**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

What I like best about Metaplane is its ability to proactively detect data quality issues before they affect downstream stakeholders. The automated monitoring, anomaly detection, and lineage visibility make it easy to identify root causes quickly. I also appreciate how seamlessly it integrates with modern data stacks and alerts only when something truly needs attention, reducing noise and improving overall trust in data

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

One drawback of Metaplane is that the initial setup and configuration can feel a bit time-consuming, especially when fine-tuning monitors for complex datasets. While the platform is powerful, getting the alert thresholds just right may require some trial and error. Additionally, advanced customization options could be more flexible for teams with highly specific monitoring needs

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane helps eliminate blind spots in data quality by continuously monitoring key tables, metrics, and pipelines for anomalies. Before using it, data issues often went unnoticed until they caused downstream reporting errors or impacted decision-making.

  ### 2. Metaplane Delivers Reliable Data and Seamless Workflow Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ahsan Y. | Customer Account Manager, Legal Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

What I appreciate most about Metaplane is the confidence it gives me in the reliability of our data. The platform is straightforward, intuitive, and integrates seamlessly with our current workflow.

The most valuable aspect is how rapidly it detects issues before they can impact stakeholders. Its automatic monitoring and clear alerts save us significant time and reduce stress. Ultimately, the greatest benefit is that our team can concentrate on generating insights rather than spending time constantly searching for errors.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

There’s very little I dislike about Metaplane. However, I have found that the initial setup and the process of fine-tuning alerts can be somewhat time-consuming. I would also appreciate having greater flexibility when it comes to customizing notifications and dashboards. Still, these issues are relatively minor compared to the overall value Metaplane delivers.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane helps us catch data quality issues before they impact reports or stakeholders. It solves the problem of not knowing when data breaks or changes unexpectedly. With automated monitoring and alerts, we can trust our dashboards and spend less time debugging. It’s made our data processes more reliable and our team more confident in the insights we share.

The ease of use with Metaplane is know for super quick to integrate. the customer support of Metaplane is having good response.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

I would like to say there is no dislike things about Metaplane. But I would like to say the Number features in Metaplane getting too many alerts especially in early setup or when sensitivity isn’t fine-tuned it may lead to teams ignoring them over time.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem that Metaplane benefiting me Strengthens to data teams with comprehensive observability. And it frees up valuable time for data engineers, analysts, and data scientists.

  ### 6. A Data Professional's Verdict: Metaplane Delivers Unmatched Data Trust and Quality

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

The best thing is its proactive, automated anomaly detection. It uses machine learning to catch data quality issues before they cause problems, saving us significant time and dramatically increasing trust in our data, all with surprisingly little setup effort.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Honestly, dislikes are minor. There's a slight learning curve for mastering the most advanced customization options, and like with any platform, we'd always welcome even more niche integrations in the future. But these are small points compared to its overall value.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We mainly use Metaplane to automatically monitor our key data assets for quality issues (like freshness, volume, or schema changes), proactively detect anomalies before they impact users, and quickly troubleshoot problems using its data lineage capabilities. It helps ensure our data is reliable.

  ### 7. Game-Changer for Small Companies

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Casey F. | Associate Data Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

As a startup engineer with fewer resources than a traditional large company, having near-real-time alerts for data quality and anomaly detection has proven invaluable. Metaplane's Slack integration makes it easy to identify issues, and the lineage tool helps pinpoint the downstream impacts of these failures. Within Slack, it's beneficial to be able to address issues and help train the model custom to our system.

Regarding the monitors themselves, the ability to write custom SQL has been valuable for us because they can be tailored for specific use cases. The customer support is great too - I can always get an answer to my questions within a couple hours.

Overall, Metaplane empowers data teams to stay ahead of potential issues, ensuring data quality and reliability without the need for constant manual oversight.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

The notifications can be excessive at times, as it takes a little bit to train the models.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane solves the problem of detecting and alerting me about data quality issues and anomalies in near real-time, enabling swift resolution and maintaining data integrity without constant manual oversight.

