It integrates our databases with offline data collection abilities for cohesive and streamline data management and post production. Can be buggy at times. Does require ArcGIS online subscription to operate but that is standard practice for most ESRI products. It is constantly improving, especially since the days of Collector. It allows us to provide offline aerial basemaps for navigation. We can also provide georeferenced archeaological maps in the form of map packages to use as basemaps. This allows our field crew to easily navigate to sites and collect accuate data. We pair our Field Maps with Eos Arrow GNSS receivers and this works great. If updates need to be provide to the field crew, that is also easily done allow admin and field crew almost real time updates on project progress. GIS data can also be preloaded into Field Maps via ArcGIS online. If on Android, there are two apps which both work fine, but it can be confusing deciding on one to stick with. Difficult to make edits on smartphone (easy to click on the wrong place by mistake). I find it very easy to set up templates for surveys through ArcGIS Online which can be reused The collector app does a job that open source can't fill. We tried looking for free alternatives but the reliability of the collector app/ the arc package was a massive plus. There are currently two apps on Android for the collector app. The one which I would advise our consultants to use is the beta app, this really shouldn't be the case anymore. Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS Field Maps: Use the beta app on Android, we don't use apple products within this company so unfortunately can't comment. If you are continually doing the same style of surveys then make sure your templates on AGOL are set up correctly. This will make your life vastly easier. Labels, being able to rotate the map, now being able to accidentally move a point by brushing the screen anymore, I love the photo on the start screen! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about ArcGIS Field Maps? iPads are hard to see in the bright light in Phoenix, We add non-glare screen protectors, but that also makes the screen dimmer and less sharp. To compound the situation the Collector app gets grayed out when you start editing so it's almost impossible to see where to manually place/move the feature you are editing with respect to the surrounding features on the map, I believe the target area around the cross-hairs is meant to be clear to see so I think you just need to make sure the symbols within the target area do not get grayed out. I do think it's a great idea to gray the map out on the rest of the screen because that will help draw your eye to the focal area that you are editing. I have attribute-dependent symbology that is meant to change color/shape when you update the feature to say "done" for example. The symbols (assigned in AGOL) don't update automatically. I have to back out of the map, open a different map, then open my map again to force the symbols to redraw. On the other hand the symbols that come through from an MXD that I have published to a map service refresh automatically. So there must be a bug with the redraw of AGOL symbols. It is very difficult to manually draw and edit polygon vertices. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is ArcGIS Field Maps solving and how is that benefiting you? We were able to reduce an 18-month one-time botanical research project to a 2-week annual event because of Collector. The data we collect is also now a snapshot in time. That makes our data much more valuable for research and makes it possible to do a long-term research study. 90 to 95% of the mapping work done at our botanical garden gets done on the Collector app. That means our institution is able to do 10-20 times more mapping work than we would have done if we just had the desktop software. Our campus is 140 acres so mapping capabilities are very important to our organization. This summer we will be putting the finishing touches on our full plant map for our botanical garden. This map is already being used for research and education and we expect its usefulness to skyrocket this year when we start sharing it more extensively with our staff, our 800 volunteers, and our guests. Without Collector we would not have been able to create a full, detailed plant map and it would have been much more costly and technically difficult to maintain it as the garden changes.
