It optimizes the amount of time spent on looking for different documents and the software makes the organization more agile. The possibility of working together in one room makes workshops and meetings more efficient. DEON is also very easy to implement, and the support does a good job helping clients with their problems. The fact that you can help develop the software by sending your ideas or thoughts to the support team, is also a considerable advantage. That’s why we chose DEON over Miro or Mural. **What do you dislike about DEON?** As DEON is still developing, not all the functions are fully developed. Also, the waiting time for the software to load, when you open a full workspace, can be very long. **What problems is DEON solving and how is that benefiting you?** DEON makes my life easier and more efficient. I don’t have to look for different documents in SharePoint anymore and my meetings are more efficient as I can interact with my colleagues or clients. It makes some meetings unnecessary as you can work with the team and be updated at any time. I also appreciate the simplicity of the use of DEON, as the program is very intuitive and easy to learn. The fact that DEON only has a 30-minute video of how to work with DEON, proves this point. ### 3. Both other tools are very good for developers or people who usually want to have a very simple communication platform and are otherwise using complex or complicated views. In our case, however, we wanted to have a visual communication platform for more demanding content; e.g. non-redundant linked documents and clear rights of access for every user, on demand. There is a lot of functionality overlap, compared to other tools. - It is not cheaper, but also not more expensive than other tools - It is pretty intuitive to use. We already had a nice experience of a workshop with probably 6 net active hours on the platform and it was amazing: The Template-Sharing function was a highlight in that session. - Combined with state-of-the-art Breakout sessions (e.g. available in MS-Teams or Zoom), you can have a lot of fun and literally “go in and out” of rooms (and choose whom are you talking or not-talking to). This should be considered normal nowadays. #normalizedigitalization What do I like best? - DEON is a german company and runs its server under the german data protection regulations (DSVO). We use it to collaborate with our customers (german SME’s). Typically, german customers opt for german providers because of they do not want any third-party authority (e.g. US government agencies) have access to their data. I don’t like it, but on-premise is also possible. - I have had very nice support from the DEON Team, thanks to Tomas. He was willing to share his insightful glance to the tool, to proactively troubleshoot / avoid upcoming difficulties in my planned workshops. And he also is reachable on Whatsapp. Yes, that is normal too. - Its intuitive front-end lets you improvise, when you are not sure how to do it. **What do you dislike about DEON?** What do I dislike? - DEON does not currently offer an “introduction” webinar or enablement sessions. Your abilities to use the tool rely solely in the https://deon.de/help/learn/. I had to enable my team myself and the first workshops had to be “technically”-moderated. - The capabilities of Live-Sources are limited to one live-Camera and is disappointing, that it is nowhere mentioned. It rises the expectation of somehow having a conversation within the DEON Space, but this functionality is not expected. We use MS-Teams for voice & video. - I understand, that DEON tries to load content from Sharepoint once, and if its not successful, it doesn’t load it again – unless you activate this embedded frame again with a left click. When using several files, it is a hell lot of clicks (for example, we were 8 workshop participants and we had 8 files; there is a total of 64 clicks that had to be made, and it cost not only precious time but confusion for users not familiar with this issue). What would it mean for the performance of the canvas if you enable an option so to say: refresh full canvas every minute, or even: refresh all items within this area every minute (to not refresh the full thing)? If you never have worked directly on the browser, it will feel a bit laggy (compared to the desktop app), but that is the same lag you would experience in a normal browser (ergo, it comes from your internet connection/ browser/cloud provider) - I don’t like the annual-licensing pricing, it should be monthly. Yes, that is normal too. - Is there a Community? I see that other providers actively promote their communities and have loads of free-to-use templates. I didn’t have much luck finding one for DEON. **Recommendations to others considering DEON:** JUST DO IT **What problems is DEON solving and how is that benefiting you?** Summary: - We are able to fully conduct digital workshops with complex content and real-life-like moderation capabilities and bigger groups. Partial problems with the download link of the cloud version. The biggest advantage is the collaboration with internal and external colleagues. The great usibility allowed quick onboarding for all users and the shared workspace was a good basis for brainstorming and projects. Moreover, it is commendable that the German company keeps their data in Germany regarding DSGVO issues. **What do you dislike about DEON?** One negative aspect is a lot of updates. On the one hand, this is good because you can see that the software is continuously being worked on, but it is also annoying when starting the software. It took a bit of getting used to moving the window with the right mouse button, not with the left as usual. **What problems is DEON solving and how is that benefiting you?** As i mentioned in "what i like best", the collaboration and performance is very well. I like about Deon is the stability and that all basic functions/features are well implemented. The focus here is really on the central elements. Also, the copy&paste function is better integrated. With Mural, I had some trouble when copying Post-its. Better are also the export functions (pdf, png, ppt, ...) and the compatibility with SharePoint / Office. This helps a lot with documentation after workshops. Also excellent is the zoom factor and the infinite board. Others are often limited to a certain size. With Deon you can create massive walls. **What do you dislike about DEON?** The facilitator functions could be more intuitive and that workshop attendees have to register (it's an obstacle for workshops) **Recommendations to others considering DEON:** Use it. So far, these are all different folders that I have to open each time for this, which is a huge effort. Now I can see everything at a single glance as one virtual desktop. But not only that I can see and design everything there, but that I can also easily view the documents there immediately. For example, a PowerPoint is then on my desk, but I can quickly make it large like a book and simply browse through it. Simply ingenious. **What do you dislike about DEON?