## Castor Reviews
  ### 1. Nicest database I use day-to-day

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jessica F. | Research Nurse, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Castor?**

I find this database incredibly easy to use and pleasing on the eye. The lay out is very straightforward and can be navigated very easily. Compared to other database I use (and this is a lot), I find this is the easiest to make sure the data I have is correctly transferred and inputted into the database.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Very occasionally the data can take a while to save but other than this. Also, the query management page was at first a bit confusing to use and wasn't clear when a query had been fully resolved. I have now got used to this, however it look a while to work out where the pending queries were and if they'd been answered/ closed. Thank you.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clear data input, easy to use, clear layout - very user friendly, regardless at whatever level of experience.

  ### 2. Site is clean and not too busy.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Susan M. | Senior clinical research nurse and study coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Castor?**

The questions are numbered according to the work sheets. Data collection progress list is very clear.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

In each visit the concomitant medication and adverse events are green in each visit even when nothing has been documented. I sometimes get mixed up and think I have entered data when I have not.
It would be better leaving it white and you can go in and confirm no changes. This would be helpful as a double check during a visit.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Changed the listing of drugs to appear with the medication name. This was really helpful when reviewing any changes.
Just a thought... If a patients drug is discontinued, it changes slightly to highlight only the ones in use.

  ### 3. Used CASTOR for first time in a Clinical Trial

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Castor?**

I liked how it flags missing entries. Normally I have used paper CRF and it's always easy to miss something or not realise some data (like med hx, AE follows etc) need future review. Castor really helps with this. Also the "paper trail" for changes in CRF entry are really good for documentation accountability and maintaining GCP. I also like how you can build surveys etc in and that these can be completed via a link sent to participants. These data is then sent to CASTOR and then entered into the CRF data.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

It may have just been a setting the project manager implemented, but when entering data sometimes if you are not fast enough the system takes it as complete then if you add something else its considered a data change and then add report is made that info has been changed. That was a bit annoying.

Not sure if it's a function just missed in my current project, but if you could gave alerts as to participant visit schedules and auto calculation of times between visits for longitudinal studies that might also be good

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Documentation trail record keeping is better and highlighting when there has been something missed accidentally is very useful in RCT management

  ### 4. A user friendly database

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nelson O. | Pijnspecialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Castor?**

Castor is a very easy to use databse. It is very simple to reach out and you can use it from evry computer without installing an app. During our study I used it several times a day. There is no need for an intensive learning of implementation, because it is so easy to use and to understand.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Probably it would be beter for the user if the login coudl stay londer open. I know that because of the privacy you don't want to leave the site to long open but if you work as clinician and you have to enter data parallel to your clinical work, would make it easier.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No idea.

  ### 5. Castor is best for collecting data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anoosha T. | Research Fellow, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Castor?**

It is very well organized. It captures data in a structured format.

We are collecting data for a Gall Bladder Cancer Registry.

  ### 6. Excellent platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Castor?**

Castor has been the most user friendly platform I have used for data entry.
It is clear and succinct and is easy to navigate. It allows me to enter data and respond quicker to queries.
The texts are easy to read and looks less 'busy' and clinical compared to other platforms.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

It is not used for every research project.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using the Castor edc for research studies

  ### 7. Clear view of data completion progression

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Castor?**

The fact that it is intuitive and very easy to see how data completion is progressing.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

The handling of queries doesn't seem very smooth to me. We respond to a request, but after that, there's still a step needed to indicate that we've responded (like selecting resolved, etc.).

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organized electronic data collection. Simplification and saving on paper resources.

  ### 8. Simple to use and ergonomic

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Castor?**

Castor is easy to use and readable. A person not trained in Castor can very well use it.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

For better reading of the eCRF, it would also be necessary to remove the tabs of the groups not concerned by the patient.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The collection of data within a research protocol

  ### 9. The Caster platform

  ### 11. Castor was extremely user friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2024

**What do you like best about Castor?**

I found entering data on castor extremely easy.
The automatic queires generated are easy to respond to and can edit orignal data with ease.
I like the % completed on each tab.
I liked the calendar option for selecting dates rather than inputting manually.
I liked that it does not generate all the data fields, only the fields that are necessary depending on the previous answers.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Can't think of any areas for improvement. Really like using the system in comparison to others.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Castor allows us to easily enter and maintain data quality and accuracy for research.

**Official Response from Kevin Thornton:**

> Thanks very much for taking the time to review Castor. We're delighted that you've had a good experience with our platform and are willing to share that publicly.

  ### 12. Castor EDC in Clinical Trial Data Management

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Suvathi B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

Castor EDC is easy to use and learn quickly. We can contact customer support easily and their response time very quick. Also, the role level permission feature for users is awesome. The email alert and survey feature also helps users in the clinical trial data management.
Regarding the queries, it is easy to filter the closed, open, new queries. The EDC also displays the overall graph of study data which is very useful for study level tracking. And, it has separate page for repeating forms which is easy for integration.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

The form level export is not possible in Castor EDC. Eventhough, we have options to export data for selected forms, the study export has all the data.
The SDV level page in export is not appropriate. It does not show the exact SDV status of each form/field. Also, it does not have audit trial export.
360 degree query report is not possible to export in Castor which is difficult for Data Manager to analyse study data.
Also, it does not have feature for DM marking for Data Manager and Safety marking for Medical Monitor.
Also, it does not have feature to raise queries to specific role.
Single person cannot have two study roles.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clinical Trial Data Management

**Official Response from Cole Egan:**

> Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback on Castor EDC. We're delighted to hear about our platform's ease of use, quick support response times and awesome role-level permissions.

