Cloud access provides a websites available for both searching and circulation and of the system. Having issues with running the custom reports, MARC look-ups, or other amazing features, Alexandria Companion has amazing customer support. **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** The company offered an update that wasn’t to make the software more innovative and flexible. Unfortunately not everyone can get the update. They limited the amount with no real reason why. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** The Alexandria Library Management system manages circulation, inventory, and more of my library’s collection. This system does not integrate with third parties companies in which you may purchase materials. ### 2. We host ours in house but I can mange it from anywhere through the web GUI **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** Its a bit browser picky. When using Chrome I have no issues but with Firefox the refresh of the screen lags a bunch **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use this to mange our Library I wouldn't say we solved a problem with it.Its just the tool we use. ### 3. Every task one needs to perform in a library can be done easily with Alexandria. I did not purchase this initially; it was in place when I arrived but I understand the cost is quite reasonable. The customer service is STELLAR!!!! **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** The only downside is getting used to a new system if one has not worked on Alexandria before...which would be true with any new system. **Recommendations to others considering Alexandria:** If your district is looking at new circulation software, I would encourage you to look at Alexandria and compare it with other programs. I believe it offers more bang for the buck! **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** The procedures are easy to learn so after a few tries, I found myself not needing to look at notes. I have found it to be very user friendly and I can performs tasks quickly and easily. ### 4. I have been pleased with all that the system can do: create barcodes, library cards, inventory, database search, etc. **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** We recently upgraded to the v7. It doesn't feel as intuitive to me as the previous version. However, I am learning and playing around with it when I don't have students. I am sure it will just take some adjustment. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** The new v7 is more difficult to figure out the reports. The previous version was very easy to pull up the reports I needed. ### 5. I can see that if I were working in a public library or a larger school library, that this would cover all aspects of library management. **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** I would like to be able to write my own reports that would be more specific to my little library and my needs. **Recommendations to others considering Alexandria:** Great software **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** Working now on trying to figure out why the camera is not working now that I have a new Mac OS ### 6. The tech support has been amazing when we have struggled with our school network. **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** I haven't found a downside to Alexandria. We were asked to switch once and we refused because if it isn't broken don't fix it. in **Recommendations to others considering Alexandria:** I love the ease of use of Alexandria and the quality tech support I have received when needed. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** I like all the reports that can be generated for my administration so that they understand how important the library is to our district. ### 7. I like it. But there is so much to learn and I have very little time to spend learning everything there is to offer with this system. **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** Reports are hard for me to find. At least the one I would like. **Recommendations to others considering Alexandria:** Great Library system. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** So many reports. It has been hard for me to find just the right report. Also If there were a way to send a late slip to students that didn't use a whole paper. You may have this but I haven't found it yet. ### 8. It was pretty easy to use within the first few days. The customer service is fast and efficient as well. **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** I think updates are needed. For example, when I try to add a grade for a student/patron I type it in once and then the system makes me confirm that change again with a dropdown menu. I also needed to upgrade various patrons who had graduated to the next grade and had to upgrade them one by one instead of a whole group at a time. I believe this system can be more efficient. Also, a new contemporary design is needed. **Recommendations to others considering Alexandria:** It's a program that's widely used in the Library field. It's easy to use but I'm not sure if it has a future or not unless it updates their system to be more effiecient and with a cleaner interface. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** This is a great system to search for books and to find out what books are overdue and easily send renewal/late notices to patrons. ### 10. ASD has used Alexandria from Companion, for many years. Reports and statistics are very helpful as well. **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** Updates can cause some delays. Many times after there has been an update to the system there are delays and use is difficult for a short period of time. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** Library management system. This system keeps track year after year of statistical information that we frequently utilize for management of our library and the ability to analyze past strategies for improvement in our library management. ### 12. It is easy to navigate and has patron friendly user screens. I am able to add patron information so that students can check their accounts remotely. Students can create bibliographies and print them for later use. Overall, I have been pleased with the software. My only complaint is how charges are displayed. If I have a long line of students, I am required to do quick mental math because the charges are split up by their separate fees. **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** Alexandria is simple to use. What I do not like is how charges are deducted. I often have a long line of students and only a few minutes to get books checked out. Fines cannot be paid easily if there are fees from different books. Alexandria breaks up the fee and I am required to do quick mental math. It’s frustrating especially when odd numbers are displayed. **Recommendations to others considering Alexandria:** I like everything about Alexandria except the way fines are deducted from the charges screen. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** I really like that I can get tech support directly from my Alexandria program. Tech support usually gets back to me right away. ### 13. Often I have to search for how to do something or contact customer support. I am very comfortable with technology and can usually figure things out on my own, but Alexandria is different. **Recommendations to others considering Alexandria:** Research and use other systems before committing. Although Alexandria will get the job done, there are less expensive options. Additionally, if you order from Follett, Destiny has a lot of integration options that Alexandria does not. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** Alexandria allows me to run book circulation, catalog books, and run reports as needed. This is the minimum requirement for any library management system I would use, and it gets the job done. ### 14. I worked in a rural school that sometimes had internet outages and that would slow me down in my work. **What problems is Alexandria solving and how is that benefiting you?** Making sure there is a consistent internet connection when using the product. ### 15. Very simple design **What do you dislike about Alexandria?** Not meaty enough for the larger public library space. **Recommendations to others considering Alexandria:** We recommend this to smaller libraries on a tight budget. We really enjoyed it but found that we needed a bit more as we aged and grew. Staff loved it as it was easy to learn.