  ### 8. Excellent addition to our data stack

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** chris d. | Senior Analytics Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

One thing the data team really struggled with was not being the first to react to any data quality issues. Often it was the end user who was alerting us. Metaplane allowed us to be a lot more proactive ensuring the data team is the first to know about any issues. Integration with our data stack was also very easy and the support provided is excellent. The wider team find the lineage aspect very useful for understanding dependencies between tables.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

It can be quite noisy at first but the support to ensure you have the correct monitors on the most improtant tables soon enables you to become more targetted on what you monitor.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provides comprehensive monitoring of the quality of our data and ensures the business has trust in the data

  ### 9. Hard to imagine life without Metaplane

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Philip K. | Analytics Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2022

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Its simplicity. Its testing layer is effortless, and the slack integration asks you straightforward questions: is this change normal or an anomaly? Do you want to re-run the test or disable the test? We can help the model learn right there in Slack. Metaplane is effectively part of our team, like an extra person.

Also the onboarding is insanely quick and easy.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

They have imoproved tenfold on the initial design clunkiness. I am looking forward to them adding the ability to compare the contents of tables across databases to catch replication misses.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane solves data observability AND makes it something that a wider team of non-Data Engineers can engage with and understand. For example, a colleague who manages our Typeform surveys can use the Metaplane channel to see the downstream impact when they remove forms or make other changes in the Typeform UI. Within a few hours, Metaplane's notifications help us all understand which actions are detrimental to the data model without me needing to stumble upon the issue by chance.

  ### 10. Data observability - proactive instead of reactive

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel C. | Data Analytics Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane helps us as a data team understand many different aspects of our warehouse including data freshness, model lineage, and usage of our data sources. It sits silently processing while alerting us of issues before our business stakeholders surface them, helping our team save credibility.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is growing out of its infancy and may not have all of the features an enterprise product may need. Although they are very open to feedback and are very willing to implement features based on customer feedback.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane helps us in a few key aspects:
  - understand when there may be a bottleneck with our ETL tools by providing predictive models for not only expected load times but also total records being loaded
  - visualize data lineage from raw source data to dimensional modeling to bi tools, helping better understand business impacts of modeling changes
  - surface long-running and expensive queries to allow us to fine-tune usage to provide a better experience for our end users while minimizing cost
  - provide tracking of new and updated schema inside our warehouse

  ### 11. Essential Tool for Data Teams

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dave F. | Senior Analytics Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane has been great for monitoring anomolies in our data and for doing QA on any changes in our code. The CI and alerting capabilities are very easy to set up. I have also really enjoyed using the column level lineage that goes all the way down to our BI tool. This makes assessing the impact of a code change much easier than before. Additionally, the variety of monitors that can be set up is wide and has continued to improve. We have taken advantage of the partitioned monitors to track changes within a specific time period. Overall, this is an excellent tool for data teams and saves us tons of time!

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

The alerts can be a bit noisy and it takes some time tweak them so they are prividing the insights you want. I also would love to see a more detailed data diff feature in addition to the testing/impact previews that you get from the CI. Being able to identify the specific rows that are drivers for any change in the complexion of a data set would make debugging that much quicker.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane is helping us monitor changes in key models in a simple way, without having to write or maintain our own custom testing. It is saving us tons of time by assessing the impact of a change in our code, from immediate downstream models all the way to our BI tool, at the table and column levels.

  ### 12. Swiss Army Knife of Data Quality Monitoring

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Schylar B. | Analytics Engineering Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane not only helps our team with data quality monitoring (test failures, alerts, etc) but also with determining cruft in our data model. Receiving alerts about data issues on upstream models is a huge improvement as it helps us triage and solve issues before they reach downstream data users. Metaplane UI is easy to navigate and the Slack integration is key - once you set up your tests, you don't need to spend a lot of time in the app.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

I wish Metaplane had a connection with Hightouch (alongside their Looker & other downstream connections) to help with lineage. However, they are actively working on this so I'm excited to utilize it once available! Additionally, aggregated data or metadata would be nice so we could better access data performance over time. Lastly, lineage on production database schema changes lineage would be amazing (not sure if that's possible though...)

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since we don't currently have a failproof process for discussing schema changes within the data and engineering org, Metaplane is crucial in informing us of schema updates that may have a large impact on our downstream models. Metaplane helps us determine user errors when related to data and what models are the most and least used.

