Output options are essential, and the graphics could use a rehab to make it a bit friendlier to look at. Last time I used a PM software was more than 15 years ago and I was worried it would be too complex, however I quickly was able to produce the output required to participate in the bid. ### 19. Modifying an existing Gantt chart is so easy. The menu bars at the top is similar to what you might find with other purchasable software. Also the fact that it is a free and open-source software compared to others makes it extremely advantageous. One thing that the software could improve upon is adding an internet online version that would be compatible with the downloadable software. It is also relatively good with importing since it allows you to import and export files made in MSProject. **What do you dislike about GanttProject?** It is not the most powerful software and thus may not be as good for more experienced users with gantt charts. Also, even though it is relatively simple to use, there are some problems when running. Other main issues with the software include: - It does not allow for significant amount of detail in charting - Data entry is relatively simplistic and cumbersome without a more powerful method to fill out information - The user interface does not have that many added features, so again it's just good for simplicity and first time users Overall, it is a decent open source and free software for first time users and beginners that are not interested in added features or in-depth detail. **Recommendations to others considering GanttProject:** I would just recommend this software for beginners with Gantt charts. The format of the software is pretty simple and user friendly for first time users and those unfamiliar with Gantt chart formatting. **What problems is GanttProject solving and how is that benefiting you?** I mainly was using GanttProject for outlining the plans for a research project and it allowed me to easily organize the experiments by day. It was a helpful boon in allocating the right reseources to the right outputs . The ease of use was also a factor in me using it . **What do you dislike about GanttProject?** nothing so far , if only it was more user friendly in the start like a few tutorial boxes or so .Initially it did take some time getting used to it but then eventually i was able to get the hang of it and was able to make it work in due course .. once i got used to it it was relatively simple to use and make do with .What I didn't like, or I thought was missing: any automatic scheduling - ideally should allow resource levelling i.e. where one person is assigned to 2 tasks in the same period, move one of them later, typically the one which is below in the task list; should also be able to update based on today's date i.e. if task X has not been started by today, then it cannot remain to be started last week PERT diagram is not very useful, for the moment could be improved greatly simply by saving the locations of the boxes so at least you could arrange them manually, but really needs to provide a 'box editor' e.g. under Edit -> Settings... cannot change task while the task information dialog is open - this means you need to do many more clicks to open and close the dialogs e.g. when adding resources to a set of tasks PS rated support 'OK' as I haven't tried it yet **Recommendations to others considering GanttProject:** try it out and decide . for me its worth it but then thats just me . to each their own **What problems is GanttProject solving and how is that benefiting you?** was useful in my masters course when dealing with project management related work or such .was useful in my masters course when dealing with project management related work or such . using gantt i was able to get a really high score on my masters level project and also used it to organise volunteer research teams . My boomer boss didn't understand it as fast. This software simplifies my work and helps me plan my projects. To begin with, it is a free tool and that is something we should thank. It has all the functions to program tasks, create routes and export information. I also like to be able to project the tasks in a timeline. In addition, it integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Project. **What do you dislike about GanttProject?** The design of the interface is not intuitive, which is why it is difficult for basic users to manage projects. I also have an observation and it is that the tasks should have less than the minimum of 1 day of time, so that it is possible to manage projects by the hour. **Recommendations to others considering GanttProject:** GanttProject has all the essential functions for project planning that other software charges high licensing costs for doing the same job.
