# Which publisher ad servers give independent websites the best yield optimization and fill rate without requiring a full-time ad ops person to run them?

Hi, publisher-side folks on G2, this one's for you. I'm trying to find the exceptions: publisher ad servers that give an independent website strong yield optimization and fill rate without a full-time ad ops person behind them. I've been going through the publisher ad server category with that filter on.

The ad servers that squeeze the most yield out of your inventory tend to be the ones that demand the most hands-on management. What "without an ad ops person" means in practice:

Fill rate that holds up without daily babysitting of floors and line items

Yield levers (price floors, refresh, demand competition) that run on automation, not spreadsheets

Setup a small team does once and mostly leaves alone

Enough reporting to notice when something's off

Google Ad Manager keeps coming up as the "real" answer but it's also sort of the reason ad ops jobs exist, so I've set it aside. A few that fit the brief better:

AdSense is the zero-ops baseline: Google demand, automated placement, nothing to run. The trade-off is the ceiling: one demand source, limited control, no direct-sold campaigns.

Adpushup is managed header bidding plus layout optimization; their team runs the yield side for you. Closer to a managed service than a self-serve server — which is exactly the appeal here, and also the dependency.

Opti Digital is ML-driven dynamic price floors, ad refresh, and automatic ad insertion, pitched as no-code. Reviewers rate its setup and support well, but it's a smaller player with a shorter track record.

AdButler is the self-serve pick: quick to set up, well-reviewed support, direct and programmatic in one place. More of the yield work stays on you than with the managed two.

What's not on this list that should be, and is there one here you'd quietly drop? Especially curious if anyone's broken through the AdSense ceiling without hiring for it.

From G2 reviews, Monumetric and Ezoic are the names most often missing from this list — both sit between AdSense and a full ad ops hire, with Ezoic's AI-driven testing frequently cited by independent publishers as the practical way to break through the AdSense ceiling without adding headcount. Of the four listed, Opti Digital is the one reviewers would quietly drop first, not because it underperforms but because its shorter track record and smaller footprint make it harder to justify over more established managed options when you're a small team betting on one solution.
