  ### 2. Immense Flexibility With ArangoDB

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Arango?**

We have a mapping platform that has an immense amount of GeoJson data. During our platform architecture phase, having a graph database was a major requirement. We began the search through the more popular graph databases only to find that none of them handled GeoJson natively. This meant that we would need two databases, a graph database and one that natively handled GeoJson aka a NoSQL database. We were not happy....then we found ArangoDB which stores document, graph, and key-value data PLUS GeoJson natively.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

So far, we do not find anything that we really do not like. If there was anything, it might be that their annual enterprise license is quite steep.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Move off of your document and key-value databases and provide more intelligence to your data no matter what data store type you have.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This was covered in the first question, but to summarize, it is the ability to handle GeoJson data in a graph relationship. Truly brilliant.

  ### 3. ArangoDB is the modern solution to the modern problem!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Arango?**

ArangoDB is the best database I have used so far. The multi-model approach of storing graphs, documents, k/v and search all in one solution is a game-changer + IT SCALES! ArangoDB is really easy to pick up and everything seems very logical. The AQL (Arango query language) is very simple and intuitive, it took me and the team a couple of hours to get comfortable in writing queries. We were looking into TigerGraph and Neo4j before ArangoDB and it was not a hard decision to make, Neo4j simply doesn't scale (as we saw in our testing) and TG, even though being very performant was way too complex and writing queries was a nightmare to be honest.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

The graph visualizer. It is ok, it has all the basic functions but it stops there. I hope that is next on their roadmap as this is the only area I see them being behind some of their competitors.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

The support that ArangoDB provides is top-notch and very helpful. Give this technology a shot, there is so much you can do with it

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using ArangoDB as a Knowledge Graph and for fraud detection

  ### 4. Simple to use and keeps NoSQL documents clean

**What do you like best about Arango?**

No messy foreign table key references, clean edge documents to link documents

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

I can't find anything to dislike apart from the fact that it is not yet as popular as other NoSQL databases used for production environments.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used arango for a start-up that I was working for. It was suitable for creating flexible schemas to store health-care related information.
1. No messy foreign table key references, clean edge documents to link documents
2. Query language AQL is easy to learn and has a lot of optimizing functions
3. The documentation is neat and covers everything
4. Quick graph-based traversals.

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The best feature of ArangoDB is that it is a mature multi-modal database. We are using out-of-box features to create graph and document databases at the same time.
AQL and Javascript native FOXX are easy to implement. ArangoDB is open source.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Creating Property graphs is easy. However, there is no direct way to create RDF/ OWL graph. RDF triples are useful in machine learning

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are developing applications on top of a semantic graph. ArangoDB architecture encourages microservices architecture, enabling us to design services in short iterative cycles.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sotiris M. | Frontend Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The AQL query language is the best by far.
What I also like a lot is that you can start using arango as a replacement for mongo and progressively as the project scales you might need the search or graph etc so no extra database is needed, and that's awesome!

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

What I don't like is the fact that if you want to start using the cloud version, you have to go to a paid version from day one.
There should be a free tier for people to play around for very small projects.
AWS, Google etc have free tiers for their databases to attract more developers to use their services.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, what I found great is the ability to make complex queries very easily using AQL. Also what is great is that you combine multiple database types into one.

  ### 11. Ease of Use n least complex

**Reviewed by:** siva k. | Founder and CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Being a startup our solution went through multiple iterations and changes at a rapid pace, we were able to keep up with the changes on the data side easily with Arangodb. Queries are simple and straightforward making complex querying easy. The web interface enables the rest of the team with the least Arangodb knowledge to cope easily. Strongly recommend for growing teams and startups.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

The community is not big and matured yet.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

If you are an early-stage startup look no further, just go ahead with ArangoDB

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being a startup our development was rapid and went through multiple iterations of change. Most importantly the entire team need not understand aql to keep up with the DB, that saved a lot of development time.

