That's just the start of it. It will turn into a maelstrom of spam bots that become unbearable -- at least for me. But as soon as I implemented Akismet, my spam all but disappeared. I can breathe again. In the words of Steve Jobs, "It just works." **What do you dislike about Akismet?** What I don't like about this service is the licensing service, which is muddy for me in operating a non-profit with zero finances available. **Recommendations to others considering Akismet:** This software just works. If you have to pay, it is worth it. The free version is lightyears ahead of where you would be without it. This worked so well, I didn't have to test other products or services. Even novices, like me, could figure it out. Like most of these 3rd party services for Wordpress, it is a pain securing an API key. But Akismet makes it fairly easy. **What problems is Akismet solving and how is that benefiting you?** Akismet has nearly eliminated my terrible spam problem I was getting on my comments section and contact forms on my Wordpress sites. ### 28. It is quite simple to use and setup, there is good documentation available on the Akismet website. It works pretty well to filter out spam most of the time, and I’ve never had an ounce of trouble with it. Akismet pricing has a basic plan that let you decide what Akismet is worth and then pay that amount. The Enterprise plan is affordable, consider that you can use it with large number of checks and unlimited sites. **What do you dislike about Akismet?** There are cases where Akismet alone is not enough to stop spam. A large number of spam submissions is generated by automated spam bots. But manually submitted spam submissions are also in huge numbers. So you might need to setup another layer of protection. Akismet can reduce spam to a tolerable level but it will not totally eliminate it. Also, while it is great at filtering spam submission, sometimes a legit lead can get caught in the filter. **Recommendations to others considering Akismet:** You need a spam blocker, Akismet protect your forms and save so much time **What problems is Akismet solving and how is that benefiting you?** My clients spend on Display Advertising which does generate spam leads until they figured out there is too much and they don’t have time to pull it all out. The volume of spam is just too much to deal with and Akismet help them save a lot of time and focus on running their business. ### 29. It comes by default with the installation of wordpress, we just have to configure it to obtain our API key. This plugin allows us to filter all comments with malicious content or appear to be spam, thus protecting us from one of the most common attacks on wordpress sites. It's pretty easy to use and the installation and activation is as straight-forward as a WordPress plugin can be. Once the plugin has been activated, you'll see a drastic reduction in spam comments. Several other popular WordPress plugins integrate with Akismet to benefit from the spam prevention capabilities it provides as well, and the API has always been reliable. The reports Akismet provides with the paid plans are also interesting to see (and provide a quick reference to demonstrate the ROI in time saved) **What do you dislike about Akismet?** It doesn't seem fair to criticize Akismet for this but as with any spam prevention solution, it's not perfect. Sometimes spam slips through the cracks, and other times legitimate comments are going to be erroneously marked as spam. Akismet does a great job, but it is most effective when it is a part of a larger collection of spam prevention tools, eg captchas and honeypots. **Recommendations to others considering Akismet:** Akismet is an effective tool to reduce spam comments and form submissions on your website. If you use Akismet along with other spam reduction techniques like Captchas and Honeypots, you will spend a minimal amount of time overseeing community interactions and reviewing form entries.
