**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrea L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

It is one of the main platforms that gives us all the data protection capabilities that we need for our intense workflow without having deep complexity that we do not need to implement on all staff. Its features are important for unifying protection across all workloads and simplifying them at scale. With its functions we manage to prepare all our infrastructures, thinking about the future, establishing the best data protection and disaster recovery for each type of workflow. In turn, making use of its heterogeneous image-based technology that provides security from any objective.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

The visual appearance is not the best on the market, it is good but not so much to be considered the best, its functionalities are, but this aspect needs to be improved so that it is totally the best platform in all its areas and does not have negative aspects. However, as a work team, we focus on improving our benefits and we achieve this through its powerful tools, and we do not focus on appearance.

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

Arcserve UDP is designed to proactively mix technologies so that you can completely simplify an infrastructure and run a mix of local, virtual, and SaaS-based systems and applications. It's a comprehensive solution that encompasses all of these diverse application environments, forgetting that organizations can be susceptible to downtime and data loss. It is also very effective in protecting critical data against damage or destruction with the least possible effort, simplifying the risk of regulations. It is a powerful solution with which you can strengthen business systems and applications.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We prevent data loss and prolonged downtime on cloud, on-premises, virtual, and SaaS-based workloads by using only one unified central management interface. We reduce downtime by validating recovery times and scores with automated testing and granular reporting. We accelerate time to value without the need for extensive training or additional professional services. Our entire system now scales upward as we keep turning capabilities on and off with no forklift upgrades or additional products.

  ### 13. Easy handling and good dashboard

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter S. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

Deduplication / virtual standby / instant VM
Some customers like to use virtual standby and replication to another data store. Many customers have multiple locations with data storage. The customers then replicate their backups over the WAN line.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

Activation / licensing after or during the installation is bad. Online or offline activation? An upgrade from an old version to a newer version usually leads to activation problems. The activation must be carried out several times offline / online. If none of this works, support has to be contacted. The german support could be a little better. I reported a lot of problems with customers where support should contact the customer directly. I was repeatedly contacted for questions. Most of the time I am no longer with the customer and cannot answer the questions. If the support had asked the customer directly, the questions would be answered immediately.

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

A good product for data backup. VMs or individual files can be easily restored. Arcserve UDP is easy to install and use. Unfortunately there are often problems with licensing / activation. But Arcserve Support will be happy to help and solve the problem very quickly.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Many customers use the normal function of UDP. However, some customers also like to use virtual standby and replication to another data store. Some customers save themselves the backup to tape

  ### 14. Simply good Backup Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel E. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

-easy Management console Overview
-many Features of doing backups from different type of Services
-easy recovery szenarios possible
-deduplication and compression works nice
-BMR szenarios worked best for me
-support hotline helps you in every situation (now in language german, but english is also no problem)
-you get regularly updates and service for the product
-the arcserve exchange granular restore tool is very helpful to extract some mails or things like that out of a mailbox
-the possiblity of doing a backup replication to a other RPS
-the RPS jumpstart feature
-arcserve backup software to to a tape backup (very helpful in the age of encryption trojans)
-the arcserve appliances with sophos
-the gui is arranged sensibly and logically
-the virtual standby feature ist useful for customers which don't use a cluster infrastructure (here you can easy switch on the backup vm of a productive machine)
-also the instant vm feature is nice to have because sometimes you need to know whether the backup works or not

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

-the licensing method is complicated and error-prone
-the GUI ist not supported and functionally with every browser
-the knowledgebase in the internet could be more filled with useful articles
-you can not change the block size of a existing rps (for example when you want to speed up the tape backup)
-when you backup a VM and doing a virtual standyby vm then the name of the vhdx file ist named very senseless - that is a problem when these vm is going productive

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

the product is very versatile and reliable

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We solve the Backup strategy by many customers
-secure every infrastructure the customer has (no matter what kind of hypervisor or physically machine)
-we can also secure mailboxes hosted by a cloud provider
-the BMR option is very useful when changing the complette OS to an other physically machine
-secure and restore Exchange mailboxes/databases

  ### 15. Arcserve UDP

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

Simplistic and intuitive backups for all

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

The interface takes some getting used to

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

I used another backup solution for years that I thought was pretty efficient; however, Arcserve does everything that little bit better and seamlessly. I have to interact with it less, and everything I need is available within a single interface. Excellent product

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Day to day backup ups and replication, achieving 3-2-1 and having guarantees around ransomware. Office 365 backups (SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive etc)

  ### 16. How Arcserve helps fulfill SLAs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Georg H. W. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

Arcserve UDP Applinace offers our customers complete protection with ransomware protection, backup and restore of Windows and LINUX systems wherever they are hosted, SLA testing, standby functions for physics and VMs and, in conjunction with Arcserve CA, HA functionality.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

Everything is ok so far, the support in India could be improved

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

Due to the Corana crisis the world has become much more digital. There are more than just products from Microsoft. Collaboration tools are now open source. Backup for Postgres, MySQL and other DB is missing. The future is on the one hand Fog Computing and on the other hand LINUX, Docker and often Open Source. In my experience, Arcserve is not interested in the education market, where compliance is very important and backup and restore is a must. Arcserce has with the technologies of ASBU the possibility to backup meta data. I believe that Arcserve can develop a meta data tool for the data modeling of file systems and directory services based on the technology used there. Is - target comparisons of rights would be possible.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup and restore could be simplified. The reporting helps to quickly assess whether backups are OK.