  ### 12. Excellent database with very good graphics

  ### 14. Modern multi model database

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sajeev R. | API Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Multi model
AQL
Foxx Microservices framework
Arango search
Arango Oasis

Arangdb brings database technology to the next level. It simplifies the data model in an organisation by going away from the need of polyglot persistence. AQL is an amazing stuff which combines all the data model in one query and it’s ability to return back data in various structures. The recent addition of Arango search is a promising feature which can currently perform good amount of search patterns with out needing any additional persistence from the application. In my opinion Arango is a true multi model database which can perform a variety of user requirements. I really enjoyed working with it.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

I think the Arango web UI can be enhanced to have many features which includes taking hot backups

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used it in the Identity And Access Management domain where lot of inter connected data is there.

  ### 15. Simple yet powerful.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sunil G. | Software Development Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2020

**What do you like best about Arango?**

This database is very simple to visualize and implement your data models. Also the querying in AQL are pretty simple. Anyone with basic programming knowledge too can adapt to it quickly. The graph features provide a completely different picture.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Not much about the database, but the documentation for the drivers of arango is quite ambiguous & not well written. It could have been much simpler.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

It is a very good choice for most business requirements. It can do everything that traditional SQL does, and much more than that with much more simplicity. You can design your queries very similar to sql.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basically, the main difference that it makes is how we relate one entity to other. This is very simple to do in arango using its graph features.

  ### 16. I have used ArangoDB in production to store user related information.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sandeep G. | Senior Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2020

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Being a document based database, it is flexible to store any kind of schema.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

I think, it is not very popular or not having broad community like mongodb. Sometimes you may not find the well support for issues that you are facing.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

If you are looking for a document based database, then you can consider Arangodb. But please review your usecase whether it fits in this db, and estimate scale as well.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am storing the user related information in collection. Benefits wise it is flexible for us, to not stick to particular schema.
And it is scalable as well. and it has UI client which makes it easy to query the database.

  ### 17. MultiModel with Graphs

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Seen some installation issue in customer sites.
AQL custom query language.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

If you are looking for document with graph based databases, then It is ArangoDB at best

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Storing relations in edges, solved complex queries implementation. Easy creations of databases and users.
Graphs helps to figure out the relationship between the different collections.
Synchronous and asynchronous replication.
Arango commands for backup and restores

  ### 18. Arangodb

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vinit K. | Senior Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The AQL, gives us the way to write any complex query which was difficult to write in other languages.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Inbuilt methods, there should be some inbuilt methods to fetch the data quickly from database where users don't have to write the query.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The graph features helps me alot in my application where I'm interested to know the number of connections and type of connections a user can have.

  ### 19. Excellent graph database

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Linghui Z. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2020

**What do you like best about Arango?**

1. It' easy to install both a single ArangoDB instance and ArangoDB cluster cross different OS, including CentOS, Ubuntu, MacOS and Windows. You could try and test graph database just through several steps.
2. The AQL is easy to learn and understand. The official document about AQL is very detailed. Everyone could learn it just by reading the AQL document.
3. The most important thing is that the AQL for graph traversal is very efficient. For a graph consisting of one hundred thousand nodes, it takes half an hour to query all rings which includes 6 to 12 nodes.
4. ArangoDB is schema free for a big graph. So it's easy to modify the graph structure without considering different problems.
5. ArangoDB support different cluster modes. That means however big your data is ArangoDB could dynamically scale out or in.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

1. The graph display is not as clear as Neo4j. Although the GUI is not so important for a programer, it's a big problem for general customers because a beautiful and clear GUI could be more understandable for them.
2. ArangoDB could consider supporting Cypher. Cypher is easier to understand and many people have learnt it so maybe they don't like to learn so many different query languages.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ArangoDB for the vehicle insurance fraud scenario. In that scenario, a group of fraudsters work together to make fake car accidents and claim body injuries and car damages. If we just check or use traditional statistical method to inspect a single car accident, a series of car accidents look normal and independently. It is very hard to recognize the fraudsters by machine learning methods because the fraud sample is rare and it's hard to label different group of fraudsters. However, we modeled all the cases via a graph. Specifically, the claim cases are modeled as nodes and first drivers, third-party drivers, passengers etc are also modeled as nodes. All persons are connected by claim case node via relationship edges. Then we search lots of abnormal rings which is capable of revealing relationship between persons who are acting like perfect strangers.

