  ### 1. Knewton Alta - Best Adaptive Online Homework Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hadas M. | Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

I have started using Knewton Alta about 4 years ago, shortly after I started teaching co-requisite courses. I was on a search for an adaptive learning system that could identify knowledge gaps and provide the missing background as the students were working on an assignment. Knewton Alta was the best thing for my needs; my students love it, and it is super easy and intuitive to use both for instructors and students. It provides ample information such as the time it took to complete an assignment, the last time and date the student was last active, the time and date an assignment was complete, and much more. These features are very helpful for conducting and teaching co-requisite courses in an online or hybrid format.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Nothing! It's absolutely the best online platform out there, in my opinion.

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

If you care about your students' financial health, choosing alta is the best you can offer your students. It is cost-effective, user-friendly and helps build students' knowledge and confidence.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When a student is working on homework that requires some proficiency in basic topics, Alta provides any missing knowledge by introducing simpler questions, extra examples, and videos. It is truly an adaptive system. You can also set it up to allow late homework submission without a late penalty; it saves instructors time for setting up extensions, and it provides flexibility to students. Further, as an instructor, you don't need to review a long list of problems and pick the ones you want, but rather you pick objectives to include in an assignment. This saves time and makes it easy to create assignments and other assessments. Last but not least, Alta helps students develop a growth mindset as it provides positive feedback all along and ample opportunities to fix mistakes and progress with mastery.

  ### 2. Adaptive Learning with Alta

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

I like how students who understand the material can get through the homework quickly and students who need more practice get it. The fact the materials used are OER fits into the philosophy of my college. The overall cost to students is quite reasonable. And I love the integration of DESMOS with the homework and student instructional assistance.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

It is not always as clear what needs to be taught for each section unless you manually review each homework section's instruction. The OpenStax book for Statistics is not very robust, but Alta gets around that by supplementing with more materials (that are still open source).

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students with different prereq skills are able to complete the same homework without a 'one size fits all' number of questions. It also fits in with our Open Source model with a robust homework system.

  ### 3. Its one of best and holistic learning tools that I have used.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Priyanka K. | Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

The course structure and organization of content in terms of text and videos are beneficial. i personally love the assesments at the end of each module and helps to keep track of your progress and understanding of the course material.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

I have personally liked everything about the platform. I can recommend reviewing the cost of the subscription to make it as an competetive option for students and more video content on some topics.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a full-time professional, I have limited time to dedicate to extra course learnings. Still, Alta with its phone access feature, allows me to learn and study effectively on the go while traveling and during downtime at work which helps me to utilize my time effectively. One of the benefits that I have notice is, this application is really simple and even with very little knowledge, one is able to navigate their way smoothly through the application to complete the task at hand.

  ### 4. Great software at a great price!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

Alta is very easy to use for both the instructor and student. The objectives are clear and organized which makes creating assignments a breeze. The adaptive platform is especially appealing to my students. Gone are the days of every student getting the same assignment. Students get the right level and number of problems when they need it.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Most of the lower level classes at my school do not allow calculator use on exams. However, some problems in the alta assignment ask for approximations or use large numbers.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem alta has solved is giving students quality software at an affordable price. It's actually worth their time and money.

  ### 5. Alta has given students a positive learning experience in a corequisite course.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

Alta is customizable to the needs of the course I am teaching.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Some students don't understand the mastery platform and get frustrated when they are taken back to previous objectives.

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

Take advantage of the support team. They are committed to providing the best help and service to get the program up and running.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I teach algebra and students use Alta for homework. The explanations built into the homework experience has been positively received.

  ### 6. Great solution for all types of courses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John K. | Vice President, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

Easy to use for both instructors and students

**What do you dislike about alta?**

For some topics (not many), question types are limited

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

definitely do it!

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No problems but major learning gains from students

  ### 7. GREAT PRODUCT

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

I love Knewton's adaptability and the resources it offers instructors and the students. I also like it's affordability.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

I can't really say there's anything I dislike.

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

Give them a try, it's s GREAT product!

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't know what problems I'm solving, but I believe Knewton's price point helps students with financial challenges. Similar products are often way more expensive.

