There is a lot of similar functionality between Microsoft Word and Apache OpenOffice Writer. It is easy to learn the latter if you have any experience with the former. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Design of the page is important to me, and I often find that OO will display the text with improper kerning and leading. It will show some lines as being slightly too high/low, or letters too close/too far away from each other. Zooming out and in shifts the whole thing, so I can tell that it's not actually going to show that way when I export or print the file, but I wish I didn't see it while I was writing. Several things to like about OpenOffice but here are some of them:

- Is free and easy to use

- Supports all the documents created by MS Word

- Has all the features that you will ever need while working on the documents

The spreadsheet editor has an initial popup which is a bit hard to understand. It basically asks for delimeters and all but it becomes a little hard to understand. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