ArangoDB is so excellent to store and query a graph.

  ### 20. Almost a full package with all basic requirements needed to develop a product.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Develop A System for USA university to manage their campus activity for my previous organization (EVC Ventures)

  ### 22. So Rich and Well Put Together

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John G. | Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Migrating a project to ArangoDB from a document DB was intimidating at first but with all the tools it comes packing made it much easier. The query language has a pretty shallow learning curve while at the same time equipping you with so much power.
The rich web interface was the most useful for me; it allowed me to play around with data and queries before committing anything to actual implementation.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

I've had no complaints so far, but I'll be sure to raise if I have any

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Coming from a document DB, ArangoDB is quite easy. Only some minor refactoring required to be up and running, then you can proceed to implement the other features

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Enforcing integrity and consistency of stored data was becoming tedious with increasing complexity. ArangoDB took away all the checks and rules that had to be hardcoded in the application

  ### 23. It is a new experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The multimodal helps us to achieve variety of solutions to all kinds of problems using the same database. The aql query is also so advanced.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

There are small bugs coming up, sometimes.
But they are really improving the performance and functionalities as well.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Handling multiple relations using graph is an added advantage.

  ### 24. Power packed, easy, no learning curve !

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Devaroop B. | Data Engineer, Financial Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Arango?**

This db is a power house of all no sql possibilities. With an active forum and slack channels, the support provided (even for community users) is great. We had used Neo4j before but it limits a lot of things for its enterprise edition and hence we moved on to Arango and we are indeed happy.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

The docs are incomplete at a few places. Initially it was a bit difficult to find answers, but the Slack groups were super helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Just go for it. It has really good support and the ease of usage will blow your mind.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a many to many relationship data analysis problem. After trying SQL (postgres) and Neo4j, we moved to ArangoDB and since then we are happy.

  ### 25. Feature-rich graph database

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander G. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Arango?**

1) Amazing feature-rich query language (AQL), subjectively much easier to use if compared to GraphQL
2) Pregel engine with major graph traversal algorithms available out-of-the-box - we were able to remove large piece of homebrew code with it
3) Nice performance at scale, both write and read
4) Inverted Index available in ArangeSearch - lighting fast!
5) Comprehensive admin UI

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

1) Slow built-in graph visualization, it makes difficult to explore graphs from admin UI.
2) Need to re-write code when switching from single node to cluster node.
3) Slow analytical queries, e.g. aggregations for entire collection. However it's not the primary case for multi-model databases at all.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

If you're using several NoSQL databases it means you probably need multi-model database. Give ArangoDB a try - it's very balanced product in this sense.

If you're looking specifically for graph database with complex queries - most probably you don't have to much candidates in principle. ArangoDB is first-class citizen in this space.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're using ArangoDB as our engine for Identity Graph - huge graph connecting users and devices in deterministic and stochastic way.
Major benefit is finally having native graph database working as intended at scale.

  ### 26. Powerful, Flexible, Performant Database

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James M. | Developer, Publishing, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The multi-model Document/Graph paradigm is a big draw, and good search performance & a very intuitive query language makes the database genuinely enjoyable to use. Documentation is good, and development/support pace is fast.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Some search error messages can feel opaque, although errors should be rare.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're keeping track of complicated relationships between articles and entities that need to be kept updated to the minute. We're also looking at moving our RBAC systems to Arango as a natural fit for the graph-based structure.

