## About gnucash
GnuCash is personal and small-business financial-accounting software to track bank accounts, stocks, income and expenses.

## gnucash Reviews
  ### 1. One of the best accounting software's in the market

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rishabh J. | Associate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2022

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

1. Its simple and easy to implement
2. Economical and user friendly
3. Provides one stop solution for all accounting and business needs
4. Simple to understand and implement

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

Multi user sync should be available for multiple user to login at the same time with different devices. Otherwise its absolutely perfect

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes accounting and recording transaction with the help of a click. Its saves huge cost to the organization in respect of money and employee training cost. Moreover its really easy to understand and interact and its economical thus even small organisations can easily implement it

  ### 2. Gnucash - Simple and straigthforward

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kyle H. | Principal, Education Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

What was most helpful about Gnucash was that it forced me as a user to use a zero-based accounting method to track income and procurements for the school that I was part of at the time. This was a completely different system than I had used, but it seemed to help me keep things straight when it came to accounting.

Additionally, the very simple interface allowed me to navigate to the most necessary parts of the software very easily and very simply. There was not a whole lot of distractions in the interface that got in the way of me being able to perform the work that I needed to perform with the software. For folks who are new into accounting and tracking, it seemed that gnucash was the ideal piece of software that would help me be able to track items in a very particular and specific manner.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

The software was not cloud based so I was tied to my office computer when I was using it, which turned out to be a blessing in that it kept me focused on using it instead of knowing that I could be distracted by getting off task.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Be sure you know whether you need a cloud based system or one that can work only on a desktop computer.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gnucash was very simple software that I used in order to keep track of our school's funding sources and what we were purchasing with the funding.

  ### 3. Multiplatform, stable, simple and protects your pocket.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samuel Alberto J. | Diseñador, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

Nowadays, with so much haste that they appear in daily life, it is difficult to keep an account on account of finances. That's why I like GnuCash, I have a program that analyzes and takes into detail all my finances and those of my company, from its implementation I have managed to solve financial gaps that I did not see before. I really like the possibility it offers you to work your finances on multiple platforms, you can use Gnucash from a Windows operating system to an Android smartphone. Also, I like the free license they give you for your personal finances or to keep organized the finances of your business. For entrepreneurs, it is an effective solution, and the presentation of accounting balances is the best, with graphs that show the evolution of financial execution.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

It really is wonderful, it is unfair to describe any of its features negatively, but if it would be advisable to have an improvement to your web portal, this does not mean that the performance is negative, at all, only that they could reach new customers with an impact interesting visual Of the rest I have no additional element to highlight, it is a great innovation.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Any organization that seeks to reduce costs and expand the productive economic capacities of the company must implement GnuCash, it also works for personal finances so there is no problem to adapt to the financial environment you want. I have recommended it to several friends after using it and have sent their thanks for presenting this great tool.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main benefit is the economic savings through the use of software, similar commercial options offer the same, or fewer capabilities than GnuCash, due to high costs. In our case, they offer us resources that can be managed by specialized personnel and by other people in the organization who can evaluate the performance of your department for the goals of the company. It is much easier for team meetings to have GnuCash statistics than to go to the presentation of results or progress without them, it is a practical solution that helps you to minimize failure.

  ### 4. An usable and full-featured personal and small-business accounting system.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Miguel Angel A. | Instructor Professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

The best thing about Gnu Cash is it's friendly user interface that allows you to set-up your accounting and start registering transactions right away. The program is very easy to use and comes packed with an inbuilt tutorial in it's help files that is pretty much all you need to start working with it.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

It's report generation features could certainly use some work in my opinion. Gnu Cash can generate a set of standard reports like cash flow and such, but the presentation of them is somewhat ugly in my opinion. Another thing is that in it's latest version, there is no way to easily import the data from it's companion expenses tracking application for the Android operating system.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

For personal finances Gnu Cash has been an invaluable tool for me. I have not used it's small business oriented features so I cannot vouch for them. The system is also properly identified as an accounting management tool for individuals, households and small businesses, so I don't think it could be of much use to medium and big enterprises. Also, it works in Linux, Windows and macOS, so it should be easy enough to try it and see if it works for you.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gnu Cash to manage my personal finances, specially to keep track of the accounts I have in online payment systems and in foreign currency. So far, Gnu Cash has allowed me to keep track of my online expending habits.

