What do you like best about Aiven for OpenSearch?

One of the best things about Aiven for OpenSearch is how effortless it makes the setup and management of clusters. Compared to other services like AWS OpenSearch, Aiven stands out with its straightforward interface and quick deployment. It takes care of the backend work, like scaling and backups, so you can focus on using OpenSearch rather than managing it. The transparent pricing is a big plus, too—no hidden costs or surprises, which makes budgeting easier. Plus, the support team is responsive and genuinely helpful, which is reassuring when handling complex data needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Aiven for OpenSearch?

One downside with Aiven for OpenSearch is that it can feel a bit limiting in customization compared to AWS, especially for those who prefer fine-tuning every aspect of their cluster setup. While Aiven’s simplicity is a strength, it may lack some of the advanced configuration options that power users or those with very specific requirements might need. Additionally, Aiven’s pricing, though transparent, can still be on the higher side for small projects or startups when compared to some alternatives. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"My Experience using Aiven for cloud based microservices"
What do you like best about Aiven for OpenSearch?

it's super easy to access info for connecting to the database from the CLI, through code or a GUI. The service itself is easy to automate through Terraform or the web. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Aiven for OpenSearch?

The logs are not very useful since you can't easily search or filter. it would be nice to be able to search/filter through your different services. The metrics overview is just a large list of charts and does not let you choose what you want to see. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The monitoring capabilities is limited to Influxdb/Grafana, and there is no default grafana dashboard so we have to build our own.

There is a way to get a Prometheus endpoint but as we don't have Prometheus it's not a solution for us.

Maybe a way to open the JMX port to enable more external integration will be a good addons. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Kyle Buzzell of Aiven for OpenSearch

Glad to hear you're getting what you need from our platform!

We will be adding topics UI in the future. In the meantime, you can use other open source tools such as Landoop topics UI, to connect to Aiven Kafka to view data in topics.

Just note that you will need a Business plan or higher to accomplish this. Here's an example of how you'd accomplish it:

$ docker pull landoop/kafka-topics-ui

$ docker run --rm -it -p 8000:8000 \

-e "KAFKA_REST_PROXY_URL=https://avnadmin:password@your-kafka-service.aivencloud.com:rest-port" \

-e "PROXY=true" \

landoop/kafka-topics-ui

Thanks for the feedback!