  ### 27. A cool (AQL) document DB

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raymond A. | Application Development Senior Analyst, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Arango?**

I am currently using ArangoDB on my Python project, via python-arango. I am loving the way you can easily use AQL queries on your DB transactions, as well as managing your database and collections. You can also setup a highly available database or a main-failover setup, which can make your backend implementation better.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

I don't think I have a dislike on any ArangoDB features, since all or most of my usage are fluently fine.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

If you're looking for a document DB with rich features, you should try and use ArangoDB.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ArangoD handles all my document/transaction related concerns, and the performance doesn't impact any issues.

  ### 28. Amazingly good!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kerry H. | ITSM Business Systems Analyst, Printing, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2019

**What do you like best about Arango?**

So many software companies have a “good produce” but have huge gaps somewhere - poor support, steep learning curve, extraordinarily high pricing, ridiculous development base (“Jython”, I’m looking at you!), etc.

ArangoDB is the first product I have used (in 20 years!) that is complete. It is developer-friendly, user-friendly, has amazingly good support, is extremely performant, plays nice in cloud-native land, has built-in clustering, and (last, but NOT least) IT WORKS!

I am continually amazed at how often I am PLEASENTLY surprised by features, performance, or the company.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Honestly, there isn’t much to NOT like. The only complaint I’ve had so far is that I had to change my query style to be able to fully utilize clustering. This meant learning, but it works.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are building a system that links many databases together to enable IT operations from configuration management to automation to financial reporting. Think “BaceFook for computers.”

Document storage allows us to be flexible in development while the graph powers new insight and allows us to link many sources of information into a web of knowledge (as opposed to a quagmire of misery).

  ### 29. Excellent compromise between flexible structure and RDBMS capacities

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mathias C. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 20, 2018

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The semi-structured and very extensible document model, combined to most of the assets of a hard RDBMS : indexes, joins… plus a few interesting capacities : fulltext indexation, cluster mode. Also, the very active and helpful developers team.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Sometimes it feels like some features are still lacking or don't give their full potential yet, but the product is constantly evolving and new features appear every month.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Cluster mode doesn't implement all functionalities yet, and is way slower (at least with community edition). While this is totally understandable, it might be disappointing if one expects it to be "magical scaling". The replication is not as good as CouchDB at the moment.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our use case is scientific (non-comercial) statistical exploitation of crowdsourced data. Previously using CouchDB, we ran into limitations due to disk space increasing exponentially, and difficulty to perform various complex queries in a reasonable time. ArangoDB allows all that by leveraging most of the powerful concepts of a RDBMS, while keeping a very convenient and extensible semi-sctructured documents orientation. It opens new perspectives for data-mining while keeping a very good read performance thanks to indexes.

  ### 30. An excellent, complete and reliable database for easy learning and use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex P. | IT Solutions Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Very flexible that does not force the user to focus only on a single data model.
key/values, documents or graphs in the same database and possibility of using everything simultaneously!
It is very noticeable that its creators have a deep knowledge of different types of databases.
It is very easy to understand the concepts of this database. The query language is very powerful and easy to understand. Extensive documentation that helps you practice and use ArangoDB in the coming hours!
Our projects (accouting, web applications, budgets) are very complex and we need a multi-model approach. In other databases we do not have this opportunity.
This database has a good technical support. ArangoDB regularly organizes webinars and training. The product is well maintained and the company is able to create several upgrades (version) in one year!
ArangoDB is fully ready for the production environment.
It is very nice that the company gives you all the time you need to test this database.
We have never felt pressured by the evaluation period that in the case of ArangoDB is unlimited.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

I have nothing to dislike!
At this time, this database covers all our production project needs.
Honestly and responsibly I would say that this database deserves one of the best positions in the market.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

If you are interested in NoSQL database but you have the "SQL mind", this is your big chance! ArangoDB will not fail!

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Without any doubt, performance. The best NoSQL databases fail to make the joins that ArangoDB does.
In the world of databases is obvious and correct a multimodel approach.

