What I like most about Amazon VPC Lattice is how it simplifies secure application-to-application communication across VPCs, AWS accounts, and different compute platforms, without forcing you into complex networking configurations. It pulls service discovery, authentication, authorization, and traffic routing into a single managed service, which lets application teams stay focused on building and shipping features rather than spending time on network management. I also appreciate its native integration with IAM and its support for ECS, EKS, EC2, and Lambda, which makes it a strong fit for modern microservices architectures. The concepts behind service networks, services, target groups, and resource associations can take some time to fully understand. In smaller environments with only a handful of services, more traditional options like load balancers or an API Gateway may be simpler to set up and manage, and potentially more cost-effective as well. Amazon VPC Lattice helps enable secure service-to-service communication across distributed AWS environments. For example, our platform runs microservices across multiple AWS accounts and VPCs using ECS and Lambda. Rather than setting up VPC peering, PrivateLink, Route 53 private hosted zones, and custom IAM policies for every application, VPC Lattice gave us centralized service networking with built-in authentication, authorization, and traffic routing.