  ### 17. Very good Product. Its with the time. so likely you can backup in aws.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Burak E. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

The best product from arcserve ist the Backup Appliance with Sophos Securtiy, when you want a backup in house.
On the other hand you can use the backup to aws cloud an go with time.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

I dislike arcserves reputation on old IT admins who knows arcserve from the 90s.
The second point is the integration from arcserve to network monitoring software like PRTG Network Monitoring.
So whe have wirte a powershell script to integrate arcserve UDP to PRTG Network Protection, but this works semi-well. Other backup software products as Veeam One have a fully integration to PRTG Network Protection. So why not have arcserve this too?

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

Arcserve is the right choise when you do backup in the DACH. So you can backup in the aws cloud without spending to much money and do a right backup with governance rules. So still the aws cloud in frankfurt does not gives your backup away in a other cloud and your backup is encrypted.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You can easily do a backup with your own devices without spending so much money in your backupconcept.
And when you have enought money you can go with time and can get a all in one concept with backupappliance in house and hybrid cloud to get the disater recovery.

  ### 18. A very helpful and solid product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

We use the product for data backup for most of our customers. Relatively simple handling, reliability and uncomplicated and quick access to support are important for us as a service provider and our customers. Deduplication saves large amounts of data storage, in practice savings of between 60% and 80% are feasible. The product is available free of charge for 30 days without any restrictions. This is of great help for test purposes, migrations or even for temporary data backup.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

We have had issues with product activation in the past but these have been resolved.

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

The RPS cannot be a domain member
2 independent data backup targets should be available, ideally an HDD / SSD storage and a tape library

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Despite extensive precautionary measures, one of our customers' data was encrypted with ransomware. The data could be easily restored from the backup because it was saved on tapes. This clearly shows that backing up to tapes is extremely important even today.
With virtual standby, downtimes can be reduced enormously. If a virtual or physical server has to be restored from the data backup, this takes a long time, depending on the size of the server. With virtual standby, the restoration to a virtual server is carried out immediately after the backup and is therefore available almost immediately in the event of an error. The incremental backup ensures small amounts of data to be transferred.

  ### 19. Value for money and to our cases the right choice with excellence in support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Norman N. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

When we were looking for a suitable backup product and didn't want to go straight back to the market leaders, we tested 6 products. Only UDP saved a complete LAB in the first test and then completely recovered it. All other products failed the first time because of drivers, libraries and the 40G backup backbone.

We back up every 15 min. into a storage server, this every 60 minutes into a fire protection storage server and then to backblaze at the weekend.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

the UI react slow an looks "oldschool" my personal feelling BUT if you need it remotely its the best way to do it "oldschool" because its fast over thin lines

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

it is important to test to understand the structure of the data handling. Then a concept is formed in the head all by itself.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Thanks to the far-sighted licensing policy and the moderate costs, we can operate such a structure in a cost-saving manner.
With UDP, each storage server is completely autharkic to recover the entire data.

  ### 20. Great Bootcamp session

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Grant B. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

very informative and helpful for using the software, highly recommend for anyone who would like to just learn more about what's possible. I really liked the labs to get hands-on with the software and the easy to follow the guide provided

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

Bootcamp was great, the presenters are very knowledgable so nothing to show as a dislike

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

Highly recommend joining a Bootcamp session and finding out more about the product and should you ever find you run into issues always consider contacting the Pre-sales support as they are a great bunch and can identify the issues which can be resolved by them.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I originally had issues whereby our backups would fail or take ages, after todays bootcamp I have now resolved the issue

  ### 21. Great appliance and easy GUI

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ralph M. | IT Support Technician, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

The GUI is really intuitive and easy to follow the flow of the console to create backup plans and ensure data integrity.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

sometimes there is more than one way to restore a file and there are vastly different results and speed of restore.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

setting up remote working during lockdown and the "new normal" - we have P2V'd a number of key workers machines onto onsite servers and then given VPN and RDP access to the remote workers who then use home internet. This then means that the hard, data intensive I/O commands are being done ONSITE and the user only transmits their RDP commands over their slow broadband. It has been a real lifesaver when data heavy operations like finance/Sage/Graphic design is being done.

  ### 22. old, good, relible...but difficult to understand and handle

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikolai A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

- price models - per user, per TB
- variety of the backup options

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

- Interface!!! why one needs so many new windows, right clicks, etc
- the almost 2weeks outage when UDP was not accessible!!! (a month or so ago)

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

It"s a magic when Arcserve works, it's a bitch when it doesn't. Reliable solution but...men, get your hands on first than decide

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup of our +/- 150 users O365 environment.
No on premises HW needed

  ### 23. Safe storage and necessary to keep the base protected.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lily B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

This platform allows you to have data protection and recovery from any type of disaster. It has a technology backed by several elements that protects to and from any objective, and the tools cover all the needs of the company.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

The results we obtained have been satisfactory and the performance has increased but the learning curve of this software seems a bit high to us, if you can improve this a little, you can perform a faster handling of Acserve.