  ### 31. Amazing product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anderson F. | Senior Software Engineer, Telecommunications, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2018

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The AQL query language is very easy to use, and powerful at the same time

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Because it's still very new and not yet super popular, there is a severe lack of tools and the community is still very small. But that is very likely to improve over time, as the product itself is truly fantastic.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Assess the complexity and characteristics of your domain before choosing your datastore.
Every domain has a datastore that best matches its needs, and ArangoDB stands on a very strong position in that front, because it's a multi model database, meaning no matter what your domain looks like, ArangoDB is likely ready to support it well.
There is no one size fits all solution though; you have to carefully analyse your domain before making a decision -- people tend to jump into the trendy product, just to find out it was not designed to solve the problem they have.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Complex Graph queries in an ERP being developed for the Brazilian market

  ### 32. Good all purpose database with great promise

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2018

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Ease of use, nice admin ui where you can test queries (and explain them) and play with arango, many driver options. Overall a good developer experience. It is under active development and there is a github/slack where the arango team responds to issues. AQL is simple and parallels SQL nicely while offering some of its own special things.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Some small bugs and quirks. Have upgraded a few times to get bugfixes. I dislike that there are enterprise only features. (I guess you gotta make money somehow.) I also found that under heavy load I experienced seemingly random errors and that my applications could overload the database, locking it up. The java driver didnt have all the features I wanted, namely a connection health check. One pesky frustration is that when you google stuff from the documentation, the top result is often not the current version of the documentation, and then switching versions on the page brings you to the documentation home page.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Multimodel is nice - arango can be used for different projects with different goals. Also taking advantage of their clustering for redundancy.

  ### 33. A single database for all my use-cases

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akshesh D. | Associate Data Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The database allows you to the ability to literally serve any of your use-case and replace any of your current databases. It can act like a schema-less document store or as a graph database, that too without giving up on RDBMS features like Joins.
The query language AQL is especially very powerful.
Besides, the community is great and helpful!

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Not anything specific actually, it is actually great.
The performance of RocksDB storage engine is comparatively lower than the standard mmfiles; But that TBH is not a reasonable thing to expect and would be like comparing apples to oranges because that performance is gained at the cost of resources.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to retrieve data quickly, give a search feature and show graphs in our applications - efficiently all using a single database i.e. ArangoDB!
Also, my benchmarking against Neo4j showed results very much in favour of ArangoDB (hence our application served much faster).

  ### 34. ArangoDB enabled our business to grow

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert H. | Founder, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Everything. All just work!
Graph DB
Document Store
Key-Value Store
HTTP Rest Endpoints (and GraphQL)
AQL

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Javascript. My problem
Web UI is sometimes a little unresponsive but easily fixed.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Do it. Learn it. Embrace it.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Graph, Document, Key Value and HTTP REST/GraphQL. In ONE Package?
Surely they can't all be good?
Performance? Yup. Removed Redis
Storage: Replaced Postgres
Graph: No real competitor (Neo4j runs on a JVM and uses Cypher which is a b s t r a c t)
Pregel Algorithms on Graph. Again, not easy to find a useful
REST Endpoints for data Access and CRUD actions. Foxx. and super fast!
And tying it all together is AQL. A wonderous, modern language that enables really impressive complicated queries and processes to be pushed to the backend. People say its good if you come from a SQL background. I hate SQL but I love programming and it really fits with that concept to me.

All of the above have enabled me to trust and rely on ArangoDB as THE technology to power a complex platform.

  ### 35. Never regretted our choice

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tristan R. | CTO, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

AQL is rather easy to pick up and feels rather natural. The web interface is perfectly fine. The documentation is comprehensive and the community is absolutely friendly and helpful. It is backed up by a motivated company and the contact to the people over there has always been a pleasure.
The multi-model approach is great and enables us to fulfill the whole of our project needs with just one DB product.
The integration of Foxx Microservices directly into the DB is a nice topping. The balance between open source and enterprise features is at a sweet spot.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Honestly? There is nothing I dislike at this point.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Just give it a go. We fell in love.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Performance! Even in comparison to other fast NoSQL DBs, Arango performs really nice while letting you do some query magic I would never want to miss again and feeling rock solid. We have it in production for somewhere around two years and never had any problems.