  ### 5. GnuCash is wonderful solution! Free deliverables

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan S. | Chief Executive Officer, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

GnuCash allows you to track bank accounts, stocks, income and expenses. It's an easy platform to navigate through. Used this solution when I first launched my start up. Great to track tons of info that helped me save time + money.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

A few of the features, such as initiating a split, or finding the budgeting functionality; can be non-intuitive.

There is a learning curve at the start. Especially for those who may not be familiar with double-entry accounting. The mobile piece needs to have a better way of integrating with the main data file.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Highly recommend the solution for smaller businesses.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like the fact that it's free and that it gets the job done - ideal for small businesses or contractors who want something simple and free. Doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but it's a great way to track business expenses and income.

  ### 6. GNU Cash, you get what you pay for

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Milo C. | .Net Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

I like that it is an open source project and is continually updated.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

The UI is a bit clunky and getting to specific places in the application are not always as obvious as they should be.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

I am only using a fraction of the features. A user that needed more bells and whistles than I use may want to do some more research to verify that GNU Cash suits their needs.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have a side business doing graphics and web development work and needed an inexpensive way to track invoices and work performed on projects. I am not a heavy user so GNU Cash was perfect for this.

  ### 7. Accounting self-taught

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

I am using Gnu Cash for my personal finances right now. I like its interface and especially the amount of default categories it offers. I also like the fact that it has different currency options present that is especially useful for people living temporarily abroad (like myself) and having various bank accounts in operation.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

I have experienced a few system crashes that made me worried about software's reliability. I also do not like the fact that each time I save something it automatically create a new version of my finances' document - this makes the folder to blow up. I also wish they had some time dimension present - like being able to create monthly reports.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Easy to use, has many pre-defined categories which save time when using the software, suitable for a small size company/team or individual report.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am trying to see how I spend my fund on a monthly base and see if I can optimize certain spending areas. I also like to have the info on deposits etc saved somewhere rather than keeping all inside my Google account as confirmation emails.

  ### 8. Lets us work with our accountant to do VAT electronically

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Russel H. | Print Operator, Printing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

It is free and our accountant set it up for us and can access it remotely.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

It is difficult to use and I have to read the notes that the accountant wrote down for me. I have to be there to print invoices and can't use a notepad anymore.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Have your accountant give you some of his time to train you to use it, and take notes and write it down as it is very difficult to use.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The accountant gave us this software to do VAT electronically. We enter the invoices and then he access it. He says this makes us compliant with new VAT rules.

  ### 9. Runs much more quickly than QuickBooks

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Susan B. | Book Keeper, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

I like that GnuCash runs very quickly, with no big pauses like when I used QuickBooks at my old job.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

I don't know anybody else who uses GnuCash so the times that I get stuck, I cannot ask my friends for help. Thankfully I only got stuck once.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

It is easy to use, don't be scared.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use GnuCash for our day-to-day book keeping, which involves gathering payments from invoices, and recording payments, and also involves noting all of our expenses. It is simple but works perfectly for our company.

  ### 10. Very flexible accounts package for free, totally customizable for your client

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul J. | Remote Accounts and Bookkeeping, Printing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

It is free, and totally customizable. I can have any structure to my accounts with double entry accounting which is great as I have clients from all over the world.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

It isn't very popular so for some clients I have to use more mainstream software.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

The built-in templates for accounting structures are fine, but don't be afraid to customize it to your client's exact needs.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating and keeping accounts/book-keeping for international clients.