  ### 13. Essential tool for any data stack

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan B. | Co-founder/CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane has become a critical part of our stack. It gives us visibility into issues before they become problems for the larger org and saves us countless hours.

It is incredibly easy to set up. They have one of the most impressive onboarding flows of any data tools I've worked with. We are able to run quality tests at scale with very little setup so the time to value was very quick.

It's also super flexible. They are contiously adding new types of automated tests but it's easy to configure more complicated/custom tests for anything that isn't covered out of the box.

They provide first class support which is rare these days.

In summary, Metaplane gives our small team incredbile leverage to be able to punch above our weightclass.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

There isn't anything significant I don't like.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane is built to find and alert you of data issues. It allows us to play offense rather than playing wack-a-mole putting out data quality fires.

  ### 14. Makes data anomaly tracking easy!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gabe S. | Director, Data, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

It was easy to set up Metaplane and connect it to our snowflake warehouse, and their team walked us through how to maximize the monitoring setup for our use case. The most critical tests for us are data freshness and row count monitors from our third-party database connections, and these tests are reliable and timely in providing alerts that something is off. We've set up slack alerts to keep our whole team in the loop, and even tried out the API for custom use cases.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Occasionally the freshness monitors don't capture non-standard/unusual data patterns, though the metaplane team did roll out a nice improvement in those models this year.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a CRM for car washes, and we integrate with the major car wash point of sale systems by establishing read-only database connections to their systems. These database connections can have issues for a variety of reasons, and staying on top of connectivity is mission critical for our CRM functionality. Metaplane gives us one, live place to track all of our database connections and whether there are any issues with freshness or row counts when querying these tables. Additionally, we've used metaplane to send us custom alerts on internal metrics or database tables that are behaving anomalously.

  ### 15. Co-Founder, Data Engineer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roland C. | Data Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is hands down the easiest and most useful data observability tool on the market. We use it to monitor failures and anomalies across all of our clients' data stacks. Most monitoring tools are difficult to set up and can’t differentiate between critical and non-critical failures, which results in notification fatigue. Metaplane is the opposite. Metaplane is quick to configure both from the start and on an ongoing basis. It automatically differentiates between critical and non critical failures, making it an extremely actionable data observability tool.

With Metaplane we are able to easily and accurately test our own ETL pipelines and the outputs of our data models and catch errors before business users even know anything is wrong. This helps maintain our reputation as a data engineering org and also saves our clients a ton of time and money, especially when we catch errors related to data integrations that power revenue-generating flows or advertising data where the cost of mistakes is high.

Metaplane is now a default part of our data stack whenever we add a new client.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

We’re really satisfied customers. We recommend Metaplane to pretty much every data team we meet.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For us Metaplane solves:

1) Monitoring ETL pipelines for failures or abnormal data
2) Monitoring modeled data for abnormalities before it gets to a business user
3) A simple and effective way to surface data issues via Slack or the UI.

The benefit of using Metaplane is that we avoid failures and mistakes that are costly in terms of our data team's reputation and in terms of clients who are using their data to generate additional revenue where the cost of inaccurate or missing data is high.

  ### 16. Catching Data Quality Issues and Insight into our Data Usage

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan W. | Head of Data, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

It is monitoring all of our data systems across many different tests to detect anomalies and let us know when errors are detected. It helps me understand when our data systems are changing, when user behavior changes, and what the downstream effects of the data quality issues are. We are easily able to turn on many different kinds of tests depending on the type of data.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

They aren't proactive enough about adding new tests when new tables are created. It feels like an obvious next step for them, and it's a nice to have since I can always go in and review the full suite of tests whenever I want.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We know when key business metrics are changing (good or bad), when things break, and ensure that we're the first to find out that something is broken rather than a executive asking why something is broken or looks wrong.

Having confidence in your systems and data is a key part in making sure that your organization has confidence in you as a leader and your team.

  ### 17. An easy to use solution that builds trust in our data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Our biggest challenge at our company is that we struggled to identify issues with the quality of our data before the business. Metaplane has enabled us to identify 2 major incidents before the business whilst only using it for 1 month.