  ### 36. Good software, doc and community

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2018

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Documentation, tooling, and more generally user experience are the best I had in a long time.
The software has a good default configuration, no bullshit, and it is based on well-tested building blocks.
The community and especially Arango's employee are always very responsible for all kinds of problems.
And of course, pretty decent performances and forgiveful to misuse of some features.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Client API are not that good nor efficient. One would have expected a better C++ client than one based on Curl for instance.
Actually, it is so easy to start using and testing Arango that one can miss some important things in the documentation and gives a false impression of bugs/slowness sometime.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Work on your data model and understand relations.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We try to represent a social graph and get out business value out of the links. Traversals, for instance, are something difficult to do efficiently and Arango seems to do a decent job.

  ### 37. ArangoDB: multi-model database

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas d. | Desenvolvedor Web, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2018

**What do you like best about Arango?**

ArangoDB is a multi-database model that allows you to take full advantage of the flexibility of NoSQL and does so with very good performance. The AQL language is very easy to understand and use. It's really quite friendly with anyone who is already familiar with SQL. ArangoDB also provides good facilities such as the Web UI and CLI tools for database administration.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Nothing until now. The database fits well to my current needs.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Try and enjoy it !

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly for studies and academic use. A few months ago I used ArangoDB to store data on nutritional information from foods extracted from API's of Brazil and US.

  ### 38. efficient graph traversal and relationship identification

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** KAVIN RAJ D. | Research Scientist, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Clear query structure which allows to execute efficient queries and sub-queries. The fact that the DB is schemaless makes us to redefine the data model effortlessly to incorporate more features to the collection as part of agile development. AQL allows to combine multiple functionalities within a single query resembling like a function in programming language which gives superior power over db operations

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

As DB is schemaless retrieving attribute which does not exist throws null value instead of error which needs to checked appropriately.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Fellas, ArangoDB has some of the unlocked potential in the world of graph databases although i cant comment in the document DB in which i haven't worked much. It supports complex computations and choice of storage engine suited to process big data. And moreover, support from the DB team and community was overwhelming and issues raised in github was seriously looked upon.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using ArangoDB for the purpose of identifying relationships between users based on their content consumption and underlying structure in the products (news, media content etc.,). The DB allows to quickly process relation computation queries so that latency between user request and recommendation considerably reduced.

  ### 39. How a database should be

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David T. | Founder, Information Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Foxx Microservices
Traditionally databases have been designed for clients to make calls directly into the tables and columns of the database, requiring developers to be responsible for their code as well as the structure of the database.

With Foxx Microservices in ArangoDB, it allows the database owner to provide a REST interface for consumers to access the data. This is fantastic for improving security, data integrity, and ease of use.

The security aspect is that users of the database no longer need direct access to tables, rather they are limited to only access the data via a REST interface and the inbuilt Swagger support in Foxx helps developers and consumers understand the structure of the data.

Data integrity benefits because you can implement your own validation and business logic at the database layer, intercepting data before it enters or leaves the server.

Many development platforms and products are able to interact with REST API's and that is the key benefit of Foxx Microservices. No longer do you need special drivers or client software to interact with a Foxx enabled database, rather you just make standard REST calls. Key here is that it's easy to consume your data and you can maintain a loose coupling between what actions they perform on your data and the specifics around how your data is physically structured.

The kicker is that Foxx is programmed with JavaScript, making it easy to get up to speed with a language that many of us are familiar with already.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

I'd love to see ArangoDB hosted in Cloud Providers as a SaaS offering! The power of Foxx Microservices gives ArangoDB a real point of difference over existing database technologies. By being able to centralize a lot of your product functionality and business logic right in the ArangoDB database makes this a great candidate for a cloud based SaaS offering, or an internal SaaS offering in your own data center.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Once you understand the value of having a single database that does both Document and Graph storage, take time to understand what Foxx can bring you. Your developers and security team will love you.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to take advantage of both Graph and NoSQL technologies on a single product. This was the core reason of moving to ArangoDB and the performance improvement over traditional SQL servers is amazing. Even on relatively low spec hardware we are able to achieve the throughput and performance we are looking for.
The Foxx services within ArangoDB were not the initial reason for moving to the product, but have since become core to our solution.

