and helpful support features, all of which made the overall experience feel polished and professional.

**What do you dislike about Civil Designer?**

There are a few limitations — for instance, the undo (Ctrl + Z) function didn't always behave consistently across modules, sometimes not working, or undoing more steps than intended. Another aspect that took some getting used to was the sheet file creation process, which felt a little less intuitive at first but became clearer after spending some time exploring it.

**What problems is Civil Designer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a 4th year BEng student working on a road design project, Civil Designer helped me bring together several aspects of the design process in one place, from setting out road geometry and cross-sections to analysing stormwater flow and drainage requirements. It essentially solved the challenge of having to use multiple programs for different tasks, which made my workflow much smoother and more efficient. For me, it was also a great introduction to professional civil engineering software, giving practical insight into how road and stormwater designs are developed and assessed in real projects

  ### 3. Extremely satisfied client.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oliver R. | Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Civil Designer?**

An excellent support team that is always ready and willing to assist. Constant upgrading to the software to keep valid and ahead of the curve

**What do you dislike about Civil Designer?**

I have worked with it for many years and to date I am yet to find something I dislike. This work and work well

**What problems is Civil Designer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Civil designer is a multi faceted civil engineering related software, road, survey and terrain, water and all integrate beautifully with each other.

  ### 4. Civil Designer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Civil Designer?**

Civil Designer is a practical and easy to use civil infrastructure software that combines roads, earthworks, stormwater, wastewater, and potable water design in a single model. It brings together terrain modeling, alignment and corridor tools, pipe network analysis and automated quantities, so you spend less time exporting and fixing formats.

**What do you dislike about Civil Designer?**

No cross platform support and no multi user versioning

**What problems is Civil Designer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Civil Designer is a great fit when you need one model to drive roads, earthworks, and wet services on township layouts, municipal rehab projects, long rural corridors, drainage, sewer and water all update together with quantities and long-section outputs. It’s less appropriate for bridges or rail geometry, coastal hydraulics, advanced geotech or structural design. These are better handled in specialist tools.

  ### 5. Great learning experience using Civil Designer for my first road design project.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shyquita M. | Final Year Civil Engineering Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Civil Designer?**

I really like how everything for road design is in one program. Once you get used to it, it’s easy to move between the terrain, alignment, and layer works without having to switch software.

**What do you dislike about Civil Designer?**

At first, it was quite hard to learn how to use all the tools and menus. The layout can feel overwhelming for beginners, but after some practice it gets much better.

**What problems is Civil Designer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Civil Designer helps solve the problem of having to use many different programs for one road design project. It combines everything (from terrain modeling to alignment and layer works) in one place, which saves a lot of time and makes the whole process easier to manage.

The stormwater, water and sewer modules can be improved. I would like to have more flexibility with importing/entering data into module databases for asset management purposes (condition ratings, structure images etc).
Sheetfile creation and setting of information to be displayed is not simple

**Recommendations to others considering Civil Designer:**

There are many video tutorials available and regular webinars demonstrating new features - watch them.
Do a cost comparison of Civil Designer against other design software products. The cost of purchase and yearly support for Civil Designer is extremely competitive

**What problems is Civil Designer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Apart from carrying out new designs, Civil Designer is useful for analyzing existing systems and determining service constraints.