It learns the behaviour of our data, and the support the Metaplane provide as you onboard onto the solution is second to none.

It is very simple to implement with our warehouse, and we were able to monitor our critical assets within seconds.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Its not a metaplane problem, but lack of data lineage capability for Microsoft products due to no metadata. This would be fulfilled if we used a different tool.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its identify anomolies within our data and pinpointing when these changes happened, an operations process caused us to delete 1m records within the database. It supported us in identifying when this happens to support us in pinpointing the root cause of the problem.

  ### 18. Easy Implementation and Great Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Celina W. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

You can quickly get up and running in a short period of time. No long wait for an implementation team. Very affordable compared to other tools out there offering similar solutions. It was easy to integrate with our tech stack and we quickly got customer support when we want to learn more about how to best use Metaplane.

Love the ability to see the root cause upstream and lineage makes it easy to visualize where the dependencies are.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

It is easy to set up too many alerts so be thoughtful about what is setup versus monitoring the whole database.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane is alerting us when there are changes that happen in the database (ie. new column, changes in row count to a data table, drastic swings in metrics due to engineering changes that were not communicated). The monitoring allows us to catch the issue before an executives tells us the numbers are wrong.

  ### 19. Strong founding team, strong user empathy, great product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ian M. | Head of Analytics, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is a product designed by a team that's extremely knowledgeable and empathetic about the plight of the modern data professional. They are building a best-in-class tool they are strongly opinionated about, without expandind into surface areas that don't make as much sense. We found that Metaplane quickly gained adoption from our less technical counterparts. The same people that were most impacted by an unexpected anomaly were the first to learn Metaplane and help idenfity their own issues. Overall - a great product that literally gets better every day. We knew we were going to buy it after our first sales call.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

I don't have any complaints about Metaplane. It's deliberately not a tool for everything, it's a finely crafted tool for a specific use case. Anything I dislike gets fixed by the end of the week.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our data team has many aggregations that are production grade outputs. We can't write determinstic tests on everything, we need some sense of stateful anomaly detection (i.e. this is wrong based on what it used to look like). Metaplane is a tool that lets us quickly instrument those surface areas and gain confidence with our third party partners by detecting issues proactively.

  ### 20. Great product, better team!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is a great observability tool. It covers most tools in a modern data stack, has a friendly UI that is easy to understand and integrate, and their support team couldn't be more responsive and helpful to our needs even after the POC has ended.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is a growing company which means features do release on a roadmap-basis, but I have no bad things to say about Metaplane!

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy-to-setup monitoring for our data warehouse and integrated tools

  ### 21. The tool everyone data-driven company needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis C. | Senior Data Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane fills a gap related to data observability that everyone needs, but tipically does not know about It. It has a great UI with many features.
Anyone can use with no need to technical expertise.
In terms of technology, It is extremelly easy to set up everything and has multiple ways of integrating with other tools.
The team is constantly adding new features to enhance the product.
The support is the best I have ever seen. We don't only get answers fast, but also code enhancements.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

In a company that has so many data, monitoring everything and solve the issues may be difficult.
In special when the algorithm is in the beginning of adaptation.
Metaplane would be better if there is a better way to stablish governance. Like: suggest owners based on data usage, owner focused vision to issues, etc.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We could find tables that stopped to be updated and no alerts came from DAGs. Also, we could see clear problems with the consistency of some data.
Metaplane is not fully implemented, but we expect that people question the necessity of some data, snowflake costs, etc

  ### 22. A must-have tool for data observability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen C. | Data Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Super-quick to get to value on day one. Implementation is extremely easy, pointed metaplane to our data warehouse, slack, and our BI tool, selected key tables, and it learns what normal operations should look like.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

It was a little noisy at first while learning about anomalies, but it quieted down quickly after marking alerts as "normal".

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane has significantly improved our stakeholder trust in the data as it proactively alerts our team about potential issues with our ETL. The data lineage view is excellent, helping our team identify seldom used objects to retire.

