The revision scheme and release systems do not handle prototype stage very well. I'd like to have prototype "releases" with a different revision scheme indicating a beta number. I found it easy to migrate from Cadence. Customer support was helpful the one time I needed it. I use it most days, and whenever I want to learn about a new feature there’s plenty of online help available. It also works well with my CAD package, since it can import DXF and STEP files. Starting from scratch, I was up and running within a few days. We recently moved to Altium Develop, which is more of a software-as-a-service product rather than a resident .exe. Unfortunately, the software crashes frequently without displaying an error report or providing a way to directly forward the error to support. This results in the loss of the current state if autosave is not enabled.

The support from the sales team was truly abysmal: emails were completely ignored, and we had to wait days for responses. Although we contacted them two months before the license expired, we were unable to work for several days due to the lack of a valid license. That was really BAD! The web UI is a little bit slow. Also, would be very useful to have a function to migrate altium 365 projects to standard git repositiries. The GUI scaling is a littl bit sluggish on 2560x1600 with 120dpi (96 dpi 1080p and 4k with 200dpi works like a charm) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I use Altium Develop for designing LED circuit boards, power supplies, nixie tube clocks, and other fun projects. The best feature for me is the ability to switch to the 3D board view, which allows me to visualize the layout and catch interferences easily. I love the software and how far it has come over the years. When I started using the software, there were no full libraries of the parts I use, so I created them and found it quite easy. I am annoyed with the new subscription model. I HATE that I go to start the program and then find that I need to login again and again. I wish that they would remember the last 2 computers used on an allow it to just start up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Working with Altium allows you to set up your environment exactly the way you like it (it's very configurable) and lets you automate most of the time-consuming labor. It feels like modern software, unlike some competitor software that feels like it was designed in the 80s and just keeps piling on top of an old architecture. The collaboration features added with Altium 365 are incredible, they have made the review process as well as working with mechanical and firmware colleagues MUCH smoother.

The combination of the new license tiers ("Develop", "Agile", etc) and the A365 workspace tiers ("Standard", "Pro", "Enterprise") makes it confusing to know what you're getting. Unlike Kicad, the process of adding commonly used general-purpose components (e.g., 0603, 0402 capacitors, etc.) is complicated. For the way I currently use Altium, most of what I need could honestly be done in KiCad as well. That makes the price harder to justify — the tool is capable, but I'm not using enough of its advanced feature set to feel like I'm getting full value at this cost. A 20–30% lower price point would feel much more proportionate to my actual usage. Alternatively, bringing back a perpetual license option would help a lot, since paying indefinitely for a subscription is a bigger concern for me than the absolute price itself. I like how Altium Develop consolidates the entire workflow process in a neat, easy-to-track way. We have constant revisions being worked on, and we can manage in a collaborative way, so the whole team is up to date in real-time on what is being worked on and when changes are made. I would like to have an easier way to alter custom part choices sinc, as we have many providers w/ special pricing that isn't covered in the current US/EU database. Implementing custom part choices that users can keep track of would be helpful, even if they aren't real-time, as it could ensure an accurate real-world BOM cost. Also, there's a bit of a learning curve involved in the initial setup. Additionally, it's quite expensive right now for smaller creators or companies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
