# What paid search intelligence tools are highest rated for helping marketing teams discover untapped keyword opportunities and find gaps in competitor coverage?

The names that came up most are Semrush, SE Ranking, and SpyFu, from the Paid Search Intelligence category.

Semrush is credited by reviewers with quickly pulling a competitor's top keywords and pages and surfacing low-competition terms with real volume. Reviewers note the depth takes time to fully use.

SE Ranking is used by reviewers to benchmark against competitors and spot where rivals appear for high-value topics that a client does not, then feed that into planning. Reviewers would like deeper competitor benchmarking.

SpyFu is valued for revealing keywords competitors rank and bid on that a team is missing, which reviewers use to expand into new terms and market share. Reviewers mention niche categories are sometimes not fully tracked.

Serpstat rounds this out by surfacing search suggestions others miss, which reviewers pair with a second tool to confirm. Reviewers note the breadth of tools feels overwhelming at first.

I'd frame this as two different searches even though they overlap. When I'm hunting my own blind spots, I'd start with Semrush or SE Ranking since both are built to benchmark against a competitor set broadly. When I'm targeting one specific rival's coverage, SpyFu's more focused view of what they actually rank and bid on tends to get me there faster. Either way, I'd treat a "gap" as a hypothesis until I've checked it in a second tool, since Serpstat reviewers cross-checking their finds is good practice generally, not just a workaround for that one platform's blind spots.