We acknowledge your concerns about our export functionalities and are excited to update you on our progress. We've been actively working on redesigning our exports (we don't have form level export now, let's stick to our current export) to enable domain-based exporting, and following our June update, SDV has been enhanced to be at field level. We're also in the process of planning an SDV export feature to further streamline your data management activities. In terms of audit-trail exports, we've made significant improvements making it more efficient and now available on-demand for our Professional Services and Customer Support teams.

Looking ahead, we are excited to share that in the upcoming year, we will be placing a stronger emphasis on patient-focused developments. Watch this space!

Your feedback is essential in guiding our efforts so we are grateful for that. Thank you for your ongoing support.
The Castor Team.

  ### 13. Castor is the best electronic clinical data management platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** hala k. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

It is a very clear and usefull way to create a database, get notifications and fill it in by centers all over the world. I also worked with other platforms in which you have to work at least twice as much to get the same result. I would advice castor to everyone. Also, the support system is great when you have troubles (and the courses too!)

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Actually I cannot find anything I dislike of castor. The only thing they could potencially to better is make a good Q&A, so you do not have to ask everything but can look it up easely. Ofcourse in case of questions that come up a lot.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The creation of a database is very easy, especially when you follow the course seriously. Also the use by others is so easy and straightforward that they hardly ask questions and fill the database more complete.

  ### 14. Easy to use and self explanatory!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Beckie W. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

CASTOR has been my favourite trial database to use, it's very self explanatory and easy to click through the patient's journey. Each entry autosaves so you don't have to keep inputting passwords. Only once had an issue with the site crashing. It has been simple to speak with someone to rectify any issues too.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Sometimes it times out but doesn't tell you it's timed out until after you have inputted data. You don't get email notifications when there is a query on a piece of data, you just see it on the database when you login.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use CASTOR for data entry capture for a clinical trial

  ### 15. Castor is very user friendly, easy to use and accessible.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bethany S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

Clear and consise
I like how it shows the progress of your participant and what is outstanding
All participants can be found in one place
Easy to use

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

It logs out after not too long and if I am looking at patient notes at the same time, I can lose my place

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Help log all partiicpants we recruit for our trial PROTEUS, randmoise patients to either arm, complete CRF's on the databse, withdrawing patients from the study.

This helps being consisent with each patient and all information is held centerally and confidentially.

  ### 16. My first pleasant experience with a database for studies

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joos v. | Student Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

Castor is very well organized, it works quickly and when you only need specific data it is easy to extract this from the database. Furthermore, the design is very pleasant to look at.
I am still in my master's but still have worked with a few studies and all used just the standard data drive bases like Google or Microsoft. I liked how professional castor is and it really feels like a safe foolproof system to work with.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

There is one small thing I dislike and this is the colours that are used for saving data, which is due to myself being colorblind. Making it hard to see the change from orange to green. One other thing I had to work out in the beginning was how to extract the data, but this was a rather quick learning thing. In general, I do not have any complaints regarding the use of Castor.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It avoids the loss of data during our study, and helps us to double save our data next to the paperwork.
It further helps with keeping our data organized, easy accessible and gives us a good overview of where participants are in their intervention trial.

  ### 17. Just what the Doctor ordered

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Debbie M. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

It is a very easy and intuitive system to use. No programming skills are required and help is always on hand if needed.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

I honestly can't say there was anything that I disliked - other than being logged out frequently when entering data.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows data to be captured using GCP guidelines and then analysed in a variety of formats. It is flexible and easy to use and doesn't require much training for users in all areas, whether it is creating the data capture pages, issuing passwords or even data entry.

  ### 18. Castor has been a pleasure to work with

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

When we reviewed various EDC companies to partner with on our industry randomized controlled trial, Castor was an easy first choice. They provided exactly the type of services we needed, without any of the bells and whistles that were unnecessary and created bloated price points.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

There is some limited functionality that has presented some challenges. There was a specific survey form for which Castor did not have a template format that would allow us to collect the data we need in the most user friendly format. This has actually resulted in some changes needing to be made mid-data collection. Also, it would be great if the partnership came with the same level of support once the study had launched that we had during implementation - the service and support we received when setting up the study was amazing! Only wish we could have kept that level through the rest of our partnership.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Castor allows us an easy way to capture our data collection for our clinical trial, in an automated fashion. Most of what appealed to us was that Castor would not only serve as an EDC system, but would allow us to automate sending out surveys on an automated schedule greatly reducing the workflow burden on our research study staff.