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

This platform will definitely provide the security you want to the entire database through backups and security copies, it is set up and literally forgets about the platform, although it has a high learning curve, it is much simpler than other software, totally recommended.
In addition to being a comprehensive security system and varied files with which we can maintain and use our documents whenever we need it.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This platform is used in our company in data centers to obtain a backup and recovery from disasters of central and remote sites. We make backup copies and restorations of critical company data, virtual and physical machines, applications, among others. It has been very stable without any blockage. It is easier to use when compared to other platforms that the company has already implemented without positive results. Our work staff is calmer and has extensive time savings that we use in other areas of our company.

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

I think i'm using arcserve UDP everyday,
on all my customer i install UDP to protect server, vm, or client from dataloss or data corruption.

Sometimes UDP save me from Distater, and i can restore easily vm or Phisical with BMR tecnology.

**Reviewed by:** Zoltan P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

I really do not like this solution, as all i had with it was problems. Sure it does have a clean interface and when it works it works, but thats not enough.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

It needs my constant attention. I am the owner and IT guy in one person and i need a solution that works everyday. After some windows updates backups start failing and after hours of research why all i find is: Make a new job. And it works. And thats beyon annoying, as every few weeks it needs interaction where it just should work without supervision.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

Arcserve have done a lot with UDP to dispel any reservations I had with the legacy Arcserve Backup product from the CA days. There is an awful lot included in the product that is hidden behind paywalls with other offerings or that would necessitate multiple purchases.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

I do think there are some limitations around Arcserve's Cloud integration that would make them a less than viable option for certain environments, but what is here is more than adequate for the vast majority of use cases.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup, Availability, Sovereignty over SaaS Applications, Consolidation of vendors.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

Nothing really. As a newcomer to the IT industry, in a non-technical role (PM) I wasn't expecting to understand much, although I was surprised how much of what was covered made at least some sense to me.

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

It sounds like a great product. It comes bundled with Intercept X which is very helpful.

The setup is very simple and the interface is very intuitive when setting up the machines. Even when there is errors the error messages actually give good output so you can troubleshoot what went wrong.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

The only issues I ran into was the lack of support for linux (very limited) and the DR team when calling in was not the most educated. They lady we spoke to was just going from a booklet and seemed to not understand the deeper level of configuration. It worried me if we actually had a DR issue and needed support.

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

Sign up for the trial! You will see first hand how easy it is to implement and get started.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 46. Arcserve...for peace of mind

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sean N. | Manager, IT Infrastructure and Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

Consistency of backups and notifications. We know when things fail and usually how to deal with them. The backups complete relatively quickly (as long as the internet connection onsite is good) and the onsite backups are quick as well. Sometimes, if the internet connection onsite is slow, I've seen backups take more than a week to complete, but they are consistent and actually complete once the data is transferred.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

Support - it tends to be a little hard to reach. Once you get in touch with them though, they are pretty responsive. Would really like to see 24x7 support or at least extended hours during the week. Only M-F 8-5 is a little difficult when backup jobs often run during different times of the day/night.

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

ArcServe UDP has a bright future. It's a stable product, and consistent as far as backups go. When trouble arises with an agent, if the solution is anything besides "uninstall/reinstall" it tends to take a bit of time to get support.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have had a few issues with Arcserve's cloud product (purchased from Zetta) with consistent backups on older machines. I know they support the older machines using the current agent, but we have had to delete and recreate multiple backup sets.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

Localized support would be fine for us..

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 49. Backup and restore with confidence

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg D. | Sr. Associate & Director of Technology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Arcserve UDP?**

There are a lot of things I like best. I guess the first would be the simplicity in selecting what to backup, setting up the priority (the order of the backup), and confidence that the backups will run without issue. I've setup a full backup to run on Fridays, then an incremental backup the rest of the days of the week. Keeps the backup running quickly and efficiently. But mostly, I like the ease in restoring data when necessary. I like the option of restoring to the original folder, or I can opt to restore to a new folder.

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

Installing the agents on the various servers is a little tedious. When I update the software, I have to update the agents on each server. And some servers need multiple agents, like the Exchange server. Since it's a VM, it has the virtual agent, exchange agent and client agent. I would like Arcserve to figure out how to make the software agent-less. This would make installing and updating the software easier to do.

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

Give it a try and see how easy it is to use.

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I get consistent, quick backups from all our servers that are part of the backup process, and it has the intelligence built in to communicate with applications like Exchange to keep the server clean.

  ### 50. Arcserve UDP - excellent backup solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jerzy A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2020

**What do you dislike about Arcserve UDP?**

Nothing, though backing up Linux could be a little easier

**Recommendations to others considering Arcserve UDP:**

Compare deduplications earnings with other solutions with similar deployment costs

**What problems is Arcserve UDP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup of physical and virtual servers. Low requirements on backup storage space thanks to deduplication
