"All-in-One Tool for Organizing, Communicating, and Billing"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

Canopy acts as the main hub for running a tax firm, keeping your team and client work from scattering into chaos. It helps you organize everything by putting client docs, PDF editing, and task workflows into one spot—plus handy tools for pulling IRS transcripts. On the communication front, it cuts down on endless email tag by giving clients a sleek portal to upload files, sign forms, and get auto-reminded about missing documents. And when it comes to billing, it ties time tracking right into your projects, making it easy to send invoices and collect payments online without chasing people down. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The emails interface feels a bit clunky sometimes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A Reliable, User-Friendly Tax Practice Solution"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

What I like best about Canopy is how everything is in one place. It keeps client communication, document management, and workflow organized, which saves time and cuts down on stress. The interface is easy to use, and it actually feels like the software is working with you instead of against you. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

What I dislike about Canopy is that some features have a learning curve, especially when you’re first getting started. A few tools also feel a bit slower or less intuitive than they could be, but once you’re familiar with the system, it’s manageable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Secure, Modern Client Portal with Smooth Migration and Strong CRM Workflow"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

What I like most is the client portal experience. When we're pitching potential clients, being able to show them a secure, modern portal where they can collaborate, share documents, and sign agreements digitally makes us look like a much more sophisticated firm than we actually are. The engagement wizards with custom pricing and automated billing frequencies also help us eliminate scope creep before it becomes an issue. The integrated CRM and document management mean I don't have to chase down status updates from the ops team—I can see exactly where each client is in the pipeline, which helps me forecast revenue and attribute it back to specific marketing campaigns. The platform is cloud-native and the migration was surprisingly smooth, which is not something I expected from a tool that does this much. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The reporting and analytics capabilities could be more robust for someone in my role. I need to understand how our internal efficiency with the tool is translating into better client retention and faster deal cycles, but the built-in dashboards are more operationally focused than marketing-focused. We've had to build some of our own tracking to bridge that gap, which adds complexity. The AI features, specifically Canopy Coworker, are inconsistent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Canopy Consolidated Our Tools into One Cohesive System"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I love that Canopy helped us replace multiple software platforms and consolidate them into one cohesive system. Document storage, client portals, time/billing/project management were all in separate systems. Now we run them in one place! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Client messaging within the portals has taken a bit of getting used to for us. We’ve had to devise a few system “workarounds” so we can send messages to specific portal users, rather than to everyone associated with the client portal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Canopy Makes Us Look Modern and Professional in Every Client Walkthrough"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

From a marketing and demand gen standpoint, Canopy has been a surprisingly great asset. It's one thing for us to tell potential clients that we're modern and efficient, but Canopy lets us actually demonstrate it during the sales process. When I'm doing a walkthrough for a prospective customer, showing them how our team collaborates in the client portal and how quickly we can get documents signed with eSignatures is a major trust-builder. The ability to have a single, central system for client management, documents, and billing makes our operations look incredibly professional and organized, which directly helps convert free trial users into paying customers. What do you dislike about Canopy?

The biggest challenge for us has been getting the most out of the AI features, specifically Canopy Coworker. The promise is that it makes work simpler and faster, but in practice, it can be a bit inconsistent. Sometimes the drafted emails or document summaries need so much editing that it's almost easier to start from scratch. It feels like the AI is still learning the specific nuances of how we communicate and the specifics of the marketing industry. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Clean and organized practice management for document and client handling"
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

The client portal and the secure document management setup are standout features. Requesting audit documents, tax schedules, and client signatures feels streamlined, which helps cut down on endless email follow-ups. The folder structure and permission controls also keep client files organized and compliant, making it easier to manage everything in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Pricing can become relatively high as you add more modules or users. I’d also like to see more flexibility in custom reporting and deeper workflow automation, especially when managing complex, multi-stage audit engagements. Price is little bit higher then other company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible Tasks, Templates, and AI Features That Push Canopy Further"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I really like the task function and how flexible it is. It’s easy to add and remove subtasks, apply templates to each task, and now, with some of the integrated AI features, the sky really is the limit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The only real downside I’ve found with Canopy is, oddly enough, the wait time between clicking through subtasks. Aside from that, the program has wonderful technical support that’s willing to help with anything you need to resolve. In most cases for me, the issue was simply that I wasn’t using Canopy properly. "Modern, Feature-Rich Solution with Room for Improvement"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I love how Canopy is constantly evolving, regularly cranking out new updates and features that are on the cutting edge of the accounting software industry. This includes advancements in tax automation, smart intake of client documents, delivery of tax returns, and integrations with QuickBooks Online. I'm impressed with how quickly they bring new features under one umbrella, allowing us to have everything in one place. Additionally, switching to Canopy from our previous software was refreshing due to its modern, sleek, and feature-rich design, enabling us to take advantage of new capabilities that our old software couldn't handle. I'm grateful for Canopy’s customization options that let us tailor our templates, workflows, and processes. Uploading client data and files is streamlined, seamless, and pain-free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

I found some frustration with the insights module for custom reporting and dashboards because certain information we need isn't exposed through the queries. Also, we experience occasional outages, which can be annoying even though they aren't common. I think there could be improvement in allowing more integrations with other software. There are some integrations available, but not with all the tools we use, like UltraTax. Lastly, we had some growing pains with the initial setup, as we had to flesh out all of our templates, even though Canopy offers a rich library. It was a bit challenging to switch over due to our fine-tuned specific processes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Game changer for my solo firm!"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I was able to drastically reduce my tech stack. I can automate workflows and easily track projects, and support is easily accessible. They’re also constantly updating and improving the product based on customer feedback.

From billing to document management, this platform does it all, and does most of it extremely well, and all of it is usable. Several features that I found frustrating have already been updated and improved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Canopy Virtual Drive and the desktop assistant don’t work with ARM processors. I really hope this gets fixed; as irritating as it is, it’s still a small price to pay. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"User-Friendly, Centralized Client Files with Easy Sharing and Work Tracking"
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

Canopy offers a user-friendly interface that makes managing daily tasks and client information efficient and straightforward. One of its greatest strengths is the ability to centralize client files, documents, and communications in one convenient location. The document-sharing features and client portal make it easy to securely exchange information with clients, reducing unnecessary back-and-forth communication. Additionally, the ability to track outstanding work helps our team stay organized, monitor progress, and ensure important tasks do not fall through the cracks. Overall, Canopy has been a valuable tool for streamlining our workflows, improving collaboration, and keeping client information organized and easily accessible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Navigating the list of outstanding work in Canopy can be cumbersome, particularly when trying to identify and manage work at the individual task level. While the system provides visibility into outstanding items, the organization and presentation of tasks are not always intuitive. When outstanding work is displayed by subtask, the list becomes cluttered and difficult to navigate. Subtasks can overwhelm the overall view, making it challenging to distinguish between larger projects, primary tasks, and individual action items. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