  ### 19. Extremely useful and organised tool for clinical research!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Natalie F. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

The customisability of this programme was the most useful element. The database matched exactly what was needed for my first project as PI and made data collection so easy! It's a really intuative system and was vital in collecting my evaluation data.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

No downsides about the system at all! I cannot fault it

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed a system that could colate pretty large amaounts of repetitive data and store them logically for review. The customizability was incredible and we had it laid out exactly as needed, nothing was comprmised on.

  ### 20. Very simple to use, reliable, stable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

What I like most is that you can create the forms with Castor yourself without needing a programmer's help. The data export allows for immediate further processing with common statistical programs. The functions such as good clinical practice and data protection are necessary for the registration of the studies.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Castor is very powerful and offers many functions that go beyond the basics. For some of them, program examples can be found in forums, but overall a more detailed manual would be desirable. Even after years of use, I still lack an overview of all the functions Castor offers.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most important feature is that the collected data can be used immediately for export to common statistical programs without any cleaning or further processing. Ensuring data protection functions and Good Clinical Practice are other very important advantages of Castor.

  ### 21. Castor EDC for Clinical Trials

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

The ability to have screening, eConsent, case report forms, and a study database on a centralized platform. Castor can aslo automate email reminders to participants and automate a schedule for emailing study questionnnaries.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Overall, my experience was positive with the Castor Implementation team. I do truly appreciate the time and consideration that was given to me in the process. I feel like every meeting/call that I had, I learned something. It was all helpful. Having said that, I do believe the learning curve is steep. In my experience, I did not use the Castor team to buildout the EDC, and I understand that using them would have made this process much smoother. Unfortunately it was not in the budget as that is an additional service. It was hard to scramble through the videos and apply them as a newbie and I know that this prolonged the EDC being complete. I do feel like there is something missing for the customers that do not pay Castor to do the EDC building. Maybe in the customer package there could be options to purchase tutoring sessions or pay by the hour tutoring for customers on smaller budgets. I understand that it may not be a common problem but I was just sharing my experience to provoke some thoughts.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Castor EDC reduced the paper trail that comes with performing a clinical trial. We were using multiple sites for this trial and having paper case report froms for each location would have been difficult to manage and very time consuming. Additionally, staying on top of the data monitoring duties was simpler and data was much easier to verify.

**Official Response from Cole Egan:**

> Thank you for your review! Glad to hear that you are taking advantage of our email reminder and automated scheduling features for your study questionnaires.

To offer assistance with future study builds, Castor now offers assisted build packages which include consulting time with one of our Clinical Implementation Specialists. Additionally, Solution Architect consulting can be purchased by the hour.

Improving the efficiency of the clinical trial process is our goal – thank you for sharing that Castor EDC has reduced your paper trail and simplified your monitoring process!

  ### 22. Excellent streamlined EDC system!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maria B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

Castor shows me the progress on each patient, which helps me to focus on the data that needs to be completed. It is not repetitive and its interface is user friendly.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Nothing that comes to mind! I haven't found any issues as a user.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CASTOR isn't solving a problem, it is capturing all the clinical data that I input.

  ### 23. Great way to conduct research according to Good Scientific Practice

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mental Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

Structured design for the entire study
Intuitive design
Possibility to directly calculate scores
Quality checks of the data during the data collection (such as, setting the numeric range for a field)
Dependencies to prevent impossible response options
Audit trail
Good customer support and quick responses to questions

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Takes a lot of time to transer a questionairre or interview into Castor. Would be better if would be a feature to automatically import a number of questions at once with a syntax.
Better tracking of the survey responses, sending a automatic reminder to the responder if answers are incomplete

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faciliting the research process and helping to adhere to good scientific practice

  ### 24. CastorEDC, the gold standard for study data management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Castor?**

CastorEDC demonstrates study data in an efficient way. The user-friendly interface makes it easy in use for professionals with various backgrounds. Exporting data from CastorEDC into different statistical programs proved no challenge at all.

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

Nothing to dislike! While I personally haven't made use of the Customer Support yet, I expect the quality of support to be in line with the other features of the system.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CastorEDC helps me greatly in my data collection and management. By allowing automatic importation of online surveys, hundreds of hours of work is saved.

  ### 25. Easy to use platform to store study data

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Castor?**

The option to create calculations. I calculated the amount of radioactivity injected in a patient, including half-life of the nuclide and everything to a specific time point. Very easy with Java Script and the answers on questions specifically related to Castor EDC online

**What do you dislike about Castor?**

The time it takes to load all my answers and to let me go on to the next field.
You are logged off by the system very quick and then you need your password again.

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The calculations of the radioacitivity in the patient, the storage of the amount of data in a safe place and the availability to everyone in the team. Also, that you can share your databases with others and give them restrictions.

**What do you like best about Castor?**

possibility to give orders to send questionnaires in the future

You need to understand how things work (eg finding completed questionnaires). Maybe that could be explained better in advance. Although this is not due to CASTOR itself....

**What problems is Castor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sending questionnaires to the patient.
All patient information in 1 place and ultimately also the results of the test in 1 place