  ### 11. Great tool to manage finances

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

Handy tool! Gnu cash makes it easy to keep your finances organized. It comes with good documentation. The docs are self explanatory and can help you keep track of finances and accounting even if you don't have a finance background. It is an efficient tool and is feature rich. The support is good and you can find answers for typical issues with a simple web search.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

The tool can't seem to import QIF files which makes it hard to transfer data from other tools. Sometimes, there are issues when dealing with large numbers greater than 8 digits. The learning curve might seem a bit steep initially.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using as an accounting software at a small retail business. It has made keeping track of finances and accounting a breeze. Time saved in keeping track of books

  ### 12. Recommendable Free Accounting Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

The software is relatively easy to use, depending on what you need it for. I was able to use it for personal finances. The layout is very simple and plain, which is good for navigating the program.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

The layout and colors aren't very user-friendly and it does take some time to now how to use all the features if you are unfamiliar with accounting software.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

This is very useful for creating ledgers with different sets of data and exporting to different files.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This had provided a solution to streamline record keeping and serve our accounting needs. The biggest benefit of this software is it gives us access to a robust program with useful features for tracking transactions, and being free makes up for small shortcomings.

  ### 13. Very professional software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

I like the straigh forward views, really data-focused and I also like the practical features such as clients, vendors, invoices and credit notes that can be easily input from the menu.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

I wish I could continue to use it on other linux distributions. I swiched from ZorinOS 12 to ParrotSec and I cannot use it anymore. I also would like a more automated connection to bank accounts so that "normal" users can easily import data and update it live.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Learn it before you use it. It is simple, but If you don't know what you're doing you will feel completely lost.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a great option for a simple accounting software that gives me freedom, for free, on linux.

  ### 14. great small business accounting software

The software's capability for QIF/OFX/HBCI Import, as well as transaction Matching paired with its reports and graphs makes for a versatile accounting software.

Initial downloads did not function properly but subsequent downloads worked... not sure why it didn't work at first

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Small business aplication is excellent for this software product.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transaction matching reports and graphs assist us in pinpointing accounting challenges.

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

The fact that this software is free and for people who have some basic accounting knowledge can use it very efficiently for both personal and professional purposes.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

One issue that i faced was that i could not use the master data with multiple users which is needed when you are using the software for professional purposes.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Free. Easy to use. Sufficient customer support provided when needed.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

I love the program and I couldn't find any negatives about it. Its definitely worth giving it a try.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

I love that it is open source and self-hosted. It is a basic yet powerful interface.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

I dislike that it does not look as nice as other modern programs. It could definitely use a facelift.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was trying to solve personal accounting issues for free. With a little time spent familiarizing myself, I was able to use this program without issue.

  ### 18. It's great for being free/opensource software

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2019

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

Double entry accounting makes budgeting easier.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

The user interface is outdated. The primary touchpoint for me is the ledger entry and this could do with a UI overhaul to use dialogs instead of the current table row based UI.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

Great for free and if you want double entry accounting.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking budget.

  ### 19. GNU Cash is free accounting software, suitable for small business

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2018

**What do you like best about gnucash?**

GNU Cash is updated often enough to keep it up to date and fresh. GNU Cash works well and is no nonsense, simply being an accounting system, without any fluff or offers or ads.

**What do you dislike about gnucash?**

The user interface could be easier and more intuitive. It's not as user friendly as more polished professional software in this regard. It definitely helps to understand double-entry accounting before using GNU Cash.

**Recommendations to others considering gnucash:**

If you understand basic double-entry accounting, GNU Cash could be a good option for your small business. If you do not, it may be a difficult learning curve. It also doesn't handle things like builds or payroll. For most businesses, especially small service businesses, GNU Cash has everything you could possibly need.

**What problems is gnucash solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I keep track all of my business income and expenses, accounts and balances, with GNU Cash. GNU Cash makes it easy to run reports for any period, including quarterly and annual P&L reports.