  ### 23. Metaplane is a time saver

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane makes setting up data observability a breeze. Setting up monitors on critical data sources is as easy as a few button clicks. When it comes to our dbt project, the monitors as code functionality allows us to add version control around any potential changes thare are made for monitoring our stack.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

The biggest downside of Metaplane is how new the tool is. There are some features or functionality that we hoped existed but the team at Metaplane is very receptive to feedback and has a quick turnaround for fixes or explanations

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane is solving the problem of our stakeholders finding problems before we do. This has helped bolster the conficence of the business around our data quality, which in turn frees up more time for the data teams.

  ### 24. Transforming Data Quality with Metaplane - A Must-Have for Data Teams

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mariem K. | Lead Analytics Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Very intuitive and easy-to-use platform for data observability. Gives you great insights into how your data is changing over time, and what changes are anomalous vs expected. After just a few months we've already caught a number of existing issues that had been going undetected. And the team has been super helpful and responsive throughout our rollout!

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Managing monitors via yaml can be a bit more built out—debugging the config can be challening when something isn't working as expected.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane allows us that our data is changing over time in the way that we expect it to.

  ### 26. One of the best data observability tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** E. Christopher U. | Staff Data Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

My favorite part about Metaplane is the very simple setup of connections and anomaly detection monitors. For the vast majority of our use cases, the default monitors and alerts are exactly what we want, and the fact that we don't need to manually configure each one is great. In addition, the schema change alerting has given us much better visibility into some of our processes and is used daily in a few cases with no significant effort implementing it.

The lineage that Metaplane provides between all of our systems has also been an invaluable asset as it's provided us with clear data during impact analyses when drastically changing or removing parts from our platform. It's become a consistent piece of our workflow on a regular basis.

For a data observability platform, it is everything we've been looking for from simple implementation and integration to consistently providing valuable insights into our processes.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

The only concerns or complaints about Metaplane would be some of the periodic changes to the anomaly detection algorithms result in alerts being raised when they shouldn't be, especially in degenerate/obvious cases (e.g. constant row counts). Having some release/update info would be nice and alleviate concerns when those alerts are raised (It might exist, but I haven't come across it).

One other piece that has some room for improvement is the lineage explorer UI. There are some cases where trying to explore the column-level lineage doesn't seem to work correctly and is missing downstream objects. It's also tedious to look through columns in a table individually when determining more precisely downstream effects

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use metaplane as our data observability platform for insights into lineage and freshness from data ingestion through exposure in our BI tool. It allows us to catch any issues much faster than waiting for problems to creep up downstream during data quality checks or evern during analysis. We've also used it to determine change impacts to all downstream models and consumers when drastic changes are required.

We also use it for database/data warehouse monitoring to catch unexpected schema changes regardless of where they occur in our processes. It also gives us some simple audit information for more manual users within the database.

  ### 27. Best reliable and quick data quality monitoring tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jitender S. | Data Enigneer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Ease of creating tests with just a few clicks and feature of using custom test scripts to monitor better data quality. Metaplane uses historical metadata to detect anomalies, making it a unique data monitoring tool.
I appreciate how the Metaplane team constantly works on provided feedback and keeps enhancing the tool.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Not to dislike. I like to have access to Metaplane historical metadata, which can help identify the impacted areas (impacted dashboards).

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane is helping us identify ETL failures in real-time. Providing confidence in the quality of data.

  ### 28. Our source of truth for car wash database replication issues

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

It's very easy to use and quite intuitive. By the click of just a few buttons, I can easily set up a monitor on the tables that I care about and never have to worry about it again until Metaplane notifies me of replication issues!

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Since all monitors are created manually, sometimes it's hard to know if we've forgotten to add monitors to any new client databases. Some sort of smart alerting or monitoring for new databases without any monitors would be excellent.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our company replicates car wash point of sale databases that use archaic architecture and are quite susceptible to replication failures. Metaplane is our primary tool for staying on top of stale data and getting ahead of the problem before our customers even notice.

  ### 29. Easy to use data observability platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

It's easy to set-up new data monitors across our entire data stack. This increases coverage of our models ensuring our team produces high quality datasets for the entire organization.

Metaplane provides a wide range of monitor types so that we can test different aspects of our data.