  ### 8. Knewton-Alta for Finite Mathematics

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

I love the adaptive homework assignments. It allows students who struggle on a specific topic to see similar questions until they grasp the topic. It also allows stronger students to complete their tasks quicker.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

I wish there were more questions in the question bank for homework assignments. It can become repetitive. Sometimes when new questions are released into the system there are a handful of typos in them as well.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Alta is a more adaptive program for (typically) first-year college students taking our course. It strengthens their mathematic skills as they progress through the course.

  ### 9. Great for co-requisite courses

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** LeAnn J. | Division Chair for Mathematics & Science, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

We are using Knewton for our co-requisite math courses. The homework really helps us to identify where our students need extra support.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

More homework problems need to be added to the current bank.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Although the homework can be time-consuming, our students' grades show improvement.

  ### 10. Knewton presents affordable adaptable options

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lori H. | Dean of Gen Ed & Assist Prof of Math

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

Knewton is the best option for our students due to its adaptability and affordability

**What do you dislike about alta?**

That you cannot update some things within the course once a student has started a section

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Knewton is one of the few options available for our course content needs

  ### 11. Alta is Working for my Studetns

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

Alta adapts to my student's needs, taking them back to review pre-knowledge when needed.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Students who try to cheat the system get overwhelmed because they get stuck in a cycle.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helped my students who have missing pre-req knowledge to achieve better in class.

  ### 12. great teaching tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2021

**What do you like best about alta?**

affordable, the mastery approach helps students learn the material

**What do you dislike about alta?**

the supplemental materials are either lacking or have several errors in them

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I provide Alta with feedback on what is good and what is not so good about the product.

  ### 13. Knewton Alta is truly adaptive

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joshua G. | Professor of Mathematics, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

The courseware is truly adaptive. It takes what the student is doing, analyzes it, and gives it questions and instruction where it predicts the student us currently in their learning. The knowledge map and deep analysis done truly helps students master the material and move on.
-note: the price is also amazing-

**What do you dislike about alta?**

I do not have anything bad to say. The service, quality, content, instruction, is all top notch.

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

I cannot recommend it enough. I think the big thing to keep in mind is that you cannot over communicate to your students that it very different than other courseware. They cannot guess their way though the homework. The Knerds will give you lots of suggestions (and even videos?) to help you have great implementation from the first semester.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Some student cannot simply do 20 problems and move on. They need extra practice on problems they are struggling with. It forces students to go through instruction and an example when they get a few wrong. I might place videos and notes before homework but I cannot force them to do it. This guides them there when they need it.

  ### 14. Great for Non-traditional Students

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michele B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

Alta is great at adapting to a student’s knowledge level and helping “fill the cracks” in their foundation. The ability for a student to remediate and review prior topics is great for students returning to school after an absence. This product has made all the difference for one of my non-traditional students as he is able to utilize readings and videos to review material from previous courses.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

I don’t have anything I dislike at this point, I think I just need further training on features beyond basic set-up.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving the problem of students being at different places in their background knowledge and abilities. Students who are missing prerequisites get extra review. Students who understand the material can move ahead quickly. And there is valuable practice for everyone in between.

  ### 15. Knewton Alta Statistics

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michele C. | Assistant Professor Of Mathematics, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

Students like the adaptive platform and it is easy for them to navigate. Also, any issues are quickly fixed.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

I don't like the supplementary material. There are many errors.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Alta has made it easier to teach my online class as students are learning within the lessons.

  ### 16. Knewton Alta is a Rock Star!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elwanda McKinnon C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

The adaptive feature of Alta is my favorite feature. This alone puts Alta a cut above the rest.. This empowers students by individualizing their experiences, and paves the way for their successes.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

In some cases, Alta presents problems unlike what we have included in our faculty-created workbook.

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

Alta’s adaptive feature is awesome!

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving the problem of helping students succeed in Quantitative Reasoning with suitable software . Benefits are ease of use and student empowerment.

  ### 17. Integrates easily with blackboard

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

Ease of use. Lots of support from knewton in setting up the course, back mapping to learning outcomes and real time help. It is affordable and adaptive. Personalized for each user yet I can control what topics students need to work on a given date.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Wush there was some screen filter which could prohibit Photomath from being used

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

Use the knewton content experts to help setting up the course and then take the time to go through each topic before going live

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Every student has purchased knewton because it is affordable. 25% of students in another class using another platform cannot afford to purchase that system. OER textbook is free to use and editable.