  ### 40. Very performant free graph DB

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gregor R. | Head of Technology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Very professional graph DB designed from the ground up for multi model support, scaling (e.g., clustering and sharding built in), free open source and enterprise model but even free version has great community and official support.
Very good driver support, Java driver has become really advanced now with async support and direct access to VelicyPack serialization format.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Proprietary query language AQL, no support for Apache Tinkerbob
Web UI still only has quite basic navigation, visualisation and query assistance (intelligent auto completion)

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Didn't check out 3.3 yet, Linux support is great. Watch out for resource usage, now with new RocksDB storage engine much easier on the system resources.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using it for our generic sequencing platform, from user and UI level simple configuration storage to storing massive amounts of variant and sample data.

  ### 41. Easy to learn, quick, but young

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gaël D. | Président, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Graph database, AQL which is SQL friendly and KV storage + Document storage + Graph storage in only one solution

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Setup production cluster outside (DC/OS) is not easy

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Find the shorter path between two nodes, keep only one database engine for all needs (lower administration cost)

  ### 42. An easy way to do complex things

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alan V. | Software and Web Developer, Internet, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Document and Graph database at the same time;
It's easy to query the database with AQL;

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Not a big issue, but I think database should keep the connection open like other databases.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

If you coming from another document database, just give it a try. The learning curve is minimal compared to other graph databases.

AQL will help you with complex queries.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We create an Open Source application called Globomap with an ability to map all our infrastructure and cloud resources, and correlate with each other. So, we can find any resource, no matter the starting point.

  ### 43. Multi-purpose "NoSQL" database of my choice

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andreas J. | Fellow of the Python Software Foundation, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

ArangoDB provides a robust and feature-rich database implementation when you need a document store combined with a graph database. The ability to store documents and model arbitrary relations between documents using a graph is a key feature and often needed when your data model is not only flat or hierarchical but just connected in many different way. The query language AQL allows us to write queries similar to SQL. This is a major advantages over databases mis-using JSON as query language.

Transactional integrity, ACID compliance are also a big plus.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Not many issues with the current Arango 3 release. Older release had various issues like non-persistence of indexes but the ArangoDB team addressed most issues in the latest releases which where blocking development and production.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

ArangoDB is absolutely worth a try. Of course there are often more specialized databases serving a particular usecase like time-series data etc. I value and promote ArangoDB because it solves a lot of problems with a clear design in mind and particular because the ArangoDB team knows exactly what they are doing. There is not much marketing buzz involved in ArangoDB and the personal and warm relationship with the ArangoDB team make me feel very comfortable when working on database-driven projects.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ArangoDB is a multi-purpose database for most of your business cases like content-management, arbitrary web applications. It is in many a serious alternative to Postgres.

  ### 44. A very powerful database to build scalable apps

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Olivier B. | ArangoDB / JS / RoR / mongoDB / Redis / PHP / SQL, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Foxx
With Foxx you can create Restful API directly in the heart of the database. You save HTTP requests and it's very fast. You API will scale with your cluster.
You can even run scripts in background using queues (for email sending by example)

Graph
You can create graph and use them very easily.

AQL
The AQL language is very easy to understand. The learning curve is short.

JOINS
In one request you can get the data you want.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Nothing for now. I can do anything I want with this database.
I didn't test yet the rocksdb storage ... So I can't tell about performances using it.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

It worth to play with it ... Once get confortable with Foxx, AQL 1 Graph you won't go back

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can create app faster, I even wrote a tool to simplify my life : https://foxx-framework.com
I now use full JS stack from frontend (vueJS, riotJS) to backend (Foxx)
The graph feature saved me some intensive CPU for manipulating trees.