** As a loyal Apple user, I think it's decisive that DEON is now made entirely usable for Mac users. This dedication, even for Mac Users, is a quantum leap. Other than that, I don't see many drawbacks at the moment. The service is personal and ultra-fast. The whole application is easy to understand. Intuitive. I have yet to discover any virtual lines or rulers to create a layout. **What problems is DEON solving and how is that benefiting you?** 1. for my customer projects, I need to have all topics, tasks, and documents in front of me and accessible at a glance. 2. I want to work with the virtual and real teams on all projects and topics simultaneously. So here I can realize excellent creativity, organizing, and cooperative teamwork. Nothing gets lost, and we consider everything in its relation and meaning to the other elements. ### 9. For me its possible to switch, but for customers, who are not using DEON so often, its difficult o Details: o If u use shapes like boxes, tringels, etc. it is complicated ti integrate texts within the shapes. Why not use the usual word possibilities for text format? o The moderation tool is not very convenient. i.E. conceptboard has a much easier way integrated (just copy there…) o For some customers it is not easy to sign up due to internal rules of their IT. The aspect that makes DEON stand out from other similar programs is the intuitive way of collaborating. Changes show up in real-time, and one can easily drag and drop and work in all kinds of documents (works exceptionally well with MS Office). You can create Kanban Boards with given tools, show presentations, or use DEON for organizing your work. The program enables a creative, fun, and beginner-friendly environment for everyone. **What do you dislike about DEON?** Using DEON with a mouse on a computer is sometimes unwieldy. Some of the tools, like the drawing, require support for a pencil. Unfortunately, an IOS Version for IPads is not quite ready now. Furthermore, a proper commenting tool is missing. **Recommendations to others considering DEON:** DEON offers a free trial and is very easy to use. You can create your own rooms and use them as a workspace where people come together. It is not only a whiteboard where you can show and pin things. You can zoom in and out, move around independently or together as a group in the connected view. All sorts of pictures, videos, live screens, Powerpoint slides and other documents can be added to the DEON room, which makes it very easy to work together in a group. DEON makes it easy to interact with people from your own company and to share and work together on a big whitepaper. The integration of microsoft software is very good. You can easily add new files and update them directly in the tool, so that everybody is working with the current version of the files. DEON gives you the possibility to integrate kanban boards, to do the sprint planning and to gather your whole team to implement e.g. Scrum for your department. ### 17. DEON - a powerful visual collaboration platform **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Gerald K. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2020 **What do you like best about DEON?** There are three major reasons why I use DEON: 1) Strong data integration: more than 40 data formats can be made visible and editable inside a DEON space; static formats like multipage documents (PPTX, PDF etc.) but also dynamic content (videos, websites, live applications); after a workshop it's easy to export a PPTX with its annotations (e.g. colored post-its, scribbles) in its original format ("as a PPTX with annotation") => this makes post-production much easier since all the texts inside the post-its can be copied & pasted into the actual PPTX with the need of retyping them again 2) Freedom to act: the infinite canvas gives infinite space for creativity; there are hundreds of ways in creating DEON spaces - to give them a structure, to lay methodologies behind it; to create, share and use templates; it's easy to use, very intuitive for most of the users 3) Easy to share: it's very simple to invite others into a DEON room to start deep realtime, visual collaboration **What do you dislike about DEON?** Currently the web version is not tha powerful and for MAC users there is just a beta version available. An integration into Jira would be nice. **What problems is DEON solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am designing and facilitating synchronized collaboration events (complex workshops) with large groups over a couple of days to accelerate alignment and decision making processes. With DEON a can run simple but also very complex and ambitious workshops in digital, virtual and hybrid settings. ### 19. This can only be avoid by sharing your screen in Teams or ZOOM. There are loading times for Sharepoint files; if this is exceeded, DEON aborts and you have to manually update with a click on each file No standard template available yet An introductory impulse about areas of application and possible uses would be helpful **What problems is DEON solving and how is that benefiting you?** Many design options for collaborative work in the workspace are possible. The infinite canvas makes it possible to create large enough work areas for all sorts of cooperation events, from small team meetings to huge converences. The export and sharing functions are very helpful, also the possibility to use objects as active buttons that are linked to other objects/sources (webpages, files). The integration of Office365 and OneDrive avoids the circulation of various versions of files when sharing files. The possibility to roll back to previous versions of the Deon project is also very useful. The task function helps keeping track of to dos when working with teams. Deon is hosted on German servers and therefore is compliant with corporate data security policies. **What do you dislike about DEON?** Limited possibilities of editing text. Lack of templates to choose from when creating a new project. One has to create them from scratch. Even if there are participants who have never worked with DEON before, a few minutes at the beginning of the meeting are enough to provide everybody with the neccesary information to work together. Features like timer, library or the implentation of PowerPoint, Word, Teams and Skype into DEON facilitate our meetings and workshops as we have one common plattform instead of using many different tools.