  ### 18. Alta helps students succeed.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

All the questions students are asked are prefaced with open source textbook instruction and videos. Students receive feedback when they answer incorrectly. They also receive instruction in steps they may have missed.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

It's not really a complaint, but they don't assess the same way I do, so I can't use it for testing.

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

Alta is a well crafted education support program.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Homework online, so instructor doesn't have to check work. There is more time for me to prepare for class.

  ### 19. Great program!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shushannah S. | PhD in Higher Education Administration: Educational Leadership, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

What I like the best is the adaptive nature of Knewton.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

I dislike the sometimes inflexibility of the program. Students state that they can only give answers in certain formats that often aren't expressly asked for. Mathematical answers can be different but equivalent. I wish the program could accept a greater variety of answer forms.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mainly use Alta to assign homework so that students can practice and get immediate feedback.

  ### 20. Knewton works very well for Algebra

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

The instruction pieces are very clear, and the students appreciate and learn easily from them. The adaptive part is simply the best. The price is right.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

The content is not rigorous for Trignometry or Calculus. I wish it were, because I would love to use it for all my classes, but there is basically one type of Trig word problem, and they give the student the triangle diagram.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows students to work individually on what they need more time on. It gives them feedback in real time and can help them re mediate gaps in their prior learning.

  ### 21. Easy to use, stronger content needed

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

Students receive instant feedback and guidance through questions. If students are stuck they can ask for help within the questions and practice more. It is easy to select content questions for assignments, quizzes, and exams. Normally content issues are addressed quickly. Easy purchasing and cost is great for students.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

It is limited on your control of types of questions within learning objectives. Some of the rigor of the questions are low.

**Recommendations to others considering alta:**

Build a relationship with your local representative from Knewton.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating exam reviews for students is easy! We are able to have uniform department standards for our courses.

  ### 22. Meaningful online homework

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John N. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

The homework system offered for statistics is great. It integrates problems that require the use of Excel.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

The homework for the liberal arts math course do not do a good job of helping students learn the content.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I have 100 students taking statistics it is prohibitive to grade homework myself. Alta does it for me.

  ### 23. Helping Student Succeed

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

Love that Alta is mastery based. When a student needs extra help in an area, Alta backs up and explains concepts that a student may have missed.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Sometimes content that is presented is turned around for students and they can't make that jump to something presented in class and they think it is a totally different concept.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I think Alta is very help for individualizing learning. Those students that can excel are not required to do 20 questions related to something they already know and they can jump right past that quickly.

  ### 24. Knewton is great, but has places to improve

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

Their product is very affordable. It is also developed in a manner that is accessible to students with special needs. The interface is elegant and user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Some content areas are at a level too high for the intended audience. Instructors do not have enough control to decide what is best for their students. Struggling students that don't ask questions spin their wheels in an assignment.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Course material costs is a lower barrier for students. Students also get remediation, if they are found struggling.

  ### 25. Knewton Alta

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 11, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

I like the adaptive features. It really helps with mastery without being redundant for students who "get it".

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Honestly I can't think of anything. I love it!

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Alta greatly reduces the time it previously took for assigning and grading homework and tests.

  ### 26. Great product!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

Adaptivity, ease of instructor use, availability of student data. I love that I can log into Alta, see every problem a student has attempted with a time and date stamp.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

That I can’t pick and choose questions or remove a certain style of question.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I hope that all of my students are discovering the holes in their mathematical background.

  ### 27. Promising software, more content support needed

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2020

**What do you like best about alta?**

I like student feedback and engagement for the assignments.

**What do you dislike about alta?**

I dislike the lack of support materials in subjects.

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Student engagement issues.

  ### 28. Great Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ernesto M. | Identification and Recruitment Migrant Education Program, Non-Profit Organization Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2018

**What do you like best about alta?**

Adaptive, easy to use, easy to understand

**What do you dislike about alta?**

Nothing at all... I love Knewton, great features

**What problems is alta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Learning process for ESL students
