**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2025

**What do you like best about AutoCAD?**

I really like that AutoCAD is the industry standard. This makes it essential for collaboration because almost every firm uses it, which makes file sharing and compatibility seamless.
The precision and powerful tools for 2D drafting are unmatched. The ability to create highly detailed and accurate drawings is what makes it so reliable for professional work.

**What do you dislike about AutoCAD?**

My biggest dislike is the cost. The subscription price is very high, especially for individual users or small businesses. It feels like a significant barrier to entry for many people.
The software can be very demanding on system resources. It often lags or slows down, especially when working on larger, more complex files with lots of layers.

**What problems is AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a mechanical design engineer, AutoCAD helps me solve the problem of creating precise, technical drawings and communicating my designs effectively. It's an essential tool for my workflow because it allows me to:
Create highly accurate plans and blueprints: AutoCAD enables me to create detailed engineering drawings with exact dimensions, which is crucial for manufacturing and fabrication. This precision minimizes errors and wasted materials.
Streamline revisions and updates: I can make quick and easy edits to my designs using its layer management tools and editing commands. This saves a huge amount of time compared to manual drafting, especially when a project needs multiple revisions.
Collaborate with different teams: Many of the teams I work with, like manufacturing or construction, rely on DWG files. Since AutoCAD is the industry standard, I can easily share my designs with them without any compatibility issues. This ensures everyone is on the same page and helps to avoid miscommunication.

  ### 46. AutoCAD is King of Drafting and Annotation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ofonime W. | Design Engineer, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2024

**What do you like best about AutoCAD?**

AutoCAD is super productive for 2D drawings (drafting and annotation). It allows me to create multiple or very large, technical drawings (blue prints) and building plans, with less fear for error due to broken relationships, which is perculiar to paramaetric desgin softwares. AutoCAD has unique abilites like use of layers, blocks, xrefence and Osnaps, which make your drafting experince unforgetable.

**What do you dislike about AutoCAD?**

AutoCAD's files structure doesnt feature categorizing a design file into parts, componets and bodies, its sees all as one, making it less suitable for 3D designs practices

AutoCAD design is mostly manipulated geometrically instead of parametrically, certain operations and task would be difficult and time consuming to carry out manually and repetitively.

**What problems is AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the latest years, AutoCAD incoperated advance levels of automation, file manipulation and data management, this has made the use of the software for managing large projects and performing repetitive task more easy. I can easily add fresh/waste water supply layouts to building plans, without fear of inconsitency ,missing refrences, file acess & control etc. With AutoCAD 3D (solid, surface and mesh), i can easily generate freehand 3D concepts which i would develop later on a sister software.

  ### 47. The only tool you need for 2d drafting, its an industry standard since forever!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Humam K. | CS MANAGER/DIRECTOR, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 24, 2024

**What do you like best about AutoCAD?**

- The easiest 2D drafting software! I’ve been using it almost daily for work and university since around the 2010 versions.
- I can easily save and import files to other Autodesk software, like Revit.
- 3D drafting is also available if needed. While it’s not my main focus, I’ve used it for a while, and it’s easy to learn and implement, even in 3D.
- An industry-standard software—enough said.
- They have many agencies for customer support across multiple countries. I haven’t needed them yet because I’ve never had an issue!
- Tons of tutorials are available everywhere.
- Sharing files is seamless and straightforward.
- Frequent updates and new versions with exciting features.

**What do you dislike about AutoCAD?**

- The price, obviously. Students can get it for free for a few years, but for standalone designers, it’s a significant expense.
- Same issue with subscriptions—it sometimes feels very strict.
- I’ve always used the Windows version, but I recently had to switch to Mac, and there are slight changes in the interface and settings. It can be a bit confusing. Just make it universal!
- I know there’s a cheaper, lighter version for designers, but what if you suddenly need all the features for just one small instance?

**What problems is AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s more of an enabling tool. AutoCAD is a worldwide industry standard for drafting, offering absolute accuracy compared to the time-consuming process of manual drawing. There are endless reasons why it’s invaluable, but the highlight for me is the undo and redo options, because you definitely can’t do that in real life!

  ### 48. AutoCAD and its end user experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shreyan R. | Business Analyst, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2024

**What do you like best about AutoCAD?**

Supports various file formats and makes colaboration easier. It has a good customer support and online resources to support beginners.

**What do you dislike about AutoCAD?**

Requires high perofrmance hardware to support big files. It does not have ample data when compared with other 3d softwares.

**What problems is AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Supporting collaboration: It supports various file formats and makes collaboration with other professionals easier.
Precision and accuracy: It provides several tools, such as lines, arcs, circles, polylines, and intricate curves, for making 2D and 3D drawings in a single software and enables highly precise designs and drawings.
Ease of use: Because the drafting process is so simple, even beginners may use it with ease. Beginners can learn more easily and seasoned users can stay up to date thanks to the abundance of online resources, forums, tutorials, and webinars accessible.
Removing manual drafting: AutoCAD accelerates the drafting process by allowing for the rapid digital generation and alteration of designs. User can simply edit, duplicate, relocate, and mirror components, which saves time on revisions and updates.

  ### 49. Unfriendly to Small Firms

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom O. | Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2025

**What do you like best about AutoCAD?**

AutoCad has a very broad user base and it's the defacto standard for manufacturers and suppliers distributing blocks and other CAD entities.

**What do you dislike about AutoCAD?**

The basic problem for us was that AutoDesk's business practices were inconsistent with the relationship we needed. The basic AutoCad software is quite mature but doesn't really undergo significant upgrades or improvements (that's a user's perspective, not the AutoDesk marketing department's) but the price keeps going up and service keeps going down.

We weren't impressed and really couldn't use the multiple little software products they kept adding and trying to bundle. As a small firm, we needed the simple, solid product we'd had at a reasonable price. ultimately left AutoCad as it became way too expensive and there was no customer service for firms of our size.

While I regretted leaving we left be we understood that we were unimportant to AutoDesk. Autodesk saw no profit in serving us if you look at it on a customer-by-customer basis. Better to sell one site license for 100 seats than 100 seats 5 seats at a time.

**What problems is AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Drawing our projects

  ### 50. Best software for Industrial Drawings

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sachin K. | Design Engineer, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2024

**What do you like best about AutoCAD?**

It is very easy and usefull to draft 2D drawings in AutoCAD. It supports .DWF and .DWG format files. It can also integrate with other 3D modelling softwares.

**What do you dislike about AutoCAD?**

I don't find any issue at all while doind 2D drafting. For 3D modelling it is not much useful at the time.

**What problems is AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating 2D drawings for manufacturing purpose. Creating wirecut data. Creating drawings in layers.