The Metaplane team is very receptive to product feedback.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

There's some trial and error needed to fine tune the monitors and reduce false positive alerts.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane allows us to monitor our data quality. Previously, we relied on finding errors through failures in our data pipeline or stakeholders raising issues about "questionable" numbers in the reporting. Now we're able to proactively identify problems and fix them before it becomes a wider issue.

  ### 30. very helpful for proactive data quality alerting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

The value prop for me as the leader of the team is that metaplane often times points out problems that without it would be pointed out by one of our stakeholders. The more data issues that come up the less our stakeholderst can trust the data. By staying on top of issues with automated responses from metaplane we can fix issues much faster before our stakeholders are effected.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

I don't have alot of downsides I can think of -- it does the job and it fits well within our stack.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly alerting potential data quality issues to our team via slack. It also helps us stay on top of our snowflake costs. Before introducing this feature with metaplane there were a few instances in which an issue in our pipeline caused our snowflake costs to skyrocket. This feature allows us to stay on top of this and keep our daily costs within an acceptable range.

  ### 31. Versatile and Easy to Use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathaniel P. | Senior Data Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

I loved how easy Metaplane was to get set up. The time to recognize value was very quick. As a data quality tool, it does exactly what you would expect it to do, and more. The integrations with Tableau and data lineage feature are superb. Mostly, I like that it just works. The alerts we get from Metaplane are clear, on time, and actionable.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Missing native integrations with Segment, but this is almost a non-issue since Segment has alerts of their own.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a data engineer, Metaplane fills a gap by catching errors in data pipelines that might not be caught by other platforms. It's a catch-all tool for making sure all of our data is clean and up to date.

  ### 32. Great Product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2023

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Its ability to track lineage in our data warehouse has been so crucial in some high impact data migration efforts we are doing. This has helped us track the depdendecnies between our tabels and ensure that we minimize the impact of our transition on our stakeholders.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Probably the number of alerts that are being generated. It takes some time to refine the monitoring to only get alerts that are impacting the business

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We solving our third party integrations and detererming if our data is fresh and up to date for our end internal users. By knowing when things are stale we can address and at least alert the business.

  ### 33. Metaplane helps our small team build confidence in all parts of our data stack

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 04, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane was quick and easy to set up, integrated with almost every tool in our data stack, and delivered valuable insights from day 1. This powerful tool allows our small data team to build trust in our business data, and find issues before our end-users do. We are quickly notified of any schema changes and data anomalies, and can take action to resolve issues as soon as they arise.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane has a great feature around impact analysis of code changes. The one downside of this is that there is a lot of information to parse through. Customer Support has been very receptive to our feedback in making this feature more actionable for our team.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane monitors patterns in our entire data stack, whether that be schema, table freshness, row count, or other critical data aggregations, and alerts us when there are any anomalies. We have been burned many times in the past by partially missing data and unexpected changes upstream, but Metaplane gives us the confidence that we understand everything happening in our robust data stack, and can catch issues in a timely manner.

  ### 34. Metaplane detects problems in the data that other alerting misses.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane examines the shape and content of data in the db/dw, learns what 'normal' is, and raises alerts when the data falls outside of a configurable sensitivity band. This allows it to surface issues within the data itself, such as anomalous high/low values or row counts, as well as monitoring latency. The upshot is that metaplane will notify you of unexpected conditions in the data even when all of your pipelines are functioning perfectly and no other alerts are going off-- allowing you to investigate and address issues before the end users ever see them.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

There are a few limitations-- opsgenie is not natively supported, for example, so we have to use a workaround (zapier) to trigger alerts in our on-call system. None of the limitations are significant, however, especially when compared to the insights you will get from Metaplane.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As I described above, Metaplane notifies us when there are unexpected conditions in the data itself. On several occasions, Metaplane has notified us of upstream problems before any other alarms had gone off and in at least one case, notified us of a problem that could not be detected by any other alerting.

  ### 35. Best in class data monitoring coupled with top of the line support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Before Metaplane, our data team operated primarily in a reactive state when it came to data quality and latency. We manage 80+ data integrations, and if one of them starts to fail, we often don't know until an end-user reaches out about a data discrepancy in one of their reports, which can sometimes be weeks later.