It's very easy to start a new project using this database.

  ### 45. Great features and support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2018

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The ability to have a document store with joins and graph connections with cluster support is amazing. The Foxx framework makes a very convenient way to embed logic into the database and provide a clean interface for any REST interface. Web interface is really nice.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Often find queries that are really slow - but usually just an index issue.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently as doc store. RocksDB makes it easy to have larger-than-memory datasets.

  ### 46. Very Friendly Multi-Model Database

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Austin M. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

ArangoDB is a very intuitive, developer friendly, multi-model database. It has excellent graph features allowing it to be used as a single data source for a variety of client applications. I like the new velocypack and velocstream protocol as it allows a full-duplex, persistent connection from the client.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Nothing really. I haven't had a change to play with some of the newest (rocksdb, smart graphs) or distributive features (clustering and agency), but if they are like the rest of the platform, I'm sure they are top notch.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My initial interest in ArangoDB was as a graph database, but after using it for a while, I now use it as the primary data store for all of my data.

  ### 47. Why I chose ArangoDB

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rudy S. | Expert IT Infrastructure Designer – MAM & Provisiong Engine Online, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Before I decided to take ArangoDB as the DB for our project I did a lot of comparing the different players on the market.
What struck me the most was the ease to get going with ArangoDB, both in installing and using it from our application which is entirely written in PowerShell. Manipulating the data using REST and AQL is just a dream come true. I really adore AQL.

Getting the other team members up to speed almost took no effort at all. The documentation is more than sufficient and yes, the training material could use some improvement compared to that other big name in NoSQL land, but I really did not miss it at all.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

The fact that Windows Server is not really considered as a production platform for ArangoDB is sad. Given the nature of our application, it has to be written on Windows and we (our team) only works on Windows servers.
For our project database size and numbers of connections are of less importance than the complexity of the application and the data models. A topic to be discussed with the ArangoDB staff.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Building a complete environment on their personal workstation by each and every developer of the team proved to be a very efficient way to get up to speed extremely fast.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our application is used by 100+ local IT teams to provision and manage everything related to Office 365 for their local user population.
This approach allows us to enforce a common way of working, adhering to the common business rules while allowing a maximum of flexibility and autonomy for each of them.

  ### 48. ArangoDB is my database for everything

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacob F. | Sr. Android Engineer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

AQL! Literally the easiest and easiest to understand query language I've used as of yet.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Nothing yet. ArangoDB seems to keep saying yes to everything I want to do.

**Recommendations to others considering Arango:**

Go for it, you won't go back.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The primary product I use ArangoDB for (vlllage.com) was suffering from sluggishness due to unoptimized querying on Google's App Engine, it was getting to the point where a single page load could take up to 30 seconds and I had to do something about it, so I looked around and decided to try ArangoDB. Could not be happier! Page loads are insanely snappy, and the setup was actually quite easy.
They also have a very nice admin interface. The primary query of the app (geo-locate + join relations + filter + sort by distance) needs zero workarounds. I now use ArangoDB for all new projects going forward.

  ### 49. Worth testing

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Layth Z. | Technology Expert, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

Graph analysis is very easy, the database helps a lot in connecting different entities rather than bringing them to Spark then try to find those connections, which gives a lot of flexibility and speed boost.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

No ANSI SQL support, I was hopping for SQL support, that was a disappointing thing to learn a new language. We use CQL at the moment, Spark SQL, and SQL on MySQL, now we have to adapt to AQL which is an unnecessary overhead in my opinion.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Graph analysis, rather than Spark + Cassandra, yet still experimenting.

  ### 50. Exceeded Expectations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris R. | Web Application Developer, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 23, 2017

**What do you like best about Arango?**

The query language, AQL, of course! I often found myself doing things in AQL that I would have before used a programming language.

**What do you dislike about Arango?**

Because it is young, there is less community support and fewer third-party packages available.

**What problems is Arango solving and how is that benefiting you?**
