I consider this the best app to create and save all your citations and references for your projects. You can export them in APA, MLA, and many more. It has search engines for books, websites, articles, podcasts, music, online videos, images and more. You can also create the citations by scanning the barcode in the book! What I like the most about this app is that you can separate the citations on different folders, depending on the project or paper you are working on. With the free version, you can copy/paste your references to your document. I've been using it since I started grad school and it has helped me a lot! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I entered the doi of an article from the Journal of Medical Ethics, and it couldn't find the article. So I had to enter it manually.

Then I tried to export the reference to Word. But this isn't free. This wasn't indicated on any of the other reviews on this website (G2), and I find it a major drawback! Okay it's nice to have all my references for a particular project in one place, but I need to be able to use the references in papers I write, and I'd assumed this'd be a free service. I won't be using Citationsy again Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Citationsy is fabulous for a host of reasons, especially because it is free. Citationsy is online and connected to your account, so you can access it from any computer once you log in, unlike some other citation managers that are tied to your desktop. You can create folders for each project, where citations can be kept in one place for each different project you have going. It does a great job of pulling information from the web or from publications given the title of the reference you are using. Perhaps most importantly, even though it is free it does not bombard you with ads the way some other free citation managers do, which essentially renders them useless. Citationsy has become my go-to citation manager (often more than the traditional ones!). References can easily be copied all at once for pasting into the document where they are needed as a bibliography. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Overall, Citationsy is great. I have had a few problems trying to get an exact reference, but when all else fails they can be inserted manually. Occasionally there is some inconsistency between similar reference types (like websites or articles from the same journal) which then need a bit of editing afterward. I also would like to more easily be able to drag references from one folder into another when there is an overlap between projects. If you have access to the doi, it's easy to copy and paste that into the search and your journal article will come up in the style you've chosen. This was really helpful as an extra way to go over my work late at night before a deadline. There are a wealth of styles available and ways to cite images, podcasts, etc. I love this tool.
