In higher education it is widely used and proven in Hungary where we use. I'm a big fan of learning by doing and I really like the exercises where I can touch real code, modify and compile them into working applications. The exercises are diverse enough that they cover multiple job roles so the service can be an integral part of a solid security program in engineering. Currently, there are a lot of exercises that are more like puzzles and require substantial mental investment to solve. I recommend to focus on maintaining technical vitality via gamified challenges that can be completed whenever one has spare time - staying up-to-date is crucial but often underestimated. **What do you dislike about Avatao?** The majority of the content is around AppSec - which is not a drawback, just something to be aware of when putting together a learning plan for your team. **What problems is Avatao solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our use case was to enable a team of security practitioners to refresh and maintain their vitality in such a way that will allow flexible allocation of learning time and not conflict with projects/primary business tasks. Team members had rather heterogeneous background with individual strengths and gaps, Avatao helped to raise the baseline by closing/reducing the gaps. Most team members reported that using the platform felt more like recreation, an escape from their conventional activities. ### 10. This way I can play with the tools just like I would in real-life. In programming languages, you get a simple IDE and can run right there on the spot. You really have everything set up, you don't need to install anything on your computer and spend hours just to try out a new language/technology. Instructions come via "avataobot", giving you one simple task at a time and the system validates that I did what I needed to do. **What do you dislike about Avatao?** Sometimes hotkeys collide in the terminal collide with those of the browser. Most notably, Ctrl-W is removing the last word in the command line (basically it is the "Cut" operation in readline), at the same time Ctrl-W is also closing the current browser tab. I tend to use Ctrl-W a lot, but not in Avatao :) **What problems is Avatao solving and how is that benefiting you?** Avatao helps us building the code related security awareness of software engineers. It takes only one bug to create a security issue, thus responsibility lies on the shoulders of each and every software engineer who touch the code. It is very difficult to create secure software with a team of non-trivial size, unless these engineers have the necessary knowledge and motivation to do it in the first place. Avatao helps us building both the knowledge and the motivation. ### 11.