Now we can be alerted of potential data issues with 24 hours, and can often mitigate those issues before they are ever noticed by the consumers of our data. Metaplane offered us an almost immediate ROI, after a very quick and painless onboarding period.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

As a newer product, sometimes Metaplane hasn't considered all of the possible ways in which a dbt/tableau pipeline may be configured. In some cases we've found that our specific configuration is not interpretted correctly by Metaplane's lineage feature. However, this has so far always been addressed rather quickly through their incredible support team.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane solves two core problems for us: monitoring and data transparency/lineage.

On the scale between reactive and proactive, Metaplane has shifted our organization heavily towards the proactive side. Prior to Metaplane, we were often oblivious of data issues for days or even weeks after they started, relying on end-users reporting discrepancies. Now we can catch issues within 24 hours, and often resolve them before it ever gets into the hands of a consumer.

  ### 36. One of the best Tool for data quality monitoring

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maxwell M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Ease of setting up monitors to enforce data quality.Metaplane provides a user-friendly interface for configuring and managing these monitors.
Lineage Visualization helps to understand the data flows through different systems and transformations
Metaplan is most useful in tracking schema changes, freshness of data which has impact on the business critical reports.
Integration with Jira for incident creation and Slack for notications and alerting has been great.
Overall, it seems like Metaplane is a comprehensive data management tool that addresses various aspects of data governance, data quality, and data usage tracking. It helps organizations maintain and leverage high-quality data assets effectively.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane Product engineers are quick in taking care of your new feature request. So there is nothing i dont like about the tool overall.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We ingest data from multiple sources into our warehouse. scheme change and data freshness was a big challenge for maintaining the downstream reports and models.
Metaplan has definately helped in solving those major issues.

  ### 37. Metaplane delivers on everything it promises

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tim J. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

The speed at which the product moves is impressive. We see improvements we were thinking of asking for come into play, and have come to rely on metaplane as a team, which is very important for a monitoring tool. The column-level lineage is the best we've seen across tools and there have been several instances where we were able to proactively fix an issue, avoiding p0 incidents.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

I think the lineage graphs can be difficult to work with when there's many nodes, but I've seen improvements to this side of the tool recently and know Metaplan is working hard to make it better.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane helps us keep our warehouse and destinations in-sync with a variety of monitoring capabilities. One important use-case Metaplane handles is understanding the trends around table metadata; we can see how our data grows and can form expectations around it. Also, we're able to easily see downstream lineage impact from schema changes, allowing us to deploy quickly and confidently.

  ### 38. Essential addition for data observability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

- Painless setup and integrations. Everything works as expected following the instructions
- Easy to use for all audiences. Intuitive for both technical and non-technical users with simple navigation and buttons
- Responsive team that is always looking for feedback and executes on it quickly. Lots of improvements coming out all the time
- The product makes it easy to trace our entire data lineage from Fivetran, dbt, Looker, Hightouch, and more
- Data monitors help us catch and debug issues proactively before they are found in dashboards or by customers
- CI/CD checks prevent us from making data transformation mistakes and reduce the time we spend validating business logic changes
- Alerts improve trust that our data is behaving as we expect
- Product is used frequently by many teams including Data, Engineering, Product, Finance, and more

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

- There are a number of Quality of Life improvements that would be beneficial such as filtering and sorting options. Their team is aware of these and adding more each update.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane alerts us of anomalies in our metrics that would otherwise not be caught by the Data team (eg. user logins suddenly decreasing). The anomaly detection model learns about these metrics over time and automatically adjusts what the expected range should look like. It helps us debug issues so that we can resolve them before customers or internal data-consumers encounter them. This improves trust in our data across the company.

The CI/CD feature automatically validates our data transformation changes to ensure that business logic is correct (eg. it will tell us if a change will have adverse affects on an important data table). This prevents business logic errors and keeps our data quality high.

Metaplane integrates with our entire data stack and can help us trace the lineage of a data field to it's source. It tells us the potential impact of a change so that we know what will be affected. It unlocks insights about our data pipeline runs and usage analytics that we would otherwise not know about. This has helped us increase our data pipeline speed by removing unecessary tables and logic.

  ### 39. Great, effective tool and a great team with room to scale

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicole D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

- easy to implement lots of monitors using dbt yaml, and I really value the ability to adjust monitors en masse with the dbt yaml as well
- pretty easy to connect to our BQ project and to our dbt Cloud project
- the team is responsive, helpful, and smart
- we have caught data issues on our end in record time which is the goal!

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

- We are trying to implement tens of thousands of monitors, with a pretty unique data warehouse structure, so there is room to grow with some of features specific to our instance. But, Metaplane is working with us to implement new features that meet our needs.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane is helping us to monitor our raw data before it heads into our data warehouse transform pipeline. This helps us capture upstream data issues on either our end or the customer's end, and helps us to resolve the problem quickly.

  ### 40. Helpful tool for monitoring our data for abnormal trends

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brad P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

It integrates with slack so we can monitor it along side our other systems. It also auto-tunes its ranges so overtime it begins to understand our business

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

It doesn't handle planned spike in data points well. I wish there was a way to let it know in advance a spike is coming so we could get ahead of the alert storm it can create in those situations.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us understand the ebbs and flows of parts of the system by tracking ranges for particular data points and when something is off-normal, it fires an alert to us to investigate.

  ### 41. An incredible tool for monitoring your data's health

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dave A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is extremely easy to set up and scale detailed testing to a large amount of data assets. I love the depth of testing it allows you to structure- from basic tests such as uniqueness and freshness to more complex detection of cardinality changes or custom test configuration.

Lineage is another huge feature- Metaplane allows you to see downstream dependencies all the way through to the BI layer, so you know exactly what data assets (including Dashboards) will be affected by a code change.

Metaplane's CI/CD integration with git is great also, where it highlights the specific changes in columns' values from your PRs. For business logic changes, this is an extremely useful way to know exactly what the impacted tables/columns will be, and the degree to which they'll be impacted, allowing for a more thorough audit before deploying code to production.

The team is highly engaged and quickly turns around support requests.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

There really aren't many downsides to speak of.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane highlights potential issues in data assets before they become problematic, and provides lineage to showcase impact of changes.

  ### 42. Metaplane has massively increased our data visibility and monitoring

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

What has impressed me most about Metaplane is the easy to use, out-of-the-box data monitoring capabilities. This has allowed my team to become proactive, rather than reactive, to data quality incidents. Metaplane also has column-level lineage that has been a game changer for us as we make changes to our data models. All of this has contributed to Metaplane becoming a valuable tool to our team for proactively fixing data quality issues and maintaining trust in our data.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

There is nothing at this time I can say I dislike about Metaplane. There were a few when we first adopted the tool, but the Metaplane team has continued to iterate on the product increasing the experience.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Metaplane solves data monitoring, alerting, and lineage. With monitoring, lineage, and incident management, we are now first to know about data quality issues.

  ### 43. Eyes where you need them

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2024

**What do you like best about Metaplane?**

The core product works exactly as described, which is not always easy to come by. It quickly became an integral part of our data stack and was one of the missing pieces that we needed.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Still need to work out some kinks in the models for cyclical data. It is great for data that has a regular trend but will calculate thresholds in the negatives when a number could not go into the negative.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The primary problem it is solving is data observability. It allows us to move our freshness testing out of dbt, which is great to avoid code changes as our business evolves. Additionally, we use it for row count checks on all tables. We have a few other specialized monitors such as sum and median testing.

  ### 44. Best in class data observability tool

Metaplane provides great insight into our data. We use the tool frequently to enforce data quality through easy-to-set-up monitors. In addition, Metaplane visually displays data lineage and query usage. Setting up Metaplane was extermely easy as well. In a few clicks, the integration was complete.

I enjoy the close relationship with the Metaplane team. They are serious about making improvements to an already very useful product.

**What do you dislike about Metaplane?**

Metaplane is not a mature product. It is still in a state of flux. As such, some features are not yet developed and UI components change. The Metaplane team is open about this state of affairs since they are still building out the product.

**What problems is Metaplane solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data quality -- Knowing when issues occur as close to real-time as possible
Data lineage -- Understanding where database objects are used downstream whether in other objects or in queries

  ### 46. Great for both prod and dev environments
